Driving thru Michigan we kept seeing their billboards on the highway so we decided to stop for lunch on a Monday. It was not very crowded and we're seating immediately. For some reason it was very cold inside so we asked to be moved onto their patio even tho is overlooks the back of their building and parking lot. My wife had their Southwest Salad which had a lot of BBQ Ranch dressing on it. Suggest it on the side! I had their Detroit Style pizza with sausage and pepperoni made with a Featherbone Bourbon crust. it was just ok as the sauce is basically on top and not evenly spread on the pizza. Their menu has some unique items but nothing really impressed us. The interior is very nice and if it wasn't so cold,it might have been a more enjoyable experience. read more

Food was good, but I was really disappointed that our appetizer arrived on the exact same serving tray as our dinner. This is the second time it has happened at this restaurant, so I feel compelled to say something after letting it slide the first time. In my opinion, appetizers and entrées should be served separately. If the kitchen can't manage that, the only way to avoid it seems to be withholding our dinner selections until the appetizer arrives--or simply skipping appetizers altogether. I expressed my disappointment to the server, but the response was surprisingly indifferent. Perhaps it was a lack of experience, but given that this has now happened twice, it's clearly something the restaurant needs to address. read more

My group arrived tired and starving after a long day at the beach. We didn't have reservations and the wait was about 45 minutes. We were provided golf putters to use on the green out in the back. There were also a few games for kids like connect 4 and large building blocks.plenty of seating out there. When we finally got seated, the service was prompt, our server, Jessica Rogers was fabulous! I had the grilled chicken sandwich, a few of the group had the meatloaf and the blackened chicken with pasta. Rave reviews for all of the food, it was delicious. We were from out of town and had researched places to go for dinner and Staymaker seemed like a great choice; it was not. It was confusing to look at the website and figure out what portion was the distillery, restaurant and outdoor golf area. Unfortunately, it just seems to be a hyped up tourist location. Our waitress was nice, but seemed to be understaffed. It was incredibly noisy and almost impossible to carry a conversation so we mainly sat and stared at each other; occasionally attempting to mime a sentence or two. The smoked trout spread was enjoyable and if you do visit, worth trying. The southwest salad isn't worth trying; it is a decent size but the chicken is flavorless and the onion rings take over the dish We shared The Journeyman pizza and it was mediocre but again, not worth trying. The crust was doughy and heavy and the toppings weren't evenly dispersed so several bites were just blue cheese and some were just olives. Overpriced for what it was. Would not recommend especially with the other restaurants that are around. Our biggest regret was spending our one night (and a couple hundred dollars) at this establishment. read more

Never disappointing! Great diversity in the menu - everyone must try the soft pretzels and drink an Old Fashion, if you are a lover. The place has a great vibe and the service is top notch. If the back bar is open, it's worth a visit. Because I want it all, it would be awesome to have a wine selection and have smaller portions. read more

But, all said - I'm already planning my next trip back with friends. We sat the bar and had the following: *Heritage Spirit Flight (popcorn bourbon, farm rye, farm bourbon, corsets, whips, & whiskey, high rye bourbon - aged 7-years): I mostly ended up with this flight because it had the most JD bourbons I HADN'T tried yet. Little did I know like 3 of these are experimental 'brews' with $170 for 750mL price tags!! And guess what? Of COURSE I liked the real expensive one haha. I'll be back for it! *House-made pub pretzel (featherbone three mustard sauce cheddar cheese sauce) - such a solid and DELICIOUS soft pretzel. The sauces were perfection too. I could eat like 3 of these *FRIED BRUSSELS SPROUTS (bacon barrel-aged maple syrup lemon) - i love flash fried brussels. These were super flavorful and tasty. *PRIME RIB SKILLET (home-style potatoes mushrooms jalapeno onions monterey jack cheese poached eggs) - this is a brunch item and was the most disappointing of the dishes. The beef was just SUPER dry. good overall flavors though. Also I KNOW fruit flies love love the environment that distilleries and breweries create, but you gotta manage your bugs y'all! We got the pork rinds app/ didn't love that the sauce came on top, because the kids weren't able to eat the buffalo sauce (spicy). *Next time I'd get the sauces on the side! Part of the Journeyman experience! A must if in area! On a Sunday early afternoon, there was a 45 minute plus wait, so we opted to sit an the bar and was seated within 5 minutes. Located in an 1800 Featherbone and Corsets Factory. There were several empty tables, so not sure what was going on. However, the service at the bar was excellent. I tried the Purple Rain and appreciated our bartender telling me to get my camera ready. I was not expecting the drink to change color, but it did. The mixture of flavors, worked so well together. My husband had a cherry old fashioned a barrel aged old fashioned. The drinks are worth stopping in. For food we had the Journeyman Pizza with bourbon crust. It was Detroit style pizza , but was nothing special. The sauce seemed to be quickly spooned on the pizza resulting in uneven drops and the olives were not sliced as we expected . My husband also had the potato chowder soup. He said it was good, but salty. They offer tours and there is a putting green! They sell their whiskey and bourbon , along with other merchandise. When it initially started up we thought it was only a distillery. One time passing through the area we noticed it had a restaurant as well. Well we finally made it here. The menu looked pretty good, while we were looking it over I started off with a Classic Manhattan. Although it seemed burgers were the specialty, my wife and I opted for the French dip. There was also a choice of beer as well so I added a Pilsner to my list of trials. Both of the adult beverage were pretty good. The French dip was a little sloppy, the Au Jus added to that, but was also pretty good. There will definitely be a return trip! read more

Lots of great cocktail options. I had the OVG Turkey, it was really good and a nice portion size. The fries were tasty as well. I would not recommend the potato salad as a side. It was way too acidic. No one at my table enjoyed it. My friend had the Adobe pork sandwich and enjoyed it. I had an Apple cider drink, it was delicious! Stopped by the Staymaker for lunch before a fun day of wine tasting. We started out with a mixture of cocktails: Blueberry Thyme Buck, The Anniversary, Married Down, Cherry Old Fashioned. All cocktails offered are made from their housemade distilled spirits that are also sold on site. Their whiskeys are the highest rated and most cocktail offerings revolve around that spirit type, but there truly is something for everyone on menu. Our group got a mixture of detroit style pizza and sandwiches. Portions were big and every one of us had leftovers to take home. I was most excited to get a pizza with diya vegan cheese as this is not offered many places! After ordering, our server let us know they were actually out of dairy free cheese. I instead got the burger which they kindly made me a vegan comeback sauce to make up for the pizza. It was so nice for them to go the extra mile and make accommodations for me. The restaurant itself is only one part of what Journeyman offers. One can do a distillery tour, utilize the event spaces upstairs, or there is a mini golf course in the back. My husband and I went for an early New Years dinner yesterday. Our server Gabe was outstanding ! He navigated us through the menu as we had not eaten there before. Gabe helped my husband with beer choices and had great suggestions for my cocktails. The food was delicious and the atmosphere very pleasant. We even had a visit to our table from the general manager. She was friendly and engaging. It was an enjoyable time all the way. I dream about the Smoked Trout dip here. When you walk into Journeyman, you're inundated with the smell of whiskey and greeted by super friendly employees. Their food and drink menu is extensive, so you're at no loss for choices. You can't go wrong with most of them and they give decent portions that justify the price. It gets busy, I'd recommend a reservation, but it's not absolutely necessary. One of my favorite places to eat in the Michiana area! read more
