Very slow in service! We have been waiting for 25 mins now to get our food. Still don't have it. Sunday morning and you would think they would have more people working. There is two servers and one cook. Only about 15 people here. Took 20 mins to place order. People are leaving that walk in do to not being recognised they are waiting to be seated. read more

Absolutely TERRIBLE service!!!! Incredibly slow kitchen and wait staff. Overall, they appear to lack any training. The staff doesn't seem to care or know what they are supposed to be doing. I overheard an employee complain about how dirty the floor was and that there was garbage everywhere. This is not what a diner finishing her food wants to hear! One couple left after waiting over 20 minutes without food or drink. They were smart, they didn't miss out on good food! This was my first and last experience at Steak and Shake! I grew old on Steak and Shake burgers but this place needs to be closed. Four of us arrived at noon Wed. and placed our orders, I ordered Coke zero off the menu and five minutes later the waitress came back saying they were out of coke zero. When our burgers arrived the waitress informed us they were out of tomatoes for the sandwiches. One bite into my double bacon cheeseburger and yuk, the bacon tasted like it was left over from last weeks breakfast. Not a good experience at all, I will continue to eat at Steak and Shake but just no where near Joliet! read more

Stood in line for 5mins. Wasn't even never asked we will be with you in a moment. So rude. Will never go back.

When we first arrived, we had to wait a while to get seated, even though employees saw us. They obviously had no real sense of urgency about seating us. When we did sit down we were told that they were out of bacon and guacamole. Being out of bacon basically eliminates half The menu items. The food was good but the shakes took forever. My wife and I were 1 of only 4 tables in the restaurant at the time as well so I'm not sure what the problem was. Our server was very nice. When we went to pay, it took another 6 or 7 minutes as nobody seemed to care. We had to watch the manager argue with another customer about a coupon, and then the manager complained to us about the customer when they left. Pretty unprofessional, especially considering I believe he was the GM. Store was unclean, employees seemed unclean. I really like steak and shake and it's a shame the location closest to my home is such a disaster. Bummer. read more

Terrible, screwed all three of the items I ordered up. I guess they don't know what plain means. Told her twice and she still messed up the order. Chilli dog plain, 2 garlic sliders, plain and a chocolate shake. The hot dog and sliders cam out with everything on them. The waitress's response was " that's the way they come".... when she brought out the correct items they were ice cold. ZERO stars. I will never take my family here again. Not only did they not bring out a cup of chili that I ordered (I finally had to remind them) but my drink had a fruit fly IN the ice cube. This is the worst Steak 'n Shake I have ever been to in my 23 years of existence. The servers were all standing, eating, texting, and completely ignoring us. We sat for 10 minutes before even being greeted. All of our food was cold because it sat in the window while they continued eating and talking with a customer they were clearly familiar with. The bathrooms were disgusting, complete with a dirty diaper and distinct smell of filth. I will never return. read more

We go to this Steak 'n Shake ALOT! Almost all the employees know us. People are complaining about the size of the food-what do you expect to get for 3.99 or 4.99?!?! Prices are SOOO cheap! I feel bad for the waitresses because I've seen numerous of times where people leave nothing or next to nothing for a tip, I'm guessing because the checks are so cheap. It can't be the service because I have never had anything less than superior service there. Yes, it's busy. That is because the cheap prices. The waitresses & waiters are definitely timely. I'm a fan of Steak & Shake, raised near where it was founded. Wish this location was better. yesterday long wait at drive-thru, only 3 cars ahead. Cashier told us short help and that he had to make the milk shakes. My wife's chili 3 ways came without usual meat sauce topping and was undercooked. Burgers remained consistant though. read more

Three out of the last three take out orders have had errors discovered after arriving at our destination. On each of these occasions I have given them the opportunity to correct the issues. I called them on the first occasion and was told to come in and they would replace my order. The person took my name so that I could get my order replaced. Low and behold my name was in fact not recorded, thus when I went back my meal was NOT replaced. On the second occurrence, I was given their name. I went back and this person was not in. Yesterday, I decided to give them a third opportunity. Guess what, another screw up. This time several items were missing after being paid for. I attempted to phone the restaurant all afternoon. The phone rang off the hook and was never answered. In my book, three strikes and you're out! There are too many other good food establishments in Joliet to visit than to continue wasting my time with this Steak and shake! read more

