Enough was enough and it was time to get my moms house cleaned. I thought my dad was the culprit of all the clutter, but in the six years since he has been gone, the house hasn't been properly maintained. Items my dad placed in places some years ago were exactly left as if they were frozen in time. My mom is getting to the point where decisions need to be made on her behalf. As her only son, I felt obligated to help my mom out. Part of the problem may be due to the weight of the messy house weighing on her shoulders. I wrote an email and received a phone call from Natalie. We scheduled a time where she could come take a look at my moms house. Natalie was professional the entire time. They had the mandate that everything must go and if there were any questions let me know and I would make the decision. We knocked out a cluttered backyard in an hour and a half! We then moved into the garage. That took the longest. As before, the mandate was get rid of it and if there were any questions let me know. When we moved into the house it was easier and the job was done quickly and efficiently. It did take a full day but it was well worth it. Having successfully come out the other side of a very long depression, I found myself surrounded by mountains of mess and stuff, to the point where I could barely navigate my apartment. That's what happens when one basically zones out for four years, I guess. Just looking at and trying to figure out some way of digging out from underneath my "Ode to Depression" work of art was exhausting. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on how one looks at it), I was forced by a water heater leak and flood into having to do something immediately to facilitate the necessary repairs. Four technicians arrived, and in 7 hours managed to do what I never, ever could have done by myself, or even with a few friends and family (not that I would have had the nerve to ask them!). On the face of it, this was expensive....I will be working a lot of overtime to pay it down, for sure; however, when I considered how much time, energy, driving, probable off-work time (for which I don't get paid), it was worth it. I bought a condo that happened to have a smoker who lived there previously. He claimed he only smoked on the balcony, but of course it permeated the condo. The seller tried to mask the smell, so at this point it smelled like a combination of cigarettes/old motel/old man. Weird combo. I called Steri-Clean way too early on a Sunday morning, thinking I'd just leave a message. They answered the phone(!) and gave me a rough estimate of what it would cost, so I could decide if I wanted to go through with the sale. Instant gratification at its finest! Once escrow closed, the crew came in and did their thing. The two guys that did the job were really great. Professional, but personable. All I had to do was be there to open the door, they did everything. The next day I came back, they had cleaned everything up so there was no evidence of them ever there, and aired out the place for me. The best part? No cigarette/motel/old man smell! They warned me it would smell sort of like chlorine for a bit, but I barely smelled that. It was such a relief that the smell was gone, since this is my new home! There are NOT enough stars available to rate Steri-Clean properly. Our cleanup was completed on the 11th of August, and the entire experience was just amazing! Through four long months of planning, Natalie was so patient, understanding and beyond professional in every aspect of the project. We cleaned out my brother-in-law's condominium in Los Angeles. The HOA and City introduced obstacles at every turn, in trying to organize the logistics, and Natalie conquered every problem, and encouraged us along the way, when it seemed like this clean up would never happen. When clean up week finally arrived, Steve and his crew far surpassed any hopes we had, when it came to their efficiency, and the care and compassion they showed for the emotional value of my brother-in-law's items. Steve had an incredible ability to coordinate an outstanding team and to keep the project moving. Overall, I think we removed 6-8 tons of trash and furniture, and the end result was nothing short of spectacular. This weekend, we are putting final touches on my brother-in-law's home, and he will be returning to a beautiful space, thanks to Natalie, Steve, and EVERYONE at Steri-Clean. Our family has been trying to clean out our mother's 3,000 sq. ft. house for a year and a half. From what I read on-line, this would be considered a level four hoarding situation. Every room of the house was filled with stuff and we could not get in the front door. After going through the house several times ourselves and looking for important papers and photos we were ready to get help. We chose Steri-Clean because we felt they offered more services than other companies. Natalie, our contact in the office and project manager, was great to work with. The crew, lead by Brandon, arrived early every day. They had the bottom floor cleared out in a day and the most of the second story the next day. They pulled up all the carpet and took down all the drapes. They vacuumed and swept and got rid of all the cobwebs. Then they sprayed the house with a sanitizing agent. We told the crew to keep an eye out for items we were looking for such as our Dad's military uniforms and photos. When they found something, they brought it right to us. The crew is trained to sort items into trash, donations, recycle and e-waste. They bring a truck just to handle the donations. I feel that we hired the right company to clean out our mother's house. Steri-Clean did an AMAZING job clearing out a large family home and helped us get through a difficult process. They were not the cheapest estimate (but not the highest) and well worth it for the additional services they provide. The Project Manager, Natalie, was very considerate and did a good job of arranging everything. The crew members worked quickly, but were courteous and took time to consider whether items might be valuable or important to us. They sorted items into keep, sell, donate, shred, e-waste, metal, and trash. They took down drapes and pulled up carpet. Steri-Clean filled 4 big 40 cu yd dumpsters with trash (see pic of the house with the crew lead, Brandon, carrying two full trash barrels to a dumpster). Afterward, they vacuumed, wiped surfaces and sprayed the house with a disinfectant. Steri-Clean took away a truckload of items to be donated. They arranged