I found this place when I searched for hoarding clean up in San Diego. A very beloved friend was in need. She and I have worked for many months on cleaning up her house, but we didn't have it in us to continue weekend after weekend. I gave these guys a call 2 weeks ago and learned what they do. They have a pretty extreme variety of service options but they customize it to your situation I used my trusty iPhone and sent them videos of the house so they could get me an accurate estimate. It certainly wasn't cheap and they let me know it would be less expensive if they didn't have to "sort " through much. We tried to have most things sorted but they still had to do some. They told me the guys would work from 8-5 and would take a 45 minute lunch. Steve and Aaron arrived pretty close to on time. I was concerned that my friend may have second thoughts about getting rid of things so I stayed the whole time. Steve was the obvious boss and he hustled. He was amazing. He was also extremely kind and compassionate to my friend and treated her with dignity and respect. Aaron was also very friendly but he wasn't nearly as urgent as Steve was. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that I don't think I was given a fully accurate quote. The guys left at 1230 (done for day) and we still paid the full $1750. They were on time and worked hard to get everything done. Initially there was some doubt as to whether the whole house could be done in two days, but they did it. All my questions were answered promptly from the Stephanie and Ryan and his crew. I was given my space though Ryan the lead checked in on me constantly. My only complaint would be the cleaning crew did throw away a few items I asked them not to, however that's an issue that can be solved simply by better communication on both ends as well as probably being in the room as they're clearing it (I chose not to). They are very pricey but it's worth it for the relief of having the clutter gone. I would recommend on professionalism alone. read more

Based on 5-Star Yelp reviews my family reached out to Steri-Clean a few weeks ago to clean out my family member's house. Every room of his house was filled with hoard and vermin, an accumulation caused by his lack of organization as well as an emotional need to hoard. Natalie was the estimator who immediately called us back and came out to provide a cost estimate. She is a fantastic and compassionate staff member. It is not cheap (think in the $thousands), but worth the efficiency of time (3 days nonstop), muscle power (3 guys), and stomach (rat poop, urine, etc etc) to clean a hoarder house and haul it all away. Damian and David were onsite for three full days and did a fantastic job under the circumstances. They were easy to work with, did ALL the hard labor, and did it in three days .... something my family would not have had the time or muscle to do in 3-6 months! I didn't think it would be possible , but they cleaned out nearly everything. The success of any hoarder Clean Out depends on the speed and cooperation of the hoarder himself. If they insist on looking through every piece of vermin-chewed-up paper or insist a piece of trash is necessary to keep, then the hoarder is working against the Team and it will be money wasted. So before you cut that check you have to make sure there will be 100% buy-in by the hoarder or, in our instance, that the hoarder has family or friends who have the influence and patience to convince the hoarder to let it all go. This company was awesome. We have a house in Westminster, California, that due to circumstances, became vacant. While in its vacant state the house became occupied by a group of homeless people. They pretty much destroyed the interior of the house leaving garbage all around and spraying graffiti throughout the house. The bathrooms were a total mess with the toilets overflowing and bottles of waste left in the bathrooms. After contacting several companies, getting quotes as high as $15,000, we decided on Steri-Clean. They were not only professional but were very reasonable,($3,800) considering all that had to be done. They said they would be sending out a crew and two large trucks to remove everything. They arrived as schedules, worked efficiently, and were done in about 4 hours. The crew leader told me that they were able to finish faster than expected and offered to rip out and haul away the carpet too. It was not easy to find this company. We had a family member pass away unexpectedly who had been living in filth for years in an extremely unhealthy environment with animals, human squatters and plumbing that did not work. The home environment, both inside and out was full to the brim with so much stuff that we just didn't know where to begin to get it cleaned out and cleaned up so that we could even begin to determine whether there was anything in the home that could be salvaged or whether it all needed to be torn down to the walls. We met with Robert McKeever who came out and looked at the situation for us. He