I saw Dr. Jack Stephens in the Spring office over 1.5 years ago for my lower back crowns, which came off. Had those for some time and thought I needed a professional to tell me if I need them replaced. (note, I am extremely scared of dentists due to improper care in the past) NOTE: I paid $10.000 for the horrible service that I am trying to be brief about on here. $5.000 for my permanent retainers. He came up with a plan that my crowns needed to be replaced. I had permanent retainers placed by my Orthodontist years ago to keep my lower front teeth in place, and I paid $5,000 for those. He took it upon himself to remove my permanent retainers, told me that my teeth would not move, I am 57, of course, they will move. He half extracted one of my lower front teeth in the process, very painful. I cannot bite into anything; my lifestyle/food habits have changed due to the half extraction/cannot bite into any foods. I kept going back and forth throughout that time while he tried to come up with a plan for my 4 front teeth. He said for me to come into his office on 6/2/2025, which I did to discuss the bridge he said was the only plan he had that could fix what he messed up. We have been on the phone multiple times trying to come up with a solution for the mess he created with my 4 lower front teeth. On 6/2/2025, he dismissed me and said I was not his patient anymore, and said he was sorry for the mess he created. He had planned the dismissal and did not want me in his office anymore. He took my 10.000 andmade my teeth worse. He said I am not to come into his office anymore. Got a call from his office manager on 6/5/2025, stating I will not get a refund/no work to be done to fix my teeth/not to call or come into the office again... I am at a loss as to what my next move is because Dr. Stephens is the person who created the mess with my teeth, took my permanent retainers out without my permission, took my money, and refused to fix my teeth or see me again due to me being 'unhappy,' he stated... Dr. Stephens has his eyes set on money/financial gains, not on helping patients. Steals your money and does not treat the patient/me and then discards his patients after taking their finances... read more

My Galleria hygienist retired over COVID and I began working from in the suburbs suburbs. My spouse has used these guys for years so I tried them out. So warm and friendly! Crystal is my Hygienist and Dr Swann is my dentist. I could not be more pleased. read more

You cannot pay more, but you can find better patient care. Have yet to have something done that did not have to be redone. Their interest is getting more patients in and out and less about real patient care or concern. Hygienist are great all other care suspect. I love Dr. Stephens and his staff. They've all been extremely compassionate, assistive, patient, and respectful of my fears of the dentist (just like so many other people). I have had an issue with an assistant previously, but the staff have been gracious enough to make the change when requested..so minute in concern to me. Dr. Stephens & Dr. Pagano are night and day with mannerisms and approach (those are the only two dentists I've had the pleasure of being seen by, so I can't comment on the others), yet both are very understanding of traumatic experiences and have been very receptive to my anxiety and stress levels. I have a vast appreciation for Dr. Stephen's brash approach coming from a military background like himself and Dr. Pagano is just as down-to-earth as they come. Both are great, easy to communicate with, and will walk you through what they're doing every step of the way. Seeing as though I avoid the dentist at all cost, this has allowed me to feel at ease enough to keep up with my maintenance and continue coming here. I've not had any residual issue from any work I've had done (filling replacements, periodontal cleaning) and have more that needs to be completed (crown, root canal, some alignments), yet have not been uncomfortable at all with the visits or work performed. My preferred dental hygienist is a gem and makes you feel so comfortable - a very important factor in how I respond to the visit. My husband is seen here as well & has also had some pretty extensive work done (root canal, extraction, and crown work), and has not complained regarding his experience - except for once, blaming it on the method in which they obtained his BP and thus received a pretty high reading - rendering him unable to complete a part of his treatment that visit. It did get sorted out and he was later able to finish... more of an inconvenience than I complaint I think... Billing has never really been an issue, except for when they say they send bills and we've not received them - but are eager to address - and we've been approached with balances well after the last visit. To their credit - when it happened to us, Harvey also happened and could have attributed to the lack of follow up and notifications. Overall, I am quite happy here! I will continue to trust the dentists and staff for as long as they continue to provide the stellar care they've given to my family.... Hopefully you will too! read more

Stephens & Gatewood Dentistry is at the top of my list for any dental practice I've ever had dental work done. This includes the four states I have lived in. Their office is immaculate and their equipment is state of the art. Their staff is very efficient and outstandingly friendly. Dr. Stephens did a root canal yesterday and I did not experience any pain or discomfort including the local anesthesia. My only regret is that I didn't discover their office when I moved to Texas twenty years ago. read more

