Food is great, but the customer service is subpar. My sister asked for mayonnaise in the drive thru, they had us pull into a parking space so they'd have more time to bring it to us (I'm assuming the best, here) and my sister still had to go inside to get a cup of mayonnaise that they tried to charge her for. read more

Really? It's almost 9pm on a Tuesday night...there's hardly anyone here and you can't wait on the tables better than this? We waited 7 minutes just to be acknowledged at the "wait here to be seated" sign...someone else has already gone to get their own refill...and another family just sat down because they got too tired of waiting....still no drinks. The manager appears to be cleaning the grill, he has yet to turn around and look into the dining room since we walked in. There are literally 17 people in here. Worst Steak and Shake experience ever. They didn't have all the items on the menu, they were out of baked beans. Never identified herself as a manager but never went to get anyone else . When asked for money back she did not seem to care about customer service and just told the back area to just dump our food. We stopped here for lunch while driving on to NC. Daughter had the Taco Salad with Ranch Dressing and liked it. Hubs had the All American Hot Dog. It was overcooked and very salty. The herb on his fries were a nice change. I had the Chicago Hot Dog. It was also overcooked and salty. i didn't like it. Hubs' hot dog was less overcooked than mine, though. Worst Steak 'n Shake I've ever been to. I did a review for this place a while back, and got an email from the owner pleading to change it and give it another chance. I removed my review considering they were under new management. Well, it still sucks. The staff is always unhappy and unprofessional. Don't even attempt to go later at night. I sat in the drive through at around 11 on Saturday for 20 minutes and didn't move at all. Very slow even on their good nights. The place is overall still dirty. Consistently gets orders wrong. It's a tragedy because I love the food here, but service is terrible. Something should be done. read more

Excellent service and food, every employee was cheerful (hostess, server). Food came quickly, though it was slow in the restaurant for lunch time. For the price, you really can't beat Steak and Shake right now, burgers and fries are very good, and I really like the retro-diner atmosphere. This is the worst Steak 'n Shake I've been to. I placed my order & the guy asked me to stay at the speaker box for a few minutes while they started on my order. I'm assuming this was so their speed of service wouldn't be so long? I gave him my card to pay & asked for ketchup, salt & pepper. He came back with ketchup in a small container, no packets, forgot to give me back my card until I told him I needed a receipt. Got to the hotel & grease was all over the bag. The food was super greasy & I'm pretty sure the fries had been recooked. I know where I won't go if I visit here again. read more

Eveytime I've went there it's been a good experience. The crew is very nice, and the food is amazing and relatively cheap. There is a man named Blade that works there, and so far that is pretty much the only cook that I really like and knows how to make an EXTREMELY good, juicy burger. My server Ci was very happy to serve us and amazing. Got our drinks and food in a decent amount of time. Will definitely be going back many more times! read more

i can understand having to wait at a restaurant if there is a bigger crowd, but not if im the third person in line with nobody behind me, then it might be a different story. I was listening to the car in front of me to start their order and I never heard anything from the drive-thru mic. the car in front of me finally just pulled off and left. I pulled up and was ready to go with my order [all i wanted was a shake]. I waited for atleast 5 minutes and literally never heard a word from the drive through worker. It had become all to apparent to me that they had just completely ignored the person that was in front of me and also myself. they could not even give me the courtesy of letting me know if they were busy and asking me to hold. ive never had that happen to me at any drive through ever, until then. Visited on a Sunday 1pm. We were there an hour before we asked for our food to be brought to is in a to-go container. Apparently they were waiting on one dish. We asked for an alternate dish to be substituted so we could go. Waitress brought is our food plated and we were required to out it in the to-go boxes. Waitress forgot one box, and plasticware, bit proceeded to wait on other tables before bringing us the items. Bathrooms were in terrible shape. read more

