Great food, friendly staff, and attractive atmosphere. Nate and I biked here from Key West on an East coast bike ride. In fact, Steffens donated a breakfast to our ride. We locked our bikes outside, came into the warm welcome of waitress; smiling and guiding us to our booth. A southern Georgia staple that has been serving meals to the community since the 40s. Highly recommended and if I'm ever back in that neck of the woods, you bet I'll eat there again. read more

Great atmosphere and I loved the local feel, but that is relative to you. Driving to Savannah from Bradenton and yelped looking for a lunch place- this popped up. Only about 7 minutes from freeway exit. Parking lot was very full at 11:45. We nailed 2 empty seats at the lunch counter. It was very busy but the waitresses were running their tails off and doing their best to take care of every one. And the food was so worth the short wait! The chicken and waffles were out of this world- juicy and non- greasy boneless white meat chicken on fresh perfectly browned waffles. Husband got the meat lovers omelet with cheddar and it was great as well- the sausage in it had to be house made or at least local. Cornbread and biscuits were gratis but honestly not much room for them! Non sweet iced tea was very good. So glad we found this place! Only problem is I'm not going to be able to order chicken and waffles for the rest of this trip- it can't possibly compare. No photos- sorry- but it looked exactly like the other photo here with the powdered sugar on top. Just get it!!! read more

If traveling on 95 near Kingsland Ga this place is worth the stop. Right on US 17 is a diner style restaurant with some of the best home cooked food you will have to eat. They are open for breakfast lunch and dinner with breakfast served all day. The jumbo shrimp are local and huge. True southern comfort food at this place. Give it a try. I was out of town and used Yelp to pick a nearby restaurant for dinner. Steffens was close and the menu pics looked appetizing. I appreciated that it was open as late as 9 PM. I called in and ordered the Bourbon Chicken with macaroni and cheese, turnip greens, cornbread, and unsweet tea. The plate came with two thin sliced chicken breasts and plentiful proportion sides, so there was enough to actually share. I liked the way the chicken tasted as well as the sides. The Mac-n-cheese was excellent. The first thing I noticed when arriving was the vintage look, which carried over indoors. The place was quaint but had plenty of room. I liked that they also offered hand dipped ice cream and drove off into the sunset eating a cone full of butter pecan. read more

Steffens is always a great option! If you want home made southern cooking, this is the place to go! I hear frequently that it's not the "cleanest of places" but in my opinion, it's just fine. I ordered food and I went to pick it up by 8:45pm they were out of white gravy so when I came in and spoke to the women at the register the girl with a long braid and nose piercing was talking in the back with a tone saying "there's no white gravy and it'll take 45mins to make so no there is none" and then I asked if I could change out the buiscut order for something else since there wasn't any (mind you I wasn't upset just wanted to resolve it) and I don't think she understood and then said to the girl at the register "well what does she want there isn't anything on the menu for $4.75 but that" in a rude tone as well. Stopped here for curbside pickup on road trip. Placed order online, which was very convenient. The online ordering was very thorough which was great, however the restaurant made several omissions. The food was only fair. The chicken and rice soup was covered in a layer of oil rendering it inedible. The green beans were mush. Still an icon of Kingsland Rt 17 and was before 95 was built. Never had a bad meal there and lived here almost 30 years. Any meal you will leave stuffed like you had a Thanksgiving at Granny's. They have done well keeping the old favorite southern dishes but are also bringing some more upscale dishes to the menu. Skip the Cracker Barrel it's nothing but a corporate cafeteria. We were on our way home on I-95 and didn't want fast food. This place is an extra few minutes off the highway but worth it. My husband had the special, shepherd's pie and I had the hamburger steak. I really don't know what I was thinking, but wow!....why has it taken me so long to give this place a try? We've lived in the area for 7 years now and made our first stop here the other day for breakfast and it WON'T be our last. Every time we drive by, the parking lot is full (a good sign) and on this day we had the time, so we took our chances. One drawback is the parking, it's kinda like....just wherever you can find a space to fit in. We were surprised to find a couple of empty tables, but that changed by the time we left with folks standing at the door waiting. 3 egg omlet, bacon, grits and toast... man! The Mrs. had sausage gravy and biscuits, she loved it. Service was fast, friendly, spot on efficient and seemed genuinely glad to have you there. The interior is a diner design and layout and it showing its age but so what. We will be back and if you're in the area, take a chance like we did. read more
