Stephen K Denny has totally failed us. After a brand-new unit failed for the second time in a week, they scheduled a return call for Friday evening. No one showed up or called. I made three calls Saturday to no avail; two of the three people I spoke with promised to have a service manager call us back. Never happened. It's now Sunday and still no call. Besides just having spent more than $25,000 with them on two new air-conditioning units, we also have a yearly service contract with them that we've had for probably more than 10 years. This is so frustrating and so disappointing - until now we thought of them as a very reliable company. read more

We had Stephen K Denny come install some units last summer and then this summer one of those said units had both of the fail safes fail. We had a flood from our attic down into our upstairs. We called, they came out and replaced the fail safes and told us they would cover the repairs and have their "guys" come and do the drywall.. it's been over a month and after multiple attempts at contacting the service manager Tim and the service coordinator Joe, we are no further today than we were 6 weeks ago. It's the constant run around. We ended up calling the drywall company directly and the owner there told us they have never even made contact. It's ridiculous. When they were getting paid for the original install they played great, when their faulty product fails and destroys your home it'll be crickets. I purchased my unit in 2016 and have used Steven K. Denny for regular maintenance. At each service, the tech told me my unit was working fine. When I returned from vacation last Tuesday, I noticed that the house did not cool off as well as I expected. I called Stephen K. Denny and made an appointment for a technician the following day. Glen, the technician, told me the outside unit was leaking and the repair would cost about $1600. He then checked the attic. When Glenn returned, he told me he "couldn't find any inside leakage, but I know it is there. It is a matter of time before the system fails." Glen provided me with several nightmare scenarios and added, "my report is going to have to say I warned you." Glen described several things that could go wrong "at any time." He provided a price for each issue. Glen went out to his truck and returned with two proposals to replace the entire system, despite my still having two more years of warranty remaining on my current system. He charged me $115 for his service call. The next morning I called another company. An honest tech confirmed there was a leak in the outside system, but said the repair would be $800 -- exactly half of Glen's quote. He said there is a little surface rust on the inside unit, but there is no reason to be concerned. Clearly, Glen thought he could take advantage of a hot summer day. read more

When I called, they told me he had been there and even left a voice message which was not so. When I asked for a new appointment, instead of prioritizing for a loyal customer they said they could come a week and a half later. My air conditioner went out Tuesday late afternoon. I called Denny and they sent a service rep. He said the motor was bad and it was covered under warranty . He said it would take two or three days for the replacement to come in. He said, because our air conditioner was not working and it was very hot. that as soon as the part was in, they would come out and install it immediately. I called and it was not there on Friday. Because the heat was so oppressive my wife and I stayed in a hotel until Monday. I called on Monday and the part was still not in. Through the good graces of friends we were able to stay at their house as they were away. I called again on Tuesday morning and was told the part was in. However, despite their promise, they would not install it until Wednesday morning. The repair man came at 8:30 on Wednesday morning, installed the new motor, and was finished by 9:30. Needless to say, I was under the impression that because it was covered by warranty there would be no charge for the service. He then told me the charge for the installation was $600.! I said he was only here for an hour. How could it be $600 for an hours work? He mumbled something about installing a board along with the motor. I told him that $600 for an hour's work was ridiculous. He called his supervisor and they lowered the price to $350. That is still a ridiculous number for one hour's work. I recommend to anyone that is considering using Denny that they not do so. If I could give them a negative rating I would. read more

