Go to any other Steak N Shake but this one. I ordered a mushroom swiss burger meal through the drive thru. It was the nastiest burger I have ever had. It was so bad it looked like they dragged it out of the trash. The entire burger was drowned in the liquid that they hold the mushrooms in. Soggy hardly describes how saturated the burger was. Just going by how it looked was sickening. It was so bad I couldn't even stomach to eat it at all. When a restaurant goes past a certain point, I'm done with them. So I called and explained how disappointed and disgusted I was with the food but I had no desire to go back, ever. Not to have them make a second attempt, no benefit of the doubt, none of that. I didn't even want to go back to get a refund. That they let it leave their line and gave it to a customer was far beyond any hope of repair. It's not that it broke my bank anyway. Money isn't the point. The point for me was that it was the most disgusting meal item I had ever gotten from a restaurant bar none. I came to realize that this entire area, the mall area, within a 1 mile radius, is just racked with the nastiest of restaurants. I don't know why but all the restaurants are very, very bad. If you travel to the next closest of Steak N Shake, Taco Bell, Burger King, maybe Checkers too. I never did like checkers, any of them. The ones by Walmart at Ridge and 19 are a bit better, so I'm not complaining of those. With the exception of Hardees. When Hardees first opened I was a little excited. I enjoy Hardees now and then. Was my favorite. But this one was knowingly putting out fried food when they had their filter go down and everything had a burnt oily taste of old grease. Dark brown and nasty. BUT, now that they switched from seed oils that they used to fry French fries & Onion rings in, or any other deep frying items to BEEF TALLOW oil I will never eat there again. People be aware that Beef Tallow oil contains 50%, yes 50% SATURATED FAT. EAT THAT FOR A YEAR AND YOU'RE AS GOOD AS DEAD FROM HEART FAILURE. Boy! Times have changed SteaknShake! A wait staff employee greeted us at the door and directed us to one of 3 kiosks to order for carry out or dine in. We were dining in, so after placing and paying for our order, we sat in a booth to await our order. Yes, we did add 15% tip for table service. We did not tip our usual 20% since we placed our own order and we will be getting our own refills on drinks. We got our own food order. Our name was called and Husband got our order on a tray. He got his own drink, and catsup for the fries. "I didn't know this had turned into a Wendy's," he said when he sat down with good and drink. Maybe we should get our tip back. Or the chef should get part of it. I just wanted water, but there was no place on the kiosk menu to add it. So I brought in my jug of water from home. The first time I went here I was enamored; the Beef Tallow Fries are delicious and the burgers were probably the tastiest I'd ever had - the meat was so buttery-tasting. I did not like ordering from a screen; I don't want robots to replace human beings' jobs. I went back again several times and the fries were always great but the burgers were never again so tasty - the patties were all thin and dried up. Dined in on 10/29/2022 for kids day and wow! What an experience. I am truly impressed by the level of attention to detail and customer service the team members here provided! Free balloons, free face painting for the kids, and a raffle! This was just an awesome touch to a place that already provides delicious burgers and shakes! I live in Holiday and will definitely make the drive to get this quality of service again. Someone at the door was there to greet and assist with any troubles at the kiosk and other team members checked on us multiple times to see if there was anything else they could do to make our visit more pleasant. Had to make a quick fast dinner run after a long day at work and too tired to cook. Family decided we'd try Steak 'n Shake here in Port Richey, bad choice. I wasn't too sure what the family wanted and the location only has the drive thru option, it took a minute to review the options. Employee on the speaker, "I ain't got all day, do you know what ya want." I must also disclose, no one else was in the car line. If it wasn't for a hungry family wanting food from here, I would have moved on. I placed an order for 2 Doublestack cheese burger meals, lettuce, tomato, no pickle! I wanted to replace and upgrade to a strawberry banana milkshake And a chocolate shake. I did forego ordering something for myself as i was to upset. I pulled up to the window and was greeted by the same friendly man, " You're supposed to have payment ready." I do have the app, and wanted to use it to pay for the rewards. The employee didn't want to wait on my app to load. I pulled out my credit card and paid $27 dollars for two double cheddar meal, deluxe chili, chocolate shake and a strawberry banana shake. I got home without a meal for myself, and discovered the fries undercooked, half filled. The burgers topped with two huge slices of pickles each and couldn't find the cheese, just a hint. Gone to horrible food and service now - uncivilized manager should not be working Manager literally threatened / stated that he would sl_t out thr__t because I repeated 5 times told him to back off and stop modifying our order on the menu screen. Today was probably the 8th time I have brought my grandmother here because it makes her happy to have a burger and milkshake. Reminds her of the good ol' days I guess. Today was the end of my patience, and we will be driving to the much more efficient, friendly, and clean location in Trinity by Target from now on despite it being much further. The female manager working late nights is always nasty, and she clearly has no idea how to staff people, or at least get them working efficiently. I say this because the floor is always sticky and brown in spots under and around the tables as well as the entrance, the ketchup/salt/etc. is always sticky, one night we waited over 45 minutes for a stupid basic burger and bowl of chili, and when you talk to that female manager about any of it - she puts on a snippy face and attitude as if you are crazy for expecting good service. Today I just gave up because we ordered a footlong chili dog and got a footlong piece of bread slobbered with chili juice. Basically I had hot-dog soup. Pointed out that the picture shows a footlong with the chili, etc. as a topping and not a mountain of slobber. Unsurprisingly, the manager just looked at us with a rude face (despite us being overly kind about the frustration as usual) and said "I'll be right back with a fork and knife." Right. Because that solves the problem of serving us something far from the picture, and us being dissatisfied. My poor sweet little Grandma explained that she wanted what was in the picture because she likes holding her hotdog. Manager did not care for what she had to say. Came back with a fork. No discount. Nothing. No genuine apology. I posted a picture of what we got versus what they advertise. Oh, and the fries are always cold. Must make them on big batches and let them sit there. I really can't think of a restaurant , of the dinner variety, that I have never felt my meal was NOT good, except Steak & Shake & Munches in St. Petersburg. One of the food network judges rated it as best overall burger. I can't quite go that far, but they are good & consistently the same. We all know we are creatures of habit & Steak & Shake is a good habit. Their fries, burgers, salads, chili, dogs, sammies....always the same, always a good value & always good. It gives you that fast food but not really fast to feel, my favorite part about this place in particular is the food is always been on point. Another thing about Steak 'n Shake is they're open 24 hours. I'm literally drivingat 5:30 AM in the morning drinking a milkshake and eating french fries. All the other fast food joints around town clothes except for Mcdonald and they don't serve shakes this late because they always clean their shake machine after hours. In conclusion, for a fast food place, this place is awesome. You can dine in at all hours as well which is pretty cool. Sometimes They get really packed around 2 o'clock in the morning because that's when all the bars are letting out, and this is one of the only places you can go to sit down to eat food at this hour. Got my burger and it was raw in the middle. Like how can you not cook a smash burger well done. It's not that hard. I took it back to get it done correctly.. this manager who says he been there for 3 years(which I don't see how he got hired in the first place, establishment must have been desperate) this guy proceeds to take raw meat with the only two spatulas he has.. smashes those burgers.. grabs more on top of the spatula, smashes those.. total of 10 raw burgers used by the same spatulas, didn't clean once and used the same contaminated spatula to pick up a burger that's been cooked and placed it down to serve a customer. This guy should be fired theee times over because he did it a few other times and I mentioned it to him.. then he continued to do the same thing again. If you wanna be sick . This is your place. I love this place... however every time I come here, it seems to be run by one person! Cameron seems to be running this joint alone. He greets, seats, serves, cleans and always with a smile on his face. Management seems to have a hard time here. They surely don't do much as I've seen them standing at the kitchen entrance gossiping. Tables needed to be cleared as well as people needing to be seated. Lack of leadership here. I've never had a problem with this location until today. Last time I ordered from here I paid for a ranch that they didn't put with my order. Therefore they owed me a ranch. I didn't think it a big deal at the time because I figured I could get it next time. I was there today to order and asked if I could receive the ranch that I was supposed to get last time. They continually told me that I needed to have called to document this from when it happened. We are talking about a $ .40 item that they couldn't just take my word for. I did get upset over this and they refused to serve me. The manager handled this poorly and in my opinion shouldn't be managing at all. Went through the drive through ordered food for my family was immediately shorted a large soda brought it to their attention and she said let me look at your order and the proceeded to say my bad and gave me the soda that I was shorted. I said is everything else there? She said yes. I was ordering for five people and there was a huge line behind me. My husband and I stopped at this Steak n Shake after playing some mini-golf at the Congo down the street. He didn't want to go there but I beggggged because I really wanted Steak n Shake. I was so disappointed! When we walked in I was shocked by how sticky the floor was. My flip flops were literally stuck to the floor and I had to peel them off the ground with each step. I don't think they've mopped in a really long time! I asked the waiter if I could get fries and onion rings, but they only gave me the onion rings. The staff has always been super friendly and gets orders as quickly as possible. The drive thru orders do get priority as I tried that once and was in and out very fast. The chili is very good. My family visited this Steak 'n Shake on 3/21 for a late lunch. We got a great happy hour deal of 1/2 off drinks and shakes. Our food was delicious, but the best part of the experience was the outstanding service we received from Cameron, our waiter. He was so friendly and just an absolute delight. His attitude was pure joyfulness. Earlier in this week, we visited Disney World, but ask my six-year-old what his favorite part of our spring break was and he will say it was meeting Cameron who was so funny and nice. Thank you for a great lunch experience! You do your job so well and it made a lasting impression on all of us. :) We will definitely come back next time we are in the area. read more
