This was my first visit to a Steak 'n Shake in several years, and also my first time placing an order at one of their kiosks. I think that process works very well. I was able to customize my order very easily, and I appreciated the convenience. Our food and shakes came out fairly quickly. The burger patties were juicy, and the burgers were made correctly. Their fries remain among my favorites for burger chains, even without having to load or spice them in any way. Their shakes are made and taste the ways I want them to be, though I did notice that there was a difference of as much as 1" of shake in various glasses we received. The station for things such as condiments, napkins, plastic-ware, etc., was out of a few things. Even worse was the men's room, which needed some repairs and cleaning. But even so, these things would not be enough to deter me from coming back here were I in the area again. read more

Use of kiosk mandatory. A separate receipt is needed to get a drink. If a receipt does not print, staff doesn't know how to deal with getting a customer a drink, though they seem to know how to do that for the drive-thru. Looks like they just not want to deal with customers. Men's bathroom only had one commode not taped up but wouldn't flush. read more

Considering this is a Tesla supercharger location I found it very displeasing that on the doors it clearly states restrooms are for customers ONLY. Even though the front of the restaurant was clean, the restrooms were not. They opened at 10am, but clearly were not ready for service. Can't speak for the food, but the customer service was unfriendly and poor. read more

If it weren't for the food being so damn good, it'd be a 1 star. I personally prefer my sandwiches flat. On two separate occasions now I have had my frisco melts thrown in the bottom of the bag and they've proceeded to fold like a taco. An added 3-5 seconds to place it flat at the bottom is all it would take to resolve this. read more

Only people in the place. Bought a combo meal (sandwich, fries, drink). Soda machine was turned off, but was told I needed a receipt to get a soda. The kiosk I ordered at didn't print one out (again, only people in the place/no receipt in the bin). Woman reinterated that "Everyone gets a receipt, so no drink". So no drink for me.... Horrible customer service. We were told to wait at the drive through and no one came back for maybe 10-15 minutes. When someone finally came back they yelled at us because they never came back to take our order. After she yelled at us she continued to talk crap about us to her other coworkers and forgot to mute her headset. Absolutely horrible people that work here. read more

I was unpleasantly surprised by the order by Kiosk ordering and pay before ordering. Our double steak burgers were just ok. Not really hot as was the fries and onion rings. I've been attempting to get food for over a month now through the drive thru. One night I came through only to see a sign hanging that said the drive thru was closed due to being short staffed. Other times the wait to get to just the menu was 15 minutes. And I can only imagine what the wait would be after. Another time I waited 10 minutes behind another car at the menu only to have two teens stumble out the back door wrestling each other to tell me that the drive thru was closed due to being short staffed. There was a chair and some trash by the door. This last time was the last straw. They have dirty bins full of food waste and trash sitting right beside their back door and drive thru menu along with a chair. It's been over a week and they can't get it cleaned up. They need to get their act cleaned up quite literally. read more

What has happened to the restaurant of my childhood? The re-did their menu, adding such disappointments like the Pork Belly Sandwich, which I just tried. Steak n Shake obviously doesn't do BBQ very well. They should stick to what they were good at. But even that isn't what it used to be. The Frisco Melt, Chili Deluxe, and Cheese Fries were enough to scratch my itch, but they're just not what they used to be. The cheese sauce had a somewhat sour hint to it. The frisco sauce tasted a little different, and the sandwich wasn't cut diagonally like I remember. And the chili was made with sandwich onions instead of diced onions, so they kept sliding off my spoon. Maybe it was just this location. They didn't even remember to give me a spoon for my chili. Stopped by here for a few shakes. We got a total of three shakes and waited in the drive through for 30 minutes until we were able to order. There was only two cars ahead of us. My milkshake had no flavor at all. My boyfriends milkshake was sloppy and there was whipped cream all over the lid. Driving though Ohio for my cousin's wedding, I saw signs for Steak N Shake at nearly every exit. It was getting pretty late in our drive, and I figured we should stop for food. A quick glance at the reviews indicated that Steak N Shake would be one the best choice if we were to stop in Zanesville. Super, because I was jonesin' for a tasty burger. Unfortunately, Steak N Shake didn't live up to the hype. Everything was okay, as in, "I'll eat it" but I wouldn't classify anything I had worthy of a return visit. Other than the insanely cheap prices, I can't see much about this place that would bring me back. My guacamole burger didn't have the flavor or intensity I would have expected. There was seriously a tablespoon full of guacamole on the burger, a dollop, enough to taste but not enough to enjoy. The burger itself was thin and held together by a slice of partially melted cheese. The thin cut fries were nice, but that's about it. The shakes were okay, but I've had better ones elsewhere. Service was generally slow, we waited 30 minutes after placing our order and the restaurant wasn't even at capacity. Sure, for the late night crew, coming back from the bars, yeah, I can see the allure this place has. But for all the times in between, I think I will pass. I felt like it was the Del Taco of burgers and shakes. Cheap, sure, but it's worth paying extra to get something a bit more satisfying. read more

