I mention this because we have some amazing steak restaurants in SoCal. The restaurant had several families dining, and had a nice level of background chatter. Our chef took the time to come speak with us, recommend cuts of beef and generally go over our options. This was a lovely surprise as this rarely happens. We started with "fall off the bone" ribs and the Hallumi - (squeaky cheese - wish I could find this here in SoCal... if anyone reading this knows a place... please let me know!) We ordered rib eye steaks, I had the filet... with sides of creamed spinach/truffle fries and Mac and cheese. Everything was cooked to our liking, and the chef came back out to check on us. We actually ended up going back again just because the food and service were great. Look forward to visiting again! (Oooh... if you go, ask for their salts.. I liked the Merlot infused one)

Man were we wrong. Tried making a reservation via OpenTable on our walk over. After three attempts, all resulting in an error stating difficulty connecting with the restaurant we said f it, we were 5 minutes away, it was a Wednesday night, surely they wouldn't be that busy that a reservation would be necessary. Again, wrong. They weren't busy, yet they still required a booking. Why? So that they could force us to have a credit card on file before being seated. Again, why? The hostess was very nice. We were seated and greeted pretty quickly, although we did not find our waiter to be very welcoming. Ordered a G&G which also came relatively quickly, but tasted like it had zero alcohol in it. Disappointing considering the 13.50 price tag. We ordered the lobster Mac and cheese and the surf and turf, medium. Everything came to the table surprisingly fast. Which is typically a good thing, but not when you order lobster and a steak. I immediately knew something was off then before even taking a bite. The lobster Mac, while it had large chunks of meat, was extremely bland and overall disappointing. The steak was medium rare, not medium like I ordered, but I didn't bother saying anything because I had no faith that it would be remediated appropriately. It was also the thinnest cut of steak I've ever paid almost 50.00 for. The lobster was very low on the meat, the claw had the biggest piece. The tail had minimal meat and as expected based on the time it took to "cook" it, was very chewy and bland. It felt like it was microwaved, which is the laziest and worst way to cook lobster. Our bill came to a little over 100 and was honestly not worth it. Do yourself a favor and save your money.

So we asked the waiter if we could go across the way to get ONE freaken daiquiri. He said yes. So we get it come back and plan to order their food. That's when the nasty and rude manager comes out and tells us we have to leave. She says if we brought the drinks with us it wouldn't be a problem but because we went across the way to bring one back that was unacceptable. Yeah that makes no sense. Bring ur own fine, walk 75 feet to get one , no. We planned on ordering a lot of food from there. Before we could ask questions she grabbed our menus and said leave. We sat for two minutes when she comes back outside and shouts I want you to leave. Before I can ask a question or at least finish my drink, she turns her back away and walks away. Rude? Yes. Treated us as less than humans? yes. Coming back? Not one of us, three of which are Windsor residents. By the way, she told them she didn't care if they ever came back.

We rocked up around 9pm with no reservation and there was only one free table in the whole place, luckily we only wanted one so we were off to a good start. The choice of beers was uninspiring. Becks, Budweiser and Brooklyn were the choices. I went for the Brooklyn out of curiosity and because the other two were about as exciting as spending a day across the way at the railway station looking at trains. The Brooklyn was ok, but a little hoppier than I like my beer, your mileage may vary. I started with "Hot! Buffalo wings with blue cheese sauce". They were pretty good but if you put an exclamation mark after the word hot then you had better not be writing cheques which your chef can't cash. They weren't hot enough to justify the exclamation mark in my eyes. For my main I went for the 16oz T bone. It was tasty but not the best cut I've ever had. I asked for it rare and I got it rare, and the presentation of it was good. The chips were skin on and had a good flavour to them. There isn't much greenery in sight, but you come here for the meat, right? All in it was a decent meal, just nothing that amazing. It doesn't deserve the ££££ price rating. My starter was £7, mains are £15/£22. Stop by if you are in town and you should enjoy it. If you travel from further afield just to try it out you might feel a little disappointed.

I also found the restaurant name very catchy, "Meat at the Parish." Well we came back, and I ordered that fish and it was as delicious tasting as it was delicious looking :) Very friendly staff, space was very charming - a lot of warmth all around. Menu is steak and fish. (Note - this review is for a visit in April 2017.) WHOLE GRILLED SEA BREAM - £14.95 Very good, fish was meaty. No sides included. SIDE CAESAR SALAD - £4 Small but perfect salad - bacon and anchovies were a bonus. Housemade dressing. BLOOMING ONION APPETIZER Just ok - my colleague ordered this. She ordered the "Baked Cod w/ Pearl Onions" for her dinner and enjoyed it very much. CHOCOLATE SUNDAE - £6 Colleague ordered this - brownie was good but not warm, and the ice cream was melted b/c they served the dessert on a warm dish :( Our server did encourage us to order the Honey Walnut Cake - we probably should've followed his recommendation. Overall, the service really stood out esp. from the owners. And while normally I like to try different things on the menu, I would order that fish again in a heartbeat. FYI total bill includes 12.5% gratuity.

That is really the last on point part of the meal. He staff was very friendly, but wow did they mess it up. No communication between the three servers and very poor collective service. Example: I ordered a Bombay Sapphire Martini and after a few minutes, i was told they can t make a martini with Bombay. After i challenged that a lady i assume was the manager came over and said oh a martini, yeah we can do that. It was horrible. Then We ordered wine and a beer and both were brought incorrectly. They brought a Stella and not the ordered Guinness (not even close) and a Pinot Noir and not a Pinot Grigio. Again, not even close. We started with olives and fresh sourdough and they were great. We then were served French Onion soup that was fantastic. Next course was the main. We had the Farmhouse salad and the signature Filet L'Escargo. The steak was cooked perfectly and the plate was well balanced. I have made this dish from one of Marcos books and it was well represented. Only issue was the steak was on a small piece of bread and the jus which should be the star of the plate was barely there and the little that was absorbed into the bread. Just was not enough jus there. Very disappointing. The salad had way too much dressing. It was almost inedible. Marco's philosophy is do the simple thing great. That didn't happen on this visit. Really a shame. Gave 3 stars because of the varied menu choices, the incredible soup and cook on the meat. No other redeeming part of this visit. We didn't dare order dessert in fear of more issues. As a side note, we observed people getting turned away because the didn't have a reservation. When we arrived there were 6 people in the place including us. When we left, it was busier but plenty of tables that walk ins easily could have used in that time period. Hate to see the staff make pour business decisions for the man that I idolize in the kitchen. Truly hope this was just a bad night for the staff.
