Came for the vibes. A rustic cabin-looking restaurant with a duck theme? With ducks everywhere in the restaurant next to fishing and hunting gear? Duck-puns on their menu? Of course I came for the vibes! Drove through the area and picked Quacks as our dinner spot. The service was friendly and pleasant. The food came in large portions and was tasty. My only complaint was that they only have Pepsi (no Coke Zero ._.) The open-faced sandwich was interesting because whether it qualifies as a sandwich is debatable. It was a good-sized leaf steak nonetheless. The loosey goosey, I thought, would come with cheese in the patty, but it actually was above the patty. Still very cheesy and yummy though. Half the booths and tables in the place empty and it took almost 20 minutes to seat us. This has happened to us before but keep trying, hoping it gets better. Server (older gentleman) was decent enough. Food was average at best. 45 dollar steak was tough and flavorless. 3 strikes ur out. For a 150 bucks ill go somewhere else next time. read more

Norman Quacks is now under new ownership, in process of turning into a sports bar. The owner mentioned that they were only keeping about 1/4 of the Norman Quack menu, and the bar selection would be cut back also to go along with their new Theme, and the Prime Rib may only be available for maybe Friday or Saturday. Norman Quacks has been known for their Seasoned/Smoked Prime Rib, and their hand battered onion rings. This time the Prime Rib Was not quite as good as all the times in the past. The main reason of this review is because they always had really good drinks. However, this time when I ordered an Old Fashion, and the wife a Cosmo, neither drink was good. The Old Fashion was extremely watered down to the point I couldn't taste if there was any brandy including it was only barely over an 1-1/2" in the glass. The wife's Cosmo tasted like it was mostly only cranberry juice. Hopefully this is not a trend, and just a mixup with the bartender. We have normally gone on a Friday night, but this time it was a Saturday. Bar area was full however only about 6 tables of people in dining room. read more

Been to this place many times ver the years and never left feeling unsatisfied. Is it fancy? No it's just a good everyday steak and sandwich spot with easy parking and very family friendly atmosphere. The service is good and generally very quick. The ambiance is low key outdoors meats library. It's the best I can say and if you eat there's you will get it. If your looking at sandwiches I highly recommend the broadway pork and cheddar, the buffalo chicken, and the monte Christo. Their potato soup is also very good. read more

Stopped in for walleye dinner and we were really disappointed. Salad was limp and brown, the panko crust on the fish was so hard it rattled your teeth. Waffle fries were 'meh' so were the garlic mashed potatoes. I think they need to change the cooking oil - slight rancid taste. My first bite of walleye tasted like dish soap. Overall the restaurant is dingy and needs a thorough cleaning. Sticky floors, grimy menus.... You get the idea. 2 stars because service was good. read more

