I attended a guest chef dinner tonight for my inaugural visit to The Statler. What a gorgeous venue! The only downfall (and I'm hoping this is a faux pas only until the construction is complete) is the lack of accessibility. There are no ramps to get inside the building or from the entrance into the bar/restaurant venue. I was surprised that we had to request flatware with dessert and that there wasn't an option for coffee or tea. That being said, tonight's local chef/business was Tony's Supper Club. I enjoyed The Big Hello cocktail to start and since I wanted to order one of everything on the menu, I got 2 appetizers, an entree to eat for my meal, an entree to bring home for tomorrow, and dessert. The Fungi "Cappuccino" was deliciously creamy. My only gripe was that I needed a spoon and more bread to sop up every bit of goodness. The Caramelized Figs with creamy Goat cheese and spicy arugula was the perfect combination of flavors. For my main entree, I ordered the Wild Boar Ragu. The buccatini pasta was al dente, the ragu was well-seasoned (another part of dinner that needed just a nip of bread for sopping) and it was tough not to lick the plate clean. The second entree was the bison, only because my friend wouldn't stop raving about the duck confit potatoes. lol I ate one (even though I'm *stuffed*) and they are really good - but needed salt. For dessert, even though I've had it before, I had to go back for the chocolate panna cotta. The chocolate is insanely rich, the Hazelnut brown butter added flavor and crunch, and just a half scoop more of the ice cream would have been perfect. Came here for a wedding and it was so classy and divine! We parked on the street then walked inside the staff guided us to coat check in then the ceremony space. The ceremony space was romantic and intimate. We then made our way downstairs for cocktail hour. The cocktail hour food was average. The reception space was gorgeous and there was a balcony outside! We had a 5 course meal and every meal was delicious! After the wedding we walked over to the after party which was their bar inside starter city and that was so nice too! The Statler is under construction and I heard they might convert it back into a hotel. I'm so happy to hear it's being restored it is so elegant and has so much charm. I was here twice in October and I fully believe now that the Statler is the most beautiful building in Buffalo. I came for two separate witch markets (no, really) and absolutely treasure the time I spent inside. It's so classy and marble is everywhere. The stairs aren't tough for me as a disabled person and there are ramps to get you into both parts of the building if you need them. There were two giant rooms apart from the spacious hallway. One of them even has a pop-up bar before you enter. One of the bartenders gave me the most delicious mocktail I've ever had for $3. Unbeatable. They also have a lobby bar, which has a different page so I'll review there. So, the gorgeous rooms held a ton of vendors for both markets. There waa even enough space on the floor for witches to dance on (they needed a lot oc room). I almost wish my wedding had been here. Come here if you want to see for yourself just how nice this building is. It's also haunted, so that's cool. read more

Very enjoyable place to attend a wedding. Classy. Lavish. Glamorous. Stately. A Buffalo landmark. Must-see. Service was great, from the courteous valet to all the servers. Appetizers and dinner entrees were delicious. Mom and I enjoyed the Chilean sea bass. Guests at our table were raving about their filet minion. The bride and groom looked relaxed and very happy on their big day. The way it should be. Thanks to their very supportive families and friends. And to the Statler City for making it a memorable wedding day. Cross - cultural couple, therefore some traditions from each of their cultures and religions were incorporated into the ceremony and celebration. Jewish-American groom and Pakistani-American Muslim bride raised in Buffalo. Just fantastic! Affirmation: Love conquers. Political issues aside. This young couple put off their big day for over a year due to COVID-19. I think it was worth the wait! Guests, like my mother and I, were ecstatic to finally be able to attend a large indoor social-function, without wearing a mask. It was wonderful to see so many dear friends after over a year! If you sing about stool pigeons, then you're singing a Tattler Ditty. Actually I have no idea what that means. If you find a bug in a world map, it's an Atlas Critter. OK that was bad. Nm. I've seen these buildings from the outside and the inside, and they are absolutely grand and amazing. Inside they are extremely different from what you might imagine. It feels like you have stepped into another world. One of my fave structures in WNY. Statler City is a beautiful 30s looking skyscraper monolith in downtown Buffalo. It's a popular venue for weddings (I have yet to get married here though). It's also an old hotel with a popular bar in the lobby. The building is one of the tallest in Buffalo and lovely to look at. It's hard to believe how big and grand and bulky it is when you're standing right next to it. In NYC it would be dwarfed but in Buffalo it's monstrous. In a good way. And if you get bitten by a snake, then you have my Rattler Pity. (ouch) read more

