Absolutely amazing experience! Family owned vineyard and delicious wine tasting. Came here on a weekend - they're open 7 days a week and close at 4 pm; last walk in at 3. Lovely outdoor seating with a patio to avoid being in direct sunlight! The staff are exceptional, so welcoming and friendly. We had a blast learning about their wine and listening to live music and just having great company! We went home with a bottle of their Viognier. So good!! A nice generational family winery in Paso. We were lucky enough to take the Jeep tour with Brian - the winemaker. The 1954 Jeep tour took us throughout the vineyard where we saw the vines up close and so many deer. Brian educated us on the wine process. He walked us through the family history as well as the history of the vineyard. Wines were great! We bought several bottles of The Crash wine. There's a good story that goes with that name and no - it's not about the Jeep. Outside the tasting room is a nice covered patio. This was our last and one of our best stops in Paso. read more

Wonderful smaller family owned winery. The warm and rustic ambience shows family and local history nuggets through pictures, and period pieces displayed. The staff was very friendly from the barbecue master to pourer to the winemaker and the owner's daughter. All were approachable and showed knowledge of their winery and products. A Memorable Experience Rooted in Family, History, and Great Wine We discovered Steinbeck Winery through their website, where the rich family history immediately drew us in -- especially the story of the 1956 USAF plane crash on the property during a rainstorm. The owner's quick thinking and medic experience helped save three of the airmen, though sadly, one lost his life. That deep connection to history and place was felt throughout our visit. We took the Jeep tour with Cindy, which was the highlight of our time there. She gave us an incredible behind-the-scenes look at the winemaking process -- from picking the grapes to pressing and barreling. As we rode through the vineyards, Cindy shared stories of growing up on her family's farm and the history of Paso Robles. We even got to taste grapes straight off the vine to check for ripeness -- such a cool touch! After the tour, we enjoyed a wine tasting, and every wine we tried was excellent and easy to enjoy. The Viognier really stood out -- crisp, refreshing, and perfect for a hot day. The Crash red blend, created in honor of the airmen and the crash, was a beautiful tribute -- complex yet smooth, with a soft finish and a subtle dryness that made it memorable. And don't forget to say hi to Cri Cri, the winery dog! She's the sweetest greeter and fully deserves all the belly rubs. Finally got to return to Steinbeck and my goodness it's just the greatest place. Grill was firing, wine are primo. Definitely one piece I didn't appreciate on my first visit was the history - they've been at it since 1844! My favorite wine is the Crash, though their Cab is a close 2nd. Couldn't recommend a visit more. Been to Paso 4 times now and Steinbeck is easily the best. read more

Cindy, the owner, is super sweet and personable as are her employees. Love winery that is responsible-human dog friendly. In our two visits here we've had personal attention that is just the right amount without being invasive. They have a wide range from.bubbkes to sauv blanc to various reds. It's worth a drive on a bit of a off the beaten path road. While we didn't order ahead (that I recall maybe we did on tock?), there were cheese plates available for purchase which was perfect for us that day. read more

driving home from big sur, we decided to stop by a winery for a tasting and found Steinbeck that had really good reviews. thankfully we didn't need a reservation. the gentleman helping us with the tasting was very friendly, super personable - we bonded over our love for the Dodgers lol. he took the time to introduce each wine and explain the history of the family and the winery. small place but beautiful space; had a lot of character. great wine! i enjoyed every single one on their tasting list. also love that they're dog friendly. they have the cutest two dogs roaming around. would definitely come back! read more

Visited on 11/10/24 We definitely lucked out picking this vineyard over the more trendy ones in the area. Great customer service, wines, and overall experience. I could have seriously stayed in the patio for another hour with my wife. The place was so calm and tranquil. My wife is a fan of wine but she's no aficionado and neither am I. That said, they give you just the right amount of info on each tasting and let you drink or chat about the wine depending on your preference. We left with two bottles. We travel to Paso every three months and like to explore every vineyard here, so we decided to come l. They where so welcoming and attentive. To our surprise they where having bbq. We taste their sparkling wine and their reds. Our favorite was the sparkling, soft and crisp. The style ranch was country and cozy, with nice views and open sitting. $20 tasting for 5 wines. Very stingy on the tasting pours. We had 1:30pm Friday reservations. Place is very quiet. They have like 2-3 winery dogs. We could barely taste each wine. They were ok, but nothing really stood out to us. They will let you revisit wines but we decided not to since we weren't going to buy any wines. They have outdoor and indoor tasting. Even they do sell some cheese, charcuterie, olives, hummus, cupcake cookies, crackers/nuts. They allowed us to bring snacks of cheese/charcuterie/crackers to enjoy with our tasting. But we finished our tasting within 30 mins or so. One of the fastest times during a tasting since you take 2 sips and the tasting is gone. This place is a very small mom and pop winery. Only produce little barrels of each wine. The wine bottles range from $38-$60..Go check out Penman Springs/ Calcareous for a better time. read more

