I went this past Friday at 11 am. The place was spotless clean,we were greeted immediately and enthusiastically,seated and the waiter appeared instantly. He also was welcoming and engaging. The food arrived quickly and was really good! Went here with 2 friends for dinner the other night. I was struggling to decide if I'm 2 or 3 stars here. 3 stars is a place that is good to me and I'd frequent. 2 stars had some real issues and I'm not sure I'll return. I think this is somewhere in between those two. I've never eaten in here, so it was confusing when we went in. There is a counter, with a person that does take out counter service, but there is also a hostess stand. There wasn't any one at the stand, and the counter person didn't really direct us, so took a few minutes to figure out what we needed to do. Once seated, our server came by quickly and got our drink order and brought them out and took our order for the meal. That was pretty much the last we saw of her, without flagging her down. It looked like there were only 2 working the floor, but we had to try to wave her down a few times for more dressing, our check, another drink, etc. 2 of us got Shepherd's Pie and the other got the Strawberry Salad. My friend said the salad was good. I was not a huge fan of the Shepherd's pie. I make shepherd's pie and this was lacking. Mine had less stuff in the bowl, compared to my friend (less meat) and it had not enough mashed potatoes on top but a mountain of melted cheese. Usually there's a nice crust of mashed potatoes and a sprinkling of cheese. I could barely taste the potatoes because the cheese was overpowering. Once we asked for the check, that took a bit. We put our cards out on the table and we waited at least 20 minutes for her to take them so we could leave. One of the other tables got up and paid up front, which we were close to doing ourselves. My Shepherd's Pie and diet soda was ~$22 before tip, which seemed steep given that the food was mediocre. I'm not in a hurry to go back. read more

When I walk into a bakery I want to look at the items in the case. Hostess was TOO helpful suggesting items! Finally decided on their supposedly "2 most popular" cake slices to go. Silly me thought they would cut it fresh! No, it was taken from a case already in plastic containers and immediately put into a bag to checkout. After we return home I realized why! The carrot cake was 3/4 of a slice at best. The banana cream cake is give a 3/10 and the carrot a 2/10. This was our first time to visit Too Jays. We had Philly roast beef sandwich and a hot ham and cheese sandwich with fries. Each was priced at $14.99. My wife said the ham and cheese was "ok" but my roast beef was terrible in its presentation and really didn't taste all that good. This meal was just ok. It took forever for our meals to come out. My wife immediately noticed that she got toast with her omelette rather than the bagel she had asked for. I noticed that I didn't get my coleslaw with my Club Sandwich. My wife started eating her omelette and commented that it had the wrong cheese and then realized it had no pastrami in it (she ordered a pastrami omelette). She asked the server if it was the pastrami omelette and the server just picked up her plate without even commenting. She came back a short time later to say "she's making another and it'll be quick". No apology. Food was ok, not great. Server was great with our beverage refills. I wonder why I waited 4 years before trying Toojays. Who doesn't like a good sandwich? We arrived at a hectic Brownwood at about 4:00 pm on a Monday. The restaurant was not especially busy. We were seated promptly and the server came to the table immediately. The wine and beer selection was small but decent and welcome. We ordered the Josh cabernet and Dogfish Head IPA. Prices are fair although the wine pour is a little skimpy. The menu is huge. If you can't find what you want, you aren't hungry. After mulling it over, we ordered sandwiches; hot pastrami, Ruben and turkey avocado. My father in law also ordered French onion soup. I spent an extra $1.50 for fries, but the sandwiches come with slaw and a pickle. Both are excellent. The sandwiches are big, but possibly not as big as they look in the pictures.two of us brought home half a sandwich. All were tasty, with the turkey avocado winning the prize for most inventive and delicious. BTW, there are multiple bread choices but the fresh rye is to die for. My only complaint about the venue is a lack of sound deadening materials. It was far from full, but noisy as a result. There are tvs on the wall as well as Muzak . They would not be missed (by me) if someone turned them off. We stopped at the bakery on the way out and I bought my wife a blueberry danish. It was huge and she only ate half at breakfast this morning. Prices are a bit steep, but maybe I just haven't gotten used to this hyper inflation yet. $9 for 6 ounces of wine. $6 for 12 ounces of craft beer in a can. Sandwiches ran $14-16 each. Onion soup was $7.39. We plan to return. There's a lot more on this menu I want to explore. read more

I ordered the Nova Latkes for lunch, I know it was an appetizer but wasn't expecting it to be so small. The 3 latkes were overcooked and the amount of salmon was really small, barely tasted it. First and last time there. I love onion soup but theirs was just so so. Anytime in my long life it's always had a hearty French type bread on top. The bread here was some type of brown or pumpernickel bread that was just awful and the onions weren't cut up very well. I also ordered the chicken fried streak that was a pretty generous piece but their gravy was flavorless and cold and the broccoli was also cold and overcooked. My husband had the sunrise combo. The pancakes were good, the sausage links just ok, home fried potatoes just ok, toast was ok (can't screw up toast) but the eggs were over easy & snotty I had the Belgium waffle with strawberries (1.00 upcharge) and that's all it was is cut up fresh berries no juice, no syrup & no flavor.