When I scoured the Internet for Easter Brunch, the most popular place by far was Statler City. I made reservations two weeks prior and there were still plenty of reservations available. First all, this place is beautiful and elegant. Upon arrival, we checked in, and were escorted quickly to our table. The Easter Brunch included bottomless mimosas and coffee. Basically the two reasons I Brunch. The food was outstanding! While they had usual brunch cuisine, my favorite item, hands down, was the Banana Fosters French toast. Holy smokes.. it was delicious. I was at Statler City for Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. My overall impressions for the show and the venue were positive and went beyond my expectations. The place was classy, lavish and a very pleasant environment to party. You hardly can believe you're still in Buffalo while here. Really glad that this place was renovated and reopened recently because it adds a lot to the city. With that said, I can understand how some of the other reviewers have had negative experiences here. The space, while 'lavish' is still quite intimate and if the event is overbooked, you're bound to be packed like a sardine and it's going to be difficult to enjoy yourself. The lobby itself is beautiful. Chandeliers, grand staircases and fountains give this place a touch of elegance. Don't be fooled, this is a GREAT place to have an event, as long as you're not hosting a 5,000+ person bash. The various rooms, such as the Grand Ballroom are quite rich. The upstairs area can make for a great reception or cocktail evening. Just be weary of the huge events here (such as last year's New Year's Ball), you may want to pass on it if it seems like there's going to be too many people or poor organization, but if you're thinking of having a wedding or hosting a smaller function; this place is beautiful! read more

Never been in the Statler and I was looking forward to it. Unfortunately, there were some parties going on and I was relegated to the lobby bar (they have a security guard, or someone, directing foot traffic). I asked if I could look around the lobby area and was told "no". Then I asked if I could at least stand under the giant chandelier that was ten feet away from where I was currently standing, and was told I could stand under the chandelier that was five feet away but not the one ten feet away. Even when I lowered the bar as far as I did I was denied. At that point I considered asking if it would be alright if I got down and sniffed the carpet I was standing on to see what rich people foot steps smelled like, but since I was looking at another "no" and I would be putting myself at risk of the Capitol dispatching Peacekeepers to snuff me I just went to the bar. Pity. The Statler looked beautiful from what I could see, from about about five feet from the door. read more

Last week, my girlfriend and I attended the Canisius College Senior Ball here at the Statler. We had a great night. We started off the night with drinks and appetizers. They had lots of fruit, cheese, etc. I especially loved the egg rolls that waiters brought around. Yum. While having our snack, I took in all the sights. Beautiful chandeliers, impeccably white tables, glistening china, the works. It's a magnificent space and perfectly suited to the needs of our events. It was pretty small. I'd say no more than 250 people. We truly felt like royalty. Then again, my standards are very low. All of the waitstaff and bartenders were friendly. Sasha was a great waitress and kept those egg rolls coming. Loved her. The only reason I deducted a star was for the price of the drinks. I think I had three the entire night. The first two were $8 and all I ordered was a gin and tonic. That's ridiculous. Maybe they gave me good liquor?? I hope so. Maybe I should have specified that well would be fine. However, my third drink was a dirty Shirley Temple and that was $6. I'm not sure why. Neither drink is particularly fancy and I will note that my girlfriend's 2 Sex on the Beach drinks were also $8. Little bit suspicious. Not sure if my bartender was just gouging me of what. Overall, fabulous night and if I had money coming out of my ears, I would totally have an event here. read more