explained exactly what services Steri-Clean would be able to perform for us and provided us with a written estimate and was able to schedule an appointment for us right away. He also let us know what we would need to do prior to Steri-Clean performing services for us and what they could and could not do (with regard to hazardous materials and how they would be sorted out on the day of clean-up, etc.) On the day the service was scheduled a roll-off container was delivered to the driveway and another truck came as well. A crew that was compassionate, caring and truly professional arrived on time to walk us through the process. The crew worked with our "family crew" to help us work as fast as we all could to get a huge amount of work done in an 8-hour period. With the help of the crew and the teams expertise and packing and loading as well as their equipment we were able to get almost all of the job done in just one day. We did have a half-away company come to pick up additional items too. However, the work completed by Steri-clean was so thorough that we were able to call in an estate sale company to go through everything that they helped us determine was worth a "second look" and also helped us put the house in a condition that enabled us to put it up for sale "as is." We would have been totally lost as to what to do and where to start had it not been for the guidance and help provided by the great staff and workers from Steri-Clean. My sister-in-law found this company through some research, to help get my parents' house cleaned up. My effort at cleaning was just not going to cut it, and my mother's health was officially a concern. We called on Sunday, Robert called back Monday and I had pictures to him by EOD. He called back Tuesday first thing with a quote, and had a team ready for Wednesday. Five guys. One day. Three trucks of trash, one truck of donations. 20 years of clutter and stress... gone. The start time was 8 a.m. and they were there by 7:30, ready to run by 8. Aside from the efficiency of it all, the entire team was very professional and compassionate to my mother, who was resistant to even showing up. Steve walked her through all that was happening, made sure that she was comfortable with what was going on. The rest of the team was just as great with her. They clearly understand the emotional stress on the people involved, and they acted appropriately. Yes, it's an expensive service. There is no question about that. And, yes, I was having a bit of anxiety the day before about the cost of this. But at the end of the day, absolutely no regrets. What a wonderful company! We asked them to clean out a house that was full of stuff, and I mean FULL. They came and did a fantastic job. They were very sensitive to the fact that there were a lot of memories in the house for my family. They saved everything we asked them to save that was salvageable but got rid of all the junk and unnecessary mess. They even went ahead and saved some things they thought we might like to keep that we hadn't thought of listing. It was a large job and a very dirty job, but they were thorough, thoughtful and kind. They were careful with sensitive items and paperwork, and especially family photos and scrapbooks. I personally met three of the members of the crew that did the cleaning. They were some of the nicest people you will ever meet. They sincerely love helping clients and they work with smiles and sensitivity. They understand how hard it is for people to have strangers come in and help families clean. They worked quickly, but carefully. I got to meet April, Della and Austin. They were fantastic. They felt like new friends when we said goodbye. I told them they are angels. Also, the street at the house was very narrow, and there was not a good place to park a dumpster. They called the dumpster each day and hustled to fill it while it was parked in the street. These folks are heroes in my book. We started cleaning the house out ourselves, but the job was overwhelming for us. Steri-Clean came in and did the lion's share of the work and we are so grateful for their help. Carol was our contact person and coordinator for the job, and she was always available to answer questions and handle important details. She even came a did some of the work herself, which was special since the job was a long distance from their home base. I actually wanted to rate them 4.5 (but its not letting me). i would have rated them a 5, except the cleaner showed up over an hour late. however he did call to let me know and still stayed the agreed upon amount of time (actually he stayed a little over, without an extra charge, which more than made up for being late). i called the office several times with questions before hiring, and Natalie was so polite, patient, reassuring and understanding. she answered all of my questions and really put my mind at ease. Although I still recommend this company, when the summer months came along with the heat, the smell came back with a vengeance. They said that they worked on my