I was impressed that I got a really tasty vegetarian meal here, what with "steak" being in their name and all. I had the southwestern salad, hold the chicken, and it was really enjoyable and fresh. No limp lettuce for me! Their fries and chocolate malts are delicious as well. My only complaint is that all of their salads automatically come with some kind of meat on them, and the prices reflect this, but when you ask to hold the meat, the price stays the same. Now, this reflects such a trivial difference in price that I almost feel stupid for bringing it up, but a lot of other places have 'add chicken for $1' type deals, and something like that here would be great, too. read more

Loved this place growing up. However, the service has always been its Achilles heel, and this was no different. Came in with five others and waited 30 mins for food, two of which orders were not made correctly. Waitress was nice but just not on top of it. I hate giving a five star rating to a fast food place, but there is no way to get around it this time. On our way through town we stopped here to feed the kids. Even though the dining area was full, our waitress was friendly and efficient. Seems like she was also taking drive-thru orders. Our service was ridiculously fast. I was amazed. All four of us had different milkshakes and a different meal order. All of it was exactly as ordered and delicious. Again, amazingly fast. If I could give negative stars I would. Yes, this is a busy S&S, but on Friday night, 8/29, it wasn't that busy... In the time we were there, several customers were seated and left without being served, and it appeared that no one was really concerned about it. It took 30 minutes to get water - after we asked our server for it. Our food had still not arrived after being seated for 45 minutes. At 50 minutes we got our food, but still had to wait & ask about our shakes. The shake was by far THE WORST shake I have ever had at S&S and I have been eating at S&S since I was a small child. We frequently eat at this S&S as we live nearby - we know there might be a little wait, but have never experienced anything this bad. Never once saw a manager - except when we checked out. Worst steak n shake I've been to. Horrible service. Staff were clueless. Waited a long time to get seated while staff ignored us while they gossiped with each other at the front. Probably 10 tables un-bussed. Many unrefilled drinks. Brought me someone else's order and forgot what mine was. The ketchups tasted like mold or sweaty feet (tried three different containers). I really wish I could give some of these local fast food restaurants a no star review. Service here is horrible, food takes forever to get to you, when it does get to you it's cold. They don't know how to ring up a meal. Every time I have gone in there I have been over charged. My husband and I went through the drive thru and they forgot to put our cheese sauce in the sack. We noticed, but it wasn't a huge deal to us so we went to leave. As we're about to turn onto the main Street we hear someone yelling for us. One of the employees ran out of the restaurant and across the parking lot just to give us our cheese sauce. Ordered online at 6:28pm for a pickup at 6:45pm. Got to the restaurant at 6:53. Order was not even started. Had to wait for another 10 min while they cook and prepare the order. Horrible. Another gentleman before me was waiting for them to get his order correct. Had to remake the order at least 2 times. Worst service that i have seen. Employees need better time management. The restaurant was moderately busy, and although it appeared to be well-staffed, we found poor quality food, and slow service. We were waiting for takeout, so we could see what was (or wasn't) happening behind the counter. No one seemed to be managing the workflow, and although everyone seemed to be doing something, they were doing it slowly. Looking for a quick and yummy dinner? Definitely DO NOT recommend. Stopped by the drive-thru for a late dinner and their system was temporarily down, which wouldn't have mattered had the associate correctly written down our order and not rolled her eyes when we asked her to add the meal she missed. Having ordered two junior shakes of the same kind and one meal, it wasn't a problem for us to kindly repeat the order back to said associate anyways! At this point we were feeling the frustration from the associate as she yelled across the restaurant to her coworker (with the window open) "I'm trying to pull myself away from this drive-thru so I can take this melting shake out," repeatedly. Trying our best to be understanding, we kindly thanked her for our food and left the drive-thru only to find fries completely spilled in the bag and tasting stale, ranch open in the bag without a lid, and two nutella shakes tasting like mint. Easily the worst experience I've ever had at a Steak & Shake. We were there at 9:00 A.M. on Monday. We waited both inside (at a booth as well as at the front counter) and outside at the drive-thru for a total of 20 minutes with no acknowledgement from any of the staff that we were there. We could hear activity back in the kitchen area, so there was definitely staff present. After returning home, I called the corporate office to report what happened. The representative, after I had said we never were served, asked for the store number from our receipt. After explaining a second time we had never been served, the representative said she couldn't locate the location in her system. I had to look it up on my tablet & provide her with the store information. After taking my information, the customer service rep advised that a district manager would be in contact with me to discuss what happened. So far, that has yet to happen. This would tell me their problems run deepre than the single store. read more