Highway-side fast food restaurants are the ambassadors of small towns. Sometimes, on a long road trip, fast food is the only option that is still open late night, that won't delay the trip too much. This Steak & Shake's food was pretty standard for the chain (still wish there were more vegetarian/pescatarian options, and with my sore throat I was really hoping to find some place with soup), but our order was delivered hot and fresh. The delivery and service is what impressed me! Our server, Jasmine, had the frequency of checking on our table and water down pat, she was unobtrusively friendly and caring. There were little things like finding honey for my tea and serving it with the first tea bag already in the cup (with a spare bag for the refill on the saucer), and generally ... hard to explain, but wanting us to be healthy and happy. Other staff members were joking around with a cheerful atmosphere and asking if we needed anything when I accidentally met eyes with them, and it was just a polite, warm experience. 5* for service, just wish that the chain had a few more options when fried feels like too much. Another staple burger joint you can find in many states so everyone's familiar with the everyday values here. Now to the store, location is off the interstate so very accessible and location is in close proximity to several hotels. The property has been well maintained and the shop is cleaned up pretty good too. With the amount of business it gets, things may look a lil less than sparkly when people are coming and going but we've had no bad issues yet. Gave me about a half portion of chili mac that wasn't prepared properly and thrown in a small bowl. Then I was charged for an extra chili supreme and was told it would be taken off. There's just something about heading to Steak N Shake after the bar's closed on a Thursday night that leaves me with happy memories. The wait staff here is excellent, and really great at dealing with loud crowds or people who are not quite sober. They are professional and courteous and make the experience a lot more fun. That being said, their milkshakes are out of this world. I often find myself craving one! The butter pecan is a fantastic addition to the menu. I haven't gotten my food yet, but when ordering, I asked if the establishment's cookies were nut free. The server shrugged at what I thought to be an easy question. For me and I hope everyone, allergies are a serious matter; therefore, a server should know off the top of his or her head such a question, especially on a highly ordered product. Apparently, this was not the case. Confused on what happened, I asked to replace the item with something else. The answer was no... Our table just received our mediocre milkshakes. As wasting almost 4 dollars wasn't enough, the server was disrespectful when distributing the beverages. Making sure it was his milkshake while the server was handing them out, my friend questioned if the milkshake was Reese's when she said chocolate peanut butter. I never witnessed more sass after my friend's question. I wouldn't even consider the milkshake chocolate peanut butter because there was not any in it. We just received our food, and it was not worth the price. I wouldn't even get payed to eat at the restaurant. For one, we didn't receive all of our food for the servers forgot a couple of our sides. Apparently, a barbecue burger does not have barbecue either. Tiny cold fries, soggy pickles, and uneatable cookies leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I wish I could throw up on command to get this terrible food out of my stomach. It's funny how Steak and Shake copied Wendy's 4 for 4, yet this restaurant does it no justice. We waited for like ever while the servers stood around no one wanted to seat us. Then when we did get seated, this girl came over and said sorry I have to stock the sugars because 3rd shift manager wants to complain. So we order our food, we didn't get many fries, they wasn't hot at all, ketchup was empty on the table. I asked for cheese, but only gave me a quarter cup of cheese, hardly anything in it.
