Lifeline to the Islands [Martha's Vineyard MA] Oak Bluffs was the last town we visited and we took the ferry here back to Woods Hole. Steamship Authority also manages the off-site parking lots located in Falmouth and Cataumet... this makes parking convenient and easy for Martha's Vineyard visitors and travelers. We parked at the Thomas B. Landers parking lot in Falmouth. Shuttle service was free. The ferry we boarded from Oak Bluffs was different from the ferry we boarded from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven. This ferry was much larger and it had a full-size snack bar (versus a vending machine). There were plenty of seating and travelers can sit on the deck outside or indoors. If you are taking your car to MV then this is your means of crossing. Reservations open early in the year so if you need a set date then get your car reservation when they open for the best time. Staff are always helpful and I have always been treated with respect. The snack counters have cold drinks, hot coffee, salads, some warm items and snacks. The prices are not unusually high for a ferry. There is usually comfortable seating both outside and climate controlled inside. Sometimes the ferries breakdown or stormy weather impacts the schedules. Most of the time they are right on time. read more

WORST staff I've ever encountered on any ferry/dock anywhere. Extreme ATTITUDES, NASTY, NASTY condescending workers at gate and directing traffic onto ferry! Especially yellow shirt "Troy" at booth. Speaking some kind of "Pig Latin" nobody can understand. They guy in a white shirt directing boarding was equally rude and nasty. Needs a direct attitude adjustment quickly. These dock workers have SERIOUS public interaction flaws and require immediate steamship authority attention. Shame on this company for hiring people like this! Wish I were writing a better review because I enjoy the town of Oak Bluffs; however, the employee Joasler N. has awful customer service and is blatantly rude. My partner was driving up to Joasler, who was waving toward us. He then accused us of trying to hit him when we were simply asking for clarification on where to enter. I then explained the situation, and Joasler proceeded to become very nasty. Great way to travel to Martha's Vineyard. It's a $17 round trip. Ticketing is an easy process. The Oak Bluffs terminal is a delightful one, with a small booth, beautiful murals, screens showing the various times&rates (ferries to New Bedford, Rhode Island&NYC also leave from the dock) The Oak Bluffs terminal has friendly staff, ample space for dining outside on the water. Traveling with the Steamship Authority is a relatively easy process compared to airline travel. Have your tickets ready, there's a snack bar&drinks on board. Fun way to travel. read more

Our first time taking this to Martha's Vineyard and back to Woods Hole- it was like planes-trains & auto mobiles getting here from DC on Thursday. After an hour plane delay we were able to take a bus to the Steamship which departed from Vineyard Haven. Why we loved it: -Great staff. Courteous and friendly. -Very efficient boarding. -Clean boat. -dining area with BEER. thank you. -safety - felt very safe on the boat. -so efficient- watching how the cars, buses and even a construction truck (!) get loaded & unloaded. Cheapest price I found from the Cape main land to Martha's Vineyard. $32 for two adults round trip at the ticket window. The boat was clean and well maintained, safe, reliable, a smooth steady on time departure, arrival, and return. Free shuttle to and from parking (not free) no long waits and no issues. Highly recommend these guys over some of the other fancy pants companies that were approximately $144 for two adults round trip. A+ read more

A quick update for this dock -- they're improving things! Since I've started taking the fast ferry from New Bedford a whole lot more, I've noticed how well-run things are thanks to the crew. They're all very friendly, super organized and timely, which definitely makes travel a whole lot easier and, dare I say, even a little pleasurable. The boat is as clean as can be, considering they move hundreds upon hundreds of vacationers daily. The boats are always running on schedule and the actual trip is usually pleasant. There still isn't a terminal in Oak Bluffs, but if you're traveling to or from MV throughout the summer, chances are you'll come in or out of this nice dock in the heart of OB. It's a great destination for day-trippers, especially as OB center is literally steps from the dock with loads of shops, eateries and fun things to do, including hitting up the beautiful beach. read more

