This was my first time eating at stellas. I came to watch the game so I sat on the bar side. I enjoyed a monitor with one of their restaurants popular items, chicken wild rice soup. I didn't know it was happy hour, so I got the bowl for the price of the cup. It was served with a warm breadstick. I was worried by the broth consistency, I was used to a thicker wild rice soup. To my satisfaction, the soup was delicious and no bite was left behind. The tenderloin was cooked perfectly, soft and juicy. Reason for four stars was because I had the worst old fashioned ever but the server took the drink off the tab. Nice servers, place and food. I will be coming back again to try the Mac and cheese! read more

A gorgeous day for a ride. A picture of beef stroganoff showed up on FB and I had to have it. It was delicious and you could taste the wine. The tenderest beef tips. It was HH so we shared a bowl of wild rice soup. Not thick like many are but it was delicious. The music is more pub type for the bar side. It was classic hits of David Bowie. A beautiful view. We want to try the 32 oz. steak here. Even the broasted chicken. We couldn't resist taking home a piece of chocolate cake. Susan treated us so well. Seats aren't too low either, very comfortable. They seem to serve a bread stick with a lot of things. Basil loved his full rack of lamb that they sliced for him. We got there at 4 and a lot of people were already there. read more

I've been to Stella's a number of times since their reopening. The food is and always has been good. The Stella's Melt, The Monkey's Uncle and Grilled Caesar Salad are really delicious. The food at Stella's deserves at least 4 stars but their Covid efforts deserve a two star rating. I will only eat outside on the patio because of Stella's management's half hearted response to the mask mandate and other safety measures. Some of their servers wear their mask below their nose and/or expose their mouths when taking care of customers. I observed a server hugging a customer when they were leaving with their mask lowered and then immediately go to another customer's table. To be clear, there are a number of servers and most the bartenders do follow proper masking etc. Their bartenders are very good, but the bar itself has not been altered to accommodate the safety of their customers or employees. Especially when busy, it appear there is little or no social distancing enforcement for those sitting at the bar or the tables in the bar area. It does appear that in the regular restaurant area tables are spaced in a safe manner, although because of the server's inconsistent mask habits I won't sit there. I choose to only sit in the patio area. I try to sit in Jackie's area (outside) who is a great server and always observes the proper social distancing requirements. I try to avoid using their restroom when patronizing Stella's. The restrooms are small and people are forced to stand in close proximity to each other. At some other other restaurants I've been to with small restrooms, they try to limit the number of people in the restroom by closing off stalls etc. and posting signs limiting the number of people who should enter at one time. I have not seen anyone besides my self wearing a mask when in the restroom. There aren't any signs at the restroom's entrance to remind people to observed the social distancing and/or the mask mandate when in enclosed areas. I recommend Stella's for the food and the service is generally good. I hope to edit this review and add some stars in the future when Stella's takes their customer's safety a bit more serious. read more

