I had a very disappointing experience with this doctor. I originally visited for a simple annual vision exam so I could renew my contact lens prescription. Instead of providing a straightforward exam and prescription, I felt pressured into purchasing specific products and add-on services that I didn't need. After completing the trial period, I returned to request my prescription, but again she refused to add the vision test without mentioning the specific brands that she worked with. I have been going to Dr. Garibyan for a while now for my eye exams (since 2019), after a friend of mine referred me to her. Dr. Garibyan is honest and very knowledgeable but most of all, caring! She offers a very thorough eye exam and I love that she uses a retinal scanner so that she can go over with me, in detail the overall health of my eye and it's very informative. She makes getting an eye exam very fun and answers any and all questions thoroughly, which I appreciate. She never makes me feel rushed; she will take her time making sure every aspect of the exam is carefully done. Price gouging: Following my standard annual eye exam (no-copay, was a prescription change) I wanted to get a prescription for contact lenses. I last had contacts 25yrs back prior to Lasik. I was told I would require the "Premium" ($100 co-pay) fitting vs. the "Standard" ($40 co-pay) because: - I'm a new patient - I had lazik 25yrs ago (but no scarring). Spoke to 2 other optometry offices and they said are absolutely not logical/legitimate reasons for bumping up to the "Premium" fitting (eyes are healthy otherwise). I cannot go elsewhere because any other office wants to do the base eye exam (and insurance only covers once annually). I called the office twice asking Dr. Garibyan to call me and explain - she did not, but instead took that time to write a letter stating she stands by her assessment - wow, what personable service. read more

Dr. Garibyan and her staff are all kinds of wonderful! I've been going to her for about three years now and have been referring friends and family to her as well. The front desk staff is very helpful and answer all my questions. Dealing with insurance companies is always tricky, but Daisy and Narineh do a great job keeping me informed. The facility is quaint and clean (the machines are up to date). Dr. Garibyan always takes her time to throughly check the health of my eyes and any concerns I may have. For someone like myself who has been wearing glasses since the early 2000's and contacts for over 8 years it's nice to know that this facility is always offering the new advances in eye care. I stopped by this OD about a month ago to get my new glasses adjusted and hopefully find a new OD since I am new to the area. I had saved up to buy a nice pair of designer frames but they were delivered after I moved to Burbank so I was unable to get them adjusted by the OD where I purchased them (East Bay Eye Specialists in Oakland, CA - best eye care I have EVER had). While the ladies working here were very friendly, I was very dissatisfied with the services I received. The lady who adjusted my glasses took me to the back of the store where I sat on a small stool in a hallway cluttered with boxes while she bent over in front of me to inspect how my glasses fit my face. Every other time I have had glasses adjusted, the doctor has sat directly across from me at eye level to insure the glasses line up on my face correctly. I believe this is the reason that I am currently so dissatisfied with the fit of my glasses. She completely warped my one side of my frames to where they have a large kink around the earpiece, but I don't know why she did this because the notch created by the bends does not even lay on or fold around my ear the way you would expect it to. I also realized that these glasses are now giving me headaches (bad fit) so I have switched back to my old glasses while I find another OD to visit. I don't like to leave bad reviews, but I was very dissatisfied with the services I received here and will not be back. read more

Dr. Garibyan has been my family optomoterist for years. She is very knowledgeable in all things eye related. She and her staff are extremely professional and accommodating. They are very good about discussing details with you and making you are aware of your coverage, copays, etc. She is also very good with children. I have taken my kids in on numerous occasions and have been very satisfied with the care they received. When I made my appointment I was not told that I would have 3 choices to dilate my eyes. 1) $39 method, 2) eye drop method which is free with my insurance if done the day of the exam but will leave me with blurry vision and unable to return to work , or 3) eye drop method on a different day of the exam which would also be $39. Or, I could chose not to have my eyes dilated at all. None of these options work for me and they could not assure me, before starting my exam with the Dr, that they'd waive the fee if I came back another time so I walked out and didn't let them begin the exam. I should have been told about this policy at the time I made my apt or at the very least when I confirmed my apt. I will not be returning to this Dr. They lost my business and my husband's business due to this. read more