For only $15 round trip, you get from Falmouth to Martha's Vineyard in about 45 minutes (Hyannis is another port where you can board from). The ride is very smooth and the view of the Nantucket Sound is wonderful. Be sure to get a seat on the higher deck. Pets are allowed to go on board and best of all, there's FREE wi-fi! The only downside is that if you are planning on parking your car, there are designated parking lots ($10/day for cars) that are about 5-6 miles away from the Falmouth port, but there is a shuttle that brings you back and forth every 15-30 minutes for free. read more

If you aren't taking the car on the ferry you will need to park at 286 Palmer ave lot. It's safe and shuttle come through all the time just like a airport shuttle. Great service. It's about a 4 mile ride on the shuttle to the terminal. For our family of 4 it cost 68.00 for a round trip for all of us. We went to the Oak Bluff dock. It really doesn't matter which boat you get on if you decide on vineyard Haven boat once you get onto MV buses go back and forth to Oak Bluff. Enjoy the views from the boat. Good Times!! read more

This is entry way into Martha's Vineyard. We missed the last ferry, at 9:45 pm. We waited for the 1st ferry out, 6:15 a.m. The Steamship, especially the opening manager, is knowledge about things to do. The ferries have Snack Foods available on board - a little expensive - but convenience is what you're paying for. One suggestion for ferry owners: the expectation was that your ferries would be spotless, including the bathrooms at the wait area and on the ferries. read more

I hate it when I catch a ferry in woods hole and it's Oak Bluffs bound. It just takes longer to get to Aquinnah and you have to have the person you're picking up deal with OB traffic. That being said, it's definitely necessary in peak season to have two harbors, so I can't really complain. This location does not boast the grandiose terminal that VH and WH do... but it does have a nice long dock over water that is a nice beginning (or end) to your time on the Vineyard. read more

This is an economical way to travel to Martha's Vineyard. It cost $34 for 2 adult round trip tickets. If you do not plan on taking your car, you must park 4 miles down the road and take a free shuttle to the dock. It was pretty easy. Just allow yourself enough time. The ferry itself was not that impressive. It seemed outdated and dirty. It reminded me of a greyhound bus, but with chili dogs. I encountered 4 employees on my trip and 3 of them were rude. The kitchen/snack cart folks were very eerily detached from conversation (i.e. Placing an ordering and paying). It was like I traveled back in time, and visiting an old semi-abandoned diner in the middle of nowhere. And everyone in town were being controlled by an extraterrestrial source. BUT, if you desire fast and cheap, then take this ferry. I recommend for future travels. read more

Although they generally were great at the ticket sales office right at the harbor at oaks bluff there check person checking our tickets was pretty rude. After we walked with lots of my senior aged father and mother with there bags in tow.m, the guy checking out tickets basically yelled at me and my family for not using carts to bring the luggage down. As this was my first time I didn't know they offered then and was really unhappy that he would Be so angry. I wasn't offered a cart at the ticketing window so why would I now need someone shouting at my like I'm an idiot. No person should be in a customer service position with that atttitude. read more

We had a ticket but for some reason we were the last car on the ferry (even though we were in line a half hour before departure). But, you still got us on the boat and that's all that matters! Not a year round terminal. Not accessible to any park and ride. And if your a walk off passenger you exit out of door 3 not 4. Choppy water will cause this slip to close.. Boats re directed to vh. Nice flowers displayed on the season. Have your reservation document printed ( many people are seasonal and are still learning ).. Or they will make you go in and print you a ticket. read more

Also on the Oak Bluffs side, they have a great public restroom that you can use if you are at that end of Circuit Ave near the Flying Horses. Just know that if you if you are on a Cargo ship, there's no view or snack bar. Free Wi-Fi on all ships though, which is a plus. read more

took the ferry from woods hole to oak bluffs. firs boat going that way of the day. it ran a bit behind. was due to get in at 10:15 but it had to be 10:30 if not later by the time we docked. I love how they have tables, booths, individuals comfy seats, etc. lots of places and different set ups to choose for seating. sat outside up top for most of the ride. the bathrooms were clean too. used the bathrooms at the dock as well and they were great. pretty clean. read more
