What a great place!! Cute old building housing some of the best food I've had in ages. It's a buffet - all inclusive; food, beverage, dessert & tax included. Great service. Nice little salad bar, soup & at least three entrees with lots of sides. And, they were all so good. The fried chicken is their signature dish & was excellent. I have been to the Drake house before on a Sunday and I was impressed and was enjoyable that time. I took a friend today there, and it just didn't seem the same. The fried chicken was a little overdone, and the buffet didn't look as fresh or clean as it was the other time I was there. Another thing that I did not like, was seeing cleaning equipment within eye shot of my table, and also the workers didn't appear to be as clean as they should be. No safety gloves on wow working around the buffet food. On another note, the colored greens were very tasty, as well as the lima beans and the mashed potatoes, the macaroni and cheese was good, but I got the last that was in the pan so it was starting to get a little dry. The biscuit was good, but again I think it had been sitting for a while. I'm disappointed, but I will go back the next time on a Sunday and see if it is as good as it was when I went on a Sunday a couple of months ago... read more

We have passed this place a few times before never knowing anything about it. A friend said if we wanted a good home cooked style buffet we had to go here. So we came for lunch. They stop the buffet at 2:15 to close by 2:30 to get ready for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays. Otherwise they close every day by 2:30. The waitress told us they have different meats everyday and Facebook is the best place for that. I have to say the atmosphere is really neat, they seat you in different rooms. It's a big old house, not sure about the story of the building. Being our first time we really didn't know what was included or where the food was but we did find it fast. Then found a piece of paper on the table that says that the buffet is $15 including drink and dessert. Also it listed the desserts. The buffet was very small, just hot food and no salads. I did read previous reviews and they said the chicken was very good. So I saw some thighs and pieces of chicken I think was breast meat. There was also fish, and some ribs, plenty of veggie choices, corn, carrots, green beans, Italian flat beans, black beans, mashed potatoes, gravy, some soup, and some creamed corn. Mac and cheese, biscuits. Not sure if I forgot anything. The cream corn was very good, you could tell it was homemade. All the veggies are frozen most likely not canned. I was disappointed with the chicken since I love good fried chicken. The small pieces were white meat but dried out and not moist. I think it was sitting in the container for a bit, I only like white meat that's all I seen The sweet tea was good, it had that cute ice in it! Small pieces not crushed. Sorta Like sonic has. The desserts the waitress said were all homemade and that the chocolate cake was a favorite. The piece was small, and not what I expected. It was crumbly like stale tasting or sitting out too long not moist at all. My husband had the apple biscuit pudding. That was actually pretty good They were out of the sauce for the lemon pound cake his original pick. Overall the food was good, home cooked like My Mom made. Hard to find places that have good food. We really enjoyed the home made food ! Was like going to an old southern granny's house for Sunday dinner only better because of the huge selection of really tasty dishes ! The Chicken was good, but the best things I tasted were the fish and home made tarter sauce , and the little Buttermilk jelly Biscuits ! Salad bar had lots of tasty choices too ! If you want all you can eat authentic southern country cuisine with a little tiny bit of Greek influence, this is the place to get it ( except Popcorn shrimp did not fit the cuisine) ! You know how sometimes you psyche yourself up with high expectations after reading great reviews? This was that for me. Maybe the bar was set too high for the reality. It was just a buffet with choices of several vegetables and meats. We were there a little after Noon for lunch. I found the buffet food cramped in small serving containers but most disappointing - room temperature. Nothing was hot. Just not appetizing to me. I will say the fried chicken was very good. Meat loaf was cut into 2"pieces. Now for the desserts (you chose 1 after your meal) - I got chocolate pie and it was exactly 2 bites. The smallest slice of pie I have ever seen. Hey guys...I don't know what it is but I keep finding these whole in the walls...that turn out to be some of the best foods. This restaurant is located in South Carolina in a small town called Landrum...on a road in the middle of nowhere. Again was recommended to us by a friend...who has been SPOT ON every time. So it's an old house converted into a restaurant...pretty cool inside...great decor.Put as your seated your server comes out immediately explaining that it is a BUFFET...which includes your drink...all you can eat buffet and their homemade deserts...and the cost $15. So I thought...well that's a pretty good price seeing Golden Coral gets $20. So off I go...it had fried chicken...2 kinds of fish...ribs...mashed potatoes and gravy... green beans...creamed corn...carrots...fried onions...black beans...collard greens...homemade macaroni and cheese. I got a little bit of everything...just to try them out. So I got back to my table and my sweet tea was there...now guys...I'm not joking the best sweet tea EVER...not to sweet just a good...refreshing glass of sweet tea. Now let's get into the food...now their fried chicken is suppose to be phenomenal...guys it was PHENOMENAL...WOW. All the vegetables were fresh and I'm not crazy about collards...but I went up for seconds...homemade real mashed potatoes were awesome...all the food was cooked and seasoned perfectly...then out came desert...I ordered the apple biscuit pudding...homemade of course...when I tell you it was good no it was heavenly delicious...compliments to whoever made this...awesome...just all and all great dining experience...that you have got to try for yourself...you won't be disappointed. We found this place by accident being we are new to the area. The place was hopping so we thought something had to be good in there. Boy, what a find. It's a real cool nostalgic house with a buffet. The food was awesome and service best ever. The owner (Mike ) came by a few times to make sure we were ok but the waitress took very good care of us as well. For $18.50 we had food , drink, desert, all tax included. Not really that expensive when it's all included. We love this place and can't wait to go back. read more

