Approximately four years ago I contacted Sterling to upgrade the very sparse Builders Quality landscaping on our corner lot. Thad came out during the Winter to get a look at the challenge. Based on our input he drew up a "low maintenance" plan that we approved. The following Spring, the entire front yard was re-landscaped. New trees and shrubbery were added. Upgrades were made to the irrigation system. They also subcontracted with a concrete curbing firm that provided edge enhancements for the planted areas. Thad helped us pick out slate to accent different areas of the yard. In the backyard, they upgraded the irrigation system, planted shrubbery and had curbing installed. The landscaping received rave reviews by the neighbors. Misty, from Sterling, has led a team out every Spring to clean up, prune and prepare the yard for Spring and Summer. They have done a fantastic job. I wholeheartedly recommend Sterling landscape service. 10/10 read more

We used sterling landscape as new owners of a home, as the previous owners have used them. We had had them blow out our sprinklers, and asked for a quote for lawn mowing, rate was 100+ per week 600 per month (outrageous) but we had them blow out the sprinklers. In this time they were not responsive or kind on the phone at all, they had never met us so who knows. Flash forward to January we get a call saying they werent paid for the sprinkler blow out, I check all my accounts and they were not paid, but a male employee took my credit card info over the phone in october, and I never heard from them again. Obviously the charge was never sent through. I never received a bill in the mail (although she says shes sending one now, January 2023). But has proceded to treat me with RUDE and unprofessional behavior, for reasons unknown to me. My mail box was full and she went KAREN on me about it. I am not sure who is in charge of your billing system, but please send bills out immediately if they are not paid instead of harassing and berating your customers. Honest mistakes happen, if a bill wasn't paid, that is YOUR responsibility to follow up with it with written documentation, not phone calls demanding payment without context. Please look into this individual, if you are the owner then SHAME ON YOU. I would NEVER recommend this OVERPRICED shotty service. Just called to speak with Dan King, the office assistant sent me to his voicemail and said he probably wont be around for a couple of weeks because he is doing training. Sterling Landscape installed our home's front and back yard landscape design that included curved paver walkways, accessible crushed granite pathways, water features, lawn, planting beds, planting of shrubbery and perennials and trees and layout of irrigation systems. At every step of the way and for every person at Sterling the experience was stellar. On time and on budget for their professional estimate, Sterling's bill is one we were delighted to pay at job's end. We feel like we more than got our money's worth! EXPECTATIONS EXCEEDED FOR INSTALLATION From Lavon Webb, who runs the business and was hands on when he needed to be each day, to Angela who sourced the plant materials and Sergio ( part artist - part engineer) who selected and installed the rockery for the water feature and other elements, through the paver walkway install (tricky one and so nicely done) and planting as managed by (multi-talented and professional) Tony and with hard work provided by Juan and Luis all the other nice men who were on the job, our expectations were surpassed. The people who worked on the project arrived with the information they needed to do the job, the experience needed to do it right and the tools and materials to get it right the first time. EXCELLENCE MODELED TOP DOWN This is a business that has excellence modeled top down. Every person at Sterling seems to embrace pride in their work and a focus on quality control in outcome. I say as having just had a house built that this is a novelty among many of the construction trade sub contractors. To have it modeled so perfectly by the Landscape Contractor, I wish whatever is Sterling's secret could be put in a bottle and sold to others! COMMUNICATION AND TEAMWORK One of the things with which we were most impressed was that when the inevitable 'things happen', as in any complicated project install, it was not we who had to find it and report it and follow it to be addressed. Sterling employees identified any issue before it became a problem and paired that with the information on what would be done by whom and when to put things perfectly on track. Then it all happened just as promised. Hooray! Unlike our home building experience where it sometimes felt like herding cats with sub contractors and the general too, Sterling's landscape contracting business a delightful team of people who all communicate with each other and the homeowners. LAWN MAINTENANCE Sterling is divided into divisions and the install work was such a pleasure that we contracted with the maintenance division, run by Dan King, to do our lawn maintenance. Dan has also been super to work with and the lawn crew as led by Carlos do a great job. PERSONAL GARDENING SERVICES We're also working with Sterling for personal gardening services for shrubs and perennial beds and so enjoyed meeting with Misty Ryan to discuss what we were looking. This is not the "mow, blow and go..." one size fits all yards service, but service that can be customized to fit clients' needs and preferences. The personal gardening staff includes horticulturists and given my husband's and my BBB (birds, butterflies and bees) garden orientation and leaning to organic practices. We were lined up with Lindsay and her helper who have done outstanding work. OTHERS HAVE ACCOLADES TOO The landscape architect my husband and I used to design our yard was very high on Sterling and encouraged us to use them. Our next door neighbors used Sterling to install their yard and to maintain it were just as enthusiastic in their recommendation. I note similar 5 star reviews for Sterling behind the Yelp filter. I have to say that this is the first time that I've ever used social media I think to warn potential customers away from a company. We've used Sterling for two years for everything from lawn mowing, maintenance of sprinkler system, flower and plant install, to fall and spring clean up, etc. I give HIGH marks to Eva, the company's "personal gardener"; she is a great "partner" to homeowners and is easy to work with and extremely responsive. The guys who mow the yard once a week are also good in that they can be relied on to show and mow every week. However, Kenny, the head of landscaping I believe, and the sprinkler team are not at all responsive to customers. Literally not responsive. In the spring, the company made a huge mistake and mixed weed killer in with fertilizer. They killed large swaths of grass throughout the yard. The company was eventually responsive to our concerns and replaced the dead patches with sod. However, for four months, our sprinkler system has not worked correctly and we have dead patches of grass throughout, due to lack of water. In other areas of the yard, we wake up each morning to pools of water. I've literally placed 12 calls and texts - to no avail. We easily pay in excess of $450/month and if you saw our yard, you would be shocked - multiple dead patches, with dying flowers because of inadequate water and then in other places standing water to the extent that our dogs can't spend time in our yard. I write this review not to be spiteful but to warn customers (especially two busy working professionals) to stay away from Sterling for anything other than working with Eva. The company just isn't responsive nor do they seem to care at all/have pride in their work. read more

