And it was exactly what we needed after a not insignificant amount of walking around Vancouver (we were touristing) and it was lunch time. Stanley Park Brewing is larger inside than it appears outside. With its outdoor seating and multiple public and private dining rooms its footprint is roughly the size of Rhode Island. (ok, maybe not THAT big...but it is expansive). Stanley Park Brewing is located not far from the entrance to Stanley Park so the views and the surroundings were all very beautiful. A tall clump of trees over here, a some flowering bushes over there...just lush greenery in every direction...and tennis courts. The entire area was clean and well maintained. When we arrived we were told there would be about a 15 (US) minute wait, but that 15 (US) minutes turned into about 5, as we were seated almost immediately at a table adjacent to the bar. The weather was amazing that day (about 72° F) so all the doors and windows were open so there was plenty of fresh air and a nice breeze. Our server arrived with cold water (muchly needed!) and gave us the beer and food menus. Congo and I opted for a flight of beers and the Smokey Island pizza because the maple candied bacon bits, charred pineapple, and jalapeño caught my attention. (Relax, people, it was personal pan pizza size.) For my flight of four I chose: SunSetter Peach Wheat Ale, Waypoint Hazy Pale Ale, Parklandia Hazy IPA, and Noble Pilsner. Each was very good with its own unique tastes and flavour palettes. Our food orders took about 15 minutes to arrive and the food was hot and accurate. The Smokey Island pizza was *Chef's Kiss*, while the SunSetter Peach Wheat Ale from my flight was so good I had to get a pint as well. Our server (Jordan) who was also the bartender. Jordan was knowledgeable about the beers and was able to answer any questions about menu without having to consult someone else. He also suggested the Smokey Island pizza, and for that alone he and I can be good friends. The entire staff was constantly in motion, whether sitting new guests, handling drink refills, cleaning tables, or anything else. Great teamwork all around. What started as a chance visit turned into one of our favorite lunch stops in Vancouver. Congo and I thank you.

The food here is your typical bar food, albeit slightly higher quality. One of my friends is from Edmonton, where this restaurant is originally based, and recommended me the chicken and waffles. It was decent, although there was a lot of waffle and not a lot of chicken. A bit unfortunate since I found the chicken pieces to be very juicy. The signature hot sauce had a nice kick to it, but not too overpowering. Service was excellent here. Lots of beer options too, however I didn't end up having any this time as I had to ensure I was alert the rest of the day. Overall not a bad place, I wouldn't say no to coming back here.

The first time we came for happy hour, we found the service to be pretty good and the value was great as well. I got the pho bo for $14.25 which was a good portion, although the taste was not super authentic. The $5 nada colada was delicious too. The food is average, maybe 3 stars. The second time, we sat down around 10 pm. The waitress came by and seemed to rush us to order, but we told her we needed a few more minutes. By the time we ordered, it was after 10 pm for sure, I remember looking at the time and it was 10:05 pm. However, when she brought us the bill at the end of our meal, our entire bill was listed with regular prices, not happy hour. When we politely brought this to her attention, she argued that we ordered before 10 pm, but of course that was not the case. The bill even had the timestamp of 10:09 pm, which we pointed out and the waitress said that was when she "printed" the bill. That makes no sense? Anyway, upon our insistence of ordering after 10 pm, she went back and re-did our bill without an apology. After paying the bill, we sat around chatting for some time. Then, when we left, a second waitress chased half our group outside the restaurant and accused us of not paying our bill. My friends went back in with her, where she checked her till and of course could see proof of payment. Again, there was no apology for the mix up or accusation. These 2 incidents really ended our night on a sour note. I understand that mix ups can happen, but at the bare minimum, an apology is warranted. The atmosphere is casual and loud, good for larger groups. However, after my last experience there, I would hesitate to recommend any of my friends to go. It is a shame as they are one of the only places open that late on a weekday and in the area for a lot of us. The only reason they aren't at 1 star is because the food is okay for the happy hour price. Also, for some reason, the second time I got their nada colada, it didn't taste as good, so I don't think they are consistent. But that is really minor in comparison to the other issues we experienced.
