I've gotten a couple pairs of glasses from here now and I can say I have no complaints. Both times I was helped by Drew, and he is great. I was actually glad to see he still worked there when I came in again. He is what will bring me back for my 3rd pair. The first time I went in with no insurance and he helped me find a nicely priced pair of Oakley frames. The second time I came in with some pretty good insurance from my union. He helped me understand what would be covered and what would have to come out of pocket. The turn around time from ordering to receiving my glasses was pretty quick too. And when my glasses came in, Drew did not let me leave until I was 100% comfortable with the fit. I definitely would recommend visiting Stein for your next pair of glasses. Ask for Drew. Called to make two appointments on Friday 11 Jan 19. They didn't have any for that weekend. First available was the following Monday. I asked to schedule for the following weekend. Receptionist said she had two appointments at 0900. Showed up at 0900 on 19 Jan and they said our appointments were for 26 Jan. Stein needs to do a much better job of scheduling and consider email confirmation. I don't have time to waste showing up for unscheduled appointments. With regards to the Stein Optometric response below, there wasn't a miscommunication. The incident was a Stein optometric scheduling mistake. The receptionist clearly identified the appointment for the Saturday following the weekend of 12 January. That would be 19 January; the day I showed up. Your response shows an unwillingness to take responsibility for your mistakes--too bad. read more

I would stay away from this place, unfortunately I had a such bad experience. I had to wait 6 weeks to get a simple frames and glasses done. I was waiting for somebody to call me and NEVER did and last week when I went to pickup my new frames they couldnt find them and told me that they were going to call me whe they got them. I waited another and no one call me, I decided to call and had me waiting on the line for 20 mins to telm me they were ready, and when I went to pick them up THEY STILL COULDNT FINE IT!!!! There two more costumers waiting on their frames as well and they had their all staff looking for so many glasses at the same. This is place is NOT organized at all!!! Went to this store for an eye exam & prescription glasses and thought the level of professionalism, products and service was superb. My exam was cutting edge, and the Doctor spent ample time giving me my options with mono-lens, progressive lens, transitional lenses,...and even gave me a wealth of knowledge regarding surgical options if I chose to go that route. They have an extensive selection of high end frames that are reasonably priced, including brands; Prada, Tiffany, Gucci,...Maui Jims, Ray Bans,...and an amazing selection of rx frames, including children frames as well. I just left Stein and wanted to immediately express what I continue to experience here---professional, courteous treatment, a staff that is knowledgeable about insurance and is willing to work with you within its confines rather than making you feel badly about wanting to do so unlike other Manhattan Beach optometry groups. In fact, an exam there diagnosed my cataracts again unlike the other MB group I was seeing which never seemed to pick that up. Subsequently the diagnosis was confirmed by an ophthalmologist. Finally, I want to give a shout out to Colleen. I've worked with her before. Great sense of what looks good on customers. I've gotten compliments on my glasses she has helped me choose before. And she doesn't try to upsell you either. Stein is great. read more

Well I've been going here for years, but I won't go anymore. I was talked into the test that sees your retina and takes photos. Well I was referred to an eye specialist because Dr. Drabinsky told me I most likely have holes in both of my retinas. It took me three calls to get the actual referral (even though he said he would email me the referral), and then I waited another few weeks to get into a specialist being scared to death I was going to have to have surgery or worse lose my vision. I finally get into the specialist and he is miffed as to why I'm even there. There was NOTHING WRONG with either of my eyes. No holes, no tears, nothing except two healthy eyes. He told me he sees this a lot from optometrists (not sure if it was from Stein Optometric or just in general). But then proceeded to tell me he is an "actual medical doctor who went to an actual medical school". Boom. Mic drop. So in the end I definitely don't trust these guys for my eye health anymore. read more

One of the worst customer experiences I ever had. I bought optical sunglasses, so far so good. When they were ready for pickup, one lens was chipped at the corner (I had to point that out... their QA did not catch it). They ordered new glasses. I got a call saying they can replace the lenses within 1-2 hours. I dropped them in the morning - and wanted to pick them up late afternoon: They were not ready. They promised to get it done asap). one hour later - they replaced the lenses... and the new ones were chipped again, in fact worse than the first ones (you guessed right: I had to point that out... their QA did not catch it). I asked for my money back, which they said they could not do without contacting my insurance. We shall see what happens next... I will say they were friendly - but very disorganized and just bad quality. Will definitely not buy there again. read more