BEWARE is the first word that comes to my mind after my experience with this optometrist!! Do not go by the outer sweetness or concern displayed for you. Be VERY AWARE of how she explains to you her costs and of the seemingly unobvious ploys that might be employed to extract more from your pocket that is necessary, right or fair. To me, Dr. Melanya Garibyan represents much of why health has literally become an 'industry' and things seems so increasingly doomed for patients in America. Doing this review has always been at the back of my mind; I am glad I could finally sit down to it today. I took an appointment Dec, 2014 to get my eyes tested due to a medical condition, clearly stating so. Dilation is a routine part of eye checkups. However, after part eye checkup, Melanya Garibyan gave me an option that she could continue with the dilation right then, or I could come back another day, if it was more convenient. Since dilation requires some more time & I was scheduled to take a trip out of town the next day & with lots to do, I gladly took up the option of coming back AFTER CONFIRMING that it was just a continuation and I would NOT be billed again. She even stated that the $45 co pay I'd been charged was a one time charge & was good for entire 1 year, as per my insurance. I came back on the scheduled day in Jan, 2015, again after RE CONFIRMING the previous day on phone that I was not liable to pay anything else. However, to my utter disbelief, right before the dilation was to begin, I was told that a co pay of $30 was needed since dilation is a specialized process & this & that! Post a brief, seemingly useless effort at clarification I made, I helplessly decided to go ahead, pay & finish off the entire process; instead of again starting from scratch elsewhere. However, post the checkup, I insisted the doctor explain me the charges in detail. She told me that the co pay of $30 is what was required for eye testing in case of a specific medical condition, as per my insurance; whereas $45 is for a regular eye checkup. I asked her why then, had I also been charged the $45 on my last visit!! She had absolutely no convincing answers and seemed very evasive & discomforted throughout. At one point, she actually found nothing else to defend herself with except saying that they have to cover up the huge costs they incur when studying medicine!!! Wow! As a patient at her mercy, I was clearly aghast and told her that if money was her overriding concern, she was perhaps in the wrong profession! All of this happened in her small sitting area, in front of her staff & a few other waiting patients. She finally said that I could talk to my insurance & she would talk to hers to see what could be done about the charges. I disputed the payment with my insurance, & not because it was some huge sum, but because of the deliberate misleading & ill intentions & exploitation of a patient as well as of the insurance! Dr. Garibyan ended up later refunding me back $15 back out of those $45 she charged on my 1st visit, which is further proof that she indeed did wrongly charge me the first co pay, despite being always aware of the purpose of my eye checkup. That also clearly means that she should have refunded me back the entire $45 & still owes me $30, which she till now has refused to refund. Dr. Melanya Garibyan also tries to upsell eyecare products to you, to earn more from you; that, of course seems a lesser fault in the face of the actual unethical practice I never expected. The only decent thing here was the polite, helpful behavior of her 2 office girls. Unfortunately, they cant change everything else. Needless to say, I am never again using her services. Many doctors can have the clinical skill, knowledge, experience- choose the one who will also never compromise in the honesty & dignity you deserve as patient. I can not even begin to trust a doctor who treats me as just another wallet. Enough said. Needless, to say I shall never be using her services again & have already researched another optometrist around, who seems to rank higher on everything that matters to me. read more

This review has been a very long time coming. CROOKS. please people - BEWARE. Right off the bat - the receptionists are rude, defensive, and flakey. They make promises like they are going to call you in a certain amount of time and then forget about it completely. I got several eye exams there and every single time I asked for my prescription. They had so many different excuses. They didn't have prescription paper, they didn't have time, I need to come back later. When I did come back later, they ended up having another excuse and told me I should get ANOTHER pair of glasses. When I moved to Seattle, I went to a new eye doctor who said perhaps she could get the prescription from them because it is ILLEGAL not to give a patient his/her prescription, and even she could not, as the prescription apparently expired a year ago. So I literally never got my prescription from them. If you want quality, honest, hard working service, DO NOT GO HERE. read more

I went to Dr. Garibyan for the first time and will not be back! My appointment was at 10 AM and I didn't see the doctor until 10:50! Especially for how small the office is, I do not understand why I had to wait so long. Once I was brought into the doctor, she excused herself and I sat there for another 10 minutes while she helped a man that had come in 10 minutes ago. She left the door open and I could hear her helping him while I sat there an hour after my appointment was supposed to start. When she finally came in I told her how rude it was to see him when I had been waiting 40 minutes longer! She seemed embarrassed by the fact that I knew what she did and just ignored me without an apology. The exam itself wasn't even thorough! As I was leaving and checking out I bought contacts and the rude receptionist took a cell phone call in the middle of helping me!!! I waited for her to get off of the phone to ask her for my receipt. She rolled her eyes and hand wrote the amount on a carbon copy with no details. They are completely unprofessional and I will never go back there. read more
