I highly recommend Ace Iron Works for gate design and installation. I had a wooden garden gate that blocked the light to my backyard and I wanted to open it up and bring in some light. I found Ace Iron Works website and looked over some of their completed garden gate and walkway gate projects. I was impressed! I called Ace to inquire on their availability, left a voicemail, and they got back with me promptly. I spoke with Jim, who asked that I email him a photo of my gate entrance and some measurements. I did so and he then followed up with an on-site visit. He took some additional measurements and we discussed some ornamental details that might be unique to my yard. Later that evening, he sent me a sketch of the proposed iron-gate with intricate details, just as we had discussed, and an estimate. He even proposed installation within about 5 weeks. I thought the price was reasonable. Everything went according to plan. My backyard has been enhanced with a beautiful garden gate. It allows for additional light and even a breeze that had been absent. On a sunny day, a shadow of the gate is cast upon the ground, revealing the beauty of the lines and shapes of the design, as if it were etched into the surface. Like another reviewer below, I called Ace and talked to Jim about doing some steel fabrication. He told me he could do the job and asked me to send him an email with dimensions and that he'd contact me in a couple days with a quote. After sending my email I waited a couple weeks and heard nothing, so called Jim again. He had no recollection of our conversation and said he gets lots of emails and doesn't really stay on top of them. He asked me to re-send my information, which I did, and said he'd contact me shortly with his quote. That was a couple weeks ago and I've never heard from Jim. I guess it's possible that Jim does good work, but I'll never find out because at this point I have no interest in working with someone so unreliable and scattered. I can only imagine how it would be if I had managed to hire him. read more

We asked Ace to build a pair of iron gates for our driveway, and a handrail for each of two sets of steps in our back yard. The bid was competitive. We had excellent communication every step of the way. The quality of the work is excellent, and the installation was painstaking and accurate. Maybe they do good work...I'll never know. Jim was extremely flakey. I sent him pictures of the space twice. He couldn't find the first set although they were at the bottom of the thread he was replying to. I know it's hard for some people to go back, so, I sent them again. That was several weeks ago and, as with the first time, I haven't heard from him. Just a warning. I see other good reviews here but don't expect that that will be your experience. read more

We recently had two Corten planters and edging installed by Ace Iron Works and it was a pleasure doing business with them from beginning to end. The owner came to give us an estimate and was polite and professional and knew what he was talking about. The actual installation was done by two young men both of whom were professional and polite and arrived in a timely manner. The lead installer was very skilled and did some of the soldering on site with a good result. You will notice that I used the adjective "polite" twice because it seems these days it is something lacking in our interactions with other people. This is a great company. It's as simple as that. We needed a Juliet balcony made and installed on our house before listing it for sale and we had a short deadline. After many years without front step railings, I decided it was time to get railings for the front steps, and found Ace Ironworks' website. I liked what I saw there, so contacted the owner and let him know exactly what I was interested in. He came by and took some measurements of the steps, let me know what his thoughts were, and gave me a quote with all the details written up and signed. I paid half up front and half when complete. The job was for a house built in 1910. The wrought iron railings were 8 " to short and not safe. I explained to Jim on the phone that I wanted them to to be taller. I sent him a photo and he did the rest. He put another "row" metal to make the railings taller. He did a perfect job! The railings look like they have always been that way! The railings look great but are also very solid and sturdy. I am very happy with work! read more
