Outside the restaurant. On the corner with lots of parking. Easy to get in and out.

Had a great experience. We chose this place because it was very close to the cottage we were staying in for the weekend. I got the ribeye and the husband got the hamburger steak. Both came with soup/salad bar which was very good. The soup was a sausage potato and was top 5 best soups I've had in a restaurant. The ribeye was cooked well and had a great flavor. The hamburger steak was good as well with very tasty grilled onions. Our server was super nice. We ate a lot of the salad and soup so we needed to take most of our entree home. She double checked we liked the food because so much was leftover. We told her is was some of the best food we've had while traveling, which is true. The restaurant itself is cute. I could see where eating on the porch would be fun during good weather. Inside is not too dark and not too loud. They had tables and booths (we prefer tables and sometimes that's a problem). Overall a solid five stars.

This place is always crowded so I tried today. Lunch menu not clearly marked on website but staff was outstanding in that they gave us special order. Sadly food was very salty and afraid not for us. We did not realize it's a buffet which we rarely utilize...prices were very reasonable for food which probably reason for crowds. The restaurant is so adorable as you can see from pictures and disappointed food did not match the ambiance. Maybe we just picked wrong day to try and buffet or dinner and breakfast menu are better.

I came here on the recommendation of the front desk manager at the hotel I was staying in and I must admit I almost skipped it over in favor of an Italian place, which would definitely have been my loss. This restaurant is a slowly vanishing breed of culinary gem. A family owned local place for locals and those fortunate ones like myself who are clued into this gastronomic find. Tonight they offered a barbecue buffet, which was simply fantastic. Pork, ribs, turkey, fried chicken, and all the various sides. Not to mention the soup and salad bar. I must confess I probably did not need all I consumed, but at least I declined the dessert that came with it. Another amazing thing about here is the friendly nature of the restaurant. Not only from the servers, but the customers. Conversation flowed freely amongst several tables, good natured banter all accompanied by happy smiles. I strongly recommend a visit here if you find yourself in the Asheville, North Carolina area.

Saw this place as we were driving by and decided to check it out...must be good because the Rescue Squad is eating here. They have a great breakfast buffet with an attended fresh omlet station! Some of the many choices were crepes filled with ricotta cheese and topped with strawberry sauce (my favorite), French toast, pancakes; ham, bacon, and sausage; cheesy potatoes, hash browns, home fries, eggs Benedict and apples in sauce. On a Sunday morning I was surprised this place wasn't busier. We had a very short wait and were very pleased with our meal. At one of the more well known places we would have waited an hour. So glad we picked this place! Our waitress said this buffet is only on Sunday. The are open for lunch and dinner too. See reviews of other meals on Google Maps.

Excellent prime rib and one of the few salad bars in the area. Reasonable prices. You will not leave hungry.

This restaurant is totally awesome. The wait staff is friendly. When they are busy, you may have to wait a little while, but it's worth it.

What's the prices of the buffet for dinner?

It was reasonable, $15-18. Sorry I can’t remember exactly.

Three nice sized pieces of cod, battered all crispy and fried just right. It came out of the kitchen sizzling hot. We have ordered fish and chips from Maine to Galveston, Seattle to Key West. They don't get better than this! Just to compare, we also ordered the fried shrimp basket. Another clear winner! The shrimp were very fresh and the batter was deliciously crispy, sizzling hot as they arrived at the table. The staff was warm and friendly, and they accommodated with a smile every customer who walked in the door. I can't rave about the ambiance like I raved about the food but hey, we sat at a clean 2-top and what else could we need. Just between you and me I overheard the front man tell a customer there is a $3 discount on fish and chips on Friday. Don't tell anyone!

My partner ordered the lobster roll and was pleased with the the quantity of lobster, size and taste of bun, as well as the side salad that it comes with. I had the fish and chips. 3 decent sized pieces of a thinly coated fresh perfectly cooked cod. A good stack of crispy french fries and side of coleslaw. The plates are smallish rectangles. The fish sits stop the fries. Condiments were individual packets. What I wish I knew about eating the fish ahead of time. The thin battered crust broke apart very easily which led to the fish flakes falling out. Couldn't dip in tartar sauce without it disintegrating. It was a struggle to enjoy it the way I normally eat fish and chips. The trying to squirt out tiny amounts of ketchup for the fries was an additional pain. We enjoyed the seafood and will be back with my own bottle of ketchup and will ask for an additional plate to separate the fries from the fish.