I am not one to write reviews, as I tend to feel like businesses know if you'll be a return customer or not. Unfortunately, my experience was so bad, that I found it necessary to advise others to steer clear. We have been using Sterling Landscape for years. We've had them completely redo our front yard landscaping, take care of sprinkler blow outs and do repairs as they have been needed. In the past I have found them to be fair priced, competent and courteous. Unfortunately, this is not the company I once trusted and can say that I will never be using them again. Each fall we have Sterling do our sprinkler blowouts. Their prices have gone up considerably, but I have always liked that I knew who I was going through, so if issues cropped up in the spring they could be resolved. In the past this has always been the case and at no additional charge. This year was exceedingly different. When the water came on I could not get my sprinklers to work, so I contacted Sterling. My wife was home when a repairman came, but he did not knock on the door or as any questions. He simply worked on the system for a long while and left. The system was working when I got home that night, so I figured everything was take care of. This was the start of my problems. First, I get a bill for over $80.00. Though I don't mind paying for services rendered, I do mind being charged for things like sprinkler head change outs that I can do myself and no one asking if we'd like them done. The bigger issue was the system itself however. We had a very nice and quite large Deodar Cedar in our front yard (installed by Sterling no less). As late spring progressed, the tree started to die. Desperate to save it, I called Sterling to have an arborist look at it to see what might be going on. To make a long story short, the arborist never called and the tree died. I removed the tree and root ball, so a new tree could be planted and found that our drip system is running almost non stop. I spoke to Sterling again, at this point very frustrated, but hopeful that the problem could be fixed (as this was likely the cause of what killed the cedar). The manager said he would come out himself and fix it. Welp, it's been a couple weeks and the problem continues. Now I am also looking at losing 2 Tiger's Eye Sumacs, ornamental grass and who knows what else. My loyalty kept me hoping that Sterling would pull through and take care of this and even take a bit of responsibility. At this point, I've hired another company to come out and fixed everything. Called to have my grave driveway sprayed for weeds. It took 3 days to get a call back to set up an appointment. Dan said he would call the following Monday and set a time up depending on the weather, a week latter no call and the weather has been great for spraying. They have no customer service. Terrible customer service. Called in for an estimate and was told they are doing some estimates for certain types of work so I told them I would like a quote for a 300 sq ft patio with a fire pit, removal of some sod, and an install of a large retaining wall and I was told they are not interested in this kind of work as they are too busy and are booked for the year. I understand its really busy this time of year, but they could at least offer to give an estimate a few months from now like most companies, many of whom who are not even available to come out until August but still make an appointment regardless, but these guys just rudely say sorry and hangup. We hired Sterling to remodel our backyard and they delivered! Our project was fairly extensive and took almost 3 months to complete. During the entire length of the project, we had nothing but positive interactions with everyone involved. Lavon was great to work with and very responsive to any questions or concerns we had during the work and he ensured that everything was put in according to the landscape plan. The crew was prompt, courteous and professional and we were very impressed with the attention to detail and overall high quality of the work that they did. Even after our remodel was finished, we continue to receive outstanding service from Sterling. There have been a few minor warranty issues that came up and they have all been resolved very quickly. I am so pleased with the work the Jeff Gerhard from Sterling Landscape did for me in my yard that I just have to write and let people know. Last year I contacted him to help me design and install landscaping in my front yard. I thought that I would be lucky to get the job done by the end of summer. Mr. Gerhard came over and met with me within one week! I gave him a basic explanation of what I was thinking about doing. He gave me some additional ideas. Within a week he was back and while I was at work he started my project. He did the landscape design, installation, put in some irrigation, replaced old curbing & did some tree work. Following his suggestions, and the flower suggestions that he recommended, my yard was absolutely beautiful. I have had many people stop by and ask me who did my work. This year, I asked Mr. Gerhard to come back and trim my other trees. He layered a huge Scotch pine so that it looks absolutely perfect. The shaping will keep the tree from falling over in a wind storm. It is beautiful!!! He also finished trimming a Paper Birch that was so sick last year that I was afraid it was going to die and I would have to have it removed. By the end of summer last year, and having followed Mr. Gerhard's directions, this tree is doing much better. And the way that he has trimmed it this year, it looks like a different tree and much healthier. Mr. Gerhard is a gifted and talented man, and I feel so lucky to have had him do work for me. Let's discuss customer service. Jeff Gerhard with Sterling Landscape and Tree Service is the most amazing person I have ever had do work for me. When he says he will be there, he is there. I told my husband that it was like having the yard fairy come while I was at work. After 4 years it's time I write a review. I use to love Sterlings when they were a retail store, my father-in-law and husband knew Lynne sterling. We called them for a re-landscape of our front yard. The plants they used were the smallest I'd ever seen. We have a fairly large house and it really looked ridiculous, something we heard from our neighbors too. I brought up my concern and they put in some that were slightly larger, but their irritation was obvious. Mid-landscape our daughter passed away unexpectedly. Not only were we barely able to function but we also had a huge funeral bill. My husband spoke to Lynne Sterling and we went on a 4 month payment plan. Regardless of this we were harassed constantly by the new owners. The darkest time of our lives were exacerbated by all the calls and nastiness. After 4 years the landscaping has grown enough to look nice, but 1 star for customer service. How you treat people matters. read more
