Susan's is challenging to write a review about because the descriptions of the service, the food, and the excellent environment are going to read as inflated. They aren't. We have had a dozen lovely meals here- always with excellent service, great drinks, and delightful food. Last night, while inhaling the ribs and Japanese Sweet Potato, a polished older woman came up to the table and told me she got the ribs, too. Both of us looking at each other and smiling in recognition. Some version of that interaction has happened whenever we have been there. Everyone happy to be there. Tables making friends. Servers going above and beyond. Exclamations about what you are eating. Cecelia runs a beautiful and tight ship. It is a delight to come here.

As a new homeowner in the area, I've been dying to find great restaurants that make me feel like I'm eating dinner in Chicago. Enter Susan's! We were able to get a same night reservation on the patio and they are dog friendly as well! Brought our guy a bowl of water too. The prices are definitely higher than other places in the area but well worth it. We started with the beef tartare and cheddar cheese spread. The homemade crackers were outstanding! We also shared the Cavatelli and Japanese Sweet Potato. I loved everything! Our server was wonderful and helpful, and the atmosphere of the whole patio and restaurant were inviting and beautiful. So glad we found Susan's and can't wait wait to return.

Great ambiance, attentive service, and tasty tapas. We tried the salted cod, mixed greens, Brussel sprouts, short rib, salmon, chicken, chocolate hazelnut mousse and upside down cake. Service was excellent and the timing of the dishes was spot on. For the shared tapas, we especially enjoyed the salted cod, a purée of salted cod served with rustic bread pieces. The salmon, short rib and chicken were prepared perfectly and the wine selections paired nicely with the limited menu offerings. After a delicious meal, our group of 6 decided to share a few desserts to finish off the evening. We were disappointed and surprised hot tea and espresso were not available to enjoy after our dinner, especially for a higher end restaurant. Overall, we enjoyed our time and look forward to our next gathering at Susan's.

We really enjoyed our visit to Susan's. Such a great addition to this beautiful area of SW Michigan, and the town of Sawyer. Our server, Jayden, made some great suggestions for us despite my wife's razzing humor. The busy chef was friendly and appreciated our feedback. The flavor of the different dishes we had really stood out. For instance, the Japanese sweet potato is roasted just right, and gets put through the roof with the addition of honey and butter! The fish prep on our visit was halibut, and beautifully prepared, really flavorful! The desert of pistachio sponge cake with smoked strawberries was amazing. We enjoyed an after dinner wine on their beautiful patio. Cannot wait to return on our next visit!

Best food in SW Michigan. Would be nice to have water or be checked on during dinner (no water and empty wine glasses with dinner).

We ended our meal with Spanish coffee, equally delicious even though our mixer said she'd never made one before. In-between, we enjoyed tuna tartare, oyster bisque, Cajun walleye with hush puppies, a smoky Cajun gumbo, beignets with chocolate sauce and an Argentine malbec. All EXCELLENT!!! If you haven't been to the Historian, you're missing out. Great food, friendly service, nice vibe and decent prices.

It was refreshing to peruse an interesting small plates menu which we would definitely go back to try on a future visit. There is also a traditional menu as well as a special menu on weekends prepared by a guest chef featuring international cuisine. We tried the "Thai Night" menu and especially enjoyed the vegetarian potstickers in a delicious Thai sauce and the noodle salad with shrimp. The flavors were layered, with a delicate creamy texture and just the right amount of spice. There is a parking lot on site and reservations are a must on weekends, although an early arrival might get you a nice spot at the bar!

We ordered the whitefish, which was really good, very buttery and generous portion size. The ribs were fairly tender but salty. The coleslaw was nice and I liked the potato salad the best (compared to the fries or red potato side options). My husband and was very interested in the walleye, but we wanted to mix it up. It was nice to share a little meat and fish. Our toddler ate up all the kids mac and cheese. And the blueberry fruit pie with ice cream was a fun way to end the meal - not too sweet. Sometimes you know you're in the right place before you even sit down…read more The smell that hit us when we walked into Lake Street Eats immediately made us look at each other and say, "Yep... we're eating here." It was our first visit, and the bartender quickly welcomed us, asked how we were enjoying the Bridgman area, and made us feel right at home. You could tell he genuinely enjoyed being there, joking with what seemed like several regulars seated around the bar. That kind of atmosphere is hard to fake. We started with the cheese curds, and I have one request for the owners: please bottle whatever dipping sauce comes with them. The portion was generous, and I'd give the cheese curds a solid 9/10 on the stretch meter, which I consider an important scientific measurement. We paired them with a local IPA and a Modelo while taking in the relaxed neighborhood vibe. Between the friendly staff, local décor, full bar, and laid-back atmosphere, it felt like one of those places where locals become regulars. The only minor downside was that it was pretty warm inside during our visit, but it was also a warm day outside, so it didn't take away from the experience. Next time we're in Bridgman, we'll be aiming for one of the outdoor tables. We'll definitely be back--and probably ordering those cheese curds again.