Every person who works in this store clearly has customer service and product quality as his/her top priority. Each of the three ladies who helps me select and maintain my glasses has a keen eye for proportion and fit, & even remembers my fashion preferences and has pre-selected styles ready to offer for my review. I never feel pushed to spend out of my comfort zone. Repairs are always handled quickly and thoroughly. When my frames broke in two places, Judy was able to get the manufacturer to repair them- even four years after my purchase. If a new Rx didn't seem to work, they always made it right. Omg I loveeeee this place so much and Dr Nyugen has got to be my favorite person ever! She explained everything to me so well and helped me pick the right contacts for my eye condition. I'm over 50 and my days of perfect vision seem to be coming to an end. The 1.75 readers I started wearing a couple years ago still helped me see my computer screen, but they no longer allowed me to read a book, see my watch, my phone, or anything less than two feet away from my face. I made and appointment and traveled to Stein Optometric looking for some assistance. The staff were quick efficient and very knowledgeable. Two very friendly people ran me through a series of examinations and explained what they were doing and why. I learned that my 1.75 magnification readers are what I need for working on the computer, but my reading needs were more like a 3.00. I also learned that my distance vision is still pretty good, but it could use a slight boost. I appreciated the chance to be able to experience clearer vision in the exam chair. I decided to go ahead with some progressive lenses. I went back out to the main area, where I was amazed at the selection of frames. I was assisted by Jeanie and her decades of experience in finding the perfect frames for glasses and a pair of sunglasses. I'm looking forward to putting all 15 pairs of readers I have scattered around the house away and wearing a pair of progressives that allow me to read and use my computer. After I left the shop, I ate some food at a fantastic restaurant in the upscale mall in which Stein Optometric exists. All in all an excellent day read more

I recently purchased 2 pairs of glasses. Great experience. Salesperson Mike was fantastic, patient, helpful, and creative. Glasses were ready when he said they would be. The only glitch is that one of the cases for the glasses couldn't be found. Mike said that since the store remodeled that they no longer put the cases with the glasses! So he had to look for it. When he couldn't find the case, he said he'd mail it to me. And he did, with a nice note, apologizing for the wait. I've gotten many compliments on my new glasses, and I've recommended that friends go to Stein Optometric Center in Manhattan Beach and ask for Mike. He's terrific. read more

Had an emergency when my reading glasses broke. I took them back to Lens Crafters. Their policy was to suggest I go somewhere else. So I did. I went to Stein Optometric in Manhattan Beach. I walk in and immediately I knew I made a good decision. Drew stepped up listened to my tale of woe and gave me as many options as possible in order to resolve my emergency. Can't work without my reading glasses. He contacted Lens Crafters to get my prescription sent over, That was no easy task. But he stayed professional and persistent. When I walked out I had pair of new glasses at reasonable price that fit perfectly. I know that if anything ever happens with these and I need some help, they will stand behind their product. Went in because I had all typical symptoms of detached retina: weird flashing lights and suddenly a huge dark blob in my vision. I now know the blob is called a floater. The middle-age female doctor I saw was very curt and dismissed my concern with "everyone has floaters. l have them myself." Well I had never had one!! And it's very distressing to SUDDENLY have a bouncing fruit fly in your vision. And the strobe lights made me feel like I was going insane. The doctor acted like I should have known the answers to my questions and was wasting her time. Then I got a letter from my insurance saying that Stein had asked for payment for an uncovered exam I did NOT receive. I called the insurance company. They said that doctor offices will sometimes request payment for procedures they didn't actually do and when it's refused they don't bill the patient because the patient knows they didn't receive the services. The insurance person was pretty nonplussed. BUT THIS BOTHERS ME! If you're "accidentally" billing insurance for services not rendered then your record keeping/ billing needs some serious scrutiny - especially if one is in the medical field as you're "accidentally" affecting insurance rates! AND it's creepy! "accidentally" giving the impression that you're dishonest by intentionally billing for services not rendered. I had high expectations and was very disappointed by the dismissive attitude of the doctor and the implications of billing insurance for unperformed exams. read more

only came here because they took my insurance. only a few of the people there were helpful. the optometrist rushed through my exam and i ended up with a fudged up prescription. i didn't get the glasses for 3 weeks. then i had to return them for them to redo the prescription and it took them another week. they told me they'd be able to reshape the glasses to fit me, only to find they couldn't with the frames i chose (of course way after i purchased them). i spent a lot of $$$ and felt ripped off. they don't have a computer system to be able to give you a decent receipt or pull up your prescription. they have a lot of catching up to do. nice appearance, but otherwise i wasn't very happy with my overall experience. read more

Dr Stein himself was a really nice guy that gave a quick exam. I am only 20/40 uncorrected so I didn't expect anything indepth. However the Retail side was ABSOLUTELY HORRID!!! i was interested in replacing an expensive pair of Tag Heuer's that I lost last year. i was already upset that this $400 pair needed replacing. The Office Manager (Jeannie) advised me that they were discontinuing their account with Tag Heuer. The remaining frames on the shelf were marked down from $400 to $215. However she refused to use my insurance coverage (VSP) if I took the markdown price claiming that they do not get the full reimbursement for the frames. I tried several times over the phone to get this woman to just listen and try to make a deal.. She was VERY rude and insistent, cutting me off every time I spoke. I would not recommend this place unless you have money to burn. read more

Before I became a patient, I was always getting my sunglasses adjusted at Stein. The staff is always so pleasant so I decided to get an eye exam there for the first time in 16 years! Dr. Kawamura saw me and she seems very knowledgeable and caring. It was time to buy new frames but I wasn't in the mood to look. Days later, I found a pair of Gucci frames that I loved at Nordstrom. Marcus ordered the frames for me right and sent them to the lab. He worked with my insurance company to get me the best price.
