Steffens is the real deal. I drove from Amelia Island for the southern delicacies and was not disappointed. Chicken and dumplings were the day's special and that most comfortable of comfort foods filled me up. Of course I can't forget to mention the mac and cheese, collard greens bc Georgia, a biscuit AND cornbread. Heck yes! My questions were all answered by the friendly server who happened to be behind the counter when I sat down. I wasn't in her station, but she was extremely helpful and took her time with me, even coming back later to make sure her recommendations worked out. There's a big menu with breakfast available all day. It's cute and clean, a classic diner vibe, and the prices are very affordable. Thanks for the southern hospitality!

Hole in the wall spot, but don't judge a book by its cover! Some of the best southern cooking you'll ever experience here; the fried green tomatoes and mac and cheese were to die for. Turkey club was great also. Definitely come hungry! Great spot!

Fun, nostalgic 50's diner brings fresh local ingredients to breakfast offerings. An unassuming spot in rural southern Georgia was a great surprise. Clean, friendly and great food in a walk back in time. Locals know this spot well and for breakfast lovers, this place doesn't disappoint. We arrived at 9:30 on a Wednesday and it was packed shortly thereafter. Great spot for a lovely morning drive near St. Mary's river, farm land and wetlands.

A hidden gem that serves fresh comfort food at fair prices. Their fried chicken was 5 stars as well as the biscuits and gravy. Mashed potatoes with brown gravy was my personal favorite along with their Turkey club. Great service and comfortable nostalgic setting.

Here's the scoop! We're headed home on I-95 and we needed to have breakfast. Our biggest problem is finding a restaurant that has parking for our 30 ft RV. So I let my Yelp App guide me to this old fashioned adorable southern restaurant. The place was packed to the gills'. All of the help were so nice, from the greeter, to the man who cleaned off a table for us, to the young lady that gave us menus and coffee and finally to our server Brittany! She took our orders, refilled our coffee cups, got Dave ice water and hot sauce! I ordered the western omelet which was loaded with ham and fresh veggies. I had cheese grits that were super creamy and cheesy, and an English muffin that Dave devoured. Even that tasted delish, maybe buttered and fried? Sometimes it pays to go off the beaten path to the road unknown! Best part was that I shared my breakfast with my little girl Freckles!

Traveling I-95 south in a Class C This "find" was a welcome alternative to highway fast fare. Just 3 miles to BETTER! Hospitality, ambience, food, affordability, menu variety and good service. On a Sunday at 10am it was packed. The hostess had us seated after a short wait and the manager cleaned the tables. Coffee (good) immediately! Brittany showed up quickly and orders placed. 7 minutes wait time with a full house- real good. My scrambled eggs were just right. My wife Judy's omelette was over sized. Not jealous but I will remember next time we purposely return. Bacon was crispy and the cheesy grits outstanding. $29.16 + tip. An Off-95 bargain.

Steamers were good size but only 5 for $13. Fried clams were tiniest I've ever had. Coleslaw is good.

We found Steffens when we looked on Google Maps for a place to eat. They are off the beaten path that we normally travel but oh so worth the find. When we pulled up you knew how good they much be the parking lot was packed and this was just a Monday about 12:30 pm. We found a place to park and went inside, we waited about 10 minutes to be seated, so worth it. Busy busy place. Our waitress came and took our drink orders as we still wanted to decide from the menu, she came back and we ordered. My daughter and I got liver and onions, she got the greens and macaroni and cheese and I got mashed potatoes and creamed corn. The mashed potatoes are real and the creamed corn is homemade. All of it was oh so good. He got biscuits and gravy and pancakes, they tasted like grandmas house. Everything was oh so good. The waitress was amazing kept our glasses full and came by often to see if we needed anything. Portions are not small which made him happy. Inside the restaurant are many old picture's and lots to see just an overall great experience. This was our first time there and we will be back.

Stopped here for breakfast on our way home from Cumberland Island. We had to put our name in but the wait wasn't too bad. Everything we ate was great!