We kept making "Grapes of Wrath" jokes while we were heading to this winery but as soon as you step inside you realize this place has deep personal family history. We got a rather last minute tasting b/c a different winery down the street said our dog is NOT welcome. Here at Steinbeck, our dog Whiskey was most welcome, as well as the 2 veterans who were driving me from wine tasting to wine tasting. The military honors that adorn the walls was a lovely reminder of how much this winery has supported and recognized our troops for their years of service. It's not the most posh of wineries but the folks are super friendly and the wines tasty. I walked out with a few bottles of Viognier and some of the Merlot. The Crash is a great story though, so definitely stop by and ask them to tell you the story and check out the history on the walls. read more

I came for an event and got to taste through the wines and was very impressed with the 'voice'. There is no guarantee that each year will produce a voice because sometimes the wine needs to be used in other blends. I loved the ideas and stories told. Great wine and amazing staff. read more

We pulled up in the late morning on Saturday . We were the first and only people on the property. We honestly did not know a thing about Steinbeck. We had won a tour in a silent auction for our daughters school and figured why not, we're here. We walked into the tasting room and met Mike. Mike could not be kinder and more welcoming. As Mike poured us Steinbecks wines, he gave us a history lesson of the property. But he then thought us some facts we didn't know about wine making and the Paso Area. This was such a great experience. Not only was the wine great but so was the experience. We found our new gem in Paso. Thank you Mike. read more

My husband and I have been wanting to go and taste this wine for years. We belong to Gary Eberles winery and we took a tour of the Steinbeck vineyards years ago. It was a very nice day. We sat outside along with everybody else. We tried two white wines and about four reds. My husband bought a couple of the reds. They waive the tasting fee if you buy I believe it's two bottles of wine. The staff was excellent very friendly and knowledgeable. read more

I called to make a last-minute tasting reservation, and Cindy was very kind and warm, even on the phone. When we got there, we sat in an outdoor barn-like structure, and there was definitely space between tables. Cindy and her dad came out to chat with us, and told us a little bit about their history, the land, and their 17 grape varieties! I absolutely loved the wines, and walked away with some purchases. The Steinbeck winery is worth stopping at. The tasting room is welcoming and the servers know the wine well. The winery is now in the hands of the 8th generation, with a 9th generation already working there. We were able to go on a Jeep tour through the vineyard with the owner, learning about the grapes and the vineyard. I highly recommend trying the red wine they have call "Crash". read more

They told us about nearby restaurants, other friendly wineries, and recommended a trip to Morro Bay. They had a lot of personality. We needed to break up a pretty dense day of tasting. We found The Steinbeck Winery estate jeep tour on trip advisor. They kindly accommodated us on relatively short notice. They do want a reservation made 24 hours in advance. Patty Steinbeck met us at the tasting counter. The main tasting room holds a intimate collection of artifacts and family photographs. Patty showed us the seven generations of her family who have built this vineyard and worked this this land for so many years. Many of them served in the Armed Forces and these experiences were proudly represented. We appreciate their service! After sampling of these delicious wines, we went on our tour. We hopped into a vintage 1958 Jeep Willy with Patty at the wheel. We meandered through the estate at a very leisurely pace. Plan about an hour for the tour. Don't forget to save time for tasting. She stopped frequently along the way to point out today different highlights and vines, letting us taste several varieties. We saw some of the production facilities and even her family homes. The fields and the views were incredible! You really felt like you were visiting family and sharing a window into their lives. Let's not forget the wines! There are some wonderful bottles included in the tastings. Interestingly, they only bottle 5% of their production. I was surprised that some local "big players" (J Lohr and Justin) use most of this wonderful fruit. We highly recommend this great tour. Thanks Patty! read more

