As a lifelong resident of East Aurora, I've watched the Roycroft struggle through countless transformations and owners. Sadly, here we go again. Dinner on the Peristyle on a warm summer evening is hard to beat anywhere in Western NY. The setting is beautiful and historic. But if you're looking for food to match it, you might want to bring your own. Yep. Another owner. Another start-over for the restaurant. Last night, I was served a can of unopened sardines with cornichons, olives, pickled onions and some type of unchewable vegetable (pickled ramps?). My date ordered the pea risotto, which was heavily over-salted and more like a chowder, with bits of bacon, carrots and peas. Her small house salad was about 90% frisée. We started with stuffed hot banana peppers in marinara. The flavor was OK, but the peppers were so tiny it was almost laughable. There were also no traditional seafood options--no shrimp, no scallops. Our waitress explained how expensive seafood has become and how much they would have to charge. I appreciate the explanation, but I didn't come to the Roycroft to save money. I came for a memorable dinner in one of Western NY's most beautiful settings. And that's what makes this so disappointing. I love the Roycroft. It has been part of my life for more than 60 years. We've celebrated birthdays, anniversaries, weddings and countless other milestones there. It's more than a restaurant--it's part of East Aurora. So, come on, new owner--step up to the plate. The setting, history and potential are already there. Give the food the quality and creativity it deserves, and make the Roycroft the destination it should be. East Aurora deserves it. As a longtime visitor of the Roycroft, this is definitely 5 stars. Easily my favorite brunch location in WNY, their Sunday offering is always on-point. Even with the price increases that have gone on since the pandemic, it's still amazing, especially with the gluten free offerings, which are always celiac friendly and the service is always excellent. We spent one night at the hotel. Such a cool historical feel to the place. However, the grumpy old man on the phone at night is a bit much! Also, the bed was the absolute worst!! It felt like we were sleeping on a box, and the pillows were flat!! Paying that much for a room, we at least expected the bed to be somewhat comfortable!! Excellent dinner for 7 picky eaters! We always enjoy eating in Larkin and *loved* the new menu, including the salmon, pork chops, steak frites, half chicken, Brussels sprouts, and Caesar salad. First off- park in the lot on campus, surrounded by old buildings, but walk across the road to the modern looking building- this is where the restaurant is. Sitara and our hostess were both very friendly and welcoming. We were seated next to the fireplace but we were still a bit chilly so we kept our coats on the entire meal. Loved the creative and flavorful mocktail offerings. We got the charcuterie board (the price was hefty but so was the size of the appetizer!!) the filet, French onion soup, crème brûlée and chocolate mousse cake. Everything was delicious, the meat cooked perfectly with a flavorful gravy, but I do think the cake was bought frozen and wasn't thawed enough to enjoy- the top was difficult to fork through. read more

I took my husband here for brunch for his birthday and it was the perfect place for that. Definitely an elevated experience over a typical brunch place. They offer a brunch buffet with a ton of options, drinks are included, and our server was very attentive. Along with the buffet, you can also order omelets through your server. There was also a live band playing light jazz music. The reason I'm taking one star off is because their food descriptions need to be better. I'm a pescatarian and I grabbed something listed as "mango salad" and it ended up having ham in it. The pieces of ham were so small I didn't notice until I was eating it. There is totally something that should have been listed on the buffet card. We came for a New Year's Eve dinner. We chose to come because they had a fixed price dinner menu that I could actually eat as I have many dietary restrictions. Luckily there were a lot of options that worked for every guest at our table. Unfortunately a decent portion of the menu changed and the items we came for were not even printed on the menu. So it becomes a question as to why would you release a menu beforehand only to change it? Very frustrating. On top of that the remaining menu items that many people at the table wanted were sold out. Our party was very sad to not be able to try the short ribs and crème brûlée. Finally, the cook on the proteins we ordered was not great. I was told the prime rib was medium rare, it was not, and our pork chop was a little undercooked. It was hard to see since it isn't overly bright in here, if I had noticed I'd have sent the pork chop back. Overall, it felt like a bit of a bait and switch. A rather expensive meal to have so many issues. I won't be back anytime soon. read more

I moved out of NY and was visiting family. What a disappointment as I had eaten here many times. The food was mediocre at best. Had to return a steak 2 times after asking for medium rare and it was charred to shoe leather both times. The manager came over and instead of offering some sort of compensation as everyone had eaten, he rudely said I'm sorry. I'm not a picky customer but this was terrible. This brunch is on another level. They have a quartet playing while you get your food. A QUARTET. They were serving up prime rib and lamb, barbecue pork mac & cheese and pesto chicken cordon bleu. Along with delicious waffles, bacon, sausage and the best quiche I have ever eaten. There's a whole charcuterie table and then a dessert table filled with the most scrumptious desserts we have ever tasted. This is going down as one of the best brunch spots of all time. I've traveled all over the world and never in my life been so scared of the dark. I used to stay here for work trips because it was reasonably priced and the only place I could walk to work from. I had no idea why I always carried such a bad feeling here until I went to work the next day and was informed that it is haunted. I remember googling it once from a chair in one of the suites. Hilariously, the first story I read of how haunted the building is displayed a prominent photo of the exact chair I was sitting in at the time. I remember staying in the tower once too. There are old photographs of children on the walls, but the children do not look happy. The food was amazing and the town is uniquely gorgeous. It's a real American treasure, but I still get chills just thinking about it. Like a love/hate relationship you know is bad for you but can't leave. read more