I am traveling within reasonable distances of my home to experience the flavors. For example, one establishment provided a Flight of 3 menu items before committing to eating one, which was enjoyable; however, their shepherd's pie was prepared with sweetness/sweetened rather than savory flavors, which didn't bode well for me. Today's adventurous goal was to experience "bangers and mash," as there appear to be a couple of variations of this dish made with either Guinness, Port wine, or beef stock. When typing Bangers and Mash into Yelp and Google Maps, this establishment was an option for consideration. I verified that the item was on the menu and read the reviews. Upon our arrival, we were greeted well and seated forthwith. We started to place our orders when I noticed that the food item I was seeking wasn't on the menu. When I inquired about the Bangers and Mash, I was told it was no longer available. Disappointed, I opted for the Shepherd's pie. While I couldn't obtain the item I hoped for, the experience wasn't bad. The shepherd's pie was well-made and presented well; a large portion is served in an individual cast-iron pan. The flavor profiles were quite good, very savory and rich. The flavor spectrum touched all of the sensory elements. I found it quite enjoyable. My journey continues.

Looking from the parking lot I wasn't sure, but once I entered the premises I knew the place would at least be a fun experience. They have indoor and outdoor dining, a stage , a fountain to wash hands after some awesome tasting BBQ. That is saying a lot for me, who isn't the biggest fan of BBQ. ( I was hoping for fried liver, but was wowed by the great meal I chose!) I had the Holy Trinity, which had amazing Boston butt with baked beans and coleslaw. My side was southern comfort food: collard greens. The Boston butt was aromatic with the smoking that was done to it & tender. It had no need for any additional BBQ sauce as the baked beans added wonderful flavor topped with the crunchiness of a creamy coleslaw! Heaven in your mouth! The collard greens were a perfect addition. What I loved about the greens is they had some smoky (bacon) taste but it wasn't overpowering and salty like I've had at some places. It was just right and the perfect side to the meal. I found the portion just right for the weary traveler I was that day. The waitress was efficient and helpful in making a decision as to what to get. The ambiance was rustic country with families coming in for their dinners. The fountain they use for washing hands was a cute touch. And I even got to enjoy some live music before I left on a weeknight no less! And by the way the music was enjoyable as it wasn't blasting but added to the quaint ambience this place offers its customers. A definite need to go back there!

It's a local hangout, kind of shabby, with none of the polish of Seagles, which, because it looks nice and it's closer to the waterfront is where the tourists tend to go. After being assured by my waitress that the crab cakes indeed have lots of crab and are "really amazing" that's what I got. It comes with three sides so I chose fries, hush puppies, and fried okra. Served with a lemon wedge, remoulade, and a cute little lettuce garnish on the side, too small to be called a salad. They were pretty good; I've had far worse and I've had better. A decent amount of crab, nicely browned, held together well, but more Old Bay than I'd like. Good portion size. I wasn't disappointed. A bottle of hot sauce was offered, not the usual brand. The fries were the spicy battered type, probably not made in house but were good. Hush puppies crunchy and not greasy, sweet, excellent. Fried okra? I guess good if you like okra. I always have to try it when offered and reach the same conclusion: it's only meant for thickening gumbo. I sat outside on the back patio with a view of the bar. What entertainment! A loud animated conversation between one local "Jimmy" and two of his friends carried on the entire time I was there. I don't know what they were talking about, the topic seemed to change from minute to minute - and sometimes in mid-sentence. Liberally peppered with words and phrases narrow-minded people consider vulgar. I was so amused. At one point Jimmy noticed they weren't alone and shouted out to the room (just me and one other party of 2) "Sorry about my language, I hope none of y'all are from a church group or nothin." I just kind of grinned and told him to carry on. On the way out I asked at the front desk, remarked that Jimmy was hilarious and asked if he was a regular. Indeed he was, and there's a "Beware of Jimmy" sign hanging over the bar in his honor! Mostly national beer brands at the bar, but also two Georgia beers on tap. I asked about cider and they had one: an Angry Orchard from New York. That's really terrible cider but I got one anyway. I wasn't in the mood for a cocktail and I don't like beer. My waitress was wonderful. She had good advice on the food, checked on me frequently, and always called me by endearments, switching between "baby", "honey", and "darling". I tipped her $10 on a $25 meal. What can I say? I'm a sucker for Southern charm.