Update: The Assistant....I should have been more skeptical. The crown the assistant adjusted has since contributed to my bite being off which placed too much pressure on an adjacent implant which is now most likely to fail and in pain! Previous: Came from a referral and from out of town. Dr Gatewood is fantastic! My crown is beautiful, his assistant helps a lot....which I was skeptical about but very pleased in the end. You will not find a better dentist that Dr. Gatewood! Having been to dentists that were not skilled, I developed anxiety about keeping dental appointments. I avoided it at all costs. Dr. Gatewood and his staff went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and relaxed. Dr. Gatewood is friendly and explains what he is doing every step of the way. And the best part? NO PAIN! I've been going to Stephens and Gatewood for years now. I have recommended them to my family and friends and everyone is pleased. I've been going to Stephens and Gatewood for over 20 years for dental implants, crowns, veneers, root canal and of course twice a year cleanings. I really appreciate the extra care and time that is taken with me at each appointment. For anyone who has a fear of dentists, come here! I promise you will have NO PAIN. Molly is my dental hygentist and I will keep her as long as she works there! She is thorough in explaining treatment plans, listens and sincerely cares about her patients. Had my appt & a slight misunderstanding about why I was assigned a different hygienist as the one I normally see was still there. This one might have had years of experience but I couldn't tell from the problems she was having (didn't know how to use the x-ray machine, rinsed my mouth only 3 times, forgot to use suction until I indicated I was gagging). I asked the office staff to note in my profile that I prefer to keep the same hygienist I'd had for years. Dr. Gatewood was terrific as usual as was the office manager & front office staff. I have no doubt my next visit will be as good as my previous 5-star review. After my visit, I was at a Hallmark store and recommended my dentist to the store clerk. Fab 1st appointment experience at their newest state of the art Auburn Lakes facility. Starting with the cordial and accommodating phone reception scheduling the appointment thru patient registration. Hygenist Molly=efficient (felt my teeth so clean that I didn't want to eat right away to get it dirty), detail oriented, informative, articulate and personably sincere. Icing on the cake is the hard to find, old school ideal bedside manner from both Dr. Pagano and Hygenist Molly. Dr. Stephens and his staff are amazing. I'm one of those people that are afraid of the dentist office. I've reached a point now that I have NO anxiety at all. I'm able to complete a dental appointment without any medication. I've never experienced any pain. Dr. Stephens deserves all the credit. The scheduling needs work. It seems like the people they use at the front desk or for scheduling don't seem to get it. This is the 3rd time I have booked something and they either put down the wrong thing, not let the doctor know that I need to see him, or just left me off the schedule in general. I do not know why this is so hard, but it is a fact at this office. read more

Location is fine and dandy, quiet but easy to access area, and nice views out the windows while you get worked on. Front desk, billing, Courtney and every person working there has been professional, happy to be there, appeared to appreciate their job and patients. That makes the visits worth going. Their work is great. Crowns and root canals all in one visit, done. All equipment on sight. Gum surgeries, cleaning, no idea the official procedure names, are all done beautifully, even from the receiving end. I have to mention I have had to wait past my appointment 3 minutes one time since 2006. SGAD sees your time as very valuable. A special situation I had was the Dentist patiently looking for, searching for a horrible pain that was "roaming" from tooth to tooth. Hours paid off as he actually found and corrected, after 40+ years of pain. The team knows what they are doing, give you a total sense of security, and are genuine, as are the welcoming fish in the aquarium. Great place. read more

Dr. Stephens and Gatewood have a phenomenal team of professionals. They are top notch in the latest technologies and strive to be informative and keep patient comfort foremost in their procedures. My own Dental Hygiene degree makes me challenge them often and they always respond with respect and professionalism. I just had my first root canal/crown and it was all done in one appointment, other than the noise of the drill, I had no discomfort at all. Dentist was great, however his staff was pressuring me to do dental work that is not needed. Teeth whitening is optional, but the dental assistants made it seem necessary. When I refused for the 3rd time, they said that they would list it as "refusing dental work" and would inform my insurance company. I informed the dentist and he just shrugged. Unfortunately I had no experience. I had - I thought - an appointment for Friday at 1 pm. It is difficult for me to schedule appointments as I work out of town quite often. When I arrived I was told I did not have an appointment. I was told that I did not confirm my appointment and the hygienist were too busy to work my full cleaning in. Mistakes happen and I understand that. It does strike me odd that I am getting an email asking to rate your service if I didn't have an appointment to begin with. Therefore, my service was awful and I would suggest you spend more time actually talking to your patients rather than send them emails to confirm your incompetence. I will not be back! read more

