We stopped at Bummie's on Main purely based on Yelp reviews. Bummie's is a bit of a dive but with EXCELLENT food. I'm told that their original location, which burned down, was true dive bar but that this location (while upgraded) is still a bit of a dive bar. Not much to look at from outside but DON'T LET THAT DETER YOU. The menu leans heavy to burgers and sandwiches. My wife had a Reuben (her "go to" favorite) and she said it was excellent. I had the fried bologna and it was also excellent. My benchmark for a good fried bologna is the G&R Tavern in Waldo, OH. The fried bologna at Bummies was as good as the one at G&R and a lot closer to home. Now for the "icing on the cake" - their onion rings were incredible. Both my wife and I had the onion rings and we might drive back just for the onion rings. I didn't get a chance to try the fries but they looked awesome. I have celiac disease. Do not go here if you are allergic to wheat. Staff knew nothing about the disease. Ended with only having a salad which was good. Bummie's has a cauliflower crust but it is baked in an oven that also bakes flour crusts. No GF menu or any thing marked on the menu. WOW... how have I never stopped in before??? What a find... this place is AWESOME. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but it rings the bell in all other areas. It has that neighborhood restaurant feel. The environment is super friendly with a great staff. Our waiter, Michael, is a Rockstar - the advice, recommendations, and service were fantastic. We got the mushrooms for an appetizer, which were homemade - not frozen - OMG, they are the best fried mushrooms I have ever had. I had the Reuben with onion rings - the reuben was delicious, but the onion rings were off the hook good. Wifie had Chef's salad, which she loved. No place in Newark is better for a burger and beer. They have relocated after a fire over a year ago and less of a dive unfortunately. I lived their old place. The new place outside of downtown took over a previous thriving pizza joint. Parking can be tight! The lot was clear of debris. I sat at the bar with a friend and service was immediate and extremely friendly. The business was extremely busy around noon on a weekday. They list their craft beer on a menu board and rotate around eight. The front area has bar and booth seating. An area in the back and side tables. Everything was clean. I ordered a cheeseburger with side of onion rings. Also a craft brew. Most people around me had burgers. My friend ordered a Ruben. Our waiter said the owner was there when mentioning the old place. Food hit the counter in around 20 minutes. Everything looked and smelled amazing! My burger was juicy and packed with flavor. My onion rings plentiful and a delight. The beer was a perfect accompaniment. My friend said his Ruben rocked! Our waitress checked in on us. We had apps which consisted of the pretzel bites. They were fried and served with a cheese sauce as well as honey mustard. They were good. Crisp on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. The fries and onion rings were great. The fries were had cut, nice crisp and soft center. Onion rings were huge! I ordered the Ragin' Cajun' it was amazing. Great cook on the burger. This place has a comforting vibe from the moment you step through the front door. Our server, Zoey, was outstanding! She recommended the BBQ Fried Chicken sandwich special which turned out to be a generous portion of comfort food. Delicious. The bologna sandwich and Rueben were top shelf diner-style meals. Sometimes you can see the bias in reviews. I will admit a bias about this review, I want to give it 5 stars and say how much I love it even before my actual return. I did select 4 stars for this recent visit. Now to justify that. A few years ago I found myself traveling from Columbus to Newark more often than previous years. Since we are there more frequently we decided back around 2020 to use Yelp to find someplace in the area to eat. This was one of the first places we tried. Back then it was in their previous location. When we went, it was great! I would rather get good bar food than a meal at a 5 star restaurant. We visited twice and fell in love with this place. Great burgers, great wings, great service in a friendly atmosphere with good servers. If you had to look for a negative, its popularity and location made for not a lot of parking. But we found it worth it. Like many restaurants we joined their facebook page and followed them there for specials and announcements. We either went 2 or 3 times and then came the awful news that this fine place had a major fire. I am sure if you google BUMMIES NEWARK FIRE you will see all you need to know. We were of course sad for us, but given the time period, this was a hard time for restaurants and small businesses anyway. Many years ago I worked for an industrial company and our Florida location had a fire and one thing I remember very clearly is the Pompano Beach Fire Marshall said he was glad we were re-opening as that makes them less suspicious of of Arson. It was very reassuring to follow Bummies on social media and know they were coming back. It was a long road, and of course it had to be an even longer road for the owners. During this time and the reopening, I found out this place wasn't my little secret, Many people in Central Ohio and surrounding area were aware and were in first mourning, then rejoicing at its return! Well, I don't know all the details, but they ended up going to a new location (current as of 2023) that was probably a bar/pizza place and taking that over. As a result, they are now a pizza place too! They first re-opened as a carry out pizza place then the bar/restaurant opened up after. If it seems like a long time coming to me, I have to think it was much worse for the owners and staff. We found ourselves on a last minute trip to Newark this summer and decided to stop in for our first return visit. What we didn't know was as we we were walking out our Columbus home, WBNS 10TV in Columbus was airing a story about their return to business. So, in the hour it took us to get there, the place was packed! we couldn't stay. So on a nice fall Saturday at an off time we stopped in. We had a great time and this place made me very happy. We had wings, burgers, and a few other items. The burgers were good, hard to fault a build your own burger with so many choices. I use to consider myself a Buffalo wing expert having run Columbuswings.com for many years in the 80s to 2000 or so. It was there wings that caught our attention on that first visit. We had a great visit with a great attentive server who catered nicely to our 2 grandchildren. The whole time I saw one of the owners whom I recognized from social meeting watching over the place and helping out. I could see a happy satisfied look on her face. I don't normally empathize with business owners, but I feel really good for these people. Welcome back! Prices, especially restaurant prices has really inflated in the last two years and these prices are up, but perhaps not as much as other places. I still feel like we got a good value here. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars again in the pizza. We didn't try it, and that is only because we tried our favorites first. I'd hate to give them 5 stars and find out the pizza isn't good, but doubt that is the case. Their pizza is featured on their social media and yelp page. I have to think its good, but I promise to try it on our next visit, even if we have to take some of it home. I have to imagine this place is going to work out for them. My only suggestion for improvement is at least 1 handicap parking place. WELCOME BACK read more

The facility gets a 4(it would get a 5 if they had more parking), the service gets a 5 (Carol is great), the food is fantastic, and the value is a 5. So what do we like to eat at Bummies? Well, the burgers are fantastic, their home cut fries the best, and we like their pizza, fried mushrooms and their flippin fish! Have driven past this place many times, and every time we've looked and said we needed to go. Well, we finally stopped in and were not disappointed! We were met by a friendly young lady at the door who told us to have a seat anywhere. It was early afternoon and only a couple of table open, so it was easy. 10 craft beers on tap, all of which were inviting. The same young lady helped us to navigate the menu, assisting with some of the local favorites. We started with a few cold beers, nicely poured with the perfect amount of head on top. Had the cheese cubes, very unique flavor and would get again. I ordered the Ragin' Cajun burger with onion rings and wife built her own with cheddar cheese and onion rings. Looking back, one of us should have ordered the fries because they looked very tasty. Loved the burgers, some of the best we've had. We both had to take half home because they were so big.
