It is my birthday and I wanted a low-key, no-fuss, cheap, fast meal with my family so I picked this place for lunch. What followed was the most bizarre dining experience I've ever had. We waited 10 minutes to be seated. In a half empty dining room and you could tell the waiters were in the weeds. The manager on duty looked like she had a major incident with a milkshake on the front of her shirt. Our waiter gave us menus promptly but he looked like he was ready to cry. After we placed our food orders we got drinks, with the exception of my stepmom who ordered a vanilla milkshake. After 30 minutes she got her shake, but the waiter had no idea what flavor it was other than to say 'she said it was vanilla'. It wasn't. It was butterscotch or caramel. He never came back to fix it. The ladies behind us called the manager over to complain. They had only ordered chili and were still waiting. I evesdropped their convo, and the manager didn't offer any apologies but rather told them to call corporate. Seriously? World's shittiest manager. We looked around and noticed we weren't the only ones waiting for food. No one in the entire place had food. No one looked happy or fed. One table hadn't gotten drinks in 30 minutes. Our server blamed his manager saying she kept seating even though they were struggling, and never jumped in to help. That's a fair statement, because we didn't see her rushing food, or drinks, or jumping on grill. This girl had given up and was just standing in the front. We walked out without ever getting our food after almost an hour and a half. I'm proud to say we led the charge because at least 4 families left at the same time we did. On our way out we advised people waiting for a table about our experience and two others left as well. Steak n shake is sit-down diner at fast food prices. Well, supposedly. We went to Don Halls Factory and had an amazing meal in less time we sat in that dirty run down place. Me and my family have never had worse service. We have never been treated so badly, it was almost funny. I felt awful for trying to save my folks some money on my birthday meal. I will never ever eat at Steak n Shake again. Ever. I rather like this Steak 'n Shake location. Over the years I've become something of a Steak 'n Shake connoisseur, and usually take something of a critical eye whenever I visit a new location on my travels. There's just something about greasy 50's era food that I really like. Nostalgia for a time gone by that I've never actually been alive to see? Perhaps. But this location really is just average in all regards. Service was decent, our waitress was nice, the food got to us quickly, the milkshake was nice and thick, and the food itself was a little greasy, but delicious and filling. If you want a quick place to grab some good cheap food while out with some friends or family, stop on by this location. If you're wanting an experience, and want food that you'll be pining for for weeks and whittling away at leftovers, you're better off going somewhere else. read more

The clock struck, 8. Couldn't tell if it was am or pm, all I knew is that I needed some food immediately, the hallucinations were starting to kick in and I needed to find shelter quick. As I approached this establishment, I was welcomed by the marvelous atmosphere and overall hospitality this restaurant had to offer. I was greeted by the most beautiful fast food employee I have ever had the pleasure to lay my eyes on. I was so infatuated by her pure form and near perfect vessel, I had almost forgotten about my hunger. She glanced at me while I was aimlessly starring past her; into her soul. She asked me for my order and I told her to give me whatever she recommended. She provided the chefs personally prepared dish, the chicken tenders. As basked I the glory of the elegant chicken fingers, I couldn't help but ponder on the one who ever so gifted me with the opportunity to try them. I was beyond impressed by the sheer beauty of the tenders, and the waitress. She took my heart and my money, all in one foul swoop. My burden is forever owed. read more

Drive through is always slow and customer service is terrible. Usually get someone at drive through who is not courteous and doesn't bother you greet you, repeat your order back or even take it down correctly. Was just there and the girl screwed up the order of the person of in front of me and then screwed up mine too. Go to one of the other locations in Fort Wayne. I have eaten at Steak and Shake nationwide. I have never seen one so dirty with food everywhere on the grill floor, make up table etc. I ordered 6 triples to go with catsup, mustard, and mayo waited 20+ minutes was given 5, waited for the 6th then had to ask for mayo because there was none on the sandwiches. We got to our motel and found that these sandwiches? Were overcooked, barely any condiments at all. We ate two and threw the other four away. When I lived in Fort Wayne I used to eat here all the time it was pretty good. There's no way we will ever get anything from here again. Even our dog would not eat it. Well, this is an interesting event. One of the employee's wanted to go home (maybe had to stay over) saying things loudly such as: "I don't give a sh&^%t", throwing around plates, rolling eyes, etc..... so much so, it was apparent to the patrons and all we could do was watch in amazement at someone who needs to clock out, and never return. This incident happened on Sunday, Aug 5, 2018 at about 7:30 p.m. On the positive side, this location tends to do their fries right. It's a good thing the cooks do not touch the rest of the place... everywhere you look this place is as filthy as it gets... the seats, tables, walls, etc, etc... filthy! and it does smell like urine, they use the same dirty rag to clean tables, seats and booth benches... no sanitizing element used, just a nasty dirty rag. The waitress' long dirty nails touched the food as she carried the plates and her perfume was overwhelming to the senses. How difficult is it to run a tight clean ship!... it would benefit them and it