I don't know why I even bother to go out for Mothers' Day brunch. Of course, I LOVE my children and like to go out to eat with them. And, I love brunch. But on Mothers' Day most places have sub-par food and bad service and are VERY overpriced. But when I saw in the paper that "Statler City" was having a Mothers' Day brunch I think I had momentary amnesia and I forgot how awful those events could be. Or maybe I was just so hung up on all of the reuse of Buffalo buildings and so thrilled to experience the rebirth of this glorious old hotel that I forgot NOT to make a reservation. Anyway... upon entering the glorious lobby I was impressed. It's beautiful in there! The hostesses were very friendly. And the dining-room had adequate separation between the tables so I didn't end up too close to a screaming toddler (you know that they are at EVERY Mothers' Day brunch). Our waitress was quite friendly at the beginning. Maybe even a bit overboard. Our reservation was for 11:00 and alcohol can't be served until noon and she PROMISED me she'd bring my mimosa at the strike of 12. PROMISED! The food was spread out in stations throughout the downstairs area. Cheese, crackers, crudite, shrimp cocktail, and salad at one station...... breakfast items (bacon, sausage, eggs Benedict, frittata, home fried potatoes, and banana foster French toast) at another..... a Belgian waffle station with ANOTHER for toppings (kinda strange that those should be separated)... and another long table with lunch/dinner kinds of food (mashed sweet potatoes, veggie medley, chicken a la kind, beef stroganoff, and panco crusted chicken breast). There was a guy carving strip steak and turkey.... and a dessert table (in yet another room). Lots and lots of choices... but unfortunately everything was pretty tasteless and everything was lukewarm. I like my hot food HOT and my cold food COLD. I'm weird that way. The friendly service deteriorated as the meal progressed... with us practically having to beg for water toward the end. And, a 20% tip was automatically added to the check. And, after all of that gushy promising, I NEVER did get my mimosa! read more

One of my downtown-working friends has been singing the praises of Lobby Bar in Statler City for a while now. It takes a lot of motivation for my suburb-working, no-rush-real-rush-hour-traffic-or-street-parking self to go downtown on a Friday, especially when there's a risk of having to parallel park. Because no. BUT! If there is one thing that will get me heading inbound on the 33, it's 2-for-1 drinks. When I got there, people were flowing out of the bar, and I quickly found out they were waiting for a wedding and that it wasn't usually that packed but when they cleared out for their event, a good crowd of people was still left. However, it didn't feel like there was a premium for space, even at the bar. You were close, but not sardine close and there were plenty of places to go sit, including some comfortable looking oversized couches. The service wasn't stellar, but I'm willing to give them a pass on it because they'd been swamped with the wedding guests and it was 5 on a Friday, and every patron looked like they'd had a rough week. I thought the prices were super reasonable. I bought 3 rounds (myself and two friends), gin & tonic, rum & coke (doubles), and a beer, which each came with the extra drink. The total before tip was less than $24, which I don't think is terrible. I'd totally go back, maybe just on Thirsty Thursday instead. read more

Came in after a Bisons game, was given a hard time about my Bills cap. Friends were all in similar ballpark attire. Told on the way out that we wouldn't be allowed in next time dressed that way. With that attitude, I'm not surprised there were only 9 or 10 people in the Rendezvous club at 1am on a Friday night. We hiked over from the ballpark because we're dedicated Buffalo-boosters who wanted to drink at a real local landmark. The only bright spot was the bartenders in the lobby bar. Polite, fun, and cool guys. Would recommend that management loosen up a little bit and do a better job making paying customers feel welcome, especially after sporting events -- maybe even provide a shuttle service between the ballpark and arena and the Statler after events? That place should be packed to the rafters after a big event downtown. read more

I attended the Niagara Room event on New Years Eve. Very clearly on the tickets the event times were printed. December 31st 8:00pm to January 1st 4:00am. At abruptly 1:00am security kicked everyone out. We were forced to pay $120 for an uber just to get home. The price of a single ticket was $60 ($75 after fees and taxes). After much effort I was able to get ahold of Tammy the general manager. She was nothing but rude and unprofessional. Told me there was nothing she could or would do. Finally she "got ahold of the owner" and said she would be sending me $50 to Buffalo o Chop house as a "gesture of goodwill". I told her I did not want it. A few days later I received $25 to the Buffalo Chop house and $25 to the Statler City bar. If you weren't keeping track, that is now TWO times the Statler has lied. If I could put 0 stars I would. This is no way to run a business, or to handle unhappy customers. Will not go again, will not recommend. Please be on the look out for news coverage on this, as there are many interested parties in bringing this to full attention. read more

