Honestly couldn't disagree more with the majority of these reviews. Came in with a party of 15 and was quickly sat and received our food in under 15 minutes. Our waitress was so kind and considerate and checked back in on us frequently for drink refills and other requests. Honestly the best steak 'n shake experience I've ever had. Horrible, absolutely, horrible experience. late at night on a Friday and we were very hungry or we would have walked out based on CLEANLINESS alone. It was disgusting. Got seated fairly quickly, but there were at least 6 empty, dirty tables all around that never got cleaned by the time we left. Not very appetizing to look at all through your meal time. Food took forever, barely lukewarm, order wrong, waiter tolerable, food meh.They were not even that busy. Bathroom needed attention. When we checked out, we were asked how everything was, and we told her exactly how we felt about our experience, she said, "really?" and took our money. Took us a while to find an open store and it was very disappointing. Food was fine but store was so short-staffed we felt sorry for them. Tables with plates that were never cleared. Worst service ever! We stood and watched 7 staff members stand around and talk for quite a while while we waited to be seated. Finally when we decided to leave, a very grumpy host, Bill, came to seat us. We should have left anyway! He was rude, to say the least. While our waitress was nice, we watched others that came in after us get their food before we did. Finally after looking at our food sitting on the counter for aprox. 5 min, I called the waitress over and asked if she could check to see if that was our food sitting there. She responded, "It is your food but we're waiting on two more chicken fingers." wtf??? You made our food minus TWO chicken fingers. No sense what so ever. Foods always good when they get the order right, in the drive thru expect awful service and to be in line for a minimum of 20 minutes even if there's only two cars. Expect about ten minutes to place your order through the box too, seems like it takes an eternity. Good luck. read more

Not sure why I keep going back. Perhaps with the hope of an improved experience in food quality, service and cleanliness. Today, no good, again. Ordered a plain cheeseburger, fries; thought this would be an easy one. Waited 32 minutes in the drive thru only to get a burnt burger (burnt to a crisp) with rock hard bun and fries that were so hard you couldn't even bite them in half. The young man working the drive through had a horrible demeanor and made me feel like I was imposing on him for showing up at the restaurant. Why do we continue to put up with the poor service disrespectful employees and food that is inedible. Folks we have to change these dynamics in our communities through good ole capitalism. My friends and I love to go here for a cheap meal, the food is great for cheap fast food, but it's still cheap fast food. I give the food a five (again, a five for fast food) but the service has just gone way downhill. They're always polite, but that doesn't make up for the slow service. The shakes often get mixed up and never come before or even DURING the meal anymore. You have to nag and nag them or you will never get your shake. They usually just hand it to you in a carry out cup when you pay... Unacceptable. When it's busy, some of the waiters can't seem to manage all their tables and either are rushed or forget about you entirely. This location has great staff!! They serve with a smile on their face. The meals were hot and not a long wait.

As much as I enjoy coming here for the food, the customer service from ALL staff is dissatisfying. I never have gotten my shake ordered with the meal, it always comes after everyone has finished. This past week My family and a friends family came after a school event and the waiter put us all on one check, 7 people (3 kids, 4 adults). The bill was under 25 dollars (with the kids eat free) We went to the register and our friends paid first, it was our turn to pay and we were told we owed 27 dollars.. We were shocked. Since the bill as a whole was less than our total. The lady we spoke to was rude, and called me a liar multiple times. Pretty good for your "run of the mill" burger place. We actually got the breakfast this morning, which was very affordable, and really a great value considering how much food you get! I got the california skillet meal for only around $6, and not only included the skillet meal (eggs,chicken, hashbrowns, pico de gallo cheese, and avacado slices)but also a choice of bagel, toast, or biscuit on the side. I have had other good experiences at this location for lunch/dinner with their burgers, fries, and shakes! read more