Had a dinner with kids here, following some canoeing adventures on St Croix. I have mixed feelings about this place: The Good: This place is on a golf field, and has a few tables outside that have a fantastic view of the manicured grass and a fountain. The place is also big enough, where you can swing by without reservations, and be seated. the place is clean, and the booths are comfortable. The Bad: The food was just OK. Potions were big, but the flavor was lacking. I ordered a margarita, which was made from a mix, and had a bunch of hazelnuts(!!!) floating in it?!?! I didn't get the joke, why hazelnuts? They don't compliment the taste at the slightest, it was just odd. The Ugly: The dining room interior is SO dark, it feels like you are dining in a cave. Dimly lit, with black furniture, and dark carpeting, it was probably meant to create an atmosphere of intimacy, but felt more like a funeral home. Everything was fantastic! The food and service were amazing! I had the Steak and Walleye. The steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great! The walleye was the best I've ever had, hands down! The cut of walleye was huge too! I know I'm putting a lot of exclamation points, but I can't help it! My wife had the broasted chicken. The breading was very light, which was a welcomed surprise. The meat was tender, juicy, and not salty like most broasted chicken is. It was perfect! The wait staff were all super friendly and attentive, too. Estefani was the best! The food is really good. The atmosphere is dark (which I like). Even though it plays like a fancy restaurant and the food is a bit pricey, the folks that dine there range from blue collar to families to executives. It's a nice mix. The waiter was really nice and on top of things. We had a coupon in the "Happenings" book for Stella's so we thought we'd give it a try. Really delicious burger (I had the "Delta Blue") and Reuben (my wife had the "Mr. Reuben"). The burger was really tasty with the blackened spices. Bleu cheese, bacon crumbles, lettuce, raw purple onion, bleu dressing. The patty was a pre-formed stamped circle. I asked for med-rare and it came out med. The patty was sort of thin so I think it's really tricky cooking it to med-rare. Nevertheless, don't let that fool you. It was a terrific burger and has clenched one of my top pics for the twin cities. You don't necessarily have to play patty cake to please me. The Reuben is a house specialty (designated by a small icon on the menu). The corn beef was slow braised so it was fall off the bone tender (not that we found bones in the sandwich). It was a really nice reuben. The regular fries were seasoned very well and tasted great. The sweet potato fries were crispy and piping hot. Both are a good pick. Sweet potato = +$2 You won't find pricing online. It's a couple of bucks more than most restaurants with similar fare. My burger was $14 + $2 for fry upgrade. Wife's was $16 I think? There's a full bar next door. If you can spare the time to make it out there, I recommend Stella's. BTW, the Kobe burger is now $19 on the menu 9/30/2016. But they do have a Kobe 2.0 that comes with a bottle of something for $99. Who knows? Maybe you're in the crazy mood; go for it! read more

I was in town visiting friends, and we stopped in here for dinner. My companions got the club house wrap, Stella's steak, and the prime burger. I ordered the Fra Diavolo. Everyone liked what they ordered. The Fra Diavolo had a thick cream sauce-not exactly what I was expecting, but good and had a kick to it. This is definitely a place I would come back to. read more

After so many check-ins here I figured I should write a review! Stellas in Forest Lake is the best bar/restaurant with a casual atmosphere in the area! It is situated on a golf course and also hosts events. They offer a separate bar area and a separate dining room area partitioned by glass doors. The staff at stellas is always on top of things and are very friendly. The menu at stellas is on point. On the top of my list is the Minnesota Mac n cheese! Followed by the ahi tuna app, but why does it have to be such a tease. I feel like ordering two of those. Everything on the menu is good from the fish tacos to the steak bites. 2pm on a Saturday... one of many unusually warm 2012 March days. Stella's is located at a golf course. Plenty of golfers here today. The restaurant is attached to a bar. Outdoor seating is also available. For American grill style food, Stella's has a somewhat unique (in a good way) menu. I had the Tony Soprano burger - a fennel sausage and other Italian seasoned piece of ground meat on an extremely soft ciabatta roll. It was fun to try. I liked that it was different than the ordinary run-of-the-mill menu selections at other restaurants. Stella's has plenty of other interesting selections on their menu. Stella's is a great restaurant even if it is a little dark. My boyfriend and I enjoyed our time, however the service was a little lacking. I'm not sure we saw a smile from our server the three times he stopped at our table. Despite that, my burger was amazing and the fries were to die for. I quite enjoyed my meal. Stella's is a fun restaurant located on a golf course in Forest Lake. The decor is quite dark, but well lit, with colorful artwork scattered throughout the restaurant. By the decor, you would think you you were in an upscale restaurant downtown, not in Forest Lake. There is ample parking and separate entrances to the bar and restaurant areas. We were seated quickly, and our server greeted us immediately to take our drink order. We stopped in for a quick bite to eat while Christmas shopping and started with Stella Frits, which were really tasty but small portion size if you are sharing. Next we ordered the Fish, and Lobster Tacos. The Fish Tacos were fabulous and the flavors were really spot on- seasoned perfectly, great flavor profile- they really hit the spot. The Lobster Tacos were disappointing- the Lobster was rubbery and seemed over cooked, small amounts of Lobster on the Tacos, and the flavors were not as good as the Fish Tacos. Next time we are in the area, we want to try something from their dinner menu. read more