We used Stephen K Denny to put in a new AC unit. 2 months after the unit was installed we noticed a leak coming through our laundry room ceiling. The ceiling is directly below the HVAC. They came to inspect it and said that the pipe that connects to the drain had come loose and they fixed it. The man from Stephen K Denny told me to call a water remediation company to fix the water damage and to then call the office so that we could get compensated. Stephen K Denny claimed that they didn't cause the damage at first and said it was from our vents being older. Interestingly that was something I had asked them directly about when they were putting in the new unit and they gave me no sense of urgency. But now they were claiming it started a leak. So I had two different HVAC companies come who both claimed the vents did not cause that issue. Very likely that it wasn't installed correctly since the leak occurred two months later. I've since hired a new HVAC company that did maintenance and checked my unit. They said that the Freon levels were low and not at the recommended level on the manufacturer's label. They said to contact who installed it because no unit should show these levels at 6 months old and I shouldn't have to pay to get this corrected. Stephen K Denny told me that they were wrong the levels were fine. During all these correspondences over the last few months, it has taken multiple follow ups to get responses. The company didn't start responding until I filed a complaint with the BBB. I do not recommend this company. They don't seem honest, accountable, or trustworthy based on my experiences with them. read more

SCAM. I had this company come to perform regular maintenance on a unit that I just purchased, since they were the company the previous owners had used. OF COURSE The tech said i had a big mildew problem and tried to sell me a UV light. I played along and asked him which one he recommended, and OF COURSE he enthusiastically recommended the most expensive one, for $1500. Not kidding!! they run $2-300 on Amazon. I called another AC tech that was recommended to me highly. He came out and looked at the "mildew". He took a picture of it, before and after he wiped it off with a cloth. It was on a smooth surface, and he said it took him literally 10 seconds to clean it. why didn't the previous tech clean it? Isn't that what he was therefore, to perform maintenance? I would be willing to bet they pull this same routine m regularly. guess what else? He also showed me a picture of the UV light that I ALREADY HAVE in my attic - !! don't use this company, they are a total scam. Do you know what else? They're not friendly at all. AT ALL. at the end of the day, I'm really glad I had this experience, because it led me to an excellent tech who is far more reasonable and completely honest. Twice this year they have blown off the scheduled service appointment - no email, no call, no contact, no effort to keep their end of the service agreement. When trying to reschedule the call, when they no-show, it takes 2/3 months to get back on the service calendar. Time to take my business elsewhere to company that actually keeps their word. I thought I had finally found a honest ac company. I even recommended a friend who also bought an ac unit through them to the tune of $5k. Do not use this company. I have been lied to so many times by Dustin the manager. They said they were fixing my unit under warranty yet I get a $400 bill so not under warranty and better yet the part they replaced didn't even fix it. So still does not work and I told them multiple times yet here I am with a bill and a late payment charge. Then my thermostat broke on an ac unit that cost 6k+. $800 to replace. After call them they were like nope only one you can get and not under warranty. Actually it is under warranty bc they had replaced. And I didn't even need the $800 version and when I asked multiple times he lied to me just to make a buck. Do yourself a favor and find another company. read more

I had a quote in 3/2022 for a SEER 16 in the amount of $5900. I was able to get through the summer and received a new quote 11/2022 for a SEER2 in the amount of $6100. Since it is illegal to install any SEER after 1/1/2023 in the state of Florida I was pleased to get a quote for the SEER2 15.2 with the note there were only 4 in the area. The salesperson said he would secure one for me for install in December, 2022. Install date Dec. 13. On time and neat. I signed off on the install. 3 days later I thought I would take a pic of the unit model to have in my phone. I discovered then that they did not install the SEER2 but the SEER. I TRUSTED them to install what was ordered. Back and forth we went. Them claiming it's the same unit. The Dept. of Energy would beg to differ. Stopped payment with VISA. They sent the 3/2022 proposal to VISA with price change from $5900 to $6100. A proposal I NEVER received in March. I was paying for the 11/2022 proposal SEER2 which they never sent to VISA. Unfortunately for me VISA sided with them. I would never recommend this company. Who does this to people? Be aware whoever you use must install a SEER2 in Florida effective 1/1/2023. My gut tells me they had the SEER in stock, knew they couldn't install it after 1/1/2023 and thought I would never check. Sorry I signed off on it but again I TRUSTED they would install what I ordered. read more