I found Chestnut on Yelp and decided to wander in. The space has this elevated modern rustic vibe with a southern twist and a little bit of sass. They even sell shirts that say neither hoity nor toity, which cracked me up. Honestly, the atmosphere was great, but our waitress was the real star. She was absolutely phenomenal and looked after us perfectly. My palate was pretty fried, so I started with a Bloody Mary to wake up. Truth be told, it was just okay. The house mix had an odd flavor that nobody at the table could quite identify, and it seriously lacked spice. It was just kinda bland. I noticed a bottle of Firewalker hot sauce on the table, and splashing that in helped a little bit. After that, I transitioned to a mimosa. You really cannot mess up a mimosa too much, and it was a solid, reliable second drink. For the main event, I ordered the southern chicken and waffles. This came with a fried chicken breast sitting on golden malted waffles, smothered in sausage gravy, and drizzled with chipotle honey. It was a really great dish. The kitchen did a solid job with the fry on the chicken, and the gravy had a nice flavor. It leaned a little on the sweet side because of the honey, but it was not totally overdone. The real sleeper hit of the morning, though, was the side of cheesy grits. Those grits were absolute heaven. They were incredibly creamy and perfectly seasoned. If you go, you have to order them. Chestnut is in a great location, and despite the weak Bloody Mary, it was a stellar visit.

Worth Planning Your Asheville Trip Around…read more As a Bay Area foodie, navigating around San Francisco's incredible restaurant scene taught me to appreciate thoughtful cooking, quality ingredients, and genuine hospitality. Chestnut had been on my Asheville dining list long before I arrived, and after spending several days exploring Boone, Blowing Rock, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, I made it my dinner splurge before heading home. It absolutely delivered. A quick tip: skip the hunt for street parking and head straight to the garage across the street. The first hour is free, and downtown Asheville can be congested with both vehicle and foot traffic. I arrived around 5:30 without a reservation and was warmly greeted by the hostess, who offered me a table or a seat at the bar. Asheville was surprisingly hot and humid compared to the cool mountain weather I'd been enjoying, so the air-conditioned dining room was an easy choice over the sidewalk patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful. Fresh flowers, warm lighting, elegant stone countertops, comfortable booths, tables, and bar seating create an atmosphere that feels polished without being stuffy. What stood out most was the mix of guests. There were locals greeting staff by name, couples enjoying date night, families with children, and older guests gathering with friends. It felt welcoming and comfortable for everyone. As a solo diner, the bar was the perfect choice. I enjoyed all the energy of the restaurant while still having a peaceful dining experience. I started with a glass of Brut Rosé from Spain. Crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, it was the perfect way to settle in after a warm afternoon. Then came the Lobster Bisque. As someone who has made lobster bisque from scratch, I know the work that goes into creating a great one. Chestnut's version, made with Oak & Grist Reserve Cream and finished with fresh chives, was outstanding. Rich, silky, velvety, and loaded with tender pieces of lobster. If I'm being incredibly picky, I would have enjoyed just a touch more sherry, but that's purely personal preference. The smaller serving vessel kept the bisque hot from first spoonful to last, which I appreciated. My only complaint was that I wanted a larger serving because it was that good. For my entrée, I ordered the 4-ounce Petite Filet. The steak arrived cooked a perfect medium rare with excellent flavor and texture. It was served with butter-whipped mashed potatoes, haricot verts, a crisp potato gaufrette, red wine demi-glace, and chive butter. Every component was thoughtfully prepared. The demi-glace added richness without overwhelming the beef, while the potato gaufrette provided a delicate crunch. My only minor critique was that the plate could have been served a bit hotter, but the quality of the food more than made up for it. One of the highlights of the evening was the service. Taylor, part of the management team, was personable, knowledgeable, and genuinely welcoming. After my sparkling wine, he suggested a half-glass pour of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir since I was driving. Excellent recommendation. The wine was elegant, earthy, and beautifully balanced, pairing perfectly with the filet. As the evening progressed, the restaurant filled quickly. Watching the staff greet regulars by name and efficiently manage the growing crowd spoke volumes about how well-run the restaurant is. You could tell many guests were repeat customers, which is always a good sign. After dinner, I attempted to walk off my meal through downtown Asheville, but the summer heat quickly convinced me to head back to my hotel. I left full, happy, and already thinking about that lobster bisque. For a Bay Area foodie who plans entire trips around memorable meals, Chestnut exceeded expectations. Great food, thoughtful service, an inviting atmosphere, and a dining experience that felt special without trying too hard. If you're visiting Asheville, put Chestnut on your list. Life is too short for mediocre meals, and this one is worth making time for.
