After shopping, around at Home Depot and local glass and window stores, we found a company that completely filled our needs at a home and garden show near us. California Craftsman were at the event showcasing the many styles and manufacturers of windows and doors. They highly recommended Milgard brand. Their knowledge of window technology so impressed us that after studying the web to research little more we contacted them for a bid. Doug the salesman and Jon the job coordinator came out and gave us some alternative suggestions to our original plan which we had not considered but gratefully accepted. Their alternatives, using Milgard windows gave us more light, convenience and style. After a couple of weeks of waiting (Milgard has a manufacturing plant close to our residence) California Craftsman came out to install. As with most folks, we were sort of dreading the invasion of construction workers stepping on plants, dragging dirt into the house, swearing and listening to riotous music played at maximum volume. We need not have worried about any of these things. The workmen showed up on time and ready to work. Also here were Doug and Jon to make sure all workers knew their particular jobs and that all windows, frames and supplies were there. The work was admittedly loud, but at the end of the day, all eleven windows and sliding doors were installed and working. They had all parts, paint and other supplies on hand, meaning the crew of five (Clark, Fletch, Ryan Justin, and Addine) kept working all the time. And let me tell you, they REALLY worked. I cannot tell you enough about what a pleasure it is to see a job go as well as the one they did for us. Another partial day with a crew of two had this job finished beautifully. I would recommend California Craftsman, and Milgard Windows to anyone who wants true craftsmanship both in the manufacture and installation of windows and doors..... Thanks, Jack and Susan Clute Grass Valley

Edit: they have contacted us and we're hoping to get this solved…read more.. I hate that I need to write this because we love our windows. However a year after install we had the windows cleaned and the screens are too tight for anyone to get in or out of the frames. Several were bent and several will not go back into the frames fully (at all). For 80% of the new windows! We are not getting a return call from CA Craftsman and are dealing with a now-expired screen warranty. So in other words - having to fight about it. Yes, I'm grumpy about it. It's ridiculous to spend $25-30K on new windows and not have operating screens - and getting the run around because we didn't figure this out until a year later when we try to clean them.

For context, my existing doors were the original 1993 hollow-core slabs--plain, dated, and not doing the house any favors. I first asked a local contractor for his take. While he said he could handle it, he suggested going with a company that specializes exclusively in doors. Not long after, my social media feed started serving up options, and I ultimately chose **One Day Doors & Closets of Sacramento** for an initial consultation. The process was straightforward from start to finish. A representative came out within a week to take preliminary measurements, then invited me to their Rocklin showroom to review styles and finishes in person. I selected a three-panel design and a color that closely matched my existing palette. About a week later, an installer returned to take precise measurements of each opening. They custom-cut each door to fit the existing frames and hinge locations. A few weeks after that, installation day arrived--and within a few hours, everything was complete. They also upgraded the hinges to brushed nickel to match my existing hardware. The difference is substantial. The new doors are solid, noticeably quieter, and significantly more attractive. Overall, a very positive experience from consultation through installation.

However the size of the door did not conform to any traditional door size. Thus I started my hunt for a custom door company. I called Homestory to get a quote. They explained so nicely that they have a four door minimum and then gave me the number of a different company that they recommended me using. After calling the other company with no answer or return to my messages I called Homestory back. James was so nice and said he would see I if he could make it work do just do my custom door and set me an appointment with the designer Lauren. I was so pleased with how helpful and kind everyone was that I decided to replace all my doors! Lauren helped me pick everything out and was amazing. Doors were ready in about 4 weeks and the installation went perfect! Even with our tricky pocket door conversation. When I came home and say how beautiful the doors looked I actually cried tears Update: to add to the beauty and functionality of my new doors.
