This is definitely not the place to go for atmosphere but the service was friendly. Biscuits and gravy was okay but could use more sausage. Do not ask for extra crispy hash browns because they might be a bit burnt. I did not care for the English muffin in the eggs benedict but the rest of it was okay. They do not make their own corned beef hash. The Meijer brand orange juice was not very good. If you have basil that is not in good condition, then shred it and leave out the bad parts. We were vacationing in the New Buffalo, MI area and having a difficult time finding an open breakfast place nearby on a Tuesday. After finding Lydia's online, we decided to take a drive and give it a try. When we entered, we definitely got the feeling Lydia's is a comfortable gathering place for locals. We were greeted, chose a table and placed our drink orders. Our server was friendly and efficient. My better half opted for the breakfast burrito covered with sausage gravy and accompanied by hash browns (off the posted specials board) and I went with a skillet (can't recall the name) stacked with hash browns, open-faced biscuit, sausage patties, gravy and two over easy eggs. Our food was served promptly and both were delicious in a very satisfying, down home cookin' comfort kind of way. The portions were huge; we could've easily gotten three meals out of each! Out here measuring a floor for vinyl, which is what I do and I was hungry. It was 1230 and I stopped at this little dinger. I'm on a diet so I don't eat a lot of stuff but I ordered scrambled eggs well done covered with well done grilled onions, coffee Piece of dry whole wheat toast and some honey to put on it and it was perfect. Everything was perfect. They gave me too many eggs. I could tell it was more than two but that's OK. I didn't eat. The whole thing. Always thought about stopping here based on some of the reviews we've seen. Well the place we originally wanted to stop at was closed so we decided to take the plunge. What a plunge!! This place is definitely a candidate for Restaurant Impossible. Just about every chair had a duct tape repair...and not just a single piece of tape, we're talking major. At least they tried to color match. The rest of the place was right out of the 60's. The pictures on the wall were for sale but I can't imaging, based on the clientele, any one would even care that there were pictures on the wall... The waitress and other staff were very pleasant. They took our order right away. I ordered the Ham and cheese omelette and my wife ordered the Tower Hill, which is basically like a southern Benedict on top an order of hash browns. 45 Minutes Later...On the verge of paying for the coffee and leaving, the food came out. Well for me, it wasn't worth the wait. I prefer some eggs with my cheese...holy cow. There were some nice hams chunks, the cheese was Waayyy too much. My wife said the Tower Hill was pretty good. I thought the gravy was a little bland. The sausage and eggs were done well. Honesty...We'll never be back. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is that the coffee was decent. But this is a terrible way to treat customers. 3.5 stars would be a more accurate rating, but I think 4 stars would be too generous. I stopped in here for dinner tonight based on positive Yelp reviews. Those reviews really focused on breakfasts. It's only recently that Lydia's has begun serving dinner and then only on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. This is a pretty basic restaurant. They advertise homestyle cooking at reasonable prices and I agree with that assessment. The place was crowded and the clientele seemed like locals to me rather than tourists that frequent this area. That tells me the place is meeting expectations. My sister-in-law and I both ordered the NY strip steak that was on special. While service was fast, friendly and efficient, I have to say that this was not a great piece of meat. Not living in this area I can't say what I should have expected from a $17 12 oz steak. But the meat was a bit tough to cut. The rather flimsy steak knife didn't help matters. And I think it was cooked on a griddle rather than a grill. It did arrive a perfect medium rare, just as ordered. And it was flavorful enough despite being a bit too lean. The steak was served with a nice baked potato and a canned vegetable. That was pretty much as expected so I wasn't disappointed. I will have to visit again sometime to try the breakfasts. If those are as good as other reviews indicate I will adjust my rating. read more

We were staying in a hotel a couple miles away and needed a good breakfast place. This was a cute, small town place with good no-nonsense food. I got a skillet with lots of veggies, egg, potatoes and meat. They also had a good kids menu and yummy coffee. Probably the best part, though, was our waitress Hailey. She was so sweet, friendly and gave great service. My mom has a very limited diet and she helped find something my mom could eat. If I lived nearby I would eat here all the time. read more

We were spending the long weekend at Warren Dunes State Park. Needed an afternoon away from our group so we opened Yelp and found Lydia's. It is close to the dunes and my daughter is named Lydia, so this was a no brainer. Kids split a full stack of pancakes. Wife and I split a burger. Quick service, good food. I see the 4 stars and scratch my head. We have been to Lydias pre Covid, it was "okay", not 4 star worthy, we thought we would try again. The server was friendly and very quick to take our order, down hill after that. We sat for 28 minutes waiting for 2 skillets ordered off the menu. The place is only 50% capacity, good thing. Another couple got up and left after waiting an excess of 25 minutes. Food was okay, not worth the 28 minute wait. Probably the last time we go, I did love their table signs "reserved for governor Whitmere". 2 stars was for the wait staff working hard. read more

I have eaten here only once, but have to say that the very large omelet was top of the line, absolutely excellent, thus the 5- star rating. The coffee was as good as any other restaurant, the hash browns were just as they should be, and the toast was the way I like it. I will remember and get back here again for a meal soon.