Taste was off, texture was not what I typically see in a bisque. Bitter and a bit one note. Then had an artichoke heart appetizer. Was very heavy and tasted only of the fried batter. A friend and I went to celebrate her birthday on Tuesday night for Burgers & Brew. Our hamburgers were cooked to perfection. The accompanying French fries were delicious and a real treat. We both enjoyed a glass of Wayland Pilsner. Our server ( Zsa Zsa) was exemplary. She was personable and very attentive. She heard us talk about our birthdays and gave us each a complimentary dessert. My husband and I made reservations for Tuesday night "Burger Night," and we had such a great experience. The ambiance was wonderful, with beautiful architecture and thoughtful design all around us. Our waitress was fantastic and made the evening even better. Our reservation was at 6:00 pm, and we wrapped up around 7:15, which was perfect--no rushing, just a relaxed and enjoyable dinner for a much-needed mom and dad night out. I started with the French onion soup, which came out piping hot--exactly what you want on a freezing cold night. We then ordered the Craftsman burgers, which offer so many topping options. The chipotle bacon jam was absolutely delicious. The burgers were cooked perfectly, and the fries were fresh-cut, crispy, and not greasy at all. Everything was so good we cleaned our plates. We finished with the chocolate mousse cake for dessert, and it lived up to its name--light, fluffy, and not overly dense or heavy. A perfect ending to a great meal. read more

Our meals, steak frites, Salmon and the house special char were all served hot and wonderfully flavored. Two of us have been to an out of town 5 star restaurant recently but this place hands down has the atmosphere and food presence that surpasses the other. The only disappointment was that since we visited a few days before the holiday we were expecting the restaurant to be decorated for the season, unfortunately very little done. We stayed overnight for my husband's 60th birthday. Just to stay in a different place. This place is a great place showing off the old time rustic place. Furniture all over the place is of great quality but brings out how the place was years ago. Our room was much bigger than expected and we had an actual key to get into our room. It is spacious and rustic at the same time. Bathroom was huge, wished my bathroom at home was as big. There was no fridge or coffee in the room, but there was a small room off the hallway that had a keurig machine, microwave and fridge. Only 2 small issues which is why I didn't give them a 5 star. If you expect to sleep in or get a good night sleep it might not happen. Though the window above the entrance door is cool, the light from the hallway lights up part of the room. Also there are no curtains on the windows, just slated blinds, so when the sun is up so are you. We also went to the lounge and they had a jazz band playing. It was a nice surprise as we had dessert and drinks listening to the music. Overall a nice stay and enjoyable night out. read more

I've lived in WNY for all but 3 years of my life (ok, plus another 4 years of college in CNY) but until today, I had never been to the Roycroft. Parking was kind of a nightmare and I was grateful the rain held off until the ride home because I had to park down the street and hoof it. The building itself is so large, I wasn't sure where the entrance was, and even when I found it, I was still a little unsure of myself. The bar is teeny-tiny but the lobby has a very nice sitting area and I could easily see enjoying a nice cocktail there. The concrete patio area is set up with tables and chairs for outdoor dining but temperatures weren't accommodating for that this evening. My dining partner and I had same-day reservations and it was nice they were able to accommodate us a little bit early. The table at which we were seated was huge - intended for 4 patrons - but I felt that the distance from my friend and the background noise from people at the bar and entrance of the restaurant made it difficult to hear each other. We both ordered the craftsman burger with add-ons. I asked for mayo to dip my fries, she asked for ranch. My burger was tasty & warm to temp upon arrival. My dining buddy's was cold. She ordered an IPA and I ordered the Resurgence Irish Red. I was disappointed that such a renowned restaurant had such slow service but our beers took at least 15 minutes to arrive after ordering and the food itself took probably another 15 minutes. Our reservations were for 1815 and we didn't leave until 2000. The final straw was our server, Mian, asking whose card was whose (since I had 4 burger add-ons and my companion only had 3) and our cards being charged with each other's meals. ‍ It was a matter of less than $2 difference, but a difference all the same. I may never go back but at least I can now say that I've been there. read more

I WHOLEHEARTEDLY RECOMMEND IT. We stayed 2 nights in the area for my husband's work. I was in awe as we walked in. The pictures dont do it justice. Around Christmas everything was decorated... great place to stay and or come to eat. Several fireplaces. Lots of seating. Noise level was fine for comfortably having dinner conversation. Holiday get togethers, birthday or date night. Food and service were impressive. We stayed here a few nights and i was impressed. For cost similar to regular hotel we got to stay somewhere very special. this historic hotel was so charming. I read its said to be haunted... if so the ghost is probably welcoming and friendly. The rooms were large. Furniture was heavy and well made with lots of tables and seating. Very comfortable. Great stay and would love to return. Food here was excellent just sad to miss their famous brunch. read more