car for almost a week and it was the worst they had seen. I believe them. It's hard to imagine who smoked so much in that new car that it was ruined after less than 10K miles, but it was pretty well masked by the Chevy dealer (Chapman Chevrolet in Phoenix- I will NEVER deal with them again), and I got screwed. I had to sell the car as I just couldn't take it anymore and dropped it off at Carmax. I'm sure a smoker bought it at a great deal. I unfortunately am a hoarder and I needed help to get rid of stuff to get my house ready to sell. I found Steri-Clean online at hoarder.com and Figured they were what I needed. Stephanie came and and gave me a quote and originally said Three days three tech and I said no because it would be over $10, 000. So she gave me a quote for 2 days 3 techs and I knew I would have more to do myself, but that should have made it much more doable. That was supposed to be 2 - 6 hour days, but she didn't tell me they took 2 very long breaks as well. The first day was terrible! Yes I wanted to get rid of most of my furniture, but everything just went in bag, boxes or on the floors. I was told that the techs would do all the work and I just needed to be there to tell them what to keep, toss or save. That is not at all what happened. In fact, I hurt so bad after they left that it was hard to sleep. I was told by the tech that usually clients just point to an area and say what to do with a whole section at a time. That is not a hoarder! We have gold mixed with trash and everything needs to be looked at. The second day was better because we all just worked on the garage and that day they would open something up let me look throught it and then make the appropriate designation. But still with just me, 3 techs were not that busy. I can see were someone who has a place to clean out that has nothing but crap usually from others, that this service would work. But they are not good with hoarders who not only have everything mixed together, but also have to deal with the psychological issues. I liked the techs just fine, but I don't think this service lives up to what they advertise and are too expensive for what you get. My house looks worse than it did before and a third day probably would not have been any better. Just for reference, I am a 63 year old hoarder, but no dead animals and you could walk to every room in my house even though some rooms were quite full. I have 3 children and did not want to mess around with the mess the rodents left. From the get go, Natalie was responsive, helpful, and accommodating. I was quoted $800 to remove the smoke smell from a small passenger car. Their website states that "most cars" can be done for $375. Without looking at my car, the price is more than double? I went to the chat-line after to ask why there was a big difference in the price. Her response was that each location makes their own prices. If that's the case, why are they sharing a website with prices on it? According to the other reviews, they do a pretty good job but I think they aren't honest or at least straight forward with their pricing. Sucks because I really wanted to use them... I've used Steri-Clean twice now, once for myself just to get rid of some clutter and the second time to clear out my Mom's condo after she passed away. My Mom had mild OCD with maybe a Level 1 cluttering habit. I can't begin to tell you how nice, knowledgeable, professional, and helpful the folks at Steri-Clean are. Natalie is one of the project managers. She's the one who comes out a surveys the "damage" so to speak and writes up and estimate. She is so sweet and makes you feel so comfortable while she's doing it. She is non-judgmental or critical of the situation. She is calm, friendly, and pays the utmost attention to all the detail. She walks you through exactly what will happen. It's such a pleasure working with someone who will not judge you. You already are feeling a little embarrassed and the last thing you need is someone coming into your house and judging you. The workers that come out are also very professional know their stuff and work really hard on clearing the place out. Steve who worked my first job, told me, "I'm just going to let you tell me where stuff should go and I'll take care of it from there" he hustled and it took him and another guy about 3 hours and after it was decluttered, he made beds and placed lights where there were none and just made it so much homier. The second team for my Mom's house was made up of Edson and Brandon, who were both equally qualified. My Mom had tons of stuff in drawers and closets and every nook and cranny of her house. She never let anyone help her declutter, so she basically had 30 years of accumulated stuff. Edson and Brandon started promptly at 8:00 a.m. and were done by Noon. They filled a 16ft truck to the brim with all the belongings we did not want, furniture, old jewelry, etc. They actually donate (give you the receipt), trash, and recycle. This was so much easier than me and my siblings going through everything