Wise Choice uses a platform for selecting materials and so forth that was great in theory, rather questionable in practice, and our wires got crossed more than a few times. The time issue was simply that the projects took a bit longer than we'd planned. The time problem though was at least partly our fault (changing our minds about design, etc), and that was compounded by suppliers actually sending the wrong product on occasion, so certainly not all a Wise Choice issue. Other than that, they were great to work with, very pleasant people all around, very conscientious (cleaning up work spaces thoroughly every day), and the entire project came in under budget! We first learned about Wise Choice through Yelp, and although we were initially nervous about choosing a contractor for such a large job (they gave us the best estimate, by far!) without a personal recommendation, we couldn't be happier with our decision. They were great to work with throughout the entire process, from architectural and engineering plans, permitting, and the actual construction. The project manager, Sergiy, and foreman, Bogdan, were very honest, helpful, and responsive every step of the way. The project was completed pretty much on budget (with only a couple of unforeseen issues outside of their control) and on time. We love the results, and several people have commented that the addition looks like it should have been there all along. We can't recommend Wise Choice highly enough!

One even gave us a quote and when I called to book the job, they never called back. We found Steve's website online and he called us back within a day, was out to do the quote with in a few days after that and started the job within about a week! He was prompt, professional and not afraid of technology (I.e he knew how to respond via email--which was great because then we didn't play phone tag.) He used quality lumber from a local company, got the job done on time and delivered high quality work. His quote was just a bit less than other quotes (yea!), but generally all the quotes we got were in the same ballpark. So it was really his promptness, communication and professionalism that sold us. The site was clean and orderly after they left and we came home to a beautiful cedar fence. I especially like the gate design. If we ever re-do our deck or extend the fence line, Cedar River will be our first call. I'd recommend Steve's work to anyone!

When we raised the issue, they initially denied installing that particular post. After we provided clear photographic evidence proving otherwise, they stopped responding and have ignored our repeated messages ever since. The workmanship was disappointing, but their refusal to address a legitimate problem was even more concerning. In our experience, this is not a company that takes responsibility when something goes wrong. We also found information on the BBB website stating that the company had not obtained a necessary license from the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries. Prospective customers may want to verify the contractor's licensing status themselves before hiring them.

Jim gave us an initial quote in writing for our small addition of $87,000 to $100,000. We made no changes to the initial plan other than changing from an expensive trifold sliding glass door to the deck to a much cheaper French door. We spent about $15,000 dollars on permits and electrical box upgrade and paid Jim and his interior designer about $1,500. After all this Jim gave us a more detailed quote of $225,000 which did not include interior finishings or taxes. When we asked Jim how could the quote change so drastically he had no explanation. We then told him that it didn't make sense to continue the project at a cost of over $2,000 a square foot. HIs only response was " Understood".

When I connected with him at the end of June this year we booked a 5pm time slot for him to view the property and at 5:06pm the day of the appointment he texts me saying he had to reschedule because he forgot his phone. I was confused, but I gave him a chance because life happens. Finally he was able to come and do a quote. He came to the property, he wasn't on time but it didn't bother me. We had a great conversation when he came where I thought I had found the perfect guy to build our deck. Then later he texted saying he needed to do some more measurements, I asked when; then he said actually it's ok he doesn't need to do measurements anymore. Then some time passed and he said he actually did need to do more measurements. So we had to arrange to meet again, but that was a very busy time for me so it was delayed. Finally we agreed on today, to which he said he'd come to our property at 2-3pm; then he confirmed he would be here at around 3pm. I rearranged my plans and agreed. Then at around half past 2 he said he would be at the property in "around 30 minutes" for measurements, which would be around 3pm, but because he came 10 minutes early and I was in the restroom so I didn't reply to his text of being here 10 minutes earlier. At 3:00 I saw his texts where he said he had arrived (early) and said "I'm leaving bye" at 3pm... the time he had said he would arrive originally. He said he was waiting at our gate for 20 minutes which was a lie, he was waiting for 10 because he was early, and I did not expect that. I was in the restroom as well briefly thinking he would arrive at 3. He lied about the situation and blocked me even though I apologized for being in the bathroom, despite this situation not being my fault. Because I had thought he was a gracious understanding and compassionate man, many reviews paint him as a kind man as well. But he has so little patience, and a terrible attitude. Maybe he was just in a bad mood today, I don't know. It doesn't mean I should've been treated this way. All I wanted was a deck and what I got was disrespect.

I found Ace Iron Works website and looked over some of their completed garden gate and walkway gate projects. I was impressed! I called Ace to inquire on their availability, left a voicemail, and they got back with me promptly. I spoke with Jim, who asked that I email him a photo of my gate entrance and some measurements. I did so and he then followed up with an on-site visit. He took some additional measurements and we discussed some ornamental details that might be unique to my yard. Later that evening, he sent me a sketch of the proposed iron-gate with intricate details, just as we had discussed, and an estimate. He even proposed installation within about 5 weeks. I thought the price was reasonable. Everything went according to plan. My backyard has been enhanced with a beautiful garden gate. It allows for additional light and even a breeze that had been absent. On a sunny day, a shadow of the gate is cast upon the ground, revealing the beauty of the lines and shapes of the design, as if it were etched into the surface.
