a week ago when finishing up/pressing a wedding dress( not a traditional briday gown) for a client who was getting married in 2 days discovered 3 oilly stains. I washed dress 3 times with no luck. I switched to Stena dry cleaners several months back after I had accidentally left a pair of my great grandfather's cuff links in a shirt that went to my old cleaners. (I had been a customer there for years. At least five dress shirts per week.) These 19th century heirlooms did not come back. (I was heart broken that I had been so careless but equally furious that someone there could be so dishonest. Since I switched to Stena I have been nothing but pleased. There service is excellent; their hours are very customer friendly; and they take old-fashioned pride in their work. They have an incomparable attention to detail. That said, in comparison, some of heir prices are higher and some equal to their competition. While I would prefer to pay less for my shirts I don't mind paying a little more for the quality and service--and honesty. I have also used their Erica's tailoring service which is embedded in the facility and been equally pleased. NB Erica's is a cash only business. read more

I needed four pairs of pants hemmed on a short turn around and Stena did a great job! I especially appreciated that I was not charged extra for the rushed service. On top of that, the gentleman that took the measurements was extremely knowledgeable in terms of the proper length pants should be (wide leg v. straight leg v. boot cut v. ankle have all varying length requirements). AND he also took into account the various heel heights I was planning on pairing the pants with. He was so good that I bet he could just eye ball it and get the hem right where it needed to be. The husband and wife who run the business are completely dedicated to quality service, always greet us with smiles, and their staff do incredible work. They've come through in a pinch when I needed alterations quickly, and their alterations are always impeccable. I use this place as my regular dry cleaners. I should start out by saying that I would get everything in my closet dry cleaned if I could afford it. This place is dependable, offers a quick turn around, and will work hard to. Get the stains out of your clothes. I have an obsession with silk shirts and have managed to stain most of them over the years. They have tirelessly worked to get each stain out. Pricing is moderate, but you get what you pay for. Definitely would recommend this family run business. read more

Just picked up two pair of lined drapes and 4 valances with very ornate trim. At drop off, the gentleman explained that the drapes were 30.00 a pair but the valances would be much more. The trim would have to be removed and sewn back on - very labor intensive indeed. When I hesitated about the valances the man said, "I'll work with you." I asked for a ball park price but he was reluctant to offer one. The turn around time was very quick (less than one week) but the total cost, $240.00. I was shocked. When I reminded the man he said, "he'd work with me," he knocked off 40.00. I am not questioning his good work of cleaning and repairing 4 valances but to charge $180.00 to do is a bit much. I more angry at myself for not insisting on an estimate in advance. In these extremely difficult times, especially for small businesses, do yourself a favor and get it in writing up front. I will continue to support small business but I expect to be treated fairly and honestly. Overall a great shop: tidy, fast, courteous and they seem to do good work. read more

I like Stena Cleaners...both the dry cleaning and the alterations services they provide. However...sadly...I plan to either find another cleaner/alteration business or have my boyfriend drop off / pick up my cleaning. (I already have a "Plan B" for alterations.) Here's the problem: Every time I go in their shop and am waited on by the dark-haired man (who, I believe, is the owner) I get totally creeped out. Every time...and I mean EVERY TIME...he makes it a point to touch my hand. The first few times, I thought it was my imagination. Then, one day I went in to have a dress taken up. He was doing alteration pinning up that day. I was skeptical, but thought...give him another chance. During the pinning, he hiked the dress up WAY higher than I was asking to have it taken up. (NEVER AGAIN, I thought.). Anyway, the next handful of times I went there...same thing...he makes it a point to touch my hand. I ceased handing the money to him --- now I take it out of my wallet & place it on the counter. Today (7/29/2013) when I went in to pick up my dry cleaning, I went during my lunch...hoping he wouldn't be there. Sigh...he was there. Creepy, long story short...he was handing me the dry cleaned clothes on the hangers and TWICE...URGED me to grab the clothes by the hanger hooks...where he, incidentally, was holding them. Yeah, because he wanted to do that creepy hand-touching thing again. I simply grabbed the clothing by the arms of the hangers to avoid him touching me. I'm tired of it. He makes me uncomfortable. I don't want to bring it up to him because I imagine he would deny that he was trying to touch me. As I sit writing this today, I can say I will never step foot in there again. It really pisses me off, too, because his wife (Erica...think it's his wife) is awesome w/ the alterations. read more

I have been using Stena Dry Cleaners for several years, both their dry cleaning services and their tailoring service. They have always provided me with prompt, careful service at reasonably competitive rate. I'm a heavy person who does not take hot humid weather well, but the clothing I have taken to Stena has always been promptly returned with appearances fully restored; all stains have been completely removed on all occasions. Alterations have always been accomplished promptly and professionally. Some of my repairs have been fairly complex, such as seams joining three panels; they were always accomplished promptly and have since worn durably. I recently dropped off my wedding gown to be cleaned after our apartment building burned down. Stena was able to get the smoke smell out of the dress and removed the stains, the dress looks brand new. The customer service was wonderful and it was a quick turnaround getting my dress back. Stena and his staff are life-savers!!! Could not have gotten better customer service and quality tailoring all within 24 hours! I was graduating med school and being commissioned to LT with the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. The day before graduation, a change was made saying we should arrive as LTs, however, to change the male uniform, you only need to pull off shoulder boards and put on new ones. Not the case with the female uniform! I had to drive an hour to Saratoga Springs to buy the gold arm sleeve material and find someone who knew how to put it on. I was on the phone with the Navy Exchange sales person who gave directions to the tailor but instructed to sew on Jr LT bars, not realizing we skip rank to full LT. Meanwhile, I ran to get haircut and get dad at airport and make it to awards ceremony at which time someone jokingly mentioned something about the bars and I realized they were done wrong (per my instruction, not Stena's fault!) I was a wreck wondering how I could ever fix this and still make it to graduation the next morning, but Stena just asked what time I could come back and assured me that I had nothing to worry about! It was probably the biggest day in my life and I was very nervous and he made sure it all went off without a hitch! Also took the time to congratulate me and seemed genuinely happy that he could help me when I needed it! The workmanship was flawless and I cannot recommend them high enough!!!