would make the clients experience so much better. My Husband and I went here on April 26th.Now I have to say we havent been here for awhile and he wanted a burger from here . We went inside and HOLY COW!! CLEAN your dang floors for crying out loud!!! Napkins , french fries, pieces of burger, chili , toothpicks AND my biggest peeve of cleanliness wipe the freaking table dry when you wipe it with that nasty (supposed germ killing water ) rag !!! The drinks took 25 minutes for a milkshake!! tsk tsk...The burger I ordered ( the jalapeno crunch) w good BUT the cheese ws NOT melted at all. Husbands triple burger , same thing cold cheese!! Talk about slow, bad service and FILTHY! My wife and I took our Daughter and Granddaughters for Sunday lunch. Don't ask for a table for 5, odd numbers just confuse them. Got a booth/table in the corner, had to be cleaned, wiped it down, never dried the tabletop. Walls are stained from food, floors are filthy. Drinks come, Granddaughter #1's Coke glass was not washed, my Sprite was water. Tried to flag down the waitress, she obviously IGNORED me. This experience is beyond imagination. We love eating at Steak N Shake a couple of times a week. Many times we get our own place setting and menu. No big deal. Not many people eating and we were the first in line and hardly any clean tables. What they called the manager came to escort us to a table and after donating 6 hours of my time on my feet to the Fort Wayne Children Zoo I was tired and prefer a booth that was more then parcel cleaned. Manager rudely said we would have to go back and wait. We did so...He finished clean up and never came back for us. I helped myself to place setting and menu and went to the booth. Now the couple behind us did the same. (Mind you they got waited on first.) 10 minutes waiting for waitress (no water) 10 minutes for Order. 5 Minutes for water. food time was well past 25 minutes. Eating my burger I watched a waiter behind the drink counter and this person sneezed over the dishes. He grabbed his mouth/nose holding whatever came out slowly walking around. Took him 25 seconds to find a tissue. Ok he went straight back to work. Did he wash his hands? Nope. How do I know. He never left my sight. Now he continues to fill cups up and placed on tables. OMG !!! Now 1/2 way through my burger I looked down at my plate. Yellow stuff all over 3/4 of the rim. I touched it. It was completely dried and it was mustard. Humm I don't have mustard on my sandwich and as usual I don't even have mustard on my table. (Never walk in and find ketchup in the bottles) this is dried hard mustard, I am eating off a dirty used plate. Waitress dispatched the manager to our table. You got it, the same one that supposedly was getting our table ready. I showed him and guess what he offered to get me. A desert ! I can show you a picture of my plate, I only ate a few fries and he wants to get me a desert. I looked up at him and I said, this is discussing please bring me a clean plate of fries. Husband done eating so I sent him to Walmart while I wait for fries and to eat them. Antsy in my pants its been 30 minutes, guess who came back from Walmart. I was so angry at this point. I've officially had it with the Steak n Shake's in Fort Wayne. They all have incredibly awful service. I've waited in the drive thru for over 10 min before and even if you're able to get a seat inside, the service is ridiculously slow and unappealing. I don't know what's up with this location. Less than a month ago I dined inside and the meal was fresh, hot and very good. Service was good. Today I went through the drive through with a discount coupon. Waited about 15 minutes which seemed a little long as I was the only car there. The woman at the window didn't know how to use the coupon but that was ok, the manager comped part of the bill to make it work out. However her uniform was filthy with food splatter which wasn't pleasant to witness. She handed me my bag and walked away. Had to sit and wait for her to notice me..."um, I need my drink". Got back to work to chow down...fries were brown and hard and the burger bun was old and dried out and literally fell apart as I was eating. To top it all off I received a diet soda instead of what I ordered. I've learned from McDonald's that I taste the drink before I pull fully away. Guess I'll have to check my food here also. Stopped here for dinner at 5:30P on a Saturday night. The place was mobbed but have to give them a lot of credit. I was seated very quickly and as I watched people just kept getting seated no matter how full it looked. I was waited on promptly and the food came out much faster than I thought it would and was tasty. We waited 10 minutes at the drive thru without so much as a greeting or heads up on the wait time. This isn't the first time we have had an extraordinarily long wait at this location. This time, we left disappointed and went to another establishment. We were seated at this steak n shake and no one ever came to our table to take our order. We sat there for 13 minutes while all the staff continued to walk by our table and act like we weren't there. Most of the restaurant was empty and people that came in after us were getting helped before us. We finally just walked out and no one even paid attention. Just ate at the Coldwater Steak 'n Shake in Fort Wayne, IN and had the worst service! Our server did not seem to have a clue what she was doing & it took us at least 20 minutes to get our food & there were only 2 other tables of people there. So no, they was not busy! Once we got our food a sandwich was wrong, so we sent it back to still get it wrong. It was a regular normal garlic burger, nothing special about it. Told her one more and on the third time of bringing it back, it was finally correct. When we went to pay we asked to speak with a manager. While speaking to the manager she was rude to us, telling us it was our fault the sandwich was incorrect and after the first time we should've asked for a manager... then proceeded to ask, "well they finally got it correct didn't they?!"