Very poor service: I went to the drive through at Valdosta's Steak 'n Shake at 980 N Saint Augustine Road for a quick meal at 10:30 a.m. on a weekday to eat as I was driving. No one responded at the drive through. I put my vehicle in reverse and backed up and drove forward again in case a sensor had not been tripped and alerted them. Still no one speaks up to take my order. After a polite call into the speaker from my end and a wait time of around 3-4 minutes total, which feels like a long time waiting for someone to speak up to take order, I pulled around to park and go inside to order. In doing so, I passed an employee in parking lot on her cell phone (I'm guessing this was not restaurant business.) I stepped to counter to place my order. No one was there or anywhere in the restaurant or grill area that I could see other than 2 patrons seated at one table. This time the wait was only about a minute when the employee from the parking lot (Bonnie was her name, I think) enters the restaurant. As she is walking in the door, she asks "Will this be for here or take out." What happened to "Welcome to Steak 'n Shake. So Sorry for your wait."??? Nevertheless, I politely answered "to go." I placed my order which included a shake. She said, "It will be a while on your shake." I asked what was up (thinking maybe a machine mix was not frozen yet before I realized their milkshakes are hand dipped.) She said the person who makes the milkshakes does not come in until 11. She told me she would have to make it herself. I believe she was hoping I would change the order to a soft drink so that she would not have to go to the effort to make the milkshake herself. But I just said yes, I'd still like a milkshake. Keep in mind, there is only one table filled in the whole restaurant and no one else at this time is waiting besides me. And apparently the two guests people had already eaten or were just having coffee because she was just outside on her cell phone and no one was at the grill cooking. Nevertheless, she made it clear that I would have to wait "a while". Then a (nice) guy comes in sight to make the burger and fries. He was polite and seemed to do his job efficiently. He delivered the burger and fries in a bag to me with a smile and a greeting. But even though my burger and fries was prepared, I still had no milkshake. Bonnie had moved to the back area. I occasionally saw her through an open server window -- again on her cell phone! I waited a couple more minutes as my burger and fries and after a few more minutes finally received a shake. I gave no "attitude" toward Bonnie in any way nor was she not overtly rude to me. But the lack of a greeting on her way into the restaurant after I was inside waiting for service or even a quick apology for my wait (either at the drive through or at the counter) or even for waiting so long for a shake lacked even basic elements of customer service. Bonnie seemed "inconvenienced" by my 10:30 arrival and would have clearly preferred that I go somewhere else so as to not interrupt her parking lot cell phone session. I admit that I will probably go back because the food was good enough for a quick bite. And I am hoping that Bonnie's supervisor (or general manager if she was a supervisor) will realize she needs further training and will provide. Or maybe she will find another job she enjoys. By the way, I called later that day to try to speak with a manager. But the phone rang (probably around 25 times) with no answer. I was not surprised by that. It is a shame this place has such horrible service because the food is actually decent. 20 minutes to be seated, 15 to get your order and another 30 plus minutes for your food. Meanwhile one of the cooks is just standing at his station like he has nothing to do. Friday, Aug. 4th, 2017 at around noon. My 9 yr old loves the mini cheeseburgers kids meal, so we stopped on our way back to Illinois. They sat us by the kitchen where there was a horrific smell of garbage wafting out the entire time. It smelled like we were sitting by a dumpster!! It was disgusting. The utensils weren't totally clean, and the condiment containers on the table were filthy. I wanted to move, but my husband didn't want to cause a scene. The ONLY saving grace was that our waitress was the sweetest thing. We won't be eating there again. read more

I just LOVE Steak N Shake, so whenever we travel, I make sure to stop and have their steak burger, terrific skinny fries and a shake. Nobody beats them! So of course we pulled off to have lunch when we were passing through Georgia last Monday on our recent trip south. We were surprised to see so few people in the restaurant at lunch time but thought little of it at the time. Our waitress was very pleasant and of course the food was everything that I expected, but something is very very wrong with the staffing in this location. Our food was very slow coming, many people were sitting around for quite awhile with only drinks, it was hard to get our check because the waitresses were busing the tables, and there was NO ONE running the register (and I do mean NO ONE!) I watched one poor woman wait an awfully long time just to place her takeout order. My advice: the food is terrific, just size up the restaurant before you sit down and see if it seems like there is enough staff on duty to actually run the place. read more

Went the other night with my boyfriend. Our server was super kind. It was like 1 a.m. I am a server so I felt bad she was serving the graveyard shift bc the place was dead. The blonde girl that was working the window was upfront facing us talking to the cook that was sitting at the register on a stool and she was talking loud and ghetto about all of her life problems. I'm going to school to be a teacher so her pronunciation (dis day dem) (how you be doin dis) etc. Was really crawling my skin. Keep in mind the place had two tables. The server was handling the other table and mine and my boyfriend's cups were dead empty and she just kept talking louder and louder and never once offered to help her coworker that was busy at the time. If you have enough time to talk you could be helping. TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK! selfish and obnoxious is what she was and the cook guy. Maybe his name was Curtis not 100% his name was on his belt but I can't exactly remember if I'm right or not, he was just lazy! You had the drive thru girl talking trash and cooking on the grill while the grill guy sat down and my drinks were low and we were thirsty af! Just bad staff good food. I will not be back to Steak 'n Shake. I came to get a nice meal. No one greeted me upon pulling up at the drive thru. So I very politely said "excuse me" when no response i said "may i order?" again no response. When I decided to finally pull off the women responds with "Was all that really necessary?" i told her i was just trying to order and even apologized. I was with 3 friends and we all sat there for atleast 2-3 minutes we were able to hold a conversation debating if we should go inside or if maybe he drive thru was even closed. The women then says "I mean you couldn't have waited 2 seconds" at that point i told her to have a goodnight and pulled off. My friend called and asked to speak to a manager. When we were put on "hold" we heard the women say "it's the girls from the drive thru i don't know what they want". When finally speaking to the manager it was obvious she was laughing and told my friend there was nothing she could really do. Got seated after 15 minutes with no line. My family and I sat down and didn't get served after another 15 minutes. The shakes literally took 45 to come out and we didn't get our food until 1 and a half hours of arriving there. The food also didn't taste like other Steak and Shakes I've had before which made it even worse. The only redeeming quality about this restaurant is the friendly staff. Just plain awful. read more

We were seated fairly quickly and then completely ignored by the "server" who cleaned a table or two in a restaurant that was fairly empty with lots of clean tables! He took orders for another table of guests that arrived after we did. When we spoke up, one employee said, "Well I'm off." We walked out and this restaurant lost our business as well as our respect.