So I have been to this location maybe 6 times over the past 2 years. This time it was late at night, went into work about 1130pm to handle an issue, then decided to stop by for a quick meal. I walked in and the sign said, wait to be seated, so I waited. The young waitress walked past me, without saying a word, and set down to finish her side work. Then she looked at me again and said "oh do you need a table?" uh yea. So she seated me at the 1st clean table, I counted about 6-7 dirty tables. After just a couple minutes a waiter came up to take my order, great, I order a DBL Steak Burger w/FF and a cup of chili. As I was waiting the young waitress that finally sat me was wrapping silverware and talking to her friends at the next table, no big deal. A couple of people walked in and the young waitress made a comment to her friends, don't make eye contact, REALLY! I know after a long shift all you want to do is get your side work done and leave. But seriously, dirty tables, ignoring customers, not good. So finally a waitress drops my sandwich and fries off, no chili, I ask her if I can get my chili. She says, I will be right back.Nope she wasn't. The waiter stopped by to see if I needed anything, maybe my chili, I told him to take the chili off the bill since I didn't get it. I grab a fry, they were cold,GREAT.Good news sandwich was hot and tasty. So I finish my sandwich and head to the counter to pay. I think the guy behind the counter was a management person. He asks me how everything was and I told him that I have had better. I told him to take off the chili since I didn't get it, which he did. Then he went on to blame the waiter because he was new. OK now, I am an easy customer, greet me with somewhat of a smile, sit me at a clean table, serve me what I ordered preferably HOT, check back with me once or twice and Im good. In conclusion: I have been in management in the restaurant biz,years ago. You cant really blame the employee for everything. If the manager on duty was out in the dining room they would have seen the dirty tables and they would be able to guide the NEW employee and provide proper training.I like going to Steak n Shake, but it seems this location needs some help. read more

When a drive through takes at least 20 minutes the restaurant shouldn't have a drive through. I was also kept waiting at the speaker for at least 5 minutes before a person was able to even take our order. Moral of the story, stake n shake isn't fast food and its best not to look under the bun it isn't the prettiest and they use minimal sauce. If you want a place you can spend as long as your want with your friends chatting along this is the place to go. If you're looking for some good food that you'll have in less than 5 minutes... This place sucks. First thing i hear when I walk in is the servers talking crap about customers. Don't go here late at night the servers are so rude. While the server lady was taking my order she was having a full on conversation with her co worker about her carpal tunnel! IN THE MIDDLE OF MY ORDER! Then the other server said "ew that's so gross" while behind the counter and then explains that there were MOLDY tea bags under the counter that had already been used! Both times were in the morning (around 9). The floors were dirty with trash and dropped food. When we sat down there was a French fry under the table covered in ants. Did the kids get kids drinks? Nope- full price charge. The fries were not good- like shoestrings. The burgers were good, comparable to Culver's (not quite as big) and the strawberry shake was made with strawberry syrup instead of real strawberries. If I could I would give them zero stars! My daughter and I went to have dinner there the other night. The only thing nice I can say about our experience was the waitresses friendliness. We sat and waited for a good 10 minutes before she came and took our drink order; we ordered our dinner when we ordered our drinks too. After we got our drinks, we sat and watched a table of 8 be seated and served before us, a table of 6 be seated and served before us, as well as a couple be seated and served before us. We didn't even order anything complicated; my daughter ordered corn dogs and I ordered a taco salad. I will have you know that I do not complain at restaurants, ever. I feel like it's inconvenient for the waitress and the chef, not to mention the manager if they have to come over to the table to speak with me. I waited a good 35 minutes and no one ever came and said that our order would be right out or asked if we needed refills on our drinks. I will also tell you that I am nearing 30 years old and never have I ever ordered a meal and then left a restaurant. I did that day though; I left $5 on the table and walked out.
