I had not got replacement glasses in 4 years and so I thought, well I see all the commercials and advertisements for Lense Crafters, well DON'T DO IT. I did it and it was just a mistake. They are no better in selection or optical. Although I have buyers remorse, Stein has never done me wrong. I went back to Stein to take my glasses from 4 years ago, as they are still hip and was pleased to be provided excellent service oh and did I tell you that the optical $ was less than LC. I knew they would and I think it's because we're tricked into to trying something different. There is an old saying, IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T TRY TO FIX IT. This is a follow up regarding the experience I had at Stein Optometric Center. After a few chats from the staff at Stein Optometric, we narrowed down the timeline and when the incident occurred and they have informed me that the Doctor in question and whom I was describing in the review is and no longer employed at any of their locations and was fired. I got a VERY sincere message from them after they did their research on whom I was paired with. This is the message I received from them which I really appreciated. "I would like to apologize for your unpleasant experience. I can assure you, that a doctor as you describe him, is not currently employed at any of our locations. All of our doctor's pictures are on the web site. We did have a temporary doctor within the time frame you are talking about, complete with beard. He was a disaster, and was immediately fired. I can assure you that that is the only time in the 30 years that I have worked here that that kind of unprofessionalism could have occurred. Dr. Howard Stein is especially concerned that this occurred. He would like to offer his sincerest personal apology for the behavior of this Optometrist. We understand why you would feel that you do not want to return to our practice, however if there is any thing we can do to alleviate the situation, Dr. Howard Stein would like to have you contact him personally." I am not looking for anything in return and all I cared about was that the doctor who treated me never made anyone feel like this again so I am very happy with their response therefore upgrading my review. Unfortunately I can't bump it to a 5 because the incident did happen but I do believe in 2nd chances. I purchased a pair of rayban sunglasses from this center. The first time I wore them, the screw holding in the lens fell out. I brought them back in to replace the screw and it continued to fall out. Over the course of two weeks I had to have it re-tightened five more times. After the third time that the screw fell out, the prescription lens fell out and chipped. As you can imagine this was an extremely frustrating experience! While Stein Optometric replaced the frame (they ordered the wrong one the first time), they refused to fix my prescription lens even though this was clearly a result of the defective frame. Would highly recommend avoiding this place!!! read more

Whoa I've usually given up on my name brand sunglasses after they get a few seasons of use and abuse (pool season typically lol) over the years. Then end up buying new ones every year or so... Until today I went in with a pair of serengetis and Tom ford's. One missing a screw and bent way out of shape and other one missing a lense. Within a few minutes one pair feels and fits like it's got a full factory refurbishing, aka amazing. Even though I sent the pair in 6 months ago to the actual factory and they didn't do anything really expect swap out a broken part (they didn't adjust the tweaked frames, etc). The other pair they will let me know on replacement original lens and my other options later today. Overall my experience was great with their quick, informative and friendly service. I've been lucky enough to have perfect vision my whole life and never went into a rx glasses place before but yes I'll be back again. read more

I am greatly indebted to Dr. Stein's recent astute diagnosis of bitemporal hemianopsia - affecting my peripheral vision. I subsequently had this confirmed with an MRI. Thank you. My thanks are in addition to the time and care spent by his staff (specifically Michael and Jean) in fulfilling my optical needs over the years. On one occasion, Dr. Stein provided a re-check and the staff reordered lenses when I had difficulty adjusting to the computer-reading prescription. I think this is the best optometrist place in all of South Bay. It is located in a beautiful location in the Manhattan Beach Mall. Everyone that works there is kind, attentive and thorough. I had the best experience with Dr Heather Nenov , was a wonderful experience. When we met.. she recognized my last name. She went to High School with my daughter, so that made us have more of a connection. She was incredible in the process of fitting me with a trial pair of lenses. My daughter was about to get married, and I didn't want to wear my glasses. Another, employee that works there, Lauren is amazing, kind and very very helpful! I took a friend to her eye appointment over a year ago and walked into the finest selections of eye frames I have seen! I actually was in need of a new pair of glasses and found the most flattering Bvlgari frames. Yes -- I know sounds really fancy but they were just simple frames but had a hint of style in it which is what I need for work. I don't want my glasses speaking to my clients I should be. Anyway, I needed a eye appointment this year and fortunately Dr. Au was so kind and informative. He advised that my former optometrist had given me the wrong prescription for my contact lenses and it was not correcting my vision problem! I am definitely not going back to my former optometrist because I found out that sometimes they get lazy and give you a prescription that would just barely do the job. I mean seriously, what happened to taking care of patients?!?! I would not have known had it not been for Dr. Au and to top it off I had been wearing the wrong brand which was causing severe dry eye. But I always believe in a happy ending to a story, I got a great new pair of contact lenses and the dry eye issue has calmed down a bit. =) Pros: They accept VSP, great turnaround on contact lenses and glasses, awesome customer service. Good eye exam, experienced doctor and good equipment and advice. Pretty good deals on contacts, they usually give one box for free if you buy 8 and also usually have good mail in rebate offers. For glasses, they have some nice frames (Japanese) but not the coolest brands. You can buy frames somewhere else and have Stein insert the lenses and you get a discount if you are a contacts customer. read more