Statler city ghost tour is a must to do. Even if you don't believe in ghost, it's a great place to explore. The scenery on the top floor of the building is breath taking. The history of the place is amazing too. Elvis Presley and President McKinley both stayed in tower. Back in the day people lived there and you never left the building because everything was available to you. Hunting for ghost was ok, but I really enjoyed the build. I wish you could just go explore the place for hours. The ballroom which is still in operation is gorgeous and I love the men room. I wish they could redo the building, but the guy told us each floor to redo would cost over 10 billion dollars. If you have a chance this is a must to do. See pictures of the place. This review is a bit of an afterthought, much like the logistics of the Iceball. My girlfriend and I decided to dump the cash to ensure that our New Years Eve would not be a bust like it seems to be every year. Spending the money on a ticket to the Iceball would certainly ensure a lavish time. Wrong. Like so many said, the largest problem was the amount of people allowed inside that place. More and more tickets were released for sale after they said tickets were sold out, and once we were inside it was obvious there was a serious issue with the planning, or there was a serious issue with wanting to make money over providing an enjoyable experience for guests. The place was a zoo; it was arguably unsafe with the amount of people inside. The coat check line lasted about 30-40 minutes and they charged $1! After having paid $150 for a ticket. Once we were free of our outer garments we made our way to one of the buffets that were crowded by people standing nearby eating because to find a seat was near improbable. We passed through the chow line and encroached on a "VIP" table that was left deserted. I felt bad for the people who actually paid the extra money for VIP tickets. We ordered drinks with table service. The food was good for buffet. We waited, spoke to some people who made camp at our table and discussed how poorly planned it all seemed, waited for our drinks, and after the 45 minutes we were seated there we left without getting our drinks and wandered about. We attempted to get near one of the 6-7 people deep bars, but it was sort of futile. There were simply way too many people jammed into this place. It was so disheartening because it is such a beautiful building and it could have been a very regal event. We made our way about the entire place to have a good look at it all. We decided to check out the nightclub in the basement. There were a few girls bartending who looked totally inexperienced and confused. The bar was mobbed like the others. We waited for about 40 minutes to get drinks, where we ordered 8 drinks to forgo waiting in line again. My suit pockets were full. It was comical. People were walking around at such a "regal" event with pockets full of beer bottles. The night was sort of salvaged when we found a bar that was generally a table with a clothe over it, it didn't seem obvious that it was even a bar, which is why it wasn't 7 people deep. We made camp there, watched the band, and got tight. When we went to get my girlfriends coat from coat check we stood behind a woman who was arguing with the girl behind the counter. They had "lost" her coat. When we turned in the ticket for my girlfriend's coat...well what do you know, they lost her coat too. So my girlfriend walked home without a coat. I contacted Statler City about it and I was ignored. If we hadn't paid cash for our tickets I would have certainly contested the charge with my credit card company. Overall the building was beautiful. The idea of having such an event is cool. The food was good. The bands were good. But everything else was a clusterf*ck. I would never, ever go to the Iceball again. It isn't worth the aggravation and spending that much money. They need to invite far less people and drop the ticket price a bit. I would not recommend this event to anyone. read more

Came here last night for a wedding in the Terrace room. The décor is exceptional. Beautiful chandeliers and candelabras dress the room providing a very elegant atmosphere. The wait staff was attentive, and never left us scouring for anything. The FOOD. The filet mignon was out of this world!!! Not only was this filet excellent for wedding food standards, but just in general. I would return here for a destination, just to get the filet again. Better than the last one I had at Russel's. My only complaint of the evening was that we could never hear anything being said over the microphone. We missed the speeches, the DJ announcing the wedding party, everything. It was just a muffled blur. I'm not sure if this is due to the logistics of the Terrace Room, or the manner the speakers were set up by the DJ. When we first began the wedding planning process, my fiance and I both thought that we wanted a simple outdoor wedding. However, as soon as we saw the Statler, those plans changed immediately! Upon entering the Statler, you feel transported back in time. The interior of the building is grand, dramatic and elegant. Not only is the lobby fabulous, the two major event spaces are stunning too. While the Golden Ballroom is dripping in exquisite gold details with sky high ceilings, the Terrace Room offers equally as stunning details paired with wonderful natural light. Each room also features unbelievable chandeliers and gorgeous Chiavari chairs. As far as event spaces go, it just doesn't get anymore beautiful than this. After seeing these spaces, we ultimately decided to have our wedding ceremony in the balcony space and our reception in the Terrace Room on Friday, November 21, 2014. During the wedding planning process, we worked with Sam who was consistently accommodating and always a pleasure. No matter the day or time, he always got back to me quickly and tried to make all my ideas become reality. He was also a great source of information for all of my wedding-related questions. While the wedding planning process went pretty smoothly, the week leading up to our wedding was a different story. Because we were married during the Snowvember storm, all of my careful planning was disrupted. However, Sam did everything he could to calm my anxiety and help us achieve the vision that we had been dreaming of. Even with all the storm-related stress, we were still able to have the most flawless and elegant wedding day. We received so many compliments on the food, service and atmosphere. I got my marriage on here! Woo woo! This place is gorgeous and historic, a real Buffalo gem. It's too bad that it's having fianancial drama. With a little work, this place could really be incredible. As is, the spaces are gorgeous, opulent, and unique. I had my wedding at the rendez-vous room with about 150 people and it was perfect and intimate and very 1920's romantic. The people at the place are helpful, if a bit unorganized and generally frazzled. There were some issues, like my husband's last name was absent from the welcome sign (yikes!) but overall, i would do it again in a heartbeat. If you are thinking about getting married in Buffalo and want a unique and beautiful experience, look into Statler Towers. read more

