The famous bakery at the Dane County Farmers Market finally has their own brick and mortar location that you can visit everyday of the week. Located on Regent St. this spot has all their farmers market classics plus a great selection of sandwiches, empanadas, sweet treats, coffee, and even beer and wine. And just like the market you cannot leave here without picking up a loaf of their legendary Hot & Spicy Cheese Bread. It is fluffy, packed with pockets of gooey cheese, and has the perfect subtle kick of spice. Best when served warm! Service was quick like at the market but the store has plenty of indoor seating and a patio where we enjoyed our treats. Tables are well spaced and the noise level was minimal. I parked on the street directly in front of the shop but they have a handful of parking spots located behind the building and accessed through an alleyway/driveway near the front of the shop. read more

We stopped by the new Stella's location on Regent Street after having dinner at Butter Bird. I was so happy to see that they are open until 9pm on Fridays! We bought their famous cheese bread & a giant cookie for the kids to share. The restaurants space is so cute and thoughtfully set up. There is an indoor dining area and a really fun backyard area with an outdoor bar, TVs, and lawn games! There's parking in the back of the building and everything is shiny and new. Staff were friendly as well! What a hidden gem, and one of my new favorites. read more

Great find from the Dane County Farmers Market! I got recommended to try the hot and spicy cheese loaf by a friend, and it didn't disappoint! Definitely get the whole loaf instead of the mini loafs, since the whole loafs are still warm. The bread was fluffy and cheesy, though not very spicy. The farmers market goes around the entire Capitol building and has a variety of cute local businesses. we went to the farmers market on saturday and got the famous hot and spicy bread!! it has melty cheese and red pepper flakes on top~ it was served steaming and was super soft and peelable. a really yummy snack. top 2 eats from my trip to madison! Stella's Bakery keeps me looking forward to the Dane County Farmer's Market quite literally every weekend. Their booth is easily one of the most popular with multiple lines forming from all ends. Obviously, Stella's is known for their hot and spicy cheese bread. This stuff is amazing; always warm and seemingly fresh out of the oven. I'm pretty sure they must use a Hawaiian style roll for this and it is so good and pairs nicely with their spices and cheese. If you're not a big spice person, don't let this steer you away. It's very mild in terms of spice level but does have the slightest kick. The more we try the cheese bread, I've noticed that the cheese isn't always evenly dispersed, so you wind up with a big cheese glob in one section and no cheese in another. This doesn't bother me too much as I genuinely enjoy the bread alone. However, my technique to overcome this issue is to pull off pieces of the plain areas of the bread and uses them to break away at the big cheese clump sections... if that makes sense? Anyways, Stella's also serves a fair amount of other baked goods. We've tried their spicy cheese empanada which was surprisingly cold. We were a little disappointed by that but the empanada was still really good and could be promising if served warm! read more

So I have loved Stella's for years, and I must say today that the MLK Farmers market was beyond rude. I got some I got some paper dollars and coins from EBT. Ordered my bread and was treated Like an idiot. Apparently you can only use the coins for vegetables and fruit. I was told by I believe the owner that this is a bread and proceeds to explain what fruits and vegetables actually are with actual examples. I.e. lettuce is a vegetable, strawberries are fruits, etc. Embarrassed me for sure read more

Giant bread for the same price as at the supermarket. Super cheesy though the cheese wasn't dispersed evenly, so you'd get pockets of pure cheese then pockets of just bread. Definitely a farmer's market staple. They have some of the best breads in town with the hot and spicy cheese bread and most of their other loaves. They also used to have a blueberry scone which was one of my favorites, but I think it has since been removed from the menu. This time we went to the storefront to pick up some pie for National Pie Day! I was excited to see a spicy Mexican chocolate pie as one of the options, so we ordered that along with a french silk pie since they are supposed to freeze well. I have to say that the spicy pie did pack a punch. Much more spice than I was expecting, but it was definitely appreciated. That being said, I wasn't a big fan of the pie because it was kind of gritty to eat, when I was expecting a smooth finish. We ordered the french silk pie because we wanted to compare it to the one that was at Hubbard Avenue Diner. After tasting it, we're pretty sure that it's the same pie recipe. And like I have reviewed in the past, I just don't think this is a french silk pie, but more of a fudge pie. It's quite thick and dense like fudge and doesn't have the light, creaminess of a french silk in my opinion. Still a decent pie, I just find the name misleading. read more