and taking it to donate or recycle ourselves. I will say, we did spend a couple of weekends going through everything to determine what to keep. After we had done that, we were safe in knowing everything else was to go. AMAZING!!! I can't give these guys enough stars. My mom-in-law is a hoarder of consignment antiques and I didn't really think it would be like the bad pics I've seen on tv, but it was. Her oldest son from TX and my husband convinced her it was time to change and spent their bonus money to revamp the condo and put me in charge of organizing, while his mom agreed to stay in a hotel. Am I glad I found Steri-Clean! Robert was the empathetic guy I spoke to on the phone and provided the quote. He's very responsive - even answered the phone at 7:30am Sunday morning! After seeing pics of the place, and with our limited budget, Robert mentioned that the team may not be able to finish everything in one day, but they would get most of it done. Sold! - at least we would be able to manage the rest. The 5-man team of hoarding heroes showed up with a dump truck and moving truck. Steve was the lead man and was beyond excellent and pleasant. Each guy nicely introduced himself. They were very polite and once they got started, WOW!! Can these guys MOVE! Trash can load after load, they trashed the trash and put aside the stuff going to storage, heaving heavy loads over their shoulders with non-stop movement. I didn't feel pushed - I didn't feel I was in the way. I felt like a queen, to be quite honest. The quote was for a 6 hour day - 8-2pm - and they only took a couple short breaks, working very steadily. They dumped what needed to be dumped and moved what needed to be moved into our storage unit. I called several companies to obtain quotes to clean my home after an unexpected event. Some companies did not call back, while others looked to take advantage of our vulnerable situation. Corey came by our home the following day and provided us with his quote later that night. Before being awarded the work he left a gallon of cleaning solution as a courtesy. His pricing was fair and he did not try to scare or gouge us on price. The Steri-Clean team showed up 24 hours later and in one day had our home total scrubbed and cleaned. The cleanup of our garage and several rooms in our home was done by an incredible crew of hardworking and skilled technicians from Stericlean. They were unfazed by the tasks they confronted and were extremely sensitive to what things I wanted to locate and keep. An irreplaceable 170 page handwritten autobiography written by my father in law was found by Vincent right at the end of the cleanup. I was emotionally exhausted and wanted to just toss an old duffle bag he brought out of the garage. He gently offered to help me sort it and he found this treasure in a torn paper bag. After 2 days of cleaning the house can still bring 3 grown men brought to the house for furniture moving 2weeks later to vomiting on the front lawn after a short time in the house!!! My wife and I can't say enough about this company. We recently purchased a vehicle which smelled like smoke (after about a week of owning it). We took the vehicle back to the dealership twice to have the smoke smell removed. Each time, the smell was masked over and smelled like smoke again after about a week. We were having a baby which was due within a week and needed the smell gone. After contacting Steri-Clean, they immediately took us in and removed all of the smoke smell from the vehicle. I have mixed feelings about this company. The positive: they helped me make space so that the whole family could celebrate the holiday together. For that, I am grateful. However, I am not sure the process or the result was worth the fee charged. As another reviewer wrote, they didn't stay for an 8 hour day. In our case, it was mostly me wanting to be done with them because I was beyond frustrated! They did ask me to tell them what I wanted them to do, when they understood I was not happy, but when I told them, even in detail, they did not seem to comprehend. They were not able (or not knowledgeable enough) to sort things, which was what I needed help with, and which is what had been taking me so much time. I had explained to the person who booked the appointment what I needed and that there was no issue of unsanitary or unsafe conditions.The crew that arrived was all male, which I hadn't thought to ask about. I needed someone with a rudimentary knowledge of art and craft supplies; they wanted to shovel stuff and actually brought a snow shovel into the house! ("Do you need all these inks pads?" "Yes." "Why?" "Because each one is a different color." This is not a discussion I would have with another female; sorry, guys.) They wanted to shove items into the bins I provided with absolutely no organization or listing of contents, and did it too rapidly for me to make lists for the bin-filling two people were doing. As a result, I have about 25 large plastic totes which could all be labeled "miscellaneous." This was