We enjoy Steak 'n Shake and will dine at one when in the area. Some have table service. This one you hardly have contact with a person. The interior is bright and sunny with lots of windows. Booth seating. Soda machine, condiments and napkins are just past the order counter. Bus your own tables. A sign at the order counter tells you to order at the kiosk. There are three. From the amount of finger prints on here not sure these get wiped down. First burger we ordered from the 'meal deal' menu. Customize your order, pick your fries. Next should be pick you drink, but instead of the soda being included in the meal it was three ninety-nine! For a fountain soda? A water is two forty nine for a sixteen ounces. I just bought a liter of water at Stuckeys up the road for two bucks. What's up with that S'nS? Next burger we ordered from the burger menu and selected the 'make it a meal' option. This worked. So pro-tip, use the burger menu not the meal deal menu. Pay by credit card. You add a name to your order and when it's ready a staff member will bring it to the counter, yell out the name, and walk away. The burgers are tasty and the shoestring fries cooked to a crispy outside. Fountain sodas are coke products including Barques and Minutemaid. They also have sweet tea and unsweetened tea if you prefer. The drive thru was around the building both when we were walking in and when walking out so clearly a popular spot. Looks like this is the only Steak 'n Shake in Rolla. If you are headed toward St. Louis, there are several along the way. read more

The place was empty at lunch time? If this is the new model for Steak and Shake to have no service just like McDonalds, I'll choose another place to eat. The word limit can scarcely contain my thoughts about this place. Took 30-40 minutes for 5 cars to move through the drive- thru. Employee at window seemed to have been asking each car if our order was theirs. "Did YOU have the ..." I was thinking "well, not so far.." So we got our barely lukewarm fries and a sloppy, slimy, slippery mess of a Western BBQ Burger. Top bun was OLD, dry and joyless. Immediately cracked, broke apart and crumbled all over the car. Burger patties were so thin you can see LIGHT through them. I'm serious, just as thin as the measly 2 slices of limp "bacon". Generous glop of "BBQ sauce" was squirting and re-coagulating all over my clothes, straight THROUGH the napkins and onto the car seat and carpet and dash. The little crunchy worms were hard and nut-like, sticking together in lumps of lukewarm sauce, forming tumbleclods of hardly-edible mess. The slice of cheesefood was neither melted nor even warm. YUCK! The fries were stiff as little fat toothpicks and had the flavor of ricecakes. The bottom bun wasn't much, either. Corporate has ruined all steak n shakes with the self service kiosks. Went to get chili cheese fries today and walked into an empty establishment. A cook finally told me that you order on a kiosk. Fair enough, I don't mind change and don't mind not having to tip, I guess. I try to order chili cheese fries and it's not on the menu. Okay, let's order the large cheese fry, modify to add chili except that's not an option. Then I think, well I can order cheese fries and a cup of chili. A cup of chili costs more than a large cheese fry.. not happening. Since my chili cheese fries are obviously not an option anymore, I decide to get my normal Double Garlic Steakburger. I want to add Lettuce and Tomato, that's no problem. However pickles and onions are NOT allowed on that burger apparently. However it's allowed on any other burger. Their drive through has never gotten my order wrong or ever not been up to par. The DT is the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. To sum this up, if you're going to make us order our own food, at least give us all the options. read more

Visited on a Monday around 6:00pm for dinner. We were surprised to see the kiosks used to place our order but figured it out pretty quickly (I don't have the app for this restaurant). Haven't been to a Steak n Shake for decades. Probably won't ever again. I wanted a sit down dinner, but it's stand up kiosk order only here. The burgers look big and beautiful on the menu, however, when they handed me the paper bag with 2 double meat cheeseburgers in it, it felt from the light weight like there could only be one burger in the bag. Also, I paid $1.29 for grilled onions on one of my burgers. There were regular uncooked onions on it ok -- but I didn't see any grilled onions. I went and asked for my grilled onions and a guy came out and pointed to the 'grilled onions'. There were 3 or 4 grilled onions that were smaller than a small rubber band. Seriously, I had to look hard to see them. So, the burgers were quite small, but tasty. Now, I'm leaving to go to Buffalo Wild wings to get some food to fill the space left by this Steak n Skake. Absolutely love this Steak n' shake. The staff is wonderfully friendly and I have had two great visits while visiting Rolla. The burgers and just delicious, the bun is toasted slightly on the grill and the beef patty is grilled fresh and juicy. The veggies in the burger were amazing. Pickles, tomatoes, onions and lettuce were all fresh and delicious, ESPECIALLY the fact it only costs 3.99! Fries were thin and crispy and NOT soggy at all. Shakes are also delicious and made to order, nothing went wrong on my visit there. Overall cleanliness was great as well, tables were spotless and seats and under tables were clean. I loved the food at this location. It was hot and fresh. The waitress was very on top of things and friendly. Sadly In my opinion this location needs to get remodeled or have a deep cleaning. The floors are seriously gross, they need to mop more. Also they should clean the ketchup and mustard containers they were greasy and sticky. Lastly the lady who rang me up was a grouch. I grew up on Steak N Shake, when they still had car-hops. Always looked forward to going to SNS. I was disappointed in January when I found out they no longer had hot-fudge Sundays! Now I'm in a SNS in Rolla and Beyond disappointed!! No servers, limited menu, eating from a styrofoam box.....the nice thing about SNS was it was nicer than McDonalds, like a real restaurant. I live here in Rolla. I've frequented S 'n S all over the Midwest. This Steak 'n Shake disappoints me 75% of the time. Today, 9:15pm, drive through, I ordered double steak burger with cheese. Bun was dried out, which honestly throws the taste of a good steak burger off. I did not go back, just no time. I've never had bad food inside. Ate here last night while driving my grand-nieces to Springfield. It was super crowded with a bus load of teenagers and sponsors, however we were seated quickly and the service and food were fantastic. I have to give a shout out to our waitress, Anna. She was very attentive and checked on us often. When one of the girls spilled her shake, Anna was so kind, cleaned my grand-niece's skirt, then cleaned the seat where the shake had spilled.