Never had an issue with this place over the years but today was disappointing. Server had 1 other table (6 ppl) besides us (2 ppl). We were ready to walk out when he finally came over and asked our drink order, about 10 mins. By this time, we were ready to order. Place order with soup as our starter. Nothing, nothing, nothing and then our meal came from a different server. We mentioned our missing soup. She told our server and he ran back to get our soup and all he said was he forgot. Flavor...what flavor? Steak was a good cut but no flavor. Ordered MR but was over cooked to medium, but cut was good. Overall D+ due to server, lack of flavor and disgusting mens bathroom. Ordered filet mignon and not only was it over cooked (ordered medium rare but was medium) but it lacked flavor and was not a good cut. I mentioned something about the temp of the steak and waitress was great about it and offered us free dessert. We picked the cheesecake to go. Arrived home and decided to have the dessert and it was probably the driest cheesecake I've ever had. Dinner this evening. Wife and I shared the large prime rib. Flavor was great but this was the toughest piece of meat we have ever encountered. Salad and potato were great as well as beverages and service but that cut of beef belonged in a hamburger patty. Steak knives had a hard time cutting the muscles and tallow. This was my first (and probably last time) to eat at Norman Quacks. Saturday night, not really busy (we were a table of six and four of us had worked as either wait staff or cooks in Forest Lake restaurants in the past so, we're a pretty good judge of how busy a restaurant is). When our waiter (and the person he was training) finally came over to our table we ordered the onion rings as appetizers. The onion rings were good but they were lukewarm, like they had been sitting for a while. We then ordered our food - we did receive our orders in a decent amount of time, but there was nothing hot on anyone's plate except the person who ordered the salad with meat on top, which was so hot that it wilted the lettuce. Since I did not taste anyone else's food at the table I will only comment on what I ordered. I ordered the patty melt with the shoestring french fries. First, the shoestring french fries were cold and they had not been cooked long enough so they were very very soggy. The patty melt, when I turned over the two parts of the sandwich, the bottom slice of bread was completely soggy and falling apart. I have no idea how cheese can have no flavor but I tasted the cheese separately from the sandwich and it had no flavor. Neither did the onions that were put on the sandwich. The hamburger itself was bland, but it was cooked to my order of medium. While our waiter's trainee did come over to see how everything was, we just said "fine" as this was a special night out for a member of our party and we didn't want her to feel bad. So shame on us for not saying something right then and there. But this was last time we saw them until we had to wave them down to get our bill. First time visit. And I'm still trying to decide what I thought. Very friendly staff. Terrible parking lot. I was.on a first date and we both looked and thought the same thing when they brought out the "bread". Three small slices of what appeared to be Italian bread. When I say small, not kidding or exaggerating, each about 1 inch wide by maybe 3 inches long. 3 pieces for the two of us and it comes in a little paper boat. Like what fries may come in. We could believe that that was their beard service. And it was very good bread. The side salad had a nice selection of different things but was gone in 4or5 bites. Very very small, like the bread. Don't bother thank you. My date had salmon and she enjoyed it. I had the Prime Rib. Now I know I'm a little picky about my food, which is why I here writing now. And it was OK. Nothing to remember about it. Didn't have any flavor of it own. I had it so I don't need to have it ever again if I, we, do return. We are newcomers to Forest Lake. The first thing we noticed about Norman Quacks was the crazy logo. In my mind, they could stand to go through a rebranding. Their menu design doesn't really fit with the type of food they serve, in my mind. They are a bit more upscale than their logo and menu first appear. Since COVID was in full swing, at the time of our order, we had to get takeout. I was afraid the fried food might get too steamed or the food wouldn't taste as great. Wow, was I wrong! They did a great job keeping the onion rings crunchy and the salad from wilting. I ordered a salmon salad (which I highly recommend). It was so delicious! I am trying to eat healthier. That can sometimes feel like a punishment. However, I would get this salad even when I wasn't trying to eat healthy. It was very tasty! My husband ordered the prime rib. It was also delicious. It was almost on par with our favorite prime rib place that we've ever eaten at out in Massachusetts. My favorite part really surprised me. I like onion rings, but I loved their HUGE onion rings. They were perfectly fried perfection! I know I'm trying to eat healthier, but I couldn't resist them. Ha! We were happy with our entire meal. While I think the place needs an image overhaul I can't say anything bad about the food, which is really why you go to a restaurant after all. Nice job, Norman Quacks! Heading to Duluth, and 45minutes into driving you get hungry, sure enough we find a Minnesota type esk spot on the side of the road. We give it a shot and sure enough it's an answer to our questions of hunger, with a glance we notice THE SAMPLERS and they had the best chicken tenders ever our belly's have had. WithOlaf as our server he truly recommended the best prime rib dinner but at our quick day of a trip we settled for the almost famous sampler that Olaf recommended as well Definitely worth giving it a shot! read more

Excellent! Have wanted to try this place for awhile. Happened to be in the area today so we stopped in. We were so glad we did! Ordered the onion rings and cheese curds as appetizers. You could tell they were made fresh and they were both tasty. I had the four cheese burger and actually got to order it to my temperature liking (it was a little pink inside). Again, very good. My nephew had the mini corn dogs kids meal and my Mom had the beer cheese soup. Both were great. Everything was fresh and delicious, restaurant was clean, server was friendly and attentive. When we first started eating here a couple years it was great, the service, the food. However, years and current day we have been constantly disappointed by the service and food. Some items downgraded in quality and gotten rid of items that we loved. The worst was when we ordered the shrimp kabob appetizer for $11 expecting to have about 3 skewers but it was only 1 kabob (only 3 shrimps on it mind you). Especially considering you got the same shrimp on a salad with chicken which was also around $13. We felt scammed from that appetizer with that pricing on it.
