I haven't been to a SnS in years so I thought I'd revisit. It was a real culture shock! There's no more servers, just 2 guys cooking & a gal with a headset. You're forced to place your order on a kiosk. It asks how much tip you want to leave even before you see your food... my burger was very greasy. I also ordered large onion rings, it was a pretty small serving. You have to scan your print-out to get your drink at the self-serve fountain. I was surprised it allowed me to get a refill. The whole experience was not user friendly. Explain to me why anyone would be inclined to tip... Then you have to bus your own table! No one says Hello or Goodbye :-( read more

Cold, and I don't mean temperature, lost the ambiance that once made it so pleasant to go to. No waiters or waitresses anymore. Order as you enter on a machine. Wait for your food, wait some more. Steak 'n Shake food is great : however the cheap cardboard carryout and delivery drink holder is terrible : it tilts and will turnover and spill your items , if you put a large Coca Cola and a sundae in this container the cheap cardboard isn't stable enough because of the weight of Coca Cola and then both items get spilled and ruined : they need better drink carriers read more

First time at a Steak n Shake ever. Let me just say that you definitely get your money's worth- everything on the menu is so cheap. So, if you want some cheap fried food this is your spot. I can't really say much about the food because I'm a vegetarian, but the soup and fries were really good! Also when you're at cheap spots like this in The Villages don't be surprised when a verbal fight breaks out in the front over waiting to be seated. Had to give up on this place after getting very thin and tiny cold gray burgers and cold dry as a desert fries from young staff who didn't care. There's no point in paying for food you have to throw away. The food was good, but that's about where the positives end. The waitress seemed friendly enough, but wasn't overly attentive and seemed to be in a rush, even though it didn't appear to be that busy. We were seated in a booth near the shake making station, which doubles as the "break room" it seems. Waitresses were constantly congregated here, and we could easily overhear their conversations, which were most definitely not work related, nor anything I cared to hear about from strangers. I saw more than one waitress pull her phone out while on the floor. The food came slow, with no apology for the wait time. I had asked for cheese on my fries, which they did not come with. I was eventually given a cup of cheese sauce to use for dipping, halfway through eating my meal. Very Slow Service, Strange Happenings The wife and I stopped in at 4:30. We were quickly seated since they were not yet busy. Unfortunately that is where the service stopped. After waiting for nearly 10 minutes, a server cam to take our order. After another long wait, I saw an order that looked like ours arrive in the kitchen window. I looked around and could not see our server anywhere. Then I observed the strangest thing. Another server approached our food(still on the tray in the kitchen window) and began using a spoon to lift the top bun on each of our sandwiches. I am not sure what she was looking for, but after messing with our food she stepped away and left it. After a few more minutes our server arrived and delivered our food which was not very warm. This was an excellent trip to Steak 'n Shake! My boyfriend and I went inside to order to go, and the host was so friendly. I didn't catch her name, but she had blonde hair wrapped up in a bun. She was just excellent!! So personable and conversational. Nailed our order, and apologized for the wait, even though we were content with chatting. She helped a fellow employee troubleshoot a problem with a customer with patience and kindness. Great staff here and our food was delicious when we got home! read more

Stopped here on our was back home from Miami to Atlanta! Pretty good half way point! I ordered the chicken tenders and cinnamon cereal shake! The buffalo sauce for the chicken fingers was spicy and had a thickness that really adhered to the chicken. The Milkshake was smooth and crunchy with bits of cereal! I found the shake to be perfect amount of sweet. I had the fries with Cajun seasoning but also added the burger seasoning which was pretty awesome! Haven't been to a SS in years so I was by the Villages so we stopped. The food was slow to arrive. Neither one of us liked the food. The frys were cold and the sandwich look warm. The best thing about the meal was the ant in my water glass. The place is crazy noisey, with waitresses shouting over the idiots shouting in there phones. Gave this place one more shot as I liked the food where I previously lived. Ordered a single burger and specified my toppings. It is 12:30 in the afternoon and there was no line at the drive thru. I opened it immediately. The burger is stone cold, no way the meat could be cold that fast unless it's been sitting out. I asked for mustard. None in sight. The lettuce is a minuscule piece of wilted green. And it can't be from the heat of the burger. It all went into the trash. If you would like a milkshake that is authentic this is the place to go. However they are not cheap. We try to go between 2 and 4 PM when the milkshake is half price. We also do lunch there because their hamburgers are delicious the french fries are hot and are not salted which is perfect for people with high blood pressure. The service is incredibly slow. Slow. First and likely last visit. All I wanted was a chocolate malt to go...took 10 minutes to place the order then another 15 to get the shake. I wouldn't have minded as much, but the malt was lousy. This is one place that should close their doors. The wait staff is all over the place, we were checked on twice. Food was cold when it arrived and sent back. One chili ordered and delivered hot. My burger was delivered was my husband had finished his chili. By the time I was finished with my burger his finally came. No refills on drinks were offered. I was out with my girlfriend and our two friends and it was kinda busy because they were short a few servers. The food was excellent but there were two orders that weren't quite compete. The waitress was willing to fix this issue quickly and was quite helpful and very friendly. Overall yes I would recommend this place to others because of the friendly service and the fact that while they were short staffed it wasn't slow by any standards. I was told to come here by my parents who live in the Villages. They told me that it had great food, and boy were they right. We as a table got a little bit of everything and shared it. It was some of the best food I have ever had. The milkshakes were amazing, the hot dogs phenomenal, that burgers divine and the salads great.
