This is a total of TWO 5-STAR REVIEWS, combined into one. Stereo 1 recently installed an aftermarket GPS/starter kill switch device on my car. Mechanics won't do this, but Stereo1 handled it. Why 2 reviews? In April 2024, I walked into Stereo1 with the goal of getting as much bass as I could without taking up any trunk or passenger space. Long story short: this business does not do custom installs, despite appearances. For a long time, I was unsure about the stereo I got from S1, for two reasons: the self-powered AIO Pioneer subwoofer definitely adds bass that isn't possible with mid size speakers, but there's just no comparison to a sub in a sealed box powered by a separate amp--even if I got 2 more AIO subwoofers, and this was never made clear to me. I resented this for a while. Also, my stereo was supposed to be louder, but I never got the amp for the 6x9 JBL Club speakers I got, because Crutchfield advised against doing so due to supposed "limitations on a hybrid". I went back to S1, and Sam was surprised to hear what Crutchfield said. I said if he could confirm that an amp could be installed, to call me so I could buy it and have them install. After that, I never heard back from S1. So I felt like I was left with a stereo that 1) didn't have satisfactory bass 2) overkill speakers that could not be powered sufficiently 3) I was suspicious about being ripped off on components and install. I had initially left a 5 star review because I first appreciated how easy Sam made the transaction, and I did believe I had upgraded my car stereo even if it wasn't giving me the joy I was seeking. However, after days and weeks of driving with a stereo that I wished was louder, I deleted my 5 star review. Fast forward to Jan 2026, and I got another car exactly the same as the one prior and I wanted to try the original mission again but using AI for advice the entire way. As it turned out, what I got from S1 was 1) definitely appropriate for the limitations I was working with 2) reasonably priced 3) could've handled the amp for the speakers, so Sam was actually on the right track, but he just never called me back, so he didn't make more money, and I didn't get more power (but at least I didn't pay more money). And I also got a quote from S1 for another install. I get nervous at businesses where pricing and costs are opaque and aren't clearly labeled and posted, and instead are calculated on the fly. It's not a good look, and I hate the feeling I get when I suspect I might be getting ripped off. I got a quote, and I thought I could do better with a business that offered an hourly rate for installs, so I went to a different business. At the end of the day, I think I would've paid about the same at S1. I support small, local business. And I always got knowledgeable service and total professionalism at S1. I came to S1 with a vision and unrealistic expectations. Looking back, S1 is a 5-star car stereo business for any consumer not looking for custom jobs/custom subwoofer boxes & custom installs. And they have car alarm and aftermarket modifications specialists. Not a ripoff. A legit business offering service professionalism, quality components and quality installs. And I've actually returned once for a minor speaker concern & corresponding minor repair. What I thought was a blown speaker was just a corroded speaker wire. 5 Stars. read more

Paid $60 for an "inspection" and The technician did not remove the unit, did not check wiring or fuses, and simply told me "the radio is not working," which was already obvious. He just sat in the car. Felt very dishonest and misleading. Would not recommend. I visited your Northridge location and paid $60 for a diagnostic -- I have the card receipt. Took my car here for a viper alarm with remote start and paid 850$ didn't bother to check elsewhere which is my fault. Then came back since they did my viper alarm for new speakers and then they charged me 500 just to remove 4 panels unplug and plug in new ones. Didn't really look around but when i asked elsewhere they told me the same viper alarm with installation would be 540$. I called back and talked to alex and asked him how much it would cost for a amp, 12' kickers, box, installation and said 17-1900$ or so i forgot. I asked alex why they charged me so much for the alarm and he told me because the rent they have to pay for that location and the other places rent is probably cheaper but when i went those 2 past times it was empty. They weren't doing much so im guessing they charged more cause they are slow. Overall sure they did a good job but if what alex said is true then its better to go somewhere off the blvd for the same work. Overall i wouldve saved 310$ if i wouldve gone elsewhere for that. Purchased a Pioneer stereo for my daughter's car. Spent over $1500 for a stereo and the worst install job ever. The installers did not properly connect all speakers. When I called back to the shop and asked why the sound was so poor they said I needed new speakers. I had a mobile installer come and give me an estimate for new speakers. He showed me the poor job this stereo shop did. Out of 6 speakers only 4 were connected. He said this is a typical stereo shop tactic to get you to buy new speakers. Suffice to say, stay away from this shady shop. Their installers do a half ass job. I'll post my receipt. You sold me a Pioneer Stereo with installation. Your installers did a crappy job. I normally don't write reviews unless something is really bad and worth warning others about. However in this case I felt obligated to write one for Stereo 1 for the exact opposite reason. Sam and Alex were very helpful and friendly