I've always been able to overlook the wait. But tonight, upon arrival, (1am - only one other couple seated) we waited almost 10 minutes to even be seated. After being seated with no menus, I had to get one of the waitress's attention as she proceeded to go outside and get our waitress out of her car. My order was simple and short, fries and a vanilla shake with no cherry. After yet another long wait, I received my cold fries and later, my mint with Oreo shake with not one, but two cherries. Went in for a "quick" breakfast this morning around 9am. Place was half full. As always, looked clean and nice, BUT ... I ordered 2 eggs, scrambled and bacon (a la carte) and my wife ordered a fried egg sandwich -- not a really big, complex order. The one main waitress took other orders, bussed tables, greeted new guests ... after 30 minutes NOT GETTING any explanation of food, we left $10 on the table to cover the yet unseen food and left! I use to love going to steak and shake but now I can't stand it. I wait at the drive thru sometimes for over 30 minutes . Then half the time they mess something up or forget something of mine. I don't know who runs that place but they need to fire everyone and restart over. This is the only steak and shake we have around us and it sucks that is has become so horrible. The last straw was yesterday night my boyfriend and I went to get some food and we went through the drive thru and we were forced to leave because they claimed they had nothing (ex.) No food they said no hamburgers no milk shakes no fries no chicken fingers. If you have nothing to make your customers why is your store open. I do not recommend eating here! It took 15 minutes just to get seated even though the restaurant was only half full. Most of the empty tables were dirty, including our table. Beware at drive thru, lady who took order, repeatedly got it wrong and was overcharged. Order bagel, egg, sausage sandwich with regular coke. She repeated back, egg, sausage biscuit, we said no, she said coffee, we said no regular coke, not the combo. She gave price $5. When got to window, we were given the egg, sausage biscuit combo. She took hash brown back, we said we didn't order it, upon checking bag, it was a biscuit sandwich. We returned for a bagel sandwich, when she brought it out to car (we had to pull away from window), she said I gave you a hash brown. I guess she realized her mistake, and instead of correcting money amount, she just gave us a hash brown. We normally don't eat there, so not familiar with prices, checked internet. Absolutely Wonderful! The three of us had an outstanding craving for something to treat ourselves and quickly found online the advertised "Happy Hour" half-priced Shakes & Drinks offered at our local Eastgate Steak 'n Shake. The regular size shake at $.2.99 for regular flavors, and $3.69 (approx.) for Specialty Shakes using MANY candy bar additions, mixes, as well as FLAVOR mixes, such as Chocolate & Banana and many other options. They offer two sizes - the regular being around the 16oz to 20oz (approx.) and also the smaller Junior size for unknown price. They offer a TON of candy bar mixes and you can view their menu online easily but be sure when IN the restaurant to pick up some real menus to have handy for your Kitchen Takeout Menu section I'm sure most have tucked away in a drawer somewhere! Candy bars such as Butterfinger, Snickers, M&Ms, and on and on, etc., ad infinitum! Now - between, I believe 2PM and 5PM, ALL drinks and shakes are 1/2 off prices. I walked out today with THREE delicious, whipped cream and cherry topped shakes as a take-out treat for the household. The portion is perfect, the iced crème fresh and great tasting, the crème and cherries also fresh and beautiful in appearance. They made sure as a take-out item to include Straws along with Long Spoons for those of us who like thick or extra thick Shakes. It also gives you a little time to get it home without it turning to water! Napkins were even thrown in with a drink carrier and you didn't have to request them to get them.....like so many places are doing these days which many do not know or do not think of in a 'fast food' situation. They consider it will be included out of common sense necessity and as much I like the 'waste not want not" side of throwing in utensils, condiments, etc., which one might not use - I would prefer to ask they NOT be provided than to expect them and not receive them when you are SO sure an order of French Fries will have Ketchup along with them and yet you are travelling and sure enough, your passenger announces - "Hey, No napkins, no ketchup, NOTHING!". Got the Shakes home, hey were still frozen enough to eat with a spoon. AND the best part? THE PRICE!! I walked out with 3 great sized chocolate shakes and a Butterfinger Shake (with a healthy portion of Butterfinger dusting across the top of the whipped crème)...a beautiful and tasty concoction to be sure! Out the door for less than $5 for all three combined with the daily "Happy Hour Special". I was also tempted by a great combo offered for $5.99 for a Double STEAK Burger (WITH CHEESE - again unlike many burger joints unless you want to pay Extra for it)...along with some French Fries, a side of your choice and a Shake or other Soda Beverage! Just cannot beat it for flavor, freshness and the portions being JUST right so as not to pig out nor so small you finish ending up hungry for more, unsatisfied. Nope, you finish with a happy smile and a few buck left in your pocket for a tip if you eat in, or something else you might want to do with your savings. Also - don't forget to grab some Candy or especially some Bubble Gum, priced at 2 for $1 or $0.69 for one pack. Always nice to have some gum or hard candy ready in your glover compartment or middle arm rest. And at a price which competes with any local Grocery Store! Why pay more just because you are at a restaurant? Great service from the employees as well. They ask for your first name so when your order is ready they can call out to you like a human being and not a NUMBER!! Order for Joey, order is confirmed, a smile proffered and ON YOUR WAY! Enjoy a real burger and not just a thing piece of meat on a flat or flabby bun! Get quality, quantity and special pricing all at your local Steak 'n Shake! (I know I sound like a commercial - and I'm aware I've written a novella - it's a gift and a curse...I sure hope it was a gift in this case and you got all the information you could want from a REAL customer who just had a heaping helping this day! What really bothered me was standing there for at least 10 minutes and having multiple employees look at you but not acknowledge you at all. We left because of this ... This is probably the worst of the worst of the Steak N Shakes in Cincinnati. If it's not, I can't imagine how it could be any more terrible. Service is horrible. 1. You'll wait forever before anyone seats you. 2. Once you are seated, you'll be ignored by the servers until they just can't ignore you anymore. 3. Food takes at least 20 to 40 mins before it is served and then it'll be cold. 4. There will be something missing or incorrect. 5. You will be ignored again by your server. 6. No one will be in any hurry to cash you out. It took 1 1/2 hours to get dinner, when I tried to pay no one seemed to want to take my money. After 15 mins, I left. I wasn't going to give that place another second of my time. I actually quit coming here a long time ago, but my grand daughter loves Steak N Shake. My advice, if you really want Steak N Shake drive to Milford. They have their flaws but nothing like Eastgate. 5 Guys is just across the way and hell, if your slumming anyway, Golden Corral is just across the street. read more

This place has some real leadership issues. After 1 hr 20 min waiting for our food & asking for a manager, I find out I was about 5th in line to talk to the manager. No one had their food. I finally speak to the manager whose response after saying I had been waiting for my food for over an hour, was "well I have 90 burgers on the grill". I inquired as to why the drive thru had not been closed since there was a full restaurant with no food in front of them. She said that corporate would fire her. She then disappeared and didn't come out to speak with anyone else. We found out she was the GM! Our food came 10 min later and was incorrect and ice cold. An hour and 40 min after placing our order we were starving with ice cold food. We were among many other tables who got up and left. Unbelievable. We are still hungry. :(. The poor servers were left to continually apologize and handle the angry mobs while the kitchen served the drive thru and the GM hid in the back. read more

Slow service and a side of Food Poisoning My daughter and her boyfriend dined at this location on Sunday evening 3/9/14. She had the chili and became violently ill early Monday. The only thing the manager offered was a free dinner for my daughter and her boyfriend on their next visit. And a wrong number for the Sr. Manager to discuss this incident further. After caring for her, she nor I will be eating at the Clepper Lane Steak 'n Shake ever again. read more
