Ok this place is amazing. Im a BBQ nut and this is some of the best bbq I've had. Also great service. After coming in for pick up pretty steadily at least 3x a week I called asking if they could deliver because my car broke down. I'm beside myself for not having reviewed Steamboat BBQ. It's been years since my first visit & many others since. I've had a little bit of everything so at this point my mind is made up. Steamboat is among the best BBQ spots of the western suburbs. Their smoked meats & pulled pork are decadent! I've not had one bad portion & don't think I ever will. So why the 4 stars? We'll it's not without its flaws & it's due to the other items. I've ordered their wings & just wasn't about it; dry & not much on them. Have to lower my rating from a 5 to a 4. Last few visits the quality is too inconsistent. Tonight the wife and I both had the pulled pork sandwich. Both were too dry which also made them more tough than they should be. This is not the first time. Interactions with the customers seems to have diminished as well. Never been there before and have lived in the area for over 30 years. Driven by hundreds of time but never thought to stop. Well that's gonna end. They have the best pulled pork I've had in a long time. Burnt ends were also delicious as was the coleslaw and the sweet potato fries. Nothing needed sauce, For it would only cover up the great flavor of the meat. Would get burnt ends or rib tibs once a week or so since it was Butler's. The burnt ends are meat candy, and among the best I've ever had. However once they started dropping the rib tips in the fryer, they were almost inedible and flavorless. We found Steamboat back in 2016 at the Taste of Wheaton. When you see an extremely long line and everyone smiling you gotta try it. We were impressed. We visited the restaurant shortly after and again, equally delicious. Coming from Texas we've had our share of BBQ. The ribs at Steamboat BBQ are melt in your mouth, fall off the bone, full of flavor goodness. There is a perfect amount of crispy outside without losing the moist flavorful inside. We prefer the plain smoked wings. Seriously there is plenty of flavor on the wings. You can add sauce or just use the sauce for dipping. Again, the wings are also tender, flavorful and fall off the bones delicious. We have ordered these for gatherings in bulk and have never been disappointed. We love the fresh cut fries with a touch of salt. You can really taste the freshness of the potatoes. We ordered the individual size of fries and fried pickles. If that's individual I would love to see how big the family size is. FYI * you will leave smelling like smoker if you dine in. So just a heads up on that. They do take call ahead and to go orders! We love smokey dry rub type of barbecue, and Steamboat is our top pick right now. We go to places like Smoque, Sharkos, Cue, etc. The brisket is a little dry but great flavor and texture. Pork is smokey and delicious and tender. The meat stands on it's own with full flavor, so we do not usually add any sauce. But the sauces are all perfect too. The fries and onion rings and cornbread are our top picks there. The sides all taste hand made and fresh. Service has been friendly, patient, helpful and accommodating every time we have been there. read more

We stopped into Steamboat BBQ on a whim - I stumbled across it here on Yelp, actually - and had a very enjoyable lunch. First off, the place is not very big. There are two tables outside and a handful inside, but don't let that discourage you. People come in, eat, and move on at a pretty good clip so you shouldn't have to wait too long if you want to stay and eat. That being said, it can be busy at lunch. Anyway, it's also a bit divey. Like, really, it could use a good scrub down. However, that is normally an indication of a spot that has great food and it holds true here. The BBQ is DELICIOUS! We had a Burnt Ends sandwich, a Pulled Pork Sandwich, some wings, some beans, and some sweet potato fries and everything was outstanding. I honestly cannot pick my favorite because it was all so good. And the portion sizes they give you are nice a big, even for someone with an appetite like mine. Oh, and their wings certainly are jumbo. In addition to the food being tasty, it was prepared rather quickly and came out nice and hot and fresh. We added some of their HOT BBQ sauce to the sandwiches and we were in heaven. The staff seemed to be pretty cordial and the prices are about what you'd expect from a BBQ place - I know we'll be back in the future. Oh, and is it better than Firewater BBQ? That is not for a lack of trying!!!! They are perfectly done with enough fat and meat and crisp to them that the second I walked in and the aroma hit my nose, my mouth started watering!!! I bring a cooler up with me and drive specifically so I can bring them back. I have to be careful to ration it out and freeze (yes I know freezing...) but it's the only way I can have it last for a few months!!!! You don't need any bbq sauce on these tasty morsels but I always pick up a jar of my favorite to take back with me as it can go on anything! I have had their wings, pulled pork and several other items on the menu without disappointment!!!! Had a taste for BBQ and I was in the Wheaton area so decided to try out this place for the first time. Had to go around the corner of a closed down shop to find this place because you don't see immediately off of Geneva. Went inside - there were quite a few people sitting at the tables however this is not a large sit down place to dine in. I ordered the two meat combo - 3 bone ribs and rib tips. Order came out in a timely manner & when I saw my order I was WOW this is a lot of food! I would say the ribs and rib tips were good - although the meat was not fall off the bone meat and eating it wasn't sure if BBQ was supposed to have a tough chew, since I don't eat a lot of BBQ. Huge portion of fries were given and the fries were good (dipping them in the Apple Bourbon BBQ sauce worked out). There is bread with the order however it was placed at the bottom of the meat therefore I skipped the bread. Overall the food was OK. If I was in the Wheaton area again I will give this place another try except I'll order something different read more

Don't order jumbo wings unless and expect whole wings. If you order 10 Jumbo wings.you'll get 5 half wings. 5 drums and 5 flaps. Not sure what school these guys went to...but if that's 10 wings I have 4 arms and 4 legs. Food is good but they really need to update their menu to accurately describe the Chicken wings. Dining here was a mixed bag. Wife and I ordered the two meat dinner and the three meat dinner. We both got the ribs as one of our meat choices. She got the pulled pork with fried pickles and coleslaw. I got the hot link and the brisket with fried pickles and the mac and cheese bites. The ribs were on the disappointing side. They were fine but no better than what I could do at home in the smoker. Wife liked the pork and I thought the brisket and hot link were good. The sides were a mixed bag too. Wife liked the pickles but I thought they were too thin and a bit salty. Mac and cheese bites were good. Wife did not finish the coleslaw so that is a bad sign on that front since she that is her favorite side normally. Service was good. The staff was friendly and food came out in a reasonable time. It's basically a heart attack on a soft, fluffy bun, but YOLO, right? I believe it consists of a sausage, topped with brisket, and then topped with thick cut bacon. They also have all sorts of fun, old timey looking bottles of root beer, cream soda, butterscotch beer, and more. We live dangerously close to this place. Within 5-10 mins walking distance. The food is good but my company buys from here all the time and my order was wrong today so when I called the lady was very defensive saying it's what I ordered online after I told her it wasn't several times, I told her I'd bring it back to get what I ordered and she said she'd throw it away.
