Fresh ground beef burgers cooked when ordered, employees who greet you when walking in, extremely clean dining room, and a pretty large $4 menu.. Why isn't this chain up in the Northeast?? I would love to have one of these close to home. I can only think of one chain where I live that gives this type of service. For a fast food restaurant, Steak and Shake left a great impression on me. Everyone in my car traveling through was very satisfied with what they ordered, and I was also happy with one of the workers who took a minute if her time to chat with my 5 year old and give her a cooks hat and a kids toy and coloring booklet. I never am upbeat about fast food places, but this one has me looking forward to stopping in again. The people in the area should be thankful to have this type of service and product that's provided. read more

I stopped here on a road trip through Georgia. I was dismayed to see the guy at the drive through window wearing his mask on his chin only. By the time he handed me my fully cold fries his mask was gone completely. Regardless of federal mandate it should be common sense that those making and serving food should be MASKED UP and any restaurant owner should be prioritising protecting the customers they serve. read more

March 8th, 2013 @ 10am When you do as many road trips as we do you have no choice but to lower your standards. When nature calls or the gas needle is so low it uses your voice navigation to say "get off at the next exit fool or your gonna be walking", then you can't really be too picky about where to eat. This is generally made worst when impatient hungry children are on board. Lucky for me this particular exit off I-75 has a lot of great choices. Unlucky for me is the fact that dad usually gets outvoted when it comes to road trip stops. It's very important for me to have the kids fill up so that we aren't stopping every two hour and this usually means going someplace of their choice. I really wanted to try the breakfast pancakes at Denny's near the exit since I hadn't been there in over a decade. So we passed Denny's and drove about a quarter mile further down the road to one of their favorite burger places. It was to my delight Steak n' Shake had a poster in the window advertising breakfast tacos and pancakes. I'm picky about pancakes and didn't want to get too excited, so I ordered a burger while my kids choose the all you can eat pancakes. ---------- Ironic huh? THEY wanted the burgers and I wanted the pancakes... which is how we wound up here!!! ---------- I figured I'd steal a sample of theirs and their would be no harm no foul if I didn't like them. Sadly, I use my children's plates as a way to create my own personal buffet... lol THE VERDICT Long story short, these pancakes surpassed my expectations for a fast food restaurant, which prompted me to thank the cooks. If this wasn't a fluke and they can remain consistent to the same quality I enjoyed today, they would rank as some of my favorites! The pancakes were fluffy, golden and had great flavor (similar to IHOP). I was happy that karma smiled on me... by making sure my children are happy, occasionally I get a bonus for myself! --------------- SIDE NOTE: The sausage and egg taco was also very good but the bean n' egg and the potato n' egg breakfast tacos were 'meh'. Eat here! GREAT service! Great sit-down Fast-Food! We stopped at this Valdosta exit be there are so many more choices than most exits on Highway 75 between Atlanta and Orlando. I had the regular steakburger and my husband had the spicy chicken sandwich. We both had a side of slaw instead of fries. We love Steak and Shake because the quality from store to store is pretty darn consistent and this was no exception! What usually sets one apart from another is the level of customer service. The server we had here was a wonderful young woman who was very attentive and made sure my husband got an extra tea to go for "the road". But our server wasn't the only one taken good care of customers, I couldn't help but notice another young woman being very courteous and polite to other diners and helping them be reseated at a more comfortable booth. Stoppd here on the way home from Florida. The service was great. Everything else was not. At 2 pm the place was mobbed. To keep up with the crowd, the kitchen was turning out subpar food (irony: serve them fast, but make it poorly!) My single burger was about 3/4 a patty -- it didn't even fill the bun. Fries were barely cooked. The shake was good, but if they were turning out poor food in the name of speed, it still wasn't that fast. Also, the bathroom was VILE. The toilet seat straight-up needed to be replaced: the plastic was corroded. The sinks were scratched and stained, and the floor in the stall was smeared black with filth. If I lived in town I would never return to this location. As stated, the hostess and Erica, our server, were polite and efficient, but nothing else about this experience was acceptable. read more

For the record, the manager was visible and working hard to please customers. The burgers and fries were as good as ever. However, the entire chain has gone to 99% self service which can be confusing to us older diners. Still, I struggled through it and mistakingly ordered unnecessary toppings for my burger. Then at time of payment the chain has the audacity to ask, "how much would you like to tip?" Tip for what, making me do my own work? Who do they think they are, "grocery stores?" Thankfully there's a "no tip" entry to choose. If the chain is paying their employees so little that they need a tip to get them by is sad. Apparently the wage is enough to keep the doors open. Tipping is out of control. I'm a 20% minimum tipper even if the server is slow, but not rude. I know they make less than hourly workers and deserve some help. But normal salaried workers shouldn't expect tips. The resturant was clean and the manager made it a nice place to visit. read more

The worst service! Terrible! After waiting for thirty minutes in the drive thru and a host of cars honking behind me, I went in to check on things, They're not serving food indoors, so I was literally the only person inside. The man running the grill with NOTHING ON IT was on his cell phone and shocked to see me standing there. I explained the situation while two other employees sauntered out of the back and he told me I could order from him. The only person working was the poor guy actually at the window. When I said, I've been waiting for thirty minutes and you already have the order, we are in the drive thru and I was just checking to see what's happening, he nodded. I returned to my vehicle to have the lazy woman who sauntered out of the back, chuckle while she closed the window in our face and told me "they were busy and we will get our food when it's ready...". They should have just closed. They wait staff will blatantly ignore you and look away if you try and ask for anything from the counter. The manager woman with the next tattoo is extremely rude as she just stood back there smacking gum and berating customers. Was loudly telling one customer about the no refund policy from the kitchen across the whole store as the man just politely asked how much longer on his food. He was told he could wait on his food or leave that he's not getting money back. She definitely shouldn't be in any position of authority We waited 45 minutes for our food as the grill only cooked one order at a time. You could hear the call out one order at a time for him to start cooking. When our food arrived we was missing extra sauce that I paid for useing the kiosk. And was rudely told after standing there for 15 minutes being completely ignored it would be 38 cents. That they didn't get it wrong they put it on the sandwich instead of in the side. . We stopped at a motel late at night time and we were going to eat here since everything else was pretty much closed besides a few other places. First and foremost, I must admit I am writing this review in the front parking lot as I wait on my food. Another 10 minutes goes by... One must also note that is 10:30 on a Sunday. Not a lick of business in the restaurant (cook out next door stole all their customers, wonder why?) I must add, so I am immediately annoyed at the fact that they do not have any sweet tea. We are in South Georgia... I find it humorous that this location has poor business but even more humorous that the rude, lifeless bums working inside are either too lazy or too incompetent to put a little work in to make their (very few!) customers at least semi happy. As I approach the window to pay, the bots inside (3 of them!) were trying to read and process the ticket, all while no food is prepped; which may explain the absurd wait. 25 minutes for a drive thru and restaurant with no one in it. This place has been quite disappointing for me too many times. Service is ridiculously slow, food comes out wrong, I sometimes get my shake long after my food was brought out to me, if I even get my shake! Waiters are really nice but I'm not sure what takes them so long to bring my stuff out and to pay more attention to me and my party.