HIGHLY OVERPRICED and don't expect but a mere 5% discount for cash BUT don't expect that if you do payments. Cash is Cash but not to them. Their building is nice and the equipment is up to date BUT it shows in their prices. $2100 for a deep clean and another $2000 for enamel colored fillings. Laughable. Said they would help me out and did NOTHING to aid in keeping me as a client. First place i called after denying the fillings laughed at the estimate they gave and told me "we will do just as good of a job and expect to pay way under that..." I needed work done immediately and even told them i researched what normal range pricing is for the type of work i needed and they wanted 4 times the amount and didn't even flinch giving me the estimate. read more

My first visit at stephens Gatewood was amazing! All of the staff were super welcoming, nice and smiley. I made an appointment a few weeks in advance and when I got there they couldn't look it up which was okay I was able to be seen at the time I scheduled. The office is clean and they give you an initial tour which is helpful because the place is so big you could get lost in there! They asked me quite a bit of questions about my health history and were very throughout about my exam which made me feel very comfortable. After I met Dr.Stephens I went to see the hygienist for my cleaning. I was quoted just a little over 100$ for a cleaning and was then told I needed a deep cleaning and scaling. I understand I haven't been to the dentist in a few years and I was confident that the offices treatment plan for me was accurate. However, the bill came out to be over $1000 and they couldn't finish the cleaning that day. I simply told the office that I couldn't afford such a high bill and had no idea it was going to be like that. The ladies at stephens Gatewood tried really hard to bring the bill down to a lower price and gave me a fairly reasonable discount and I will always appreciate them working with me. It was very nice and fair of them. I still went to another dentist and got everything they were going to do for hundreds of dollars less than the discount even was. I love Stephens Gatewood I think they are the great establishment. If you're on a budget like I am it might not be the most affordable place. read more

We have tried other dentists in the area, but none come close to the wonderful experience we have had with this practice. Just recently they kept my 14 year old son from having 4 unnecessary fillings that another dentist told us needed to be done! The equipment is state of the art, the staff and dentists are exceptionally trained and we will never again see anyone else. We drive 45 minutes (27 miles) now to go to this practice! read more

I received an excellent and thorough teeth cleaning from Allie. She provided education during the cleaning to let me know which areas I needed to pay more attention to in brushing and how to properly floss my teeth. The office is pleasant, every room has a tv and a large window with views to greenery. The views are a welcome distraction when you are sitting in the chair for an hour! Dr. Glick was also wonderful. He was attentive and listened to my concerns. He fixed my chipped teeth and did a perfect job matching the color of the amalgam to the color of my teeth. My teeth look great. Everyone, from front desk, billing, hygienists, and dentists are professional, personable, and are excellent! They do a great job addressing questions and concerns and provide unparalleled customer care. Shout out to Michelle at the Auburn Lakes location -- she is wonderful and makes our 6 month cleanings a pleasure. Noteworthy too was the after hours call Dr Gatewood made to check on my husband following dental crown work completed earlier that day. Dr Boecker and Dental Assistant Jeanne did a great job when I recently broke a tooth and needed a crown replaced. Even though I hadn't worked with them previously, they were excellent and really helped me feel comfortable with the process. Everyone here knows their stuff! It saddens me to give Stephens & Gatewood Dentistry a bad review because I once gave them a good one. The good one was based on what a wonderful staff they have and how clean their facility always is and that is still true. Unfortunately for me though, the final results of my orthodontics wasn't so great! When I was a teenager, I wore braces and my top teeth were completely straight. They were still working on the bottom ones when I stopped getting them adjusted due to a family crises, because of this I know first hand that there is no reason he shouldn't have been able to correct the one tooth that was no longer in line with the others. Instead Dr. Gatewood pulled my front two teeth out like a rabbit and I was in tears. He moved them back but never corrected the tooth that was pushed back. On the bottom I had a tooth in the back that he did bring forward but it turned one of my other teeth outwards instead of it curving into line like it did when we started. At first he said "don't worry we will fix them and you will be happy" then it was this is the best I can do because of your jaw. That's not the truth though. I think the truth is I paid it all in advance so he wasn't concerned with continuing to work on them if he wasn't going to get any more money. The reason I say that is because he did on several occasions tell me how if I would fix the chip in my tooth and level out the ones that look a little uneven they would look better. Yes I believe that's true but that wouldn't change the fact that my teeth were and are still crooked. If I didn't know for sure what he was saying was a lie, I would accept it, but I know for a fact that if the other orthodontist could have straighten my top teeth than he should have been able to do the same. It seems like every time I watch TV there's an orthodontics commercial and I wonder. What if I would have chosen them? Would my teeth be straight? Would I have the smile I wanted? The smile I almost had when I was kid? I guess I'll never know because I paid almost $5,000 to wrong orthodontist :-( read more