for a metal hauling company to come and fill a truck with appliances, electronics, etc. Once the junk was cleared away, we were able to sell numerous furnishings and household items. We were happy that many things would find new homes or be recycled and not end up in the landfill. Our real estate agent and estate sale company were impressed with the speed and efficiency of the job and said they had never seen anything like it. This company and its employees are AMAZING! My mom had surgery in late March and my husband and I took the opportunity to make sure that her home (which she had not let us see for 15 years) was safe for her to go home to. We expected hoarding, but were completely unprepared for the state of her one bedroom condo. She is considered a level 5 hoarder based on the amount of pet waste. I am a professional organizer and had been working on cleaning out a hoarded house in El Cajon for a year, getting it ready for a remediation crew to clean it out. I've worked with Steri-Clean many times in my 16 years as an organizer and have always been impressed by their professionalism and good work. I hired Steri-Clean again just last week, on July 14; they came right on time and got to work. The job had been estimated at 6 hours but ran into 9 hours because of all the stuff, despite all my bagging and boxing and organizing efforts ahead of time. I had even moved a 16' truck full of furniture out of the house just a month before to lighten the load. Frankly this was grueling for the crew who set to work and kept going with a smile, despite not even stopping for lunch or taking any breaks. Instead of two runs to the dump and recycling facility, they not only made those 2 runs but had to load up the truck for a third and final run before they left, to be disposed of that next morning. Natalie, project manager and my "go to person" helped me every step of the way. The house I needed to clean was a level 5 out of 5 hoarder house. I had no clue where to start. I flew in, called Natalie and we met at the house within hours. She was extremely knowledgeable, caring and very sensitive to the homeowner and me. Natalie asked questions and found out what we wanted to accomplish in this home project. We gave her a list of items we wanted to find, save and put into staging area (holding area). I had been trying to clean my mother's home by myself for the past six months. All I was able to clean off was the patio. And much of that stuff I had to leave in the yard. I don't have the strength or endurance anymore to move much. I had Steri-Clean out to my mother's home this last week. They arrived on time and were very professional all the way along. It was emotional for me and my brother, and the team understood. The guys did a great job! The supervisor, Fred, and his team were hard working, yet thorough. They listened to all of family's concerns, and asked how we wanted to handle stuff, then acted accordingly. They allowed us to watch over their shoulders (sometimes getting in their way) and solicited as to whether something was to keep, donate or trash, all with a pleasant attitude. They were never accusatory about how bad the house was, even though I was embarrassed. The Steri-Clean team here in North Carolina did a terrific job of cleaning out a very old and dilapidated house that was on property that we bought next door to us. The only way we were able to purchase the property was on the condition that we searched the entire house for the previous owner's list of items that she wanted delivered to her, so this was not just a clean out. It meant we had to look through everything before throwing it away. Some of the rooms were full to the ceiling with stuff, and some of the floors had collapsed under the weight of the furniture, so it wasn't easy. No hidden fees, only a concise description of the work was given to us, ahead of time, to allow for any imput from the customer. Schedules for the project were set up to make it as easy as possible to work with, at the customer's convenience. The technicians were amazingly well organized and very systematic in cleaning each area of clutter. They were quick and kept a strict focus on finding special items we had indicated that might be mixed in with the trash and clutter. I was able to pay the deposit right over the phone & the job was booked fast which is great since code enforcement had given a deadline or impending fines. Kelly and team are amazing! I have a 90 lb 5 month old Great Dane who got a little too excited to see me after being boarded all weekend while i was out of town...needless to say, she showed her love by having a projectile vomit all over the dash, drivers seat, center console, and of course my head as we were pulling into the driveway. I cleaned as much as I could, but unfortunately could not get under the seat, next to the center console, and in the center console nooks and crannies. Thankfully a body shop recommended Steri-Clean, and Kelly took amazing care of me! I have to say that I was very ashamed about my situation, however, everyone from the estimator to the work people were great at putting me at ease. I was originally told there would be three laborers for three days. Only 2 were sent but Lisa and Jon were absolutely wonderful. They worked harder than any two people I've e ever seen .They were professional, polite, extremely helpful and diligent. The calmed me when I became nervous and explained everything they were doing and why. Since I was shorted a body they came an extra day to finish the job at no additional cost. I cannot say how much this meant to me. I would recommend Lisa and Jon to anybody who has issues with hoarding. I arrived in Corona when my mom ended up in the hospital to discover that she is a hoarder. Her home was unfit and unsafe for her to return to after surgery. Word of warning when they are "cleaning out your house" watch everything they remove. I asked the young men to get rid of junk and ask me about other stuff. I am missing an in the box new printer, a set of three unopened teflon pans, etc. I understand that control is an issue and knew it wasn't a good idea to watch them as it would take longer and I might have kept more than I should. Fortunately, I happened to see my sewing kit in the garbage can and retrieved that in addition to another unopened casserole dish. That took them all day and actually what was left is true junk. I'm wondering if someone takes these new items and resells them. All of these issues are just some of the things I'm missing.
