Literally watched a worker get a whole attitude with a lady that wanted napkins for her drink. Her shake did not have a lid and practically exploded all over her car, and the worker threatened to hop over the counter at her. Declining location. This has been our family's favorite local steak and shake location in Fort Wayne. Over the past couple of years the service, cleanliness, and the food has gotten to the point where we will not be returning. On this particular visit, we waited for over 30 minutes for our lukewarm food and fries with burnt specs of some in which I hope is fry pieces. We also made the mistake of looking under the table across from us it's obvious it hasn't been cleaned in a while. Oh and we had to ask 3 times for honey mustard and cheese sauce. This place had the WORST customer service I've EVER seen in my life!!! My son and I came in and had to be handed a menu by another patron who was there that was friends with the staff I'm assuming. Then the waitress didn't even come for another 10 minutes to take our order. We ordered 2 shakes and 2 burger meals. 15 minutes later she brought our burgers and NO SHAKES!!! I had to flag down another waitress to ask about our shakes and told her it's been 25 minutes since we ordered em. She tells me they have to make em themselves. Another classic American burger joint that I like. Today, I decided to dine in (rather than drive through) and try something other than the classic burger --the taco salad: beef, lettuce, tomato, onion, cheese, ranch dressing and tortilla strips with a side of jalapenos. My sister had the same minus the jalapenos. We had to request more beef due to the small (pre-measured) portion served on the salad otherwise it was all right. My friend tried the turkey club with cole slaw --they said it was ok but the cookie dough shake was worth it. Our waitress was very nice and prompt with our orders. This was hands down the WORST experience at a Steak & Shake anyones ever had. The server greeted us by yelling "There are no clean tables!" He then walked us to a table, cleared the dishes, and wiped the crumbs and milkshake residue off the table with his arm. 10 minutes after being sat at the filthy table he asked us for our order before providing menus. He grabbed menus and 5 minutes later yelled from behind the server station that food would take 30 minutes (it took 5, thanks kitchen) When the food arrived I asked for a fork for my chili spaghetti and he rolled his eyes and walked away. Staff was picking fights with tables and each other. The manager had a hole in his shoe and yet it was the server that slipped and fell. It got so chaotic for a minute that tables were making eye contact and sticking their head in their plates to avoid being problematic. So. Much. Yelling. In no universe was I ever getting my milkshake. The cook dropped his spatula and picked it right back up and went to town I feel like I generously overtipped, but I threw cash on the table and ran. Thank God, because the cash out line was basically out the door. Yet somehow they seemed to be less than half full... I would like to forget this happened... I hope I don't get food poisoning. The pancakes here are divine. They are fluffy, tasty, and just the right size. My mother told me that long ago they were by far the best. She was clearly on point with her assessment. I'm almost of a mind to say they are at par or better than some of the restaurants that serve pancakes as a staple menu item. I highly recommend them. I work at a restaurant, so I am trying to be as considerate and understanding as possible, but I do believe the service here needs work, especially the drive thru. Hit or miss. I prefer dining in than their drive thrus, even though both take a long time. The drive thru takes I would say at least 20 min, even when there isn't many people dining in or at the drive thru, so don't expect to get the food fast. There have been multiple times in the drive thru where I simply ordered a burger with no onions, and they repeat the order perfectly fine and we would both agree I want everything else on it but no onions, but then I receive literally a bun and patty, nothing else on it. No lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, sauce, etc. Even the receipt was correct, but order wasn't. Multiple times this has happened and it's always the same thing: just bread and patty. I did go back once inside to exchange it and they were nice about it and brought me out a new one still ignoring the no onion part and gave me fries as well, but honestly the fries were cold, flimsy, and flavorless... I do appreciate the effort. I know it sounds silly to continue to ask for no onions, but I feel if they can't provide correct service for something as simple as this, what else could they mess up on... I highly recommend just checking your burger and all of that before going all the way back home and being disappointed. I do understand it can be busy there so I try to be patient with them, but sometimes it's not even busy... I do hope they work on their drive thru service. They're not mean, but they just get my order wrong. It's not only in Fort Wayne, I tried in Muncie as well and the exact thing happened. It keeps disappointing me how the service is like this here and there. It gives a bad reputation for this restaurant that has potential. I don't really have much expectations for this restaurant anymore. Sometimes inside, I just feel like hygiene isn't good either. I think it's a convenient cheap place to eat, but I paid $6 today for old fries with the cajun seasoning, and a burger with just the bun and patty again at the drive thru. The fact that the service repeats my order and confirms it correctly but keeps giving me this is annoying now. The food can be decent, and I've also received friendly waitresses in the past. Sorry to say, quite a disappointment once again. The food and service is going down hill. 1 out of 5 Visits were good within the last 2 months. That's why 1 star. I was there with 3 others. Our burgers were over cooked. I joked that it was beef Jerky.. it was chewy and dry. None of the staff smiled. It was slow to get seated and waited on. There was a conflict with a server taking another's table in the dining room. I feel like there might have been a more professional place to address that. They seemed properly staffed for the amount of volume (about 8pm) so lack of hospitality and quality food was clearly unacceptable. Keep those standards high! My husband and I enjoy going to Steak and Shake for burgers and milkshakes. However, this experience wasn't the greatest. My husband ordered a burger with fries and a side of chili. His chili was forgotten about until he asked for it again. Our milkshakes came out fairly melted. Our fries were limp and almost had the appearance of being wet. Now I was highly disappointed in the fries. I usually thoroughly enjoy Steak and Shake crispy fries. Today they weren't crispy at all! I'm not sure if they were just trying to get them out quick but I sure hope the next time we visit they are back to their usual crisp fries and thick milkshakes. read more

Always extremely dirty, floors never mopped and piles of trash all over the floor because they are too lazy to pick it up. Wait staff is slow and very unenthusiastic would be a great way to put it. Last time I went was 10/22/17 at about midnight, and they basically refused to serve us. We and another group were told we could be seated but if we wanted actual service we would have to wait a long time because this particular waitress refused to fill in. For a 24 hour restaurant they must be too busy to clean. Not only were the floors dirty but I could see into the kitchen and underneath the fryers there were leftover fries and napkins. I like Steak 'n Shake. It's top of the line fast food. Best breakfast sandwiches although it had a soggy biscuit which I hate but the sandwich was great otherwise. Great burgers although the garlic one is a bit too much garlic & bread.. and a shake I ordered had ice chunks in it (or hard ice cream chunks?).