Went here and grabbed some cheese breads, French baguette and apple pies. Good breads. The apple pies were so unique. Not too sweet and super tart . Also, I loved the crumble topping as well. Highly recommend to warm the pies up and top it with vanilla ice cream. read more

OMG the hot and spicy cheese bread is SO good. I waited in a looong line at the Madison farmers market for 1 loaf and man do I wish I picked up a few more. Totally worth the $12 they're charging. The loaf is large and seriously packed full of gooey cheese and perfectly cooked soft bread (think soft challah). I shared with my family and it was gone in a matter of minutes! We also chose 1 rhubarb pie (recommended by the employee) and it was so tasty. I've been to their storefront as well as their stall at the farmer's market and bother everyone who's heading to Madison for a load of their spicy, cheesy bread because it is so good! When heading to their storefront you might feel like you're going to the wrong spot but just trust your GPS to lead you to the right address. I only had Stella's from the farmer's market for awhile now. It was the highlight of the morning for us. First, we stop at the big, bustling red tent and picked up our hot and spicy cheese bread. Then, we would do the rest of our shopping. Since the farmer's market has been closed due to COVID, we naturally stopped eating Stella's. Immediately fet something missing in my life, so for the first time, i went to the actual brick and mortar and was pleasantly surprised. It is located inside an unassuming building just off Seyne road, easy to miss if you're not careful! Walking in, it really did feel like an establishment that's been serving our community for 30 years. I love how you can see everything going on in the kitchen. It seemed like everyone was relatively practicing social distancing. We got the hot and spicy cheese bread, a load of multi grain bread, empanadas, scones, and a Bearclaw. I especially love their empanadas. They pack them with so much cheese, every single bite. Their scones are great too. Unapologetic with the butter, a dense scone. Can't wait to go back. I ordered this as a delivery, had a bunch of issues with the delivery and was told by the folks at Stalle's that they just bake and put the bread in the box and that for delivery issues I should deal with fedex on my own. For their customer service I would have given them 1-2 stars, but I will keep this out of the rating of the review. Eventually after 6 days I got my order, flavors were nice, but most of the bread was hollow. Basically I got more air than bread, both sides had major pockets and the middle was half hollow. Stella's Bakery is basically the head bitch of the Farmer's Market, with crowds continuously flocking to this stall to get their hands on Stella's bakes. Specifically, Stella's is notorious for their steamed hot n spicy cheese bread--and for good reason. The loaves are massive, and come as big as my head. The bread blankets around warm, gooey Wisconsin provolone cheeses, and red pepper flakes are sprinkled throughout its bake. My mouth is watering as I write this review... BUT. A massive hunk of bread like this comes with a price. Coming in at $12, this bread seems a bit pricey, but it's claimed to last an entire week. Now, a week might seem a long time to have to maintain restraint and control over not inhaling the entire thing, but I strongly advise at least not eating the whole thing in one day. We found Stella's Bakery on Yelp while driving through Madison and boy are we glad we did!! The bakery is in an industrial building so a little tricky to find, but once we walked in we were greeted by friendly, smiling employees who were genuinely glad we stopped in. Since this was our first visit, they gave us (free) a small hot cheese bun, which was warm, soft, and heavenly. We ended up buying two Danish rolls which we agreed were were by far the best we've ever had; warm, buttery, and flaky with just the right amount of sweetness. We also bought a large loaf of their hot cheese bread to take home. Next time we're in Madison, we will certainly stop at Stella's again. Highly recommended. Highly! read more
