OMG picked up a slab of ribs to start our Memorial Day weekend! Had two sauces.. Butler sauce and the one with a bit of heat... both wonderful! Bought a side of Pit Beans which my husband said are the best he ever had... with a hint of cinnamon. The Cole slaw and potato salad are also far superior to what is sold in grocery stores or average restaurants. The ribs smoked out all the grease, which were great with or without the various sauces. If I could I would have rated it 3.5 stars. I was not expecting to see a restaurant that you didn't have table service. ‍ I think that would have helped a lot with the overall experience score. The seating area was fairly cramped and there could have been a wait for a table. We all really liked our entrees. I did express my surprise at the lack of table service and the small size of the restaurant which was just in a strip mall, but I was told that they would be opening another location that is more in my surrounding area, which I think will help a lot as far as the number of customers in this very small place. I've been here twice. I honestly don't know why the place doesn't have 5 stars by now. I saw that most of the one star reviews were absolutely asinine. Some people gave this place a one star because they had an issue with the owner or they had too many sauces or other vacuous reasons. We seriously live in a world of snowflakes who can't appreciate really good bbq. This is one of the best bbq places in Illinois and you don't have to drive all the way to Chicago just to get some. The first time I had a triple meat combo platter with brisket, pulled pork, and ribs. I got fried mac and cheese and fried pickles as the sides. The fried pickles I found a bit salty for my taste. The fried mac and cheese were delicious. The second time I had the burnt ends sandwich with cornbread and each bite was very tender. I also ordered apple bourbon chicken wings and they were very flavorful. I had a sample of the rib tips and it was cooked to perfection. read more

The brisket is pure barbecue heaven, moist, tender, and full of smoky love. Who would have thunk in a suburb you'd find such good barbecue. Pulled pork is good, not life-changing. Ribs I wouldn't get again, on the more dry side. During lunch rush, it can be a bit of the wait, but it is worth it. HOT DAMN!!! We've found good BBQ!! My husband was born and raised Memphis, TN and I spent half of my life there, so our BBQ standards are a little different than many people in the Chicago area. Hence, we have a hard time finding what we would call GOOD BBQ......but I think we've hit pay dirt at Steamboat! We stumbled in here on a Saturday evening and it immediately reminded us of a BBQ joint in the south. The delicious smell of smoky BBQ smacks you in the face as soon as you walk through the door.......yummy! There was a small crowd, but service was fast and efficient. After ordering, I went to find a table and as I walked past the open kitchen area, I saw a whole pig in the smoker. At that point, I knew.........Steamboat IS BRINGING IT! My husband and I both had the pulled pork dinner with fries. The dinners come with 2 sides, so my husband had Mac & cheese and I had potato salad as a second side. The pulled pork was DREAMY. It was super tender and the flavor was amazing. The sides were all really good as well. The mac&cheese worried us initially because it's fried triangles of mac & cheese, but they were tasty. They also offer an array of sauces. We tried the Apple Bourbon sauce and we liked it so much, we didn't try anything else. We met the owner and he is a super nice and friendly guy. He works in the kitchen and he walks around and asks everyone how their meal was. We talked to him about Memphis for awhile and he knew about all the best BBQ joints there......not just the touristy ones. He also gave our 2 boys free root beer floats! Went to have lunch at this bbq place that I have frequented throughout the years. And I haven't been there in awhile so I was excited to eat some pulled pork and brisket. Which I ordered 2 dinner for me and a co worker. The bill was $45 which is fine. But we wanted to dine in and so I made my way to the bathroom and was asked, "where are you going?" Which I replied to use the washroom and I was told by what seemed to me to be a owner or manager that the bathrooms are not for the public in a condescending manner. I was beside myself...meanwhile my coworker said that he needed to wash his hands as we were on lunch break. The blonde owner/manager then reluctantly gave us permission. You asked the following questions: "Did you see the smoker that we smoke our meats in positioned 8' in front of the door?" Nope. I was too busy observing my food cooked the way I didn't want it to be cooked (fried). "Do you know that all of the meats you are describing are cooked 1st in the smoker and then intentionally cooled down or held hot and then either finished in the fryer or on the grill for a couple purposes?" No, but why can't I just get fresh BBQ FROM the smoker? That's real BBQ where I come from. Cooled down meat or held hot? A choice??? Wow on that one! "Who is it that wrote the rules for BBQ and what should be done for a quality product?" Nobody. And, I am glad they didn't allow you to do so. I know a quality product when I see/taste one. I have had the best BBQ around and yours is not it. Sorry, John B. The best that I have had didn't even have any fryers or charbroilers in their establishment. They had smokers. "Side question, did you know that the most successful competition bbq cooks are cooking their briskets for about 5 hours at over 350 degrees? That certainly would be a break from convention don't ya think?" It would. Which would explain why I didn't enjoy your brisket. Brisket, traditionally, is smoked, fatty side up, 12 hours at 250 degrees, then a rest period, then sliced and served. "Tips so that they don't sit around all day in a bbq sauce bath and turn to mush. We serve a good amount of them and they would get served 1 of 3 ways. Either you are here when they (meat) come off the smoker, always the best option and if you are here when they do, ask for them." If you was a good businessman, you would have offered them to me as a make up (like you did for seven other patrons. Not hard up for a free meal. Just sayin'), fresh tips off the smoker (boy, I bet that is good BBQ tips!), and show me what Steamboat BBQ is really made of. Evidently, you don't value my patronage, which is fine. How can tips be moist when fried??? Why would you served tips one of three ways??? That equals three different results!!! Silly to me. I am glad the weather is changing so that I can smoke my own BBQ, traditionally, and I won't have to deal with non-traditional methods. This place is located right off of Geneva in the strip mall. It's a small restaurant, but was packed when we walked in. We ordered the 3 meat BBQ combo dinner with pulled pork, brisket, and the pork hot link. In addition to your choice of 3 meats, you get two sides and white bread. Our sides were fries and the corn. We also ordered a side of the beans. Overall prices were reasonable. The side of beans was a little expensive, but the meat combo was only 15. Pulled pork: 3/5 it was a little dry but still had a great flavor. Brisket: 5/5 by far the best meat we had while eating here. It was super juicy, had a great flavor, good crust, and a good portion. Pork Hot Link: 4/5 super good flavor with a little kick at the end. Beans: 2/5 we both decided the beans tasted a little weird. Very sweet and apple flavored. Corn: 3/5 underwhelming but good flavor Fries: 5/5 amazing. Perfect complement to the brisket. Good flavor and didn't even need ketchup. Steamboat has plenty of sauces to try. We tried the firebox hot, Apple bourbon, and the butlers tribute. Our favorite was the firebox hot. It had a lot of flavor and a good kick towards the end. Ok i have traveled over 1 hr each way to get good rib tips. And worked at bbq myself for over 40 years. This place is fantastic most definitely the best tips i have ever had. (Sorry Robinsons). My wife had some great burnt ends. The price was great as well. I highly recommend Steamboat bbq. Shh, keep this quiet. I'm going to tell you about a secret sandwich. It takes a little bit of extra effort to get, but it's worth it. I'm sharing it with just you because I trust you. Follow these instructions exactly: Order one Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of Slaw. Order one Beef Brisket Sandwich with a side of Onion Rings. Mix Apple Bourbon and Firebox Hot sauces half each in your sauce cups. Optional: order two slices of candied bacon. Would get burnt ends or rib tibs once a week or so since it was Butler's. The burnt ends are meat candy, and among the best I've ever had. However once they started dropping the rib tips in the fryer, they were almost inedible and flavorless.