NOT helpful, especially since it was a few days before Christmas and my wrapping supplies were somewhere in the "miscellaneous." ( Before the cleanup, the needed items were on the couch...) Since then, anytime I need to find anything, I have to root through EVERYTHING. I am slowly going through everything, trying to make some sense of it, but what do you do with an assortment that includes--in one tote--3 bottles of ink (out of a set of about 40 I haven't found yet), an oven mitt, three clean socks, a couple of rolls of ribbon, two sports cards from my husband's collection, my phone book and Christmas card list, a bill.....you see the problem? At least five times in the past two weeks I have had to simply purchase duplicate items because I ran out of time to hunt further. Unfortunately, all the searching I've had to do means I now have 25 bins AND the beginning of a new, potentially-unmanageable mess. Why I fired Steri-clean, aka., Crime Scene, Crime Cleaners, Hoarders.com, to name a few. I want to preface my comments by stating that this is more of a concern than a complaint and a first hand observation about my personal experience with this company. In 2014 we hired Cory Chalmers company Steri-Clean to clean up one very small bathroom that was built in 1955. Three significant things happened. First, the initial bid estimate was not as transparent as the final invoice. The initial bid estimate was vague and general with an estimated cost compared to the final invoice that outlined every single supply they had to purchase and use for the job down to a single razor blade and rental equipment. Second concern was that the job was estimated for 3 workers, but only 2 showed up. Not having enough workers for the job means more money to extend the workday to get the original job done. But this didn't stop them from trying to pad the invoice by an additional 13% after I told them to stop. The third concern was that they worked for 5 hours on a 6-hour job and then called to get additional supplies and projects approved. I thought it was suspect because the calls came within the last 60 minutes of the finish time. One was to bring in their construction contractor $$$ because they said that the job "turned structural" within their final work hour (W.T.H) ? The final thing that they didn't mention is that they also use the final invoice as a conversation log. So when you submit the final bill to your client, it will have conversation notes written in the sidelines that you have had with their office staff and on-sight workers. Cory Chalmers told me that they do this on every invoice to protect themselves against possible LITIGATION ? Sounds like they been through this before. The main reason why I had to fire Steri-Clean is because the final cost was growing rapidly and the end was far out of sight. Some biohazard companies rely on your high emotions for their big bucks. Have the company give you an itemized cost estimate UP FRONT, instead of general canned comments about the scope of the work they may perform. If they won't give it to you, or they say they cannot, then RUN FAST. They obviously know how much their supplies, materials and hourly labor would cost because they give it to you in the final invoice right ? Second, make sure they have enough people that actually show up to complete the job for the time they say they can finish. If they don't, you can expect to pay the cost of their extra time. Third, be very SUSPECT if a company calls you within the last hour to tell you that the job is going to cost a lot more than originally estimated for or that they have to bring in other professionals. This is when your B.S. meter should be sounding its alarm, especially when they have been working in the same area of the house for hours. Crime Scene Steri-Clean were amazing! Losing a loved one is never easy but when you have to have an area cleaned due to bio-hazardous materials at the same time, it can be very overwhelming. We contacted the first company that came up on Google which was Aftermath. We needed a small room cleaned and products disposed of (half of the room) and Aftermath quoted us $30k!!!! That was outrageous! We didn't know what to do as we could not afford that. We kept doing research and came across this company. From the first call, they were nothing but nice and helpful. They not only quoted us a SIGNIFICANTLY lower amount, they came that day, did an amazing job and even provided a cleaning certificate for us. The home of a close family member was cluttered by extreme hoarding and red-tagged by our city. We needed a company to come out fast and help us clear it out. Steri-Clean was at our family's residence within a day to give us a quote. Upon approval of the estimated cost, they were working 3 days later. The team was always courteous and hard-working. We were very impressed by their attention to detail (setting aside items and boxes of things of value for us to sort through). They were able to complete the job earlier than expected and with amazing results.
