The Hawthorne California store is the location where my family shops. I recently bought 2 pair of glasses - prescription and progressive lenses - and they are perfect. Same order only sunglass dark. I bought frames for each pair. I went in with my prescription and my glasses were ready within a week. My total was less than $400! The sales staff is exceptional. They are all patient, knowledgeable and have years of experience. A special shout out to Jazz who went above and beyond. Arlen, the manager understood my situation quickly and took care of us personally. I can't say enough about Costco's quality, selection and prices - but most of all their people. They're optical is the only place I can afford eyeglasses, great prices, great people. But...,, They don't send orders in when you make them. I just was told that the order I placed on a Monday wasn't sent out until Thursday. If you need eyewear within a month don't count on them. I would think that, with the volume of businesses they do, they would be sent out daily. Who knew? read more

Would love to give more stars than 5! Dr. Roxanne Gurrola is absolutely fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable and also very attentive and kind. Went in because I had floaters and flashes of light in my peripheral vision in my left eye, which was rather scary. Had a complete eye exam including dilating the eye, and Dr. Gurrola explained why I was having the flashes and wasn't in any immediate danger of a torn retina which was great to hear. A week or two later, I felt my eye was getting worse, so I made an appt at Doheny Eye Center in Pasadena. I called the Burbank Optical Dept and they sent over my doctor notes from 3 weeks prior. The doctor dilated both of my eyes and checked them. He told me, in almost the exact same words as Dr. Gurrola, that at this point my eyes were fine and that Dr. Gurrola's exam was very good. He was VERY impressed. Today, I went back to Costco because yesterday, my RIGHT eye started with the flashes of light and floaters! UGH. Luckily, Dr. Gurrola took me in within the hour, checked my right eye and once again, I was fortunate to hear that it looks fine. I cannot recommend the staff and this doctor enough! They reassured me that I can call anytime with any concerns. Wish all health care professionals were this good! read more

Went in today to grab some weekly groceries but also took my future father-in-law to drop off his prescription and get some new glasses. They have a great selection to begin with and he found a pair of stylish Ray-Bans he really liked that were priced surprisingly cheaper than expected. We had the please of being attended by an associate by the name of Yulisa and she was just wonderful in helping us with our concerns and superbly knowledgeable. She was patient, engaging and just a shining example of what top-tier customer service should be. read more

I've been buying glasses and having my lenses updated annually here for several years. Last year I found frames I liked better at LensCrafters so I skipped my 2022 update at Costco. Last week I received my glasses back from Costco optical with my updated prescription for 2023. I wore them for a week but noticed that they were perpetually dirty on the inside corners of the lenses (the side closest to my nose. No matter how often I cleaned them there was a smudgy spot. Then I started to panic, thinking I had scratched my brand new lenses. It wasn't until I put on my old glasses to look at my new glasses that I saw it wasn't dirt or a scratch. It was very clearly a machine etched circle along with some numbers. I googled it. Not a lot of information but apparently it's the prescription information telling the machine how to craft the lens. I brought the glasses into the store, along with 4 other pair that they had made the lenses for. Initially I was told that this is completely normal. So I brought out the 4 other glasses and asked them to show me where these marking were on the other glasses. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE MARKINGS! Then the story became that this is newer technology, an upgrade. Laughable. They called the factory to see what could be done. A 30 second phone call. I was told they could send my glasses back to the factory to SEE if they could make it less noticeable. No guarantees. Livid, I got my refund and left. Under no circumstances will I ever return to Costco for my optical needs. read more

The reason for it is, not only the quality in products they carry but also the service I receive from employees like Raquel in optical department. Raquel is truly professional, knowledgeable, polite, accommodating and knows how to listen to you. She has a unique and gentle way of handling clients and their situation. For many years I got my glasses at this location, the staff always are willing to help, but on Thursday I got the worst experience ever not only the Asian associate were so rude with me when asked him to check for my insurance benefits but lying in regards this matter he was repeating the same argument over and over I asked him why he was treating me like that on top of that he refuses to print the information for me, fortunately another associate noticed the bad situation and took over to help me out. she did her job. I've been going to this particular location for over 10 years. It's odd to hear others having a bad experience. Every year, I have an exam there, then wait my turn to either order new contacts or new frames. I've purchased with insurance and some years without, but I always got a great price through costco membership. Treat the staff with respect. They are the expert here, not you. Each one of them is very knowledgeable. They wouldn't be working there if they didn't know what to do. Trust me, you will get great service by being respectful. Today, while waiting for my exam, I took a number and waited just to ask a question. I was given the answer and said that I would return later in the day to make my order. I returned 2 hours later and was helped by a staff member I had not seen in previous years. He was kind, thoughtful and finished my order quickly and efficiently. Maybe it's because I have been through the ordering process many times before that my experience was great. Ordered contacts over the phone was told to not pull a number but rather tell any employee I'm here for a pickup. I show up, didn't get a number, & not a single person acknowledges me including the ones not working. I've always taken issue with Costco optical because this is the land where time stays still, slowest workers on the planet. So I stand there starring at a employee named Alber waiting for him to acknowledge me "be right with you sir." Nothing. Walk over to an Asian employee in a lab coat, asked where I needed to be to which he said "the sign right in front of you." I replied in a very rude manner "what!?" The employee immediately acted nicely "oh just wait there someone will come ". 15 mins later, several number have been called finally someone helps me. Alber & Asian lab coat should be fired. I just had a second eye exam from Ani Grigoryan, OD who is with Michael Khoury's office inside Burbank Costco. She is amazing! I have always hated eye exams in the past, and would have rather had a root canal. Dr. Grigoryan made it so easy. She is professional, thorough and ever so patient; she answered all my questions and explained things in detail. I really felt comfortable both times I was seen by her. I definitely recommend her services; you won't be disappointed. And the optometric assistants were also friendly and knowledgeable as well. read more