Six of us were looking for a place for some drinks and dinner. Per the website it boasted craft cocktails and best in class customer service (I see the website has been "updated" and no longer boasts about this) We told the hostess we were interested in eating dinner but we first were going to have a couple drinks in the bar. We seat ourselves in a booth and the waitess comes to our table and asks what she can get us. We asked if there was a drink menu and she looked frustrated. She went and got 1 drink menu (remember there were 6 of us) We ask what she recommends and she threw out a couple of the usual bar items, whiskey coke, gin and tonic. I ask about the 'craft cocktails" the website mentions and she gives us a blank stare. I ordered an old fashioned and she asked me what kind of pour. I said i like a rye whiskey. Two ordered manhattens and the others were still undecided. She gave them more time. We went and grabbed more drink menus on our own since she wasnt feeling like giving much service. She comes back with the first ordered drinks and places them in front of us and asks for the other drinks My drink is horrible! Its boozy and half of a bad orange and a marachino cherry. Now the men can handle a stronger drink but even they said they werent that good. I nursed mine for an hour. Even at the end the taste was not good. Groups of golfers were coming and going and we watched them get very attentive service but they were most likely regulars and thought how nice it would be to get that kind of service from our server. Our server became increasingly annoyed with our group. We decided it was time to leave and we would find dinner elsewhere. We asked for our check and we waited and waited. We then saw on another table a happy hour menu. Ummm. We were there during happy hour. We were not informed of any drink specials or food specials. Just like the drink menus we had to go and get out tab. We asked for our tab as well as asked the manager to come by our table. The server brought our check and the manager came by at the same time. We explained our disappointment and the many missed opportunities by our server and immediately the manager said, "we were told by the hostess that you were going to have dinner, we didnt think you would be interested in happy hour" Wow .... We tried to have her see our perspective, but all she could do is defend that they thought we were going to eat in the dining room. Then lastly we opened our bill. Those 'craft cocktails" cost $13 each! A lowball with s quarter of an orange and a marachino cherry and i am assuming a shot of rye whiskey. Below is the drink i received for $13. Needless to say, we will NOT be back. We WILL, however tell everyone about the kind of service you can expect at Stellas on 97. read more

I've been to Stella's a handful of times. The food has always been fantastic. The Minnesota Mac n Cheese is amazing!! I'll never say no to pork belly and andouille sausage on a creamy bed of mac pasta! Most recently, my boyfriend and I visited here to meet with some friends who live nearby for their happy hour. The happy hour specials are decent. There's not a ton of selection as far as the food goes and each plate is may $1-2 less expensive than it would be outside of HH, but the drinks make up for it ($3 domestic taps!!). For the tasty food and great happy hour drink specials, this is a great place to unwind after a long work week. The reason I'm giving 3-stars is due to the lackluster service we received last week. Granted, the place was packed and it didn't seem like there were very many servers (I think there was one, maybe two waitresses manning the entire bar area), but our waitress was very forgetful and kept making excuses for why she was messing up. She kept forgetting to bring my boyfriend his pop refill - we had to remind her THREE times. And he still never got it. We watched her fill it, and then it sat at the drink station at the bar and no one bothered to figure out who it was for. In my opinion, if you have to be reminded of something even once, that should become your priority at that moment, especially something so simple. That level of absentmindedness plus the excuses without any effort to actually rectify the situation is unacceptable at any workplace (I certainly couldn't get away with it at my job), let alone the service industry. Maybe she was just having a bad night and I don't think it will stop us from returning, but definitely an area for improvement. read more