This company came out to air balance my AC system last year to remedy hot/cold spots. The tech went up into the ceiling, heard him walking around up there for about an hour. Came down, said he installed 2 dampers and then he left. Winter came and I didn't notice the issue as much so I thought the problem was fixed. Come this summer, the problem is still there. I hired another HVAC company to take a look. They said no dampers or work any work at all was performed when Stephen K Denny came out. I went into the attic to confirm and there were no dampers installed last year. I paid over $350 for Stephen K Denny's to do NOTHING and lie to me that they installed dampers. Stay away. read more

Recently had Stephen K Denny instal a Ultravation light system in my Lennox a/c unit for whole house air purification and coil cleaning. People were very nice but not forthcoming on picking the most cost effective option for repairs/upgrades. Technician brought the wrong light size with him for the coil. They were looking to install a stand alone light rather than expanding the system they already installed. To add the EZ light to the system they installed, it cost $125 as it plugs right in. The cost to add the separate light they wanted to install cost $500. Be careful, they are not looking out for the customer, but rather which option makes them the biggest profit!! read more

Technician talked me out of that $6,000 idea and instead, recommended an inexpensive air duct be installed + balancing my current AC air flow. Just filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau! I had been a loyal client since 2006, purchasing annual service and maintenance agreements and extended warranties on all new equipment. The company has gone down hill over the last two years. Constant changes in office staff has caused their records to be in complete disarray. You must demand and hang on to EVERY warranty, invoice, and maintenance report. You must keep track of when you are due for maintenance. After repeated aggravation trying to deal with Dustin, the service and maintenance manager, I have finally given up and taken my business to another company. read more

Had a compressor replaced under warranty. Tech came evaluated the problem told me I needed a new compressor. Gave be a price of $1,100 to do the job. I agreed. A few days later when the parts came in the tech came and did the job. He showed up at 8:40 and was finished with the repair by 10:35 including packing up his truck. When he came in to the house to collect payment I asked him to give a itemized bill and he got very defensive. I said all I'm asking for an itemized bill is that to much to ask for, he said he had to call the office. I spoke to the service manager and was told it was $750 to replace the compressor and $425 for 410A Refrigerant. I than questioned him about the about the $750 installation cost since his tech only worked 2 hours. He told me I was quoted a flat fee whether it took 2 hrs or 5 hrs. since I agreed to their quote I paid by CC. this company claims to be in business 20 years, if so I'm absolutely sure they know how long it takes to install the compressor in a system 2 yrs old. All I'm sayin is be careful it's a slimy way of doing business. They knew how long it would take. They never gave me the opportunity to pay by the hr. or take their flat rate. I have had service for several years and previously found their Technicians as being professional. That being said it was mostly routine Maintenance, but now I had a leak in the system. They sent out 3 people on 3 separate times and could not find the problem. I called another Company shortly thereafter and they found a minor leak in the evaporator coil. I later called their service manager to tell him about this and he came across like he really didn't care. I spoke to several other in my community who used them, but had a similar experience and dropped them. I gather they have had a turnover in staff and are having problems. They also have new ownership. I give them 2 stars as the people sent out acted professionally, but can't give a higher grade as they did not resolve the problem. read more

I purchased 4 ton Lennox AC unit in October 2016. This was the brand Costco sponsors for HVAC. I trust Costco. What a mistake. Within 6 months the coil leaked and needed replacing. The fan motor was defective on the outside unit (XC20-048). Now the air blower is defective (11-15-2019). I spent $9000 on this 4 ton AC and I am so disappointed. I wish I had never bought anything from Lennox. I have over $1200 in repair costs so far. I will never buy Lennox again. Service has been horrible. Parts not in stock and I wait 2-5 days to get parts. I live in Palm Beach County in Florida. Having my home as hot as outside is no fun. I can not recommend the Lennox brand. Even the service technicians say this is more defective than other brands. read more