My family and I sincerely are not hard to please. The service had very little to do with the poor waitress who spilled a whole tray of drinks, being it was only her second day. The waitress who cleaned up the mess left lemons on the floor for a very long period of time, someone could have been seriously hurt slipping on them. The women's restroom was beyond disgusting. It took a long time for the waitress to come back and take our order, I chalk it up to her recouping from spilling all the drinks, I get it. Now it's 20-30 minutes after we ordered and we are notified they are out of half of the food they need to complete our order. The coffee cup and saucer are dirty. 2 of us order something different just to get it done and move on with our day. Half the food we got was inedible, other half was cold except for the 2 of us that had to order something different. I felt really bad for the waitress. But I not anyone in my family will ever patronize this Steak 'n Shake again. If you're reading the reviews, I promise you the bad ones are the true ones. read more

I read a lot of reviews, but the Steak n Shake in Joliet, Il must be the best location. I went there for lunch, the service was great and the burger and fries were hot and we only waited 10 min. The waitress was very pleasant and asked us twice if we needed anything and if everything was okay. Even the manager stopped and asked if everything was good. I will stop at this restaurant the next time I have a taste for a burger. There also was someone at the register to take our money. I give this place an E for Excellant. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. Place wasn't that busy and yet I had to stand and wait for 10 minutes to be greeted, never was. Eventually I just sat at the bar and waited. Glad I did because the group of four behind me stood for about 15 minutes. Each server looked at me but didn't smile or say hi. Finally some one came up to take a payment from a guest that was standing just as long as I was waiting. And with out looking at me, or saying hi, or smiling, the server asked what I wanted. I placed my order. 10 minutes later I got my water because I got up and got it myself. When I asked for the water I was ignored by not one but two servers. They made me pay before I got my food because I was sitting at the bar. Mind you, I didn't want to sit at the bar but I had a long day at work and needed to sit while I waited to be greeted. I finally got my food, it was ok. 5 people came up to pay but the cashier wouldn't ring them up because their server never brought them the bill. 15 minutes later they finally got through paying. I know it's steak n shake so I shouldn't expect much but my experience was ridiculously. Everyone around me seemed to have the same experience. Shame! Managers should try training their staff on customer service and proper serving technique. read more

Worst service ever. I've been a waitress and worked in customer service so I like to give people the benefit of the doubt, but this was just terrible. First our waitress didn't write down our order and had to come back and ask us what our drink order was and when she brought them back, one of them was wrong. Then our food took forever to come out and the restaurant was not even busy. When our food was brought out, one plate was missing the side of fries and the waitress forgot to bring silverware for the taco salad that was ordered. The waitress brought out the side of fries five minutes later, and still no silverware. She brought out the silverware after another five minutes and she only brought out one and never gave our table any napkins. Because she barely stopped at our table, we had to use the one napkin the set of silverware was wrapped in for both of us. We then sat at the table with completely empty dishes for at least 15 minutes before she asked us if we wanted any refills. At this point, we just asked for the check so we could finally get out of there. read more

Horrible experience!!! I normally don't write reviews but I just couldn't help myself with this one. Went through the drive thru. Just left the location. Ordered a meal with a large fry and a large Coke. Was told that they were out of large cups, ok fine. Get to the window and the kid that hands me my food, tells me "sorry we are out of large fry cups but here's a med cup but I put in as much fries as a large holds". I took it and drove to the parking spot and looked in the bag. The cup wasn't even a full even for a medium fries. So I go in to talk to he manager and he was apologetic and all of a sudden some one runs up to me and says you are the guy with the large fries right? Tells me that "sorry the other fry was for a different order." Which wasn't true, I have a feeling that the employees are making a game out of it and seeing how many people they can do this to. Worst ever customer service that I have ever encountered especially since all companies are huge on customer service! Ordered 2 peppermint shakes in the Drive thru and received 2 melted shakes-- how could someone actually try to pass these off as fresh and just made? Husband parked the car and I went in with the shakes-stood there for 5 minutes and was not helped until I asked someone for the manager-3 minutes passed by as the manager finally walked out-- I showed her the now overly warm and melted shakes telling her that this is what I received from the drive thru--she had the nerve to think I would believe her response is that they serve shakes 3 ways-- melted, thick and extra thick-- since when?? And if this is the way they serve their shakes-why wasn't I asked what kind I really wanted? Total line of bs--and unacceptable from the manager who lacks common sense and lack of management while serving sub par food leaving her establishment-- I feel sorry for the few eating inside! I just demanded my money back and left-- the company and the sub par manager would get no more of my time- nor will I or any of my family and friends ever go back to a steak and shake! About time the heads of this company and open their eyes and look at the disgraceful business they have-- and for the burgers they serve-- disgusting!
