The contracting and scheduling process was efficient and the team started on time and was courteous to neighbors. The team, led by Abraham, worked incredibly hard and carefully. We have underground electrical and irrigation lines as well plants in full bloom that they navigated with care. Abraham consulted with us whenever there was a choice to be made (ie: slope lines) and we took his advice each time - his recommendations produced a far better product than what we had initially requested. Abraham recommended and changed the orientation of our door so it would be more safe for our family. A true pro who was not just doing the job but ensuring the family behind the gates are better off in the long run. Fast forward a few month, we drove past a neighbors house and saw Western's sign, gave them a call and within a day or so Ross was at the house walking through what we wanted, what they would do, how they would do it, and the next day we had an estimate. The steep hillside, and retaining wall weren't the only challenges, the biggest is that there is no access to get equipment to the backyard, so everything would need to be done by hand. Ross and the Western team continued to work through our pricing questions, and we came to a fair price to do the work. When it came time to do the work, the crew did not disappoint. They were moving quickly, and were doing great work. They had some tough logistics and made it seem easy. The final product was an amazing backyard, a structurally sound retaining wall, and awesome new landscape around the house. The whole time, we always had access to Ross, and more so to his team that would email us back same day or within 24 hours. They always let us know what was going on. We would definitely recommend the Western team and will go back to them for future work!

After getting a few quotes for our deck project, Heilman Deck & Fence really stood out. Andy came…read moreby and actually walked me through the whole process -- not just what he'd do, but why he'd do it a certain way. He explained where it made sense to invest a little more and where we could cut back without sacrificing quality. No pushy sales pitch, no checkbox quoting -- just someone who clearly knows his craft and cares about doing the job right. I had done some research ahead of time and knew my existing deck had a structural quirk that would matter during the rebuild -- Andy was the only one of the three contractors who caught it. That made the decision easy. His quote wasn't the cheapest or the most expensive, but it was fair and came backed with great reviews and a clean WA contractor's license (which, shockingly, not all of them had). That sealed the deal for us. We ended up completely rebuilding two decks using TimberTech PVC -- a smaller 10'x10' one, and a 26'x12' deck that's 20 feet in the air with two staircases and a landing. The whole project took about 3.5 weeks from demo to final touches. Andy's CAD drawings were spot-on. When surprises came up (like discovering the house's floor joists ran in the opposite direction), Andy just handled it -- added a beam, footings, and posts without delay or extra cost. Same deal with a couple small punch list items at the end (a dinged downspout, some siding, trim details). No fuss, no runaround -- his crew just showed up and made it right. The build crew was great to work with -- friendly, respectful, and meticulous. They kept the site clean and were clearly proud of their work. You could see it in the precision of the cuts and the fact that everything was perfectly straight, square, and level. Even the more delicate custom cuts -- like a half rip-cut board to fit under the house -- were nailed with crazy accuracy making it look like the boards extend under the house. Bottom line -- I'd 100% recommend Andy and his team at Heilman to anyone in the Seattle/Eastside area. If I ever need more deck or fence work (though this deck will probably outlive me), I won't even bother getting other quotes. These guys are the real deal.

We had a fairly large project involving different fence types, four different gates, and also…read morelogistically difficult due to our hill and delicate plants. We worked with Jacob to make a plan and work out details and needs. Jacob assured us the plants would be avoided as best as possible, and went over what should be moved or tied back to help ensure they were protected. Inevitably a couple of plants were just too in the way, but overall the team took lots of care around them. There was a little delay with the posts we went with and Jacob communicated wonderfully about this, and worked to get us in immediately once the posts were finished with the fabricator. Cristian led the work crew and was an excellent communicator throughout. We ran into a couple of underground wires that were not properly marked by the marking company, he was extremely remorseful and one of the guys ran out to get parts immediately to put in a temporary fix. Again, this was not their fault, yet they took responsibility. The team worked hard for several days, always communicating what was happening. They were respectful, and not loud (except for power tools as needed). The project made a bit of a mess, I was a little worried about clean up, but Cristian assured me they would be doing a full clean up once the project concluded. They did such a great job cleaning up! So not happy with our fence & gate. I got multiple quotes & went with this company. I stated I…read morewanted the fence the same height as the old one - it was built considerably taller. Completed before I could check & counter - so I just went with it. Looking down from the top, post caps were put on askew & trellis rails not nailed down properly. After about a year, multiple posts warped. Those were fixed. Now my gate is completely off & unusable as the post has split. They refuse to fix. Lesson - the warranty doesn't really cover much. While it does state "5 year warranty on all posts" it also states that they won't cover "Swelling, sagging, shrinking, warping, cracking or splitting of wood". So what does the warranty cover? Our old fence stood for well over 15 years without issue.

They built a retainer wall; leveled a sloping yard with pavers as well as put pavers on the side of our house where gravel use to be. My experience with contractors was that as they near the end of their project, they find something that needs fixing and there goes more $$, with this team, they would find things such as a fence post not being cemented to the ground properly so it wobbled and changed the boundary between us and our neighbor. They literally removed it and put it back in, cemented and hammered down. They checked in with me everytime they worked on something that had more than one option and I loved how knowledgeable they were. They started and completed work within the time frame and when they were done they cleaned up and wiped down any mess. They even built in a wood panel between the retaining wall and fence for my kids' safety. Finally, they built me a 3 in one seating area; it was a storage bench with backing that matched our deck railings. It was perfect!!!! I wholeheartedly recommend them for any project they agree to. Chris is a perfectionist and will not commit to something he and his crew cannot give 100% to.