Let me start by saying I have many years experience in house construction - and a good deal of technical knowledge of HVAC systems. I am not an angry homeowner, but this deserved a review. I needed a new HVAC system and decided on Lennox because I enjoy their quiet operation and have used them in previous homes w good results. Using Costco, they provided me w Steven K Denny - (SKD) the Lennox contractor in the area. "Joe", the salesman showed me various systems, and I decided on the Lennox high end model w a 25 SEER rating. I wanted a new system with new returns (intakes) installed i each room with a rebalancing of the existing ducts - which simply uses more/less air to compensate for heat load resulting in even temps and no hot/cold rooms. I also told Joe I wanted everything done RIGHT and that I have had bad experiences w poor HVAC system installs. Money was not an issue, I said. I want QUALITY. Joe assured me all would be done well with professional installation to high standards. Initially - the install took two days. I say that because the whole job took over 3 months to complete. The air handler was in a closet as most are in Fla, but the HVAC techs decided to remove the connecting ductwork and remove drywall exposing open metal studs in the walls where the handler was placed. After the install was complete on day 2, I noticed there was zero suction from the returns in several rooms. Since the walls around the handler were opened and not sealed, the air was being pulled from my attic and spaces between walls. I had to point this out, and ANOTHER crew was sent out by SDK to fix the problem. They reworked the mix box, as my master bath was too hot and the guest room ice cold. Additionally, they sealed off some openings in the handler closet to improve the negative pressure. After two more visits, most of the problems were solved except the humidity in my home was still too high. When I mentioned this problem, I was told various reasons from - the front door being open during work to it being, "normal" or it's because I have a two story home - well, it's not normal regardless of those reasons. I could not get the humidity level below 55% without freezing the house. Several weeks passed with various techs trying to rectify my humidity issue. I then simply asked to see a Manual J calculation - to really determine if the contractor did the heat load vs ac size the he was supposed to do. My requests were met with, "why do u what that?" And, "we will get it to you." Almost three weeks later - and no improvement in my humidity, the calculation was delivered with numbers no one could explain or justify. I had finally had given up, and just decided to live w the humidity since no one seemed to know why it wasn't lower. The inspector from the county came out to do final inspection. He completed his inspection without accessing my attic. I then asked, Aren't you going to check the ducts?" SKD DID NOT TELL THE COUNTY THEY DID THE DUCTWORK. The work order only showed the handler installation with no ductwork on the order. When he returned the next time, we discovered the ducts were not installed properly and were not suspended as code required. So another visit from SKD workers and ducting was suspended properly. Then I was told they would reschedule the inspection that never occurred. Additionally a six month routine maintenance check by another HVAC technician revealed that the settings for the blower/air handler motor was incorrect. This resulted in the high humidity levels I was experiencing. Instantly the humidity came down, the temperature was normal and all the problems were solved. All it took was one technician with actual knowledge of how to adjust the settings. Somehow, the three other technicians that had visited previously could not do this. It is now been almost a year, I still have not seen the county inspector, and have not heard back from Steven K Denny even though I have placed several calls to their main office requesting the inspection and to speak with a supervisor. DO NOT USE if you want an ac system installed correctly. This company is by far the worst customer service I have ever experienced under any circumstances. read more

I have been a customer of Costco for over 20 years so when my Florida Air Conditioner began to fail I immediately thought of all the individuals that I have seen on my way out of Costco who try to get you to have a "Service Person come out and give you an estimate". I called the 800 number and they put me in contact with Stephen K Denny, INC. They contacted me within hours and scheduled a sales person to come out to my house. The day that the individual came out , he looked at my unit and said "OH YOU HAVE A HEATER TOO, THAT'S GOING TO COST MORE" . He called someone , discussed it with them and said "Ok, we will get you an estimate by tomorrow" . That was the last I heard or saw of him or heard from this company. The next day I called a local company and within three days I had a brand new unit . No problems with the A/C or Heater. I don't know what happened but it surely left a bad taste in my mouth. I will call the 800 number again and report them to Costco. read more
