I didn't expect much but they really just did a horrible job. McDonald's was absolutely packed so we came here. The high schoolers working were screaming at each other and we could hear it 3 cars back with our windows up. They had no cheese. They didn't give the sauce with the tenders and my burger was halfway off the bun with ketchup and mustard all over the outside. The coke tasted like feet and I have no idea what you could even do to make it taste like that, but I never want it to happen again. I haven't had many good experiences at Steak 'n Shake but this one takes the gold metal for the absolute worst. I would wait until another town even if you're starving. Wait is toooo long. They waiting staff stands and watches guests stand there waiting to be seated. They only have 1 night server and for an area close to a college campus you think they could handle more than 4 tables at a time but clearly not. Staff needs to do a better job of getting people seated. It's not that hard to sit people so they can relax while looking what to order. Me and my friends also all finished our meal and was clearly visible we were ready for our checks but we had to wait another 35 minutes just for us to ask our server Jèsūs for the check. Don't go to this Steak 'n Shake. They can't read or hear obviously, and hang up on you when you call to complain that they put something in your breakfast you're allergic to (not sure if this is the hearing problem i spoke of or not, or just lack of caring) They actually got the entire sandwich wrong *hints why I order certain things that don't have what I'm allergic to in it* Would rather drive a few miles down the street to another one where you will surely get your order correct and not die if you don't pay attention. Nothing more weirder than walking and having most the staff just stare at you while you wait 20 minutes to be seated. Our server Jordan was great but the other wait staff needs some improvements made. Food was ok per usual. Yelp keeps bringing up SNS for me to review, no matter how many times I click it away. Fine. I'll do it. You're awfully bossy. Anyway, I love Steak n' shake. It's like religion to me. I'm not in any way kidding when I say that when I bought my house, one of the exciting perks was that there was a SNS right across the street!!! Loves it! My mom loved SNS too, so it is a family tradition. We used to go after doctor visits when I was a kid, and it was a big deal for me to order my own stuff. I can remember getting a strawberry shake with the cherry in the bottom-still the same today (but I rarely let myself get one). I LOVE the fries. I seriously love everything. I love the burgers. I love the grilled cheese. I love the chili. I can honestly say I've never had chicken there-I am all about a delicious burger.I stick to familiar grease. In fact, if you are feeling indulgent, I recommend the Frisco melt. It's kinda messy, but worth it. Seriously, even my nieces request to go there (7&3). I've been coming to this location for about 6 yrs now. Today I did notice it's not as clean as it use to be. Young waitresses who have time to lean have time to clean. Just saying. Ann was our waitress and we received excellent service as always. I noticed a family who came in right after us and still didn't have drinks when we had food. Ann pointed it out to someone and the family had drinks quickly after. I want to continue to eat here every week but they really need to clean things up for that to happen. If I could give this place less than one star, I would. I came in to a messy restaurant (every table was dirty) and am told that I will be sat once my server, Amber, is done smoking a cigarette. Once we are sat, my friend and I try to help bus some of the tables because it is disgusting. We then get yelled at by Amber so we stop. Amber cussed several tables out and made an uncomfortable atmosphere. It took us 15 minutes to get cashed out. All the while, there were only 4 sat tables in the restaurant. the staff at this location is terrible at customer service. First you have to wait for 10 minutes before they even acknowledge you are even there to be seated then 20 minutes later I had to ask someone to wait on us, our waitress was horrible and another table was irritated with her never coming back to check on them or get them drinks she got mad cussed at them and left. Our order had been sitting in the window I had to go up and ask the manager to get us out food considering the waitress had walked out he did but never apologize or anything and needless to say we were never checked on by the manager or any other waitress there never got refills another table that she had even asked other waitress for drinks and no one helped them. we will never go there again!!! read more

It's funny how they have to make the burgers to order but when you receive the food it's cold and WRONG 95% of the time. there is a manager (white lady in late 50s or early 60s with glasses and gray hair) there with a very bad attitude every time I visit this location (i live 3 mins away) . Best Steak and Shake I have ever been to. John greeted us promptly and had us seated immediately. He actively moved us to a booth with more table space when we ordered a few dishes that could have overwhelmed our current table. Kudos to the kitchen! The food came in record time! Nothing was missed. It was a great experience overall. John refilled drinks without having to ask. He even remembered not to add ice as requested. A simple drive-thru order: Egg and Cheese biscuit. Service was slow, people not friendly, and the worst part is they left off the cheese! If you ever try to come here past 10 pm, you'll definitely have a minimum drive thru wait of 20 minutes...just to get to where you can order. I gave this location 3 chances in one day and all 3 times they disappointed me. First I went to the drive thru to get dinner and 2 milkshakes. I was told it would be a 15-20 minute wait bc they were short staffed. I drove away without food. I decided later in the evening I still wanted my milkshakes, so I go back. Drive thru wait is still 15 minutes so I go inside thinking 2 milkshakes won't take that long if I go in. Then I get inside, hand them my boy scout tag to $1 off one of my milkshakes and the cashier immediately tells me out is a one time use before I say anything about it, so I politely tell her that it actually isn't a one time use bc the back says "1 per tranaction." (And I have more than one of these tags and hasn't used this one yet anyway.) She then tries to tell me that means one time use. Just stopped by and ordered food for the family after working a 13hr day. Ordered 3 meals and as I was pulling away from the window I had my fiance check the bag. She noticed we didn't get our fries. So I turned around and parked. I took the receipt the kid gave me and went in. Waited a few and finally was helped. Told lady I didn't get my fries and gave her my receipt. She took the receipt and went to the kitchen area and then came back and asked if I could get the receipt in the bag....so I go get that and give it to her. She takes that back to the kitchen area and then after a few minutes the Manger came to the counter and asked me " You didn't get your fries?" in a surprised manor as if I was lying. I explained to her what I ordered and that no I didn't receive them. She ask me if I could go back outside and get my bag which at this point I'm getting upset and I asked her if she would like to go with me out to my car and check for herself. She laughs as if I were joking and tells me no that's ok and looks back into the kitchen area and ask the brunette girl again..."You put the fries in there?". The girl says yes she did. So I'm pissed now and go outside and bring in the bag. The manager looks through the bag and ask the brunette if she put the fries on top...and of course the girl says yes. I tell the manager "What isn't at the bottom of the bag? Loose fries....which are always at the bottom of any bag you get from fast food restaurants if you get fries." And the other lady at the counter is just shaking her head yes and the manager walks back to the kitchen area without saying anything to me. The other lady that was up there said I was absolutely correct. A few more minutes go by and a different female comes up to the counter with a bag of fries. The manager never came back nor told me sorry or anything. I will never come to this steak and shake ever again nor ever recommend anyone I know or come in contact with to ever go here. read more

Tonight was the second time that I went to steak 'n shake on east street & they messed up my order for the second time and they made me wait for the longest time to get my order and get my shakes. The first time was when I went through drive-thru & I waited for about 10-15 mins for them to take my order then after that another 7 mins to get my change back from the cashier. Soon after that she pulled me to wait for my food. By the time I got my food it was cold! They brought me the wrong shake and messed up my burgers too! I let it go because I know how hard it can be to be super busy I work at a restaurant so I know how it feels. But tonight was just unacceptable I waited for a while to get my shake and in the end they gave me the wrong one I asked a lady in a pink shirt if I could get it replaced she said yes, but I never got it so I waited at least 5-10 mins and I still never got my shake. So in the end I just told the lady at front if she could refund my shake instead. I was not going to pay for something that I did not order or get replaced and wait a long time. read more