One of our favorite places we visited while tasting in Paso Robles. It's a small family-operated winery, and they even have a friendly family dog who greets you upon arrival. We loved the wines we tried, I especially recommend the Crash blend (interesting story behind it too, make sure you have them tell you about it). Most of the grapes they grow are sourced out to other vineyards (Eberle uses a lot of Steinbeck's grapes). They save a small percentage for their own winemaking, which I think makes the wines especially enjoyable. Definitely put it on your list of wineries to visit! read more

Came to Paso Robles on a whim after our plans for Yosemite were cancelled due to SOMEONE not raking leaves i mean cmon you had one job but whatever now look at us all smothered in smoke. Anywho, despite the terrible air quality, coronavirus shelter-in-place, and the plague of locusts, Paso Robles was CRACKIN' and unfortunately we couldn't get reservations to the hoity toity wineries in town. Enter Steinbeck Vineyards. A small, unassuming, quaint, pleasant, quiet, and just plain lovely winery. We came in for a quick tasting, and Mike went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and loved. There was a bigger party sitting nearby, but he was always mindful of when our glasses were empty and ready to be filled. I mean, I didn't have to bang my glass on the table and scream "WE WANT MORE!" like I usually do! The wine doggies especially made our day! They loved to be scratched and petted, and I being a non-dog owner and a crabby ol' wench, they softened my soul and healed my heart. Please be informed that Steinbeck grows grapes for other wineries as well, so you know that their grapes are something to be desired. They know what they're doing. Holy moly, how do you top this winery experience. There were 6 of us including my 6 year old daughter who visited. We called the day before, and Cindy got us all set up with a Jeep tour and tasting which was great bc it was pretty last minute. The Jeep tour was amazing (in a 1958 Jeep!), and led by Howie who I believe is the oldest member of the family business. We learned about the farm's family history (it's been in the family since the early 1900s), the military plane crash on the property, the move from traditional farming to wine making. It was also great to do to give my daughter a fun experience on the trip. They supply other wineries with grapes, with some big names. Their tasting was almost all reds (yay!), and their one white, Viognier, was actually really delicious too. We had a great time. Thanks Cindy and Howie! read more

EXHILARATING! You've gotta take the "Crash Course"! What a thrill it was for us to experience this (unplanned) tour given by family member Cindy Steinbeck, herself! It was like going back in time, driving up the gravelly road toward the corroded barn, reminiscent of my childhood growing up in the country. A pleasant fragrance (jasmine/vanilla?) greets you upon entering the building -- not what one would quite expect from rusty-tin-siding on the exterior and deer heads decorating an interior wall. The pleasant fragrance permeated into the bathroom, which was so spacious and so pretty! Our sommelier was very sweet, prideful of their wines -- a nice ambassador for Steinbeck. How convenient and clever having purse hangar hooks under the tasting counter! We enjoyed the selection of wines (reds, especially); I now regret not requesting to taste the Ports. Cindy Steinbeck was incredibly warm, welcoming, unpretentious -- and FUN! During the Jeep ride, one couldn't help feel her passion of the land, the wines, and spreading knowledge and their history. The experience had us beaming the rest of the day(s) and was without a doubt, the absolute HIGHLIGHT of our visit! Thank you, Cindy Steinbeck. The aesthetics of the location is awesome, the people were great and so was wine but flight pours were mid.

I have visited this winery twice, once for tasting and once for a jeep tour. Unbelievable property....I believe 500 acres. The tour was wonderful with a complete lesson on how the vines produce grapes and are farmed. I enjoyed the inclusion on how it related to the many references in the Bible on vines and branches. Dennis in the tasting room was knowledgeable and friendly. He really took an interest in our visit. I also will add the tasting room is smaller, quaint and not overdone (a comfortable feel). It is without hesitation that I would suggest you visit Steinbeck's on any visit to the Paso Robles wine country. read more

My friends and I came to Steinbeck for the jeep tour and tasting. We had a blast on the tour, driving around in an ancient jeep with Howie and hearing his stories of life on the vineyard and raising his children and grandchildren there. The tasting was great too! It's a quieter winery for sure, but it had our favorite wines of the weekend trip. The absolute highlight of the tasting though was Leslie! She was such a sweetheart and answered all of our stupid questions with grace and deep knowledge. She joked around with us, told us stories of the vineyard and family, and made us feel so incredibly welcome. Her lovely presence (along with her husband, who makes some gorgeous cheese boards out of old wine barrels), and the great wine, combined to make Steinbeck our favorite stop out of the trip! read more
