This place is equal parts charming and nostalgic. The restaurant is clean, well decorated, and inviting. There are several tables to sit at and small counter as well. The smash burgers are made fresh and come on a perfectly toasted potato bun. The onion rings were well seasoned, thick, and crispy. I impulsively ordered dessert to go and I am so glad I did. The warm spiced cake with the dulce de leche filling and vanilla ice cream was so comforting and flavorful. There were daily specials and Tuesdays are family day. Great family owned business. We decided to give this place a try a few months back. We were there on "family day" with their hamburger/cheeseburger specials. The burgers were really tasty, the tomatoes and lettuce were fresh. The French fries were well-cooked and they had the malt vinegar that we both prefer, although they did have ketchup in case. During our second visit, we tried the deep fried breaded Brussels sprouts, way better than what we expected. The waitress is part of the family is personable and professional. Since then, this has become a regular outing for us...best burgers, particularly for the price. The only other burger I could compare them to is another restaurant where the burgers are maybe slightly better, but at almost 3 times the cost! For those who haven't been there, if you want a relaxed, down-home throw-back family restaurant, this is a really good choice. We had been wanting to try this place for awhile and finally checked it out! Unassuming exterior and interior but clean and neat! Our server was excellent - let us know ahead of time there would be a wait for the food (they had a large party come in before us), checked on us often and was very helpful, friendly and accommodating. We had fried mushrooms for appetizer - really good, lightly battered and very juicy. Hubs and I both had the cheeseburger and it was amazing - a good "old-timey" burger on a yummy potato bun. I added grilled onions to mine - so good. We split an order of fries and an order of onion rings - loved the crispy onion rings (good onion flavor, not just batter!)! Probably wouldn't order the fries again - maybe a little overcooked and not crispy at all. So I first went to this place when it opened. I was excited about a new burger place, and they advertised an "Angus smashburger" so I was hoping for a great new eating venue. I was promptly bummed. Even though I placed the order over the phone about 20 minutes before arriving, I still had to sit and wait about another 10 minutes which may not seem like a lot, but I was on my way to work and still had to drive another 15 minutes to get there. But, ok, I got my order and rushed to work. I have the luxury of not having to wait for a lunch break to eat, so I dug in right away. The fried mushrooms were ok; small button mushrooms in a thin batter. The cheeseburger was ok. It's wasn't a smashburger in the true sense of the word; just a small flat patty. And the fries were ok; overly cooked and not crisp or seasoned. But, I thought, well, they just opened so maybe they're just working through those opening issues... I thought I would wait a few months and go back. I was craving a burger and the husby suggested the restaurant. I thought, why not? I'd give it another chance. Things have not improved. What to expect: 1. A long wait. There's a single cook and according to the waitress they have a "very small grill" on which to prepare everything. There were two other parties that had been seated when we came in (a family of six and a party of three). They didn't have their food, so we had to wait until they had all been served. We waited about 30 minutes for our food. Someone that called in their order came and sat for about 10 minutes waiting on their meal. There's a single waitress, and she kept disappearing while people waited on drinks, service at the ice cream counter, etc. 2. Still not a smash burger. The patty was just small and thin without the crisp edges and flavor you expect. The bun was either stale to begin with or had been in the warmer for too long because it was hard. At least the toppings seemed fresh. Husby opted for the special of the day, the patty melt, but he said there was nothing to it; again a small patty with some grilled onions and maybe pickles? 3. Fries and onion rings were very brown. Either they were overly done or the oil really needs to be changed. 4. Not much in terms of decor or ambience. I really would like to support this small business, but at the moment I don't know that I will come back for a third try. read more

This is the best restaurant hamburger I think I have ever had. Better than home made. The lady who takes the orders and serves the customers is always pleasant and unruffled. The gentleman who cooks gets it right every time. We live in Halifax Plantation and every time we go into Ormond Beach proper, we get a burger. Just can't pass them up. Great new little Hamburger joint, which opened just two months ago. Hand cut fries and Angus Burgers on the menu. We just cooked out burgers last night, so we all went for the Philly Cheese Steak. Boy, were we impressed. The bun was just right, and the meat was tender and tasty. The mushrooms were a nice compliment as well. We passed on the fries and instead went with the onion rings. They were delicious. Not on my diet, but still delicious. The decor is old, 1950s type burger joint. They had an old jukebox, which came out of a restaurant in Daytona years ago. The songs are free. All you have to do is just punch in the numbers, and you are transported back to a bygone Era. The owner is the cook, and you can tell he takes pride in his work. I've been driving past 'Steer In Burgers' for quite a while now, and finally decided I would give it a try. It was about 3:00 on a Tuesday afternoon, and I was the only customer. I mentioned to the server (Katy) that this was my first time, and she told me a little bit about the place (fresh beef, hand-formed 1/4 lb patties, owner 'Dave' is also the cook). I ordered the double cheeseburger ('smashburger') with a side of onion rings and a drink. While I waited I chatted with Katy and another employee, Andie. My food was served less than 10 minutes later, and it was fresh and hot off the grill. I had to wait about 3 minutes for the huge pile of onion rings to cool down, so I went to work on the burger - it was also huge! It sure seemed like more than the 1/2 lb of meat I was expecting, and I was quite full and satisfied when I was finished. The meat also had a lot more flavor than what I'm used to getting at McD's or BK.