I can not say enough about our experience that we had in planning, executing and enjoying our wedding here! Everything was perfect! Colleen was our wedding planner and worked with us to get food and drink menu perfect! My husband and I got married here 2/25/17 followed by our reception. We had about 200 people. The ceremony area up on the balcony was beautiful. We were in the Terrace Room and had cocktails in the open area in front of the room. It was all amazing. Our family and friends raved about the whole thing - The place is gorgeous and elegant, the food is amazing and the service is first class....I can not recommend a venue more for any type of event....absolutely AMAZING!!!!! read more

They also added a 22% "service charge" that included absolutely no service. If you have reservations for later, do yourself a big favor and cancel them. Went there for Easter brunch and made a rez a week early, they called back to confirm, then again during the week. When I got there..no reservation. After all that we were seated above the golden ballroom. The place itself is awesome but the brunch was far from it. They had no beverage station upstairs so anytime someone wanted even a cup of coffee, the waiter had to walk to the stairway and go downstairs to get the coffee. Why didn't they just have a 50 cup dispenser upstairs? As for the food, it was average, like what you find at most places. The pork sausage looked a pale color of gray and didn't taste right, I wasn't taking any chances. The bacon looked like a mountain of it was cooked all at once and was thrown into the warming bin to continue to cook and get hard and stale fast. The only eggs there were eggs Benedict, so if you didnt like those, you were out of luck. With all those people, you think there would have been more than one waffle station also. The turkey and ham carving station (1) were alright and tasted fresh as did the desserts. I don't know if this was their first attempt at this but maybe it will be better next year. read more

I don't even know how to start this review. My wife and I got married here this weekend and wow. This place is simply amazing. They cover every aspect of your wedding you can think of. Their hospitality staff (we dealt directly with Jaime who is the best of the best) is top of the line. From months to weeks before the wedding they are in contact with you to ensure that every detail is covered to your liking. On the day of the wedding they made sure everything went according plan. They laid out a very precise timeline of the evening which made the night go smooth. The food was amazing, the bartenders were fast, the environment that the Statler establishes is like none other. If you want a wedding that is stress free and amazing look no further. They will make your night the most amazing one you will ever have. I feel bad for anyone who attended my wedding that has to marry after us. The Statler sets the bar and they set it high. Save yourself the time and trouble and meet with them first. We went to the Statler for Mother's Day Brunch this morning. We had an 11:00 am seating, but because of the check in process(cf!) we were seated at 11:30. We were seated on the balcony, which has a gorgeous view over the ballroom. That in a nutshell, was the highlight of this particular dining experience. My poor husband... he doesn't understand sometimes that its the company, my loving family, that makes the day, and this subpar experience couldn't take away from that. Anyway, back to the review. The tablecloth was too big for the table, the food was cold mostly, the stuffed sole didn't taste quite right, we had 5 min bursts of background music, the seat cushions were stained, the lines were crazy long, the lay out was not thought out well. Our server Ryan was pleasant, our check was wrong at the end and he did correct it. We were charged for 3 adult brunches, and we are 2 adults, 1 6 yr old. When we pointed out the discrepancy he stated that 5 and under only are considered for the childrens brunch price. He went to check with his mgr, and did come back in 5 min and apologized for the inconvenience, and had a corrected bill. I checked my phone in the meantime and it clearly stated 12 and under. This is vital info he should of had. I could probably mention a dozen other things that weren't quite right. But I won't b/c you get the picture here. It is chaos. The antithesis of enjoyable. I can't blame the staff for any lack of training, this is not their fault. It rolls downhill. From the review history here, this is the norm though. Until they get the memo on how true service works, this will be the norm here. And that makes me sad, b/c this building could be fantastic: hotel, apts, and on and on. Gorgeous! I am afraid the Statler is on its way out again though with the reputation its developing. It won't be too long now unless there is a MAJOR change. read more

