This may have been the best burger I've ever had. Driving through and decided to stop. Has many options including bbq on Saturdays. The owners were so nice and allowed my dog to come in while we waited for our food. I asked for no dairy for my burger and I heard the owner triple checking to make sure. The only comment my party made was that the burger buns were too bready/thick (including the gluten free and regular bun) The kids bun was so good though so might have to request a kid's bun next time! oh man where do i start? i'm in town only for a few hours for work and saw there werent many choices in town for food, most if not all are burger centric which is my dream. after finishing half of my work I decided that Sten's was the spot to hit and WOW, i dont get that hometown joint feel in many places but it is abundant at Sten's. after talking about the burgers with Sten himself i decided on a strandburger with jalapenos added and an order of fries which was a great choice. I ended up getting it to go which isn't my favorite choice, but I had to get back to work to finish up. When I tell you that this one of the best burgers I've had in the US, i'm not exaggerating. it didnt have any fancy tricks up it's sleeve, no cheese filled bun; just a good old fashioned burger with all the fixins. The bun wasn't dry but it was devoid of any sogginess from the burger sweating or the toppings, the fry sauce is immaculate. While i was waiting, Stan's wife brought me a sample of her homemade chili, while not an exact match, was comparable to the flavor and makeup of my grandmother's chili; not a small feat by far! Sten's Burger Strand is so good that I downloaded Yelp to write this, if you like the hometown feel it's a must have for the conversation alone. This is best restaurant in the area and a must-stop on the way up to Shasta/Oregon. The Duxelles Burger is the best I've ever had. Perfectly blended garlic, creamy delicious burger. The crispy fries with sauce and a caramel shake complimented very well. We also ordered the brisket (only available on Saturdays) which is probably the best brisket in the state of California. The chef/owner even let us come back to watch him take it out. The owners couldn't be greater! The aesthetic of the small diner next to the community pool is awesome too. But seeing as how it was 4th of July, most of the restaurants in Dunsmuir were closed, and we were really craving burgers after a long day hiking in the sun. I'm so glad we stopped here! Not sure what they put in their meat patties but it was so flavorful! Add some fries (for a $1!) with your burgers and you're good to go! I go to Happy Camp every year and always stop at Stren's on the way up for a milkshake. They have the best milkshake I've ever had. Their food is OK but I've only had it once so maybe I need to try again. Definitely get a large shake because you will drink the small so quick and regret not having more. read more

I just had absolutely the best melt in your mouth brisket! The owner smoked the brisket for 18h. It doesn't need any sauces on it as it taste sooooo good on its own. The buns the brisket was served on were soft but crispy on the edges. They only serve the brisket on Thursday though. A definite must try! The hamburger was great too. read more

The folks at Sten's have a great, family-run business. We enjoyed talking with the owner, who shared that the burgers were named for their loved ones. It was the kind of experience that you don't enjoy much anymore. We ended up ordering a couple of custom shakes that were absolutely fantastic. In addition to their friendly nature and great food, they were very proactive in addressing the health and safety of their customers. They gently reminded my girlfriend to first put on her mask before entering the store to pay. Then they provided hand sanitizer at all the tables for their customers. I've driven by this place numerous times and have seen numerous names on the sign. I finally went inside last weekend to get some food. I will be stopping a lot more now! I got a simple burger and regular fries. The fries were great. A little skin on them, crisp on the outside and soft inside. Delicious. I had the burger later on. I wish I'd ordered more than one. Simply put, it was delicious. Nice fresh vegetables and bun, and a generous portion of well-prepared meat. I wish I ordered a milkshake, too. The other burger place downtown is good, too, but I give an edge to Sten's. Dunsmuir is fortunate to have two good locally owned burger places in such a small town read more
