Hired to paint the exterior of my stucco house and redo my deck. This company made avoidable careless mistakes & sloppy work. They first pressure washed the stucco and didn't cover my pool properly and large pieces of stucco on bottom and damaged my pool heater that they also left uncovered getting paint & stucco deep inside. I was promised that there would be someone onsite to supervise everyday, the supervisor ELI only showed up the first day or last day to pick up the check. They painted my stucco house in shinny semi gloss paint instead of flat. The contract says flat so they had to repaint it. So many rookie mistakes I do not trust them to do my deck. I would not recommend this company. Worst experience and I've had bad contractors in the past. They rushed the job and had to come back twice because it was incomplete. I've since been calling them for weeks to have them finish the job correctly because my ceiling was left with flaking paint falling off. See photo- It just looks like it is going to fall at any moment and after calling back for weeks they still haven't been willing to just fix it. Company just keeps passing the buck and will make you go around in circles to fix any issues that will come up. We clearly told the REP before we began doing anything to the roof that THE ONLY REASON WE WILL DO IT IF ITS DONE RIGHT. because our roof was severely damaged over the years. House was built in 1925. We decided to go ahead and do it because the REP convinced us with words that because of the damage the WHOLE ROOF. Meaning trim and the roof literally was damaged. And was going to be replaced. However. The rep exaggerated on the build. Was very careful with the words coming out of his mouth VS the actual written contract. I just recommend READ THE CONTRACT. SLOWLY. BEFORE SIGNING ANYTHING. DO NOT SIGN. NOT ONE SINGLE PAPERWORK. UNTIL CLEARLY UNDERSTANDING THE ACTUAL PROJECT TERMS AND CONDITIONS. 3 star rating because we were misled at least 3 times. But in the upside. It was done in installments and only a $1,000 deposit. I honestly think we overpaid for our project. We were disappointed mainly on the EMPTY PROMISES OF THE REP. I spent 5000 dollars to get architectural plans drawn up for an Adu. Their contract said that they have to get it approved for permitting in order to fulfill their end of the contract.. They got denied and didn't try any further to get the plans amended or approved in any way. They just shrugged their shoulders and walked away with my money. They even had the balls to call me months later and try to collect in the final installment. I wouldn't trust them at all. I still have no Adu.. And I'm tempted to just do it without permits. It's always risky to allow someone to come into your home and make changes. On 4/3/2018 Ken came to our house the give us a free estimate. $22k+ for electrical rewiring for our old house. That's 2-3 times of what Google estimates. Seeing how they have good reviews on Yelp about quality, honesty, and punctuality we gave them a try (with half the house and using a loan repayment plan with tax returns). Ken left late afternoon claiming he will get a work permit the next day before he arrives at 8 am. When he arrives , my mother asked if he got the permit . " The city hall doesn't open till 9:30. I'll have another person go pick it up"--- which if you look on the website it actually opens at 7:30 am. The workers come for a day and put holes near the outlets. Why didn't they just use the old outlet instead and replace the wire?? Some thorough explaination would be appreciated. We asked the workers what their names were but neither of the employees spoke English. We told them to write their names down . Then, I went to the city hall @ 5 pm to check if they've approved the electrical work permit that was supposedly submitted. The clerk asks confused "are you sure it's not for commercial " "no, it's for residential" " there's no permit requested " I'm livid. If you're claiming to be a legitimate company doing things by the book, it's dishonest to say that you've requested a permit when you haven't. That needs to be done prior to getting work done. We decided to cancel as we have lost trust in the people working in our house . We could have put ourselves at risk and be fined. Ken returns today (4/5) for the cancellation slip. Then changes the story that they'll get the permit BEFORE inspections. Which defeats the purpose of getting a permit... I also did more homework and ran the names on California contractor license check (Google it) none of their names popped up under the search---Though the tanzana business license was active, it's a bit fishy. Ill attach pictures so I can show what I mean. I'm sure they would have done an excellent job, but the company wasnt transparent so we've decided to not to continue our project. It was a stressful three months. I ended up spending about $7000 more than I had planned on the kitchen remodel. The Sterling electrician didn't think to put in a dedicated plug for the dishwasher - the dishwasher only worked when the garbage disposal was on. He said he couldn't fix it - that we needed to install a new breaker box and he would give us "a deal" for $5000. I hired a local electrician who quickly fixed the plug situation without blaming the breaker box. My local contractor quoted me $1800 to install an upgraded breaker box, and patch the outside stucco perfectly. Hmmmm... The tile guy never got the tiles and grout quite right. The sink backsplash tiles are not flat on the wall, and the grout keeps cracking wherever it touches the quartz counter. One of the subcontractors (plumber?) ripped out 40 sq ft of our laminate flooring before informing us we needed mold abatement ($1300). We hired a local mold abatement contractor who said there was almost no sign of mold! He treated and certified the area anyway ($650). We couldn't replace the damaged flooring, so we had to replace the flooring in the entire kitchen (an extra $4000), table area and hallway. He also reversed the cleanout under the sink, making it very difficult and messy to snake the pipe if the drain clogs. Yikes. The installers broke our gas oven. I had to pay an outside vendor to fix it ($300). Moving the appliances into the house, they scraped and damaged the new flooring. The demolition guys threw out our countertop filtered water spigot, so I had to rush home from work to buy one at Home Depot so the counter installers could finish by the end of the day because they said they weren't coming back. The plumber reassembled the under-sink water filter incorrectly, leaving out the expensive charcoal filter. I had to fix it myself. Did any of the subcontractors do a decent job? Yes. The cabinet makers/installers, the quartz countertop installers, the flooring installers were fine. I wish I had gone with the local company that remodeled my two bathrooms with no drama. read more