So glad to be back! I moved close to Beverly Hills and was trying to avoid the drive to Manhattan Beach so I tried three other Opticians in Beverly Hills. They all came with great reviews and personal recommendations. None of them came close to the selection and level of service. I was most recently helped by Dr Tiffany Ong. She is professional, thorough, and very patient in answering all my questions. The equipment theat they use here is all state of the art. After that I took a lot of time choosing 4 sets of frames. Colleeen was super helpful. She even guided me to the perfect frames for my face that happened to be on sale for 60% off. Most other offices would be intent on selling me the most expensive sets of frames. The frames I got were trendy without being too extreme. They have more choices here than anywhere I've been. If you need glasses this is the best place to go to in Los Angeles. read more

I had brand new sunglasses that lost a screw. I went to Sunglass Hut and they told me they were special screws and could not help me. I went over to Stein and LUCKILY Noah was there to greet me. He took me back to look at the glasses and saw that it needed a special screw. He told me he did not have it but would MacGyver them for me. He came back and they were fixed like brand new! He never charged me and it took him some time to fix them for me. What an awesome place and what an awesome employee at Stein. I am so lucky I found him!!!! Thank you Noah! My Experience with Stein Optometric Center was great. I walked in on December 29th, and was able to get an appointment on Jan 3rd despite how busy they were. I gave them my insurance info the day I made the appointment, and received a call on Jan 2nd stating it was not active. After being told the cash price was only $97 I decided to keep my appointment anyway. When I came in I walked up to the desk and was greeted by the very friendly and helpful Tegra. After doing new patient paperwork, and a preliminary exam with her, (the whole time she was super nice and answered all of my questions) I was asked to wait just a few minutes for the Doctor. Not even 5 minutes later I was greeted by Dr. To, who after checking the prescription on my current glasses, led me to the exam room. The exam was quick and easy, but he took the time to answer all of my questions regardless. He asked how long it has been since my last eye appointment (10 years) and urged me to try to see someone more often. I told him he was right and explained why it had been so long and he was very understanding. It's their job to make sure our health goes as perfectly as it can, and having worked in the medical field I know that sometimes doctors can be a bit passionate and pushy. Dr. To was not like that in any way, and made sure the whole time I felt comfortable and was happy to assist me in any way he could. Afterwards he asked me to wait for a few minutes in the front until one of the opticians was available to talk to be about my options for glasses. After another 5 minutes wait I was helped by Drew, who asked me what kind of frames I wanted, what cost was I looking for, ect. After I told him about the insurance not being active, he went out of his way to double check. As it turns out I was totally covered for the exam, and had a small amount of coverage for my frames! The mistake was due to my insurance not being active until 2018, but they had checked it in 2017 when I had made my appointment. Drew was kind enough to point me to the areas that had frames in my price range, and let me wander about for 20 minutes or so trying on several styles. When I finally had the good sense to ask his opinion and tell him what I was looking for, he found the PERFECT pair. Unfortunately for me they were JUST out of my price range. Before I even had a chance to set them down, Drew told me he could give me a small discount to help bring them into my range. I was sold immediately. Best of all, as we were discussing the additions of scratch/glare protection add-ons, he managed to find the same pair was actually cheaper then the discounted price he had given me! I left after paying only $130 for my perfect pair of glasses, complete with all the bells and whistles. The whole process was very fast, but at no time did I ever feel rushed or unimportant. The process took a little over an hour, at least 20-30mins of which was me trying to pick my favorite frames. I highly recommend Stein Optometric Center to anyone, and I want to thank Tegra, Dr. To, and Drew again for their friendliness, customer service, and sincerity. read more

My husband was interested in Mykita frames. I called the Mykita customer service number to find out where there was a good selection, and the guy referred me to this place. We went on a Friday late morning with my father in tow. Andrew gave us good customer service and responded to all my requests to see this color in that frame, etc. He was very helpful. Meanwhile, other employees kept walking by and asking my father if he needed help, so it seems they were paying attention to all the people in the store. Andrew got us all fixed up with the frames and lenses, and he explained the options without putting the hard sell on us. We actually liked that a lot, that he wasn't being greasy and just trying to get us to buy extra stuff. Oh, then he gave my dad some contact lens solution after dad said that his eyes were feeling dry. How nice. We went to pick up the glasses and everything went smoothly. My husband and I wanted to make sure they were straight, and the gentleman helping us was in tune with our concerns. Went in initially because of the good reviews I had read about this place. But it turned out to be the complete opposite. I called ahead to try and set and appointment and all they seemed to care about was " have you been seen here before ? (No) " and placed me on hold while letting me know they were very busy. Then finally when someone picked up they phone to speak with me about setting an appointment they weren't the most polite person to speak with. So I ended up but letting them know I would call back. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, I went in in-person and had the same experience. Literally walked in, and was " browsing " for almost 15 minutes and no one said " hey.. hi.. welcome, have you been helped - NOTHING! " I was pretty disappointed. They weren't busy at that time either. Even though everyone pretended to be and walked back and forth and if they were going somewhere important. Too important to take a second to acknowledge Me. Not to mention the guy in the front just kept looking at me up and down as if waiting for me to try and steal or something. But sure enough, every time a female walked in she was greeted and treated completely different. Not to mention given the " I'll be right with you " I was dressed casual, jeans, button up shirt, and baseball cap.. fitted clothes, nothing baggy.. yet the people here damn near made me feel like I was there to steal with all the looks I got until the time I left. I make an honest living and fortunate enough to Have a good employer whom offers full medical, dental, and vision. I will never EVER go back to this place ever again.