Both indoor and outdoor seating. We were there at a super busy time (Sunday 1pm) so everyone was hopping, all seemed friendly. Not sure if they even take credit cards (they might) but cash is clearly preferred with easy cost, $20 per person all inclusive (buffet, drink, dessert, tax). Drove to SC to meet with daughter. We found this little restaurant on the internet, so we stopped in. It was Sunday afternoon so it was quite busy so we were put on a wait list. We were called to our table within 25 minutes. Not bad for a Sunday afternoon anywhere. Got inside and sat down. Was put in a small room with 5 other tables so it was quite tight to sit. I had to ask on table to move over a little so I could get though to get my food and I am not a big person so it appears that they are cramming too many tables in a room. We went to the buffet which I will say had to be the smallest buffet I have ever seen. The entire buffet was made from scratch. They do say that their chicken is the best in SC,but I have to differ with that statement. The chicken was COLD over cooked and burned. The best food on the buffet was the sweet potatoes. The price for Sunday brunch was quite high, $20 for each plate was high for what they had to offer. I was trying to understand what all the hype over the restaurant is, but could not figure it out. Spent a wonderful Sunday lunch here yesterday. The environment is really interesting. The front porch has tie dye tapestries hanging and hippie like flags. The inside is what you would expect grandmas house to look like if she lived in the traditional South. The place was packed but we were able to get a seat within minutes. The menu is buffet only. The price includes the buffet, a drink and a dessert. The fried chicken was out of this world. The yams and biscuits were also some of my favorites. The Mac and cheese was to die for. They also had fried okra, salad, and a casserole among other things. Every item I tried was delicious, perfect comfort food. They had two dessert options, both which has raisins. I mentioned I didn't like raisins and they were more than happy to give a piece of strawberry cake they had. Price was perfect for what you get. Antique shopping in Landrum and checked online for a place to have lunch and found the Drake House. We weren't sure what to expect but found great southern cooking served buffet style. Warm and inviting setting in an old house. Tables in several different rooms, all decorated differently. Food is not fancy but very good. We have always enjoyed eating at The Drake House, but haven't eaten there in about a year. We went Sunday afternoon around 2 PM. They were out of a lot of their menus choices we could understand that because they close at 3 PM. We ordered the fried chicken breast when it came out on our plate it was like no other chicken breast I've seen! We asked for bread and the waitress said that some was in the oven and she would bring it to us soon. Never saw her again with any bread or any refills on our drinks. When she finally came back to ask if we wanted desert they were out of all deserts with the exception of two. They even ran out of iced tea! We won't be going back. read more

After reading some of the good reviews about this place we decided to try it. The staff was not necessarily rude but indifferent. I was a little put off by their attitude. And parents beware.. This is not a kid friendly restaurant. My husband did ask ahead of time what was on the buffet to assure that there was something my son would eat. Chicken & Mac & Cheese they said. We should have asked to SEE the buffet for ourselves first. The chicken offered was dark meat only..thigh or leg and the Mac & Cheese was tasteless noodles with a thin layer of cheese baked on top. Even I wouldn't eat it, although I tried. Nothing was seasoned so if you're on a salt restricted diet this place is for you.