I had some water damage around the front windows of our home in Arcadia. Sterling contacted us via a cold call, and we had them out to give us an estimate. Zack and Danielle came to give the estimate. They were friendly and professional. During their inspection, they noticed damage due to termites. Sterling is certified to do termite treatment, and they advised us to have the treatment. They also recommended that we have rain gutters installed, as not having them likely contributed to the damage we experienced. I really appreciated that they did not pressure us to have any additional work done. In the end, after discussing the quote, we agreed to proceed. The work crew came the very next day. Victor was the foreman, and he was professional, and kept us informed of how the job was going. Zack and Danielle told us the job would take about three days to complete, and the crew delivered as promised. We are very satisfied with the results. Sterling also had a QA manager who reviewed the results of the job, to make sure we were entirely satisfied. Very, very weird experience with these people. Just wanted a quote on some decking. They sent a guy out - Jonah - he measured the area, answered my questions intelligently. Then I began to get calls daily from others there. They said Jonah wouldn't be providing the proposal he had promised. Wanted to reschedule with another "deck specialist". Complete clown show. These guys get in, estimate you modestly to score the gig, and then bring in the cheapest people to do the work. Lots of different people all the time too. They don't show up when they say they will and then arrive when you're not expecting them. WHAT is that all about? Ask MANY questions and get it ALL in writing. For your reference, check the CA Contractors Board and look at the list of personnel. You will find the same sales clowns skipping around from company to company that gets closed down, gets a complaint, or loses their license due to some sort of non-compliance. Proceed with caution. Work done around August 2016. Review written Feb 2018. Explanation for the summary: for us, there were many "project managers" and so many (licensed?, unlicensed?, who knows?) "contractors" who messed up almost every element at least once and each time acted like, "oh, gee that doesn't make sense to you?, or that doesn't look good?, or that isn't right? Geee, okay sir, we'll fix it." The mistakes were many on our relatively simple project & because of them, it took about 7 weeks longer to complete then estimated AND caused us too much attention with the LA City Building Inspector. Yeah, the Inspector knows my kid and my cat's names, put it to you that way... and they were NOT thrilled by the mistakes made by these guys on pretty obvious and basic stuff. In the end, the bathroom turned out decent - but not because they just got on with it, because we insisted it be correct. My take is that if you never called this group out on their mistakes: they would just seal up your wall, inadequate work hidden away, and your project and your wall would probably fall apart within a few months of completion. In the end, the space does LOOK good at a glance. But look closer and you see the drywall nails showing, the light fixtures flickering and the edges of the tiles all look like terrible. These are few things that need to be fixed and we are on the edge as to whether we bring the clown show back in to do what they rightfully should fix, or just go elsewhere to avoid aggravation and disappointment. Sterling Builders did work on my aunts house in Redlands, ca. their proposal was to remove all attic insulation and replace with new, repair roof in three places and install a motion light above garage door. this work was estimated at just over 20 thousand dollars and was completed in Jan, 2020. I have been in the trades for over 30 years and have never had anyone tell me the insulation needed to be replaced, added to maybe but never replaced. The roof which they "fixed" leaked once again during the recent rain storm. according to their "project manager" it will require an additional 25 hundred dollars to fix. the motion light above the garage door was installed in stucco and the fixture did not cover the hole that they made. Nobody from Sterling bothered to mention it or fixed it until my cousin complained which was a month after they "finished". I might add that my aunt is 80 years old, lives by herself and we believe is in the early stages of dementia. I believe for the scope of work accomplished and the price they charged, that Sterling builders might have taken advantage of the situation. read more

I had SBG redo my flat roof about 5 years ago and noticed some stains in my stucco a year or so ago but didn't think anything of it. Well, I had someone take a look at my roof ahead of the rainy season and turns out they applied the torch down incorrectly allowing for the rain water to pool and leak into the wood and stucco which some has fallen off. Had a lady named Dominique from Remodeling Center call me today regarding roof repair. Said my info was on a public record list and that I had inquired regarding roof repair on a site. (Never did, I only inquired at Sams Club and they took me off their caller list because they don't repair, nor replace the type of roofing we have). They call me back and tell me I'll be receiving a call from their contractor about 30 minutes prior to arrival to confirm the appointment; never received a call. I was outside in my backyard picking up somethings when this man walked up to my side gate and said my name. I had to ask who he was and where he was from, only to have him say "I'm the roofer from the company that contacted you earlier today." (He did not have on a company shirt) He asked me to show him what needed to be repaired, so I did. He needed his ladder to see part of the roof, so I followed him out to the front of the house only to realize that he didn't have any license plate on the rear of his car. He got on our first story and snapped some pics of the broken tiles and rotted wood on the second story and got down. Didn't go up on the second story at all. Told me that they'd just push the tile that is sliding off back and renail it in place. When he quoted me, he said it'd take 4-5 days of work for $2,500. This isn't our first quote, so I asked how many tiles he'd be using and couldn't give me a number. When asked for a written estimate to show my husband, he said he gave me a verbal price and to call my husband to get the okay. He sighed when I asked again for a document for pricing so I could call back and got irritated and told me to just call my husband that moment so we could move forward. Took his business card which said he worked for Sterling Builders Group, thanked him for the time, walked him out and waited for the 20 minutes it took for him to leave. Very unprofessional. For the last 2 months, I have been trying to get copies of work performed. The woman said I should get it in about a week. Since then, I have not received anything. Only one other time has my phone call been answered. I was promised, again, my paperwork. I have left messages, called from another phone, nothing.