from the get go, but what really sold me on this place is that after installing a new head unit, sub, and speakers - I realized that the head unit didn't have a damn knob for volume! I tried to get used to it but it absolutely drove me insane. The idea that after market head units don't have this is just ridiculous. I am not one to even send food back if there's something wrong with it but in this situation I absolutely had to go back and ask them to put the factory unit in. Fully expecting him to charge me more labor to do this, I offered to attempt to uninstall it myself and just get my money back for the head unit and I'd put back in the factory unit on my own time. But Sam not only offered to put it back in, but offered to also refund the money spent on parts for the head unit, steering wheel control module, and a couple of other connectors. It's possible the amount he refunded me didn't quite add up to all of the part costs, maybe to consider a small fee for an uninstallation/reinstallation job - but the math seemed correct and I didn't feel like I got ripped off at all. I was very shocked by this, and truly appreciated it. Sam is an honest business man and truly cares about the satisfaction of his customers. He definitely did not have to do what he did but it is greatly appreciated. I'll certainly be telling anyone who needs audio to go to Stereo 1 in the future. Thanks again read more

From the moment I walked into Stereo1, it was a very comfortable feeling, it's not about appearances, it's about a very wide range of selection. I met Sam and we hit it off immediately. Sam is very personable, he took his time listening to what I wanted, what I'd looked at and most important - had exactly what I wanted fir the Pioneer head unit replacing an aged Bose head unit, which would update to touch, Apple car play, integrated Bluetooth and back up camera along with letting me know all the adapters and the bluetooth module I'd need for the Bluetooth to work properly. They left nothing out, something most shops do not do. I am very impressed. Sam and TJ explained everything that would be needed for the install of the head unit and also noted I may need door speakers, since the car had the original Bose amp, it did not need to be replaced. They were right about the door speakers, once the car came out of the body shop I noticed tell tale distortion noting age from the car sitting so long ruined the original Bose door speakers. I had no issue asking sam to put in JBL pro-series in-door speakers x4. When I picked up the car, I met with Sam who then had his tech Julio explain everything I needed to know about the new head unit and its features. Having worked at a car stereo shop many years ago, I had two songs we used long ago we always tested the stereo installs with, Aja by Steely Dan for vocal, low mid and high ranges which if you never heard, once the song starts cookin', really tests a stereo's range and She's Mine by Steve Perry for channel separation unless you prefer some Pink Floyd excerpts from Dark Side of the Moon or Alan Parsons Project. The installation is great, even though the old bezel was old and cracked, Sam has found a nbew one for me and will install it once it arrives. The sound, well the words "Holy Sh-t" don't express my passion or gratitude for what Sam's team has done. HD Radio or Apple car play sound is phenomenal! I know my audio well and this system delivers everything I wanted and more. The Pioneer EX head unit coupled with the Bose amp and sound reproduction is simply amazing! The back-up camera works like a charm. I was spoiled with my 2010 Infiniti G37 sedan for 11 years before it got totalled, now driving a 2005 Nissan Altima with low miles with this new system I believe this system is much better than the Infiniti! The cost was very reasonable, Sam gave me everything I'd asked and I'm very pleased. For anyone looking for great service, great sound reproduction in a new or used vehicle, I highly recommend Sam and his team at Stereo1 for all of your car audio needs. Would have loved to write a positive review for this business Since the owner Sam is somewhat nice and offered for us to come back an get it fixed again but I just couldn't. His employees are horrible! My dad took in his vehicle to get a new radio on it. They installed a radio that "they had never installed", (words from one of the workers) so they were googling on how to install and make it work, we could have done that ourselves. The radios DVD didn't work, after a whole day we took it in the next day and they switched it out for a different radio. I confirmed with the owner that it would have the same features/usb on radio etc and he said EXACTLY THE SAME. When we picked up the car again this is on day 2, the radio was different and was not the same. Well here we go again, they had to remove it AGAIN and reinstall another one. At the end the USB did not work, and here we are. Beyond annoyed, frustrated and didn't end up getting what we wanted after spending $1600. Keep in mind now the cars dashboard has been taken apart 3 times. Sams employee J (can't remember his full name) tried to run us over with our car. When I brought up to the owners attention and stated to check the cameras he smiled and said "the cameras don't record". Seems like he just didn't want to bother in checking footage. Sams employee TJ was also super gluing parts that he had broken off when installing and he stated to my dad that it was because the car was f*****g old. Again, no way of speaking to a client. Save your time and money, go elsewhere! Products are expensive and you pay so much for a crappy labor. read more
