Not very hospitable, not very neighborly. Life is too short for that. Personally, I would not mind had the man in charge simply take a moment to think about how to better interact with people and made another attempt. Last week when my mower died I took it into Sterling May on Main St. When we got there the lady that checked it in asked my three year old daughter if the mower had a name. Of course she exclaims,"Kristoff!" Everyday since she asked how Kristoff was doing and when he would be ready. I went to pick him up yesterday and found a label on the mower that said, "Hello I'm Kristoff! I can survive a blizzard!" (See the photos tab) I highly recommend Sterling May! As a small business owner I appreciate great service when I receive it. From the moment I called looking for a part until the moment I checked out the staff were very professional and knowledgable. Morgan Duffy is the store manager and I would consider him an expert in his field. I exterminate burrowing rodents such as gophers and ground squirrels for a living. The machine I use to do this work broke down in the middle of a big job. Turns out the carburetor failed and Morgan took a quick look at it for me. Based on his expertise we didn't replace the part but we were able to get my machine back up and running again. My customer was extremely happy that I could finish the job which made me look like a superstar. I'll be upfront and say I know a lot of the employees that work at Sterling May but regardless they provided great customer service. I went in to buy a blower and was helped by Kimberly, Laura, and Jacob who were all very knowledgeable about the products and helped me choose the right one for my needs. I bought a gas powered blower (I have only used electric and battery powered blowers in the past) and Jacob showed me the proper way to get the blower started and Laura gave me some good tips on how not to flood the engine (apparently people come in with issues with their units after flooding the engine). I've bought power products from The Home Depot in the past but their customer service was awful and they were not as detailed and helpful as everyone at Sterling May. read more

This place is a joke when it comes to getting your mower serviced. Was told up to two weeks when I dropped it off, and should cost no more then $50. It's been a month, still no mower and they are now asking for over $100.00 for their "time". Learn to be honest with people. After no response for almost a month I finally get a call and they are promising to have it complete by Tuesday. That was a week ago yesterday. I will never go back and warn anyone who is looking for service to go elsewhere unless you don't mind being lied to, and stung along because there is clearly a lack of management. Took my commercial model Honda power drive mower in to fix a spring that had jumped off. It was the spring that controls the drive (hard to push a heavy Honda mower up a hill with no power). I am quite mechanical, but I could not figure out how to reattach it without dismantling a lot of other parts first. The young man at the counter said he could fix it while I waited. In less than five minutes it was ready to roll and there was NO CHARGE! Thanks! We'll be back when it's tune up time. read more

This place sucks! Their service department sucks. When they say that they "field test" equipment they let it run for few minutes at idle knowing that the original problem was that it was dying under a load. Sure enough when I got home and tried to use the equipment died again under a load. If you need starter brushes for your Honda ATV and it's not a rush to get them, go to Napa Auto Parts up the street. Sterling May will sell you just the brushes for about $40.00. If you go to Napa you will get the brushes and new rubber O ring seals for $35.00. They have also lost equipment that has been given to them for service. read more

I took my quad in so they could see what body parts i needed to order and i would do the repairs myself. 11, days later i picked up the parts (not that they called me and told me the parts were in, i happen to call them on my own). Mike ordered the completely wrongs parts and told me to return them that it would not be a problem. When i returned the parts he wanted to charge me a restocking fee of what he estimated would be over $25.00. Keep in mind he looked at the quad and told me what i needed. Yet he wanted me to pay for something he did wrong. After the parts were returned he said he couldn't refund me my money until he found out what the restocking fee would be. That was 9 days ago and today when i called him he still doesn"t know because he hasn't heard back from the place he ordered the parts from. So far this has been a month long ordeal. I would not go back there nor would i recommend this place to anyone. They get a zero from me. If i returned an item to Costco they would immediately issue a refund on the spot; not string me along like this business is doing. As of today they still have my money and the two headlights they ordered which my quad did not need. This business is not honest with people. read more

i bought a honda law mower, really nice got a real good deal for it, as far as customer service, i give them a one, the two is for the quality of there honday products, last i went i saw a used quad and it was nice, so i went in to ask what the price i waited for a long time, then finally one guys comes up and says can i help you, i ask what the price was for the quad outside this guy decided to say i dont now ask mike, so i was like Really, then i waited to talk to mike, some old dude, he saw me, when he was done talking to the customer and just walk out, to the back, i waited and when i decided to leave this place, he was in the back room, this place is a joke, read more

I give this place 0 stars if i could. I dropped off my pressure washer for them to take a look at, I was told that the pressure washer's water pump is going bad and that the new pump is going to be $199 and that is should only take about 10 minutes to install. They had the pressure washer for a couple weeks and called me to tell me that there was a part that was missing off the soap tank, I told them that I dropped off the pressure washer and all the parts were there as I did not take it apart. I just picked the pressure washer up and they are charging me an extra $100 than originally quoted for the parts that they had misplaced and for over a half an our of labor. With the new pump on it my soap tank does not fit and they charged me $20 for a fitting that won't even be functioning. This place is a huge scam DO NOT USE THEM!!! you will be sorry if you do. read more

I dropped off my generator a couple days ago and asked to have the oil, and plug changed and also install a new pull start cord they quoted me just an hour for the cord alone plus the service I said that was fine. Just picked up my generator today and it was 150$ and they did not change the oil or replace the plug this was just for the pull cord which is to 2 hrs labor. I am disappointed with them. read more

These people are friendly but way too busy. They new my expectations going into their business. It was made clear on the phone. After getting there they were so busy they mixed my business up with a friends who also came in with me. I was not given a receipt or work order or quote. They were so busy I figured I would call at the end of the week. They promised it would be done They had not even started on it. Three days later they had the part they waited on. A new lens for the tail light. Another two days they told me when to pick it up. Three days later I got there and they still had not done anything to it. I sat there three hours the whole time listening to them lie about it being done in 5 minutes, next 10 minutes, then finding out they put slime in my tire I had wanted a new tube in checked the oil and air filters I had already made clear I had done, held everything up two weeks to start the work for a tail light lens I could have carried home and put on myself. Thank God they didn't need to order anything else. I returned my friends parts and they gave me a story about it and would not give me any money for the returned parts,They decided to order for him but put on my tab. I had to insist they write something on the paper work and give me a copy about the parts being returned. Nothing was written about a service fee,and restock fee they wanted from him so they just held on to his money for the parts. They didn't even have a name and number for my friend I had to insist they write that on the paper work. Three weeks later we are still waiting. Never did they call me I had to call them. I would not recommend this company to anyone. They just are not professional at all. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. Took a small rototiller in for tune up. Basic stuff. Got it back (long after they said it would be ready) and it started fine, but a hose fell off while tilling and it WOULD NOT stop. Even when the off switch was activated and at the lowest choke. I finally yanked the spark plug out. Insane! That never was a problem before I took it in (nor was the gas hose falling off). So brought it back. They charged me again to "fix" it. Guess what- nothing was changed. It still would not turn off. Took it back again (figuring they broke it, they should fix it) and called ahead so that the mechanic would check it out while we were there. Guess what? The mechanic called in sick that day, so we would have to leave it. Picked it up several days later supposedly fixed. Now the rototiller won't even start. I will be filing a complaint with the better business bureau. DO NOT go to Sterling May for service- they clearly have no idea what they are doing. My once very functional rototiller now will not even start thanks to them. I'm going to take it to another shop in the AM and hope they can undo the damange. ARgh!!!! read more