The best... I often buy frames ( elsewhere but also from Costco) and ask Costco to put the prescription lenses in. Glasses are an accessory for me, so I'm a frequent customer. Sal is my #1 guy, but all the staff is great, always helpful and happy, and if something goes wrong with your glasses, they do whatever it takes to make it right. In a time when so many stores are closing, I really need Costco to stay open forever! read more

I guess you could say this is part two of my worst nightmare story. Part one is with Dr. Khoury and associates inside Costco. My glasses broke and I needed a new pair terribly. I was in and out of the optometrist and I was shocked at how short the wait was for the optical center on a Friday afternoon at 4:30. Usually you should pull a number right when you get called in for your eye exam, but I was able to pull my number after my appointment and my wait was only about 15 minutes. In that time I was able to pick a couple pairs of glasses. The entire process was probably about 30 minutes total. The man that helped me order my glasses did a great job. I am shocked at how painless this trip to the optical center was because I've had a few times where it was just unbearably long. They have great prices here though and I've only ever gotten my glasses from them. Just make sure you get at least two pair of glasses so you have a backup. read more

I had never had my eyes checked until I walked into Costco a couple weeks ago. I was in and out in probably 20 mins. The dr was very nice and didn't talk to me like I was stupid for not getting my eyes checked earlier, even though I was stupid for not getting them looked at cause my eyes are down bad without glasses. Prescription glasses showed up (from another place online) and the prescription was spot on. Life is much better now thanks to Dr. Grigoryan. read more

Always slow not because there are soooo many people but because the staff since I have been coming here for 10 years is not professional. Here they are at their favorite spot, "fixing the glasses" where they heat up the glasses to mold them to the persons needs. They take 3times longer at this spot than any optical I have ever been to and when their co worker isn't at that station it takes way less time, why you may ask? Well this "fixing" is the time they take for a social break. They share stories and gossip all in the days work, making the waiting experience long and frustrating for us all to watch and wait. *****DO NOT GO TO THIS OPTOMETRIST***** I messed up.... I should have read the reviews for the Costco in Burbank optometrist before going... Afrouz Alai was the tech that conducted the eye exam and wow was she terrible.... No customer service skills whatsoever! First, she doesn't bother to properly place the eye lens machine up to my face so I have to face slightly upwards in order to reach the chin placement which automatically throws everything off... She eventually notices that I'm not able to correctly see through the machine and tells me that I shouldn't raise my head like that because we will not get the correct results. That's when I told her, "I wouldn't have to tilt my head upwards if the machine aligned with my head! Throughout the process this woman seemed frustrated and as if she just didn't want to be there. The over all experience with this eye tech was just terrible.... I don't even trust the prescription she gave me.... Now on to paying for the terrible exam. The ladies at the front desk knew we had insurance but proceeded to charge me the full price! Note that at no point did she even say how much my total would be she just took my card and swiped it... When I questioned why the total was so high she told me because that's their price. I then asked her how much my insurance covers and they told my wife our co-pay would be $15 each and it was at this point that they decided to look at my file and noticed that we had insurance and they had already previously confirmed our policy... Considering that others on here have stated they have been over charged even though they have insurance leads me to believe this place is just ripping everyone off. It's when they get caught that they back pedal apologize and do the whole sing and dance thing... I strongly suggest you go elsewhere for your eye exam needs. I didn't even bother to get my glasses from Costco because of how terrible my experience was which is messed up to say because I actually see great reviews for their eye glasses store. At the end it all comes down to bad management. Whomever is running this optometrist needs to be removed as all the employees inside that little office seem to be doing a lousy job.... read more

My 85 years old mom had an eye exam at this lab on March 29. She was told by doctor Afrouz Alai that her left eye has too high pressure, and we need to go to an emergency to Olive View Medical Center. Scared by her we went immediately. After waiting for 5 hours out there we got her pressure measured and it was almost normal. 5 HOURS!!! Let alone how scared we were! I wish I could put no stars at all. Be aware. read more

The associate I spoke with gave me an explanation of the size requirements for progressive lenses and SPECIFIC numbers for me to reference in my search elsewhere for appropriate frames. I am so thankful for coming here for my mom's eye exam. Doctor was very knowledgeable. She patiently answered to my mom's questions and explained advantages and disadvantages of the bifocals that we had to order. We paid $270, but the quality of it was incredible. I didn't want to review my optometrist because I didn't want him to get too popular and I wouldn't be able to see him. However, now I see that is not going to happen. Dr. Khoury is a fantastic optometrist and I'm so lucky that I can schedule appointments with him in this convenient location. At this time, Dr. Khoury is not seeing patients on the weekend, but you can still see one of his associates on the weekend in Costco. It won't be Dr Khoury, but someone nearly as good. My eye exams are thorough and although there are not a lot of good choices in eyewear, the glasses that I bought here are sturdy. The only thing I can complain about is the wait to get my glasses (about 2 weeks). They do call when the glasses are ready, but the prices are reasonable and my prescription is always perfect.