Mother's Day Brunch 2013---- HORRIBLE!!! DON'T DO IT!!!!! Cafeteria-style, over-packed with people, very poor service (with 20% service charge added to your bill for your convenience), mediocre food, pathetic desserts, plates too hot to touch. We had a family wedding on Sat. 11/17/12 and just wanted to say thank you to the staff at the Statler and Mr. Croce for all he has done to bring the Statler back. When we entered the Terrace Room it was like a scene from a move - the lighting, the room - I could go on. The service, food and ambience was wonderful. White gloves to serve you dinner, drink orders throughout the meal. Everything that we as a family could ask for was done. Please thank your staff for a great job and I would highly recommend having a celebration at the Statler to anyone who is looking to find a venue with class and style! read more

I am a frequent visitor of the Statler lobby bar. The atmosphere is very relaxing and the upscale decor is beautiful. Most of all the bartender "Steve" makes the best drinks in Buffalo and is one of the most friendly, easygoing, and attentive server I have come across. I will continue to visit this lobby bar to unwind after a stressful workweek especially while he is still there. read more

Regarding Easter Sunday Brunch 2015. Called on Friday to make a reservation and was told the Main Floor of the Ballroom was all booked and they only had the stage available. He asked if I had ever been to the Statler and did I know what the stage was and I said no. He informed me it was a stage that you have to get to by steps so it's not handicap accessible and would that be a problem? I said no and could I have a reservation at 11:30 and he said no, only 11:00 AM on the stage is available again, because the Ballroom tables were all booked. So I made the reservation for 11:00 AM on the Stage of the Main Ballroom. So we take advantage of the Valet parking. A bit put off by the lack of uniforms or nametags or ANY indication that the person waiting to take the keys to my car actually worked for the Statler but it seemed a safe bet he did so we handed them over and went inside. We arrived a bit early at 10:41 AM and upon checking in were told we could be seated right away. Imagine my surprise when we walked through the Main Ballroom that only had 6 other parties in it. The brunch started at 10:00 AM we were there for an 11:00 reservation yet we could not sit on the floor of the ballroom with only 6 other families there? So we sat by ourselves on the stage of the main ballroom with a spot light right on us, feeling very uncomfortable. Thanks for that! We decided we would ignore all of that and our server - who was absolutely lovely and truly saved this outing for us - came immediately with drinks and we headed off to the buffet. I was immediately put off by the huge pans of burnt looking home fries and bacon that were on the hot line. My son could not even pull a single whole slice of bacon out as it crumbled in the tongs. I ignored the burnt food and had 3 sausage links from the hot line and headed towards the fruit. The Honeydew, cantaloupe and pineapple were all delicious. The berry fruit bowl equally so. The "desserts" I found were very much lacking. Poppyseed bread, coffee cake sliced up on plates was not the caliber of desserts one usually finds at a $35. per person buffet! I next tried the scrambled eggs with chives and found them runny and cold. The scrambled eggs with lobster, touted as an omlette, were cooked well and very flavorful. The home made donuts were greasy and stone cold, as if they were refrigerated and the croissants being cut in half was just plain cheap looking. So I am giving it 3 stars because the servers were WONDERFUL. Smiles everywhere. And the fruit and lobster scrambled eggs and sausage links were delicious. Was it worth $35. per person. Not with the amount of inedible foods that were brought out. Had the bacon and home fries not been burnt and we were not stuck up on the stage when a few 20 tables were open the entire time we were there on the Main Ballroom floor, it might have been. read more