I booked a honeymoon suite for my wife and I the night of our wedding and we really enjoyed our stay here. The room was very spacious and comfortable. I would say the one draw back was that the walls are very thin and it was very easy to hear the noises of other guests in their rooms and out in the hall early in the morning. The next morning I had booked the brunch and would highly recommend! Endless mimosas, bloody marry's and poinsettias are such a great addition to the brunch menu u during the Christmas season. We enjoyed the prime rib, French toast and vegetable lasagna! I would say the service and ambiance was great. Went for dinner here last evening with several family members. This was my first visit. I was always fascinated by the history of this venue. It was tastefully decorated in the Roycroft tradition. I ordered the 5 oz. Filet of beef and it was done to perfection. The veal Demi-glacé was a bit too peppery, however. The whipped potatoes were lukewarm and almost tasted like a powdered box mix. Once the live music in the next room began it was difficult to maintain a normal conversational volume with my 5 other dining partners. Desert and coffee were very good. I had made reservations at a Fairfield Inn out by the airport but a friend suggested we call the Roycroft. This place was about the same price as the Fairfield but was 1000X nicer. Glad I changed the accommodations to this place. Amazing craftsman architecture. Everything in this place had character. Our room was luxurious - such cool architecture and authentic furniture. Very comfortable beds. Great continental breakfast was included. Really nice fresh muffins and strong coffee in the comfortable lobby. I could have stayed all day curled up with a good book. There were more breakfast options but that big muffin was enough for me. The previous night we had dinner at the Inn. Great salmon followed by a chocolate mousse cake which made my night. read more

This is a review for the Sunday Brunch. WOW! We took my sister to celebrate a special occasion and I could not have been more pleased. For $36 dollars you got the works and then some! Huge room with cheese, crackers, bagels, pickles, breakfast foods (waffles, bacon, sausage, french toast), carved ham and prime rib (with a real meat cutter under hot lamps... see my previous review of another brunch spot for why this is important!). Au jus and creme sauce for the meats! There were 2 trays of home made desserts, salads, and hot sides (all with trays filled to the brim!). To top it off we have a lovely string quartet playing throughout! Mimosas, bloody marys, and other drinks included. Again.. $36 bucks! I was so impressed! Each month, we pick a new local restaurant for brunch. The Roycroft Inn brunch buffet was definitely an enjoyable experience. The food was delicious and the wait staff was absolutely perfect. The unlimited mimosas, poinsettias and bloody Mary's were a nice touch. The only thing I'd have to say is that if you're on one of the diabetes medicines that cause you to get full quickly or lose your appetite quickly, then definitely it is a little too much to handle for $33. However there's definitely a great selection and again the quality of food is wonderful so definitely worth it for those who can eat their $33 worth read more

**COVID-19 REVIEW** I had a wonderful experience at the Roycroft this summer to celebrate my mother's birthday. During this pandemic, we got a reservation outside on their very long, open, and expansive porch area. We were there on a Tuesday at 2:00pm and we were socially distant from other diners as there were empty tables on either side of us and fans were going for circulation. It was a beautiful August day and we were all excited for what we knew was going to be an amazing meal. We arrived at the hostess stand; they had "enter only" and "exit only" areas designated for safety. We were promptly sat and had a wonderful waiter. We received complimentary bread (amazing!) and the lunch menu was very encompassing in that I wanted more than one entree! The service was perfect; fun, light, polite, and helpful with our questions. We truly enjoyed our time there and felt safe for the whole time. Went for a Sunday brunch during Covid phase four reopening with a small group of friends. After being seated and having our complimentary drink orders taken by the attentive and friendly staff we were advised when to go up to the buffet so as to maintain social distancing. The offering may have been a bit slimmer than normal and it was a bit different with the staff serving all dishes. In general they have done a fine job of keeping the feeling of a "buffet" while eliminating much of the risk involved in dining out. I would not hesitate to return. read more

We went for dinner arranged by someone else. it is a beautiful restaurant with excellent service. But the food was nowhere worth the price. My escargot appetizer was a disappointment. Every other time I got escargot, it was in the the steel dish with a little cup for each escargot. They are always cooked with butter and garlic. The Roycroft were overcooked, dry and without the butter or garlic taste. My entree was not great either. The salmon itself was good, but the rice was way undercooked and the Bok Choy had no taste. The second time that we stayed at The Roycroft Inn it was because we so much enjoyed the first time. The buildings are historic handcrafted products of the high minded Roycroft craftsman community which thrived in East Aurora. The spacious rooms are furnished with antique Roycroft furniture and Stickley reproductions. In the halls, photographs and articles tell the story of the place and the time. Then there is the restaurant! Then there is the staff!! The Roycroft is a worthwhile destination or detour when cruising US 90. read